The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or indeed society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast.
Thanks to his twin brother Vergil, leader of the anti-establishment group called “The Order”, Dante is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement.
For DmC Capcom has teamed up with UK development studio, Ninja Theory, renown for delivering action titles with compelling characters and narrative coupled with high production values. The combination of Ninja Theory’s expertise and Capcom’s unrivalled heritage in producing combat focused action titles will ensure that this latest addition to the over 11-million selling series will remain true to the Devil May Cry DNA so cherished by the fans, while bringing a new level of cinematic quality to the title.
Key Features
- Survive Limbo - The world of Limbo is a living and breathing entity, out to kill Dante. The world will transform in real-time and try to block off and even kill our hero. Our protagonist will have to master demonic powers to shape Limbo the way he sees fit, while perfecting his angelic skills to traverse this hazardous, twisted world.
- Who is Dante? – Explore a retelling of Dante’s origin story in a gripping narrative featuring familiar faces from the series alongside all new characters, including Vergil, Dante’s twin brother.
- Unbridled action – The intense and iconic sword and gun based combat returns with the addition of new Angel and Demon weapons and abilities, all designed to dispatch the demonic spawn back to hell with style and panache. Weapons include:
- “Rebellion”: Dante’s trusted sword, given by his father Sparda, provides a great mix of combos and attacks, great for sending enemies skyward.
- “Ebony & Ivory”: These guns are good for keeping enemies at bay, maintaining combos and juggling enemies in the air.
- “Arbiter”: a demonic axe that can deliver massive blows and break through enemy shields.
- “Osiris”: an angelic scythe with fast attacks and great for crowd control.
- “Eryx”: powerful demonic gauntlets that pack enough punch to parry even the strongest attacks and juggle the heaviest enemies.
- “Rebellion”: Dante’s trusted sword, given by his father Sparda, provides a great mix of combos and attacks, great for sending enemies skyward.
- Retaining the Devil May Cry DNA – Capcom staff, including team members from previous Devil May Cry titles, have been assigned to the project from the outset to ensure DmC is a true addition to the Devil May Cry franchise.
- Unrivalled production values - Ninja Theory will take advantage of the latest performance capture technology to deliver a level of character design, story-telling and cinematics that perfectly complements DmC’s high-octane combat.

story is okay combat is really fluid and good. even more so when you figure how to jump cancel attacks
The DMC Reboot We Deserved – Stylish, Crazy, and Criminally Underrated.
I’m not really into anime or cartoons, but as a kid, I couldn’t resist watching Devil May Cry. That’s where I met Dante for the first time — not through the games, but the anime. And since the anime was based on the games (and not the other way around), Dante became, for me, that unhinged, cocky, demon-slaying lunatic who cracks dumb jokes, doesn’t care how ridiculous he seems, and still absolutely demolishes everything in his way.
After watching the anime, I went back to play the earlier DMC games… and honestly? I was disappointed. The gameplay felt clunky, and the Dante I met in the games lacked the wild energy and charm I saw in the anime. So, I put the series aside — but never forgot that version of Dante I loved so much.
Dream Come True!
Then came DMC: Devil May Cry in 2013 — and holy hell, THIS WAS IT.
That insane, chaotic, no-filter demon hunter was finally back. From the first cutscene to the last boss fight, I was hooked. I couldn’t stop until I 100%’d the entire thing. And what made it even better?
• The controls were tight and fluid
• Combat was flashy, responsive, and stylish
• The combos felt like an endless playground
• The soundtrack? Pure fire — aggressive, energetic, and perfectly fitting the chaos
• And of course… Dante. Just as mad, funny, reckless, and badass as I always imagined
The game flopped because hardcore fans of the original series refused to accept the reboot. They didn’t want a version that was more accessible, more wild, more expressive. They wanted the same formula — and in doing so, they buried a title that could have opened up the DMC universe to a whole new generation.
The potential for expansion was huge. The story was bold, easy to follow, yet powerful, and the game offered tons of replayability. But the door was slammed shut.
Years later, I tried DMC5, and honestly, it didn’t hit the same. The gameplay was polished, sure — but the soul was missing. It felt like the series had locked itself into a corner, catering only to longtime fans instead of trying to evolve. The result? No continuation. No new vision. Just stagnation.
