The masculine urge to shoot cats and rainbows out of a tank.
Unfortunately while this game shows a lot of promise, it takes all the things that made Scorched Earth great and flushes them down the toilet.
The round buying and money system is gone. Instead you gain ever more powerful weapons as you rank up and you get 10 or so weapons RANDOMLY assigned to you at the start of each match from your pool of unlocks. This ensures that there will never be an even playing field between you and your opponent. It also pretty much kills a lot of the strategy.
You can gain some nostalgia from this, but it's frankly kind of a weak attempt at Scorched Earth with a really pretty coat of paint. It might scratch an itch, but there isn't really much to keep you around.
Very Simple and straight forward game, so many weapons and game modes to choose from, Love it 10/10

Got this game for myself and a couple friends. Starts out slow, but a variety of gamemodes and a seemingly endless supply of unlockable and upgradeable weapons allows for an ever changing experience that never seems to get old. My only suggestion would be to add more settings to private games such as armor or tread max level maximums or minimums to give lower players a chance to fight.
This is a very good game. It's one of the first game's I've ever played that implement multiplayer, but doesn't make it needed to play with friends to have a conversation. This is the most friendly fan base I know and in a match you never know what you're going to be chatting about. Just a disclaimer though, this game is not for those with short attention span, because in some game modes a match can take more than half an hour, and if you're unlucky and die first, you need to watch the whole match to get the experience. Trust me you wan't the experience, because it's when you level up you unlock most of the weapons, and the level scaling is harsh, the first 70/100 levels are not so hard, but just so you level 78 needs around 900,000-1,000,000 experience, and yes this is a lot but level 100 needs over 9,000,000 experience in total, and just to put in perspective how much that is, the most I've gotten from single match that spanned for more than a hour is around 5,000, so don't expect it would be easy to get to level 100, you'll need around 1000 thousand hours, because I'm at level 78-79 and I've almost played 90 hours.
In conclusion you'll probably not finish this game that is about shooting at each other with a large array of weapons, because level 1000 which is the final level, craves that you play for hundreds of hours. But don't be scared away by this, personally I give it a 8,5/10, very good but I'm not spending these 900 hours just to get all achievements and weapons.
You should by this if you have time on your side and can play/watch matches that are over 30 minutes. And remeber to chat about something, because it's very likely that someone will reply and a start a conversation

Quick to learn, punishingly hard to master. Shell Shock Live is an incredibly simple game, yet with intensely complicated weapons. There are already hundreds of weapons you can own and within those weapons multiple levels to the weapons adding even more types of weapons. The main game is simple, move on a 2D plane with limited movement for that turn, pick a weapon and shoot at your enemy. That's it, yet it takes hundreds of hours to get okay at the game, another game to mess around with friends.

It's classic tank game from the flash era, but with the absurd arsenal of worms.
There's not much else to say; if that sentence sounds like your thing, you'll like shellshock.
I quite enjoy the experience system for both weapons and tanks. You slowly gain both weapon xx every time you deal damage with them, and tank xp when you deal damage in general. This encourages you to used weapons you don't naturally gravitate to in order to see what they evolve into. This can be a two-way street though, since the xp gain is damage based; this tends make good weapons easy to level and worse/niche weapons take forever to level up.
My only gripe is with how the devs handled the gears. The items in the shop take an absurd amount of gears to obtain. They are on the order of hundreds of gears, where you get an average of 3 per 20 minute match.
You used to be able to buy gears with money... but some update made it no longer "pay to win" (in their words)(so to speak). Now you only buy cosmetic tokens (a new-ish addition), which you also only earn 10 or so in a day while stuff costs hundreds in the shop.
The balancing of the currencies just feels way to grindy and bad.
6/10 solid fun with friends. Always a good time to boot up a few rounds of Shellshock with the bros.

