Storyless daemon logic with stretch 2k support and corrupted save file & card system
this one is back not optimized for modern PC
It's not bad... but it's definitely not as good as the original, has lots of bugs and not as fun as the original in its battles. Still, if you LOVED the original, you wil like this one for sure.
The best Painkiller Expansion pack not made by the original devs (Played with a handful of fix patches)
Painkiller Overdose is a expansion/sequel to the original Painkiller game developed by Mindware Studios. It follows a Half Angel and Demon called Belial as he's freed from his prison due to Lucifer getting his ass kicked by Daniel in the first game. From there he travels across a handful of realms in purgatory, doing the one thing you do in Painkiller games, killing everything on screen with variety of weapons. This was a game I'm surprise has backlash when compared to the original game cause in my opinion it's up there with like Battle out of Hell expansion it terms to layout.
Gameplay of Overdose is basically a slightly expanded upon version of the gameplay loop introduced in the original game. Enemies in large amounts making a beeline to kill you and you having the weapons and the determination to kill everything. Even stuff like the Tarot Cards, Gold, and the Souls Mechanics made it over and operate exactly the same. The main difference from this game other than the completely new levels, is Belial's choice of weaponry. While he does have some paraellese to Daniel's weapons such as a Shotgun and Minigun/Rocket Launcher type weapons, Belial does have some unique offering that I think make this game worth playing than any of the expansion packs that came after. Such as a Demon Head that shoots lasers and has a very effective altfire, a weaker version of the stake gun that is radioactive themed, fires faster, and has flamethrower altfire, and the most fun, a weapon that is basically a demonic version of Duke 3D's pipebombs. In a game where you have hordes of dumb enemies with a weapon that has incredibly good crowd control, it's easily a highlight throughout the whole game. Overdose's bosses battles are pretty mediocre, either being annoying if you don't know about the bunnyhop trick to painfully easy. Not exactly a dealbreaker but you're easily gonna get more out of the levels.
Since the gameplay is more or less the same for the levels, the next thing to note is the visual style. Graphically the Overdose looks on par or sometimes better than the original Painkiller. The game takes a note from Battle out of Hell's levels where each level has it's own theme, with completely new models, enemies, and enviroments to boot. Very rarely does the game reuse existing assets and when it does there's often a twist or they already fit within the theme. You got places like a Steampunk Airship Battle, a Enchanted Fairytale Forest, a remix of Loony Park from BooH, and much more! It really make you excited to see what kind of level is coming up next cause it would always be something fresh. Which is a very big strength to have in a game with a simply gameplay loop like this.
Overall, Overdose is a fine game to play if you're looking for more Painkiller after the Original and it's expansion. I'm not exactly sure why I've seen this game bashed compared to the original even though it functions basically like that game but with new stuff. While there are some annoying enemies, they're usually only around for one level. I think the main killer is the loading times which unpatched are insanely long from what I've heard. Thankfully there does exist a bundle of patches for Overdose specifically that made this a non issue, most of the crashes are got were similar to ones from the first game. I hope you've enjoy the ride cause other than one remake, every other game/expansion is downhill from here.

Terrible expansion, repetitive and broken.

Believe it or not, my dad used to let me play this when i was like 13-14 years old xD the only thing i was scared of was that head weapon since whenever you pull it out the character inspects it and i was terrified of it, shit was so scary to me i was forced to use only that shotgun weapon but oh well my "childhood" game, anyway the game itself is awesome and im glad i can buy it on steam to replay this gem like i used to before <3

DONT PLAY THIS EXPECTING A FUN AND INTRIGUING EXPERIENCE
Very cool horror shoot-em-up style game. I will say sometimes when it loads you back in, it'll bring you back in at the beginning of the chapter. And sometimes the game does crash even though I have the recommended specs.
the difficulty is all over the place, the levels are mostly flat squares, the tarot challenges are annoying at best and downright sadistic at worst, and all the guns save one are nothing but weaker copies of the original game. belial won't shut up and none of his quips are worth a hoot, and load times are oddly long for being a 2004 game I am currently playing on an SSD. and on top of all of that, the game just feels outright worse than black edition. the enemies don't react as well, there's not as much weight to the combat, there's all sorts of little things missing that add up to a truly inferior experience., I don't know why anyone defends this. it's mediocre at best, and not the upper end of it.
good game but long ass loading