A new Devil May Cry anime dropped recently — and of course I watched it. While it started off a bit slow, by the end it delivered the same rush and madness that DMC: Devil May Cry (2013) did. That hype made me reinstall the game and replay it all over again. And wow… it still hits just as hard.
I could play it a hundred more times and still enjoy every second.
If you’re coming into the series fresh, maybe after watching the Netflix anime, then THIS is the game you should play.
It’s accessible, fast, stylish and above all - crazy.
DMC 2013 is the Dante we deserved.
Stylish. Rebellious. Iconic.
Good game once you get past the whole emo aesthetics of the characters. At the core of it all this is a reboot and meant to be its own game. It feels completely different from the main entries.
Pros
-The level design is the shinning point. The levels deconstructing in front of you is a cool concept.
-The writing is OK. The writing in this game are both a pro and a con. Its a simple story that doesn't get convoluted.
-The combat at it's core is the same DMC hack and slash goodness we've all used to.
-Visually the graphics look pretty damn good for this being a 12 year old tittle.
-The challenges are fun as always.
-Stability is quite solid for this being a 12 year old game. I ran in to no bugs or glitches.
Cons
-At 20 levels the main story feels short.
-The Writing of the characters is such a far cry from what we know them to be in the main tittles. The woke propaganda while very true is not very subtle and in your face like a 90's don't do drugs campaign.
-Too many times the game felt like it was being profane for the sheer sake of shock value.
Conclusion
Decent game if you put your bias of the main titles. Very much worth the buy.
This game is weird as hell but I found myself enjoying it for what it was. 6.8 out of 10.
Still not a great DMC game tho, w t f were they thinking?
... well I didn't like it at launch, and it certainly didn't age well lol. I did like the creativity on some of the demons bosses? I guess. I vaguely remember a helpful demon guy that was interesting 1/2way through the game.
I wouldn't buy DMC 2/10
DmC: Devil May Cry, is what YOU make of it.
It's a strange game that arrived when Capcom where rebooting the franchise with a vastly different and new direction, one that doesn't bode well with most fans.. Overly vulgar dialogue, generic stock character tropes for both Virgil and Dante; reducing Virgil to a meek hacker and Dante as a careless teenager, losing a powerful dynamic that Devil May Cry 3 explored. Dante is the lesser brother. Virgil for one reason or another will always be stronger than Dante until he proves himself to rise to his level. It's the quintessential younger / older brother archetype. In this game, we don't see Virgil fight... we don't play as him. There is no reason to believe he is powerful whats-so-ever. So with an ending where you have to fight Virgil because it's a DMC game you have fight him, right? There's no sense of stake or reason to believe Dante won't wipe the floor with him. In 3, you believe and see Virgil kicking ass... meanwhile in this, it's such an assumed thing. He takes such a background role, it destroys any drama. However, the combat in this game is to die for.
Every single weapon in this game feels satisfying. There are so many combos I can rattle of the top of my head, depending on the vast enemies you encounter... but the idea that there's even more makes me to replay this game. I think the mechanics of when you have to use the angel weapons vs the demon weapons is really well implemented. You never feel like one is more dominant than the other and there's plenty of upgrades to decide what YOU want to do. More importantly you can play in whatever what you feel. If you love the rebellion you can just play with that and mix in little attacks of the others here and there. If you want to be an all rounder you can do that too. It's such an engaging system to work with and without the story I could play this for hundreds of hours. For me this combat is the second best in the franchise, just before 3. And I just wanted to say DMC 4 lost me during chapter 12 out of 20... DMC: Devil May Cry never did. Maybe that's a combat issue mixed with a reusing of assets problem 4 has but right now I rank this over 4. As a story 4 is miles better but this game just has that combat sauce, meanwhile 4 just misses the mark for me.
So honestly, play the game for yourself. If you are a die hard DMC fan... sorry to say, you have to play this one. It's part of the franchise and you have to make your own opinion. This game had so much backlash ten years ago because there was a belief that 5 was never coming. Well it's out now and so is this. I think it's way worth it to play this, and I believe if you can sit through the awful game that is DMC 2, you can play this just to finish the story. If I had to rate it... it's probably a 6/10. But I understand the varied range of reviews.