It's really neat how you level up and unlock stuff, even in private lobbies with friends.

good learnig curve and kinda addicting
I used to play this game back in 2016-2018. Back when the hype for it had reached my eyes and its probable peak had been reached.
Let's just say that this game is still great and still holds up after all this time.
Even if you get targeted at the start of a match and are the first one to die, the game is still fun to watch.
Can't say that about some games, so a game like that is definitely high up there, don't you think?
This game is great to play if you also want to do something like watch a YouTube video on the side or something. That's what I do anyway. Sometimes the music is a bit repetitive, but it's still good, so I never turn it off. It's as casual as you want it to be, especially with all the gameplay modifiers, though I never play on the others, I just like the default of shooting more or less visually pleasing things and testing my accuracy.
Just creating a lobby and waiting for some randoms to show up, all the people I've played with have been casual and chill. You might have a different experience though, as I usually name my lobbies with "casual" in the title so that people know they can just join for the hell of it.
No idea what my experience was back when I originally got the game all those years ago, but I remember SSundee getting me into it, back when he peaked lol. I liked the game back then.
My old Steam account that I had gotten stolen back in 2020, and subsequently got back 4 years later says I have 19 achievements done, so I know I played it a fair bit at the very least.
Very cool game and I really like it. Ive been playing since 2020 and its still really fun would definitely recommend to other people looking for a fun and chill online game to try out.
GAME SUCKS BALLS BUT MAN IT FUN
here recently doing a security dive into this game we have found out that it opens SVC host (which it shouldnt) tries to do an appx deployment and for some reason gets your secureboot state and bios version.
some of this is common info and cool and all, but also it's inside many registrys that it shouldnt.
Why does a game need cmd line level stuff?

edited: found out it's LITERALLY cryptomining through debug stuff and looking at what its sending in and out.
fun side scroll tank game, you should go through practice alone before jumping into multiplayer. Tons of weapons and upgrade variety
I noticed a lot of other reviews mention the fact that they wish there was a player vs ai mode besides the training in single player but there is. it's not nearly as good as online but it does deserve to be mentioned.
ShellShock is an amazing game for whenever you just want to relax and shoot some tanks. the community for the most part is really nice too and you can have really good laughs during your time playing.
the beginning is quite grindy which can be annoying but once you start to unlock more weapons and upgrades the game becomes more enjoyable the more you play and i highly recommend at least trying the game out if it looks like your cup of tea.

Quite honestly, if you like this type of game, just go out and buy almost any of the worms games. This is Worms but in less balanced and with a worse play experience overall.
Let's start off with the good points though:
- very wide array of weapons
- rather open upgrade system
- easy to pick up
- great to quickly hop into a game with friends that isn't supposed to take ages
And with the negatives:
- Tank Level system takes literal ages, the XP one needs for lvl 100 is heavily overblown. By the time one reaches level 100 to unlock the final weapon, the game is either completely stale or you have only played it from time to time over a span of multiple years
- the "ranked" system is placebo
- weapon levels are weird. One levels weapons by hitting them, which in itself is not a bad idea, but having lower level weapons than your opponent basically decides a round before it starts.
- You basically NEED to have people around the same level as you are in both weapon and tank level. Match against someone with 20 levels (out of 100) above and the game is basically not playable.
- To expand on the previous point, level gaps get increasingly larger, eg reaching lvl 70 requires about 30k XP, level 100 requires about 880k. While this easens "running away" with levels, even a few levels are a difference that's frustrating to obtain.
- The single player missions for the most part are either too easy or require quite a bit of good RNG for the most part. There isn't much in the game to skill check at all.
All in all, it's fine if you want to play it with friends but then again, the worms games will do the same in a better and more balanced way. It's a game that is inexpensive, but many of you will probably not ever use all of the content, because it takes 100s of hours to even unlock every single weapon.

honestly, i didn't expect such a "simple" game to pull me in like it does, but it's actually really enjoyable. and whilst it requires some skill, it's also perfect for a relaxing evening. plus, suprisingly, the community is extremely nice. everyone is just there to have a good time and land the coolest trickshot.
got back to it after, like, 4 years of not playing it and it's just as enjoyable.

ShellShock is a great game to play with friends when you want to just chill and not take seriously i also feel like it helps with cognitive function because you have to think 3 steps ahead in order to win its a blast i love this game so much

Really fantastic game and experience. Wish sometimes I could just play solo/offline against bots but it's still great. Lots of fun if you have a few friends that play with you too!
It is a very fun game to play especially if you play with friends.