Ugly as shit, ear piercing sword SFX, some moves not working smoothly on K&M, MORE PLATFORMING THAN FIGHTING, but fuck it's still DMC. I NEED that SSSensational.
very fun but a challenge overall a really good game
This one captures the essence of the Devil May Cry series while introducing a crucial element its predecessors often overlooked: a genuinely emotional and thoughtful narrative. The combat is fluid, fast-paced, and satisfying, demanding precision and creativity. The storytelling is deep, with dialogue that resonates with genuine emotion, exploring complex themes and developing characters impactfully.
The weapon switching mechanic is seamless, allowing players to transition between a diverse arsenal with fluidity. This combat system allows skilled players to string together impressive and visually spectacular combos. I can't do it unfortunately but I can see the potential with enough practice.
Visually, the game looks unique and is reminiscent of Bioshock Infinite in some ways. The graphics are uniquely stylized and surreal (warped and floating buildings for instance), creating a captivating and fun atmosphere. The consistently solid voice acting brings every character to life,
I was checking Reddit posts and for the life of me, I don't understand how the diehard fans didnt like this one. This is easily the best installment in the series.
good game sad it got all the hate would have liked to seen a continuation of the story for this
This is not a bad game as everyone says it is the combos you can do in this game is insane while that being said the characters are bad that is for sure its a good game but not a good DMC game, if the game was not called a devil may cry game maybe people would have liked it 8/10
This game feels like someone who peaked in high-school
(ps. don't 100% this game, the game doesn't reward you for anything after dante must die mode on the base game. you get no cosmetics except for 1. only play the base game for a so bad it's good experience and never touch the dlc.)
The gameplay for the most part is actually quite solid and fun. I would even go as far as saying that it has some of the series most creative combat. But, the narrative absolutely butchers the cast. Dante is a whiny brat who spits out curse words left and right and Vergil was downplayed as a generic hacker/smart character that you would see in a CW show. Also, fuck happened to Vergil's drip? Bro looks like a redditor and speaks like one. They done massacred my boys. Dosen't make it better how unfunny this game can be whenever it tries to be overly edgy. 5/10
DMC means a lot to me personally and brings back a lot of nostalgia.
I played this game back on the PS3 and it simply fascinated me.
I'm glad to be able to play it again. A masterpiece.
It was a fun game. Some levels are visually stunning! Combat is very addictive and fun. Boss fights are not annoying and it feels very rewarding once you beat them. Really well designed levels and enemies.
This game fucks and millennials psy op'd the world into thinking otherwise. Thanks for nothing Angry Joe !
this game is one of my childhood game and I still like it and i like the switching between his father so the demon side or his mother the angel side
It's oddly not that bad. It starts off a bit weak and Dante's whimper screams are really off putting, but the gameply isn't bad. I played this after playing the remasters of DMC1, 2, and 3, and I can honestly say that I had more fun with the gameplay from this, but the stories in the previous 3 games was better, especially DMC3. I'm curious to see how DMC4 and 5 are after playing this.
the combos the weapons and the mechanics in this game is actually very nice, everything do look better then obv the other 3 games, but um... this just says "fuck you" to all the previous lore and stories in the game and made vergil here a pussy for some reason, I mean I was already confused as to why this is that in like the first 20 minutes into the game, and I get that this is supposed to be a game about killing demons and shit but who actually thought that putting 300 different curse words in the dialogue was a good idea bro that shit is not funny bro its too much, and we did get to fight vergil at the end but his motivation is so flat its not even interesting, this feels like a disney avengers movie level writing, to whoever wrote the script I hope u no longer get hired for any jobs this is just horrible writing, also I would just suggest the game as a gameplay wise instead of a canon lore wise, since combat is pretty nice, I also do like the platforming mechanics here,
Playing this game again after so long, it is still amazing and it has the absolutely best hack n slash gameplay ever made still to this day. I wish more hack n slash games took inspiration from it because this combat it`s pure blissful fun.
God, I love this game so much. Ninja Theory excels at both art direction and addictive gameplay (see Hellblade), and I really hope to see another title from them like this. Plus 10/10 soundtrack from Combichrist, this game is just pure aura.
Give me Latino cig-smoking, clubbing, bad-mouthed Dante, or give me death!!!
Que no puedas fijar a los objetivos me ha hecho cometer muchos errores y en si la historia es malísima, pero en general el gameplay está bien
Some may not like the overwritten characters, but they can't deny the SSSplendid action, music and atmosphere 🔥🔥🔥
Very edgy and not the og Dante but is a very good game if we don't take those points into account
very much enjoy this game its very different from the original devil may cry but still enjoyable if you like overly edgy stuff i suppose!!!
Dude I've only played this game for about 2 hours and I'm already loving it. The mechanics are fun to learn, the pacing is surprisingly fast, and Dante is a really cool character. The best thing I can compare the vibe to is the early seasons of Supernatural (I feel like Dante and Dean would get along). I usually play these kinds of games on the easiest setting first because they're not my forte, but DMC is a breeze on normal difficulty, even for those new to melee games! If you want a game that makes you go "hell yeah" every five seconds, Devil May Cry is just for you.
Well it's certainly a game, with HUGE technical stability issues
Listen it's not really DMC... It's a DMC AU with inferior graphics and a fair less tight mechanic system. If you have played previous DMC titles, this is baby's first slasher by comparison. SSS ranks right out the gate on the hardest difficulty. Loose pressing, close as hell FOV camera, stylized slash and bash. So if tight juggling combos and skill based gameplay are your cocaine, this is herbal tea. But it has an audaciousness to it thats lightly humorous. Forget the other DMC plots, forget the lore, this is an inferior but not terrible DMC Alternate Universe. And it is not a skill focused one. Not bad, just different.
THAT BEING SAID, it is a technical nightmare, crashes constantly, you have to force frame limits or it runs away as well. This is just a bad port. Shame, because I WAS enjoying the new narrative but damn is it a buggy POS
Story wise it’s okay. I try to think of it as a different game than the dmc series.
I mostly play it because of the gameplay
For me, USA creators had our beauty... btw the history just take seriously or not about the other games.... chill guys and enjoy the combos
If you don't mind the edgy one-liners and Adi Shankar levels of swearing, this game is actually surprisingly decent. El Donte should be in the next mainline game as an alternate skin or a fake Dante. I wouldn't recommend paying full price for it though.
holy christ this game is actually giving me cancer but its so fire.r...
its like if a 15 year old wanted to mash together grand theft auto san andres and devil may cry 2 (specifically 2) into one game and wanted to keep the humor of grand theft auto but made it more cringe worhty
honestly
not htat bad
8/10
Really fun short-ish alternate timeline deal, definitely not devil may cry but if you're able to deal with that then you'll have a good time
Amazing combat, amazing keyboard + mouse support, amazing music. Some people don’t like color coded enemies (there’s only 2 btw), but IMO it makes the fight more challenging. Bosses are memorable, albeit somewhat scripted. The environment design is sooooooooo good; Morphing floors/walls/ceilings, floating objects in the sky, upside down levels. The side characters aren’t that memorable, but it’s fine. The dialogue is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard; It’s so bad it’s good. Vergil’s downfail was nice too, I liked the comic book styled cutscenes. This is a bad Devil May Cry, but it’s an amazing game on its own.
Great combat mechanics and overall feel when playing. SSSENSATIONAL
A true return to form. I love what they did here with going back to the roots of the genre. the combat here is some of the best for me. I truly have a blast playing this and it's easy to understand and pick up but difficult to master. very rewarding to play.
Decently fun. Good OST. Combat is pretty good. The lore is kinda refreshing.
I think it's a fun reimagining of the original world, but I find that the simplified combat is nowhere near as satisfying, especially when they throw in those enemies that force you to use one specific weapon type on them. The game places a much larger emphasis on platforming and traversal than the original series though, and it solves a lot of the problems the series had to this point with its platforming sections, including but not limited to finally un-fucking the camera.
The art style is grungy and edgy and everything I'd expect from an early 2010s Capcom game, especially one by Ninja Theory. It's not bad though. Fits the tone and the setting quite well, and in my opinion it's definitely aged like fine wine. I think this game will always look good as shit.
The story is a mixed bag. The writing and characters tend to be fun at worst and downright relatable at best, but the ending is a huge letdown, especially with the Vergil DLC. The cutscenes are great though and the bosses are awesome, so I don't mind too much.
I dunno, man. I think it's fun. It's a solid 7/10 game, and I do kinda wish ninja theory got to make at least one sequel. I'll take DMC5 over DmC2 any day though, so I guess I can't be too sad about it. I think the $30 price tag is just about right on the mark too, for whatever that's worth.
This is one of the best games I have ever had the honor of playing. Easily the best gameplay the DMC series has to offer. Story? Don't care. This game is peak.

Yes, as a DMC game, this story is pretty terrible. But now that the dust has settled and we got a proper DMC5, and if you consider this story as its own thing, it’s pretty solid! And the gameplay is so insanely smooth that this game is sooo much fun to play! It’s worth checking out!
I highly enjoyed this game despite the critics about it being too emo or the fact the story has changed completely, the combat was fun and engaging, this game is in my top 3 favourite dmc games
Fuck this is some buggy ass game. All the constant weird stutters. Having to restart from the last checkpoint six times in mission 2. Secret mission on mission 16 crashing because the devs couldn't bother to make the angelic leap mechanic work properly.
I could give the bastardization of Dante's character a pass because the game was fun regardless, but with all the constant bugs and glitches I'd give this a pass.
Do i recommend this game? Yes, but for your consoles. I have seen people complaining about the bugs, crashes, and i can agree. There is too many crashes and bugs in this that i stopped playing and got it for the ps4. The reason i know it is not my PC is because i play games like Devil may cry 5, final fantasy XVI, and marvel's midnight suns and these games all run smoothly whether in high or low graphic settings. I tried high graphics and low graphics and both stutter and frames drop. I dont know if they can even fix this issue but this is a fresh reminder why consoles will always dominate over the PC versions.
This game is timeless. It's amazing. If you enjoy cool, rock, punk, main characters and trippy environments with a touch of horror elements, GET THIS GAME, but for your console because as of right now its unplayable.
After seeing the Netflix DMC, I owe this game and its story an apology.
If you overlook that theres no classic dante and vergil characters, the game is really fun and if you are a fan of the series you'll enjoy the gameplay
Game is great! Loved the intro to his story, can't believe I haven't played this game sooner! The soundtrack is amazing!
A really great iteration in the Devil May Cry series, the story gives more depth to the characters and gives you something to think about if you play the other games in the series.
Gameplay is still smooth for how old it is. I do have a small issue that the costumes do not stay while entering some cutscenes. I do also wish there was a way to change controller sensitivity.
All in all, if you're a DMC fan I would highly suggest this game.
I beat this game back in the day but I am a Devil May Cry sicko so I bought it again for no reason.
So I'll just give my thoughts anyway.
I think this game is underrated. I was initially mad that they were trying to reboot dmc but it didn't bother me so much once I played it. I thought it was an interesting take, especially with Virgil towards the end. It's a more serious tone overall and I liked it. I can't ignore the downright awful cringe moments like the "FUCK YOU!" "FUCK YOU!" "FUCK YOU!" "FUCK YOUuuuuuuuuuu!" scene however.
The level design was good to decent for all of it and amazing at others. The "tv" mission is a standout "how the fuck did they do that?" moment. Weapons are fun but nothing near as interesting as weapons from the original series, admittedly.
Overall, is it a bad game? No.
Is the original series better in every conceivable way. Yes(except dmc 2, and maybe dmc 1 if you aren't used to old games.}
Can I say that I recommend it? Honestly, yeah. This isn't a bad game, it's just not as good the original series.
We deserve the Definitive Edition on PC. I am pissed we don't have it. But I still recommend this game wholeheartedly. The storytelling is excellent, led by Alex Garland, the gameplay is rock solid (led by Capcom), and the soundtrack slaps (if you like that sort of thing). Personally, it's my favourite game in the franchise, and my top ten of all time. I'll forever be bummed that it failed to catch on. It still is a worthy reboot of a storied franchise.
