Story
After the death of his mother, Tomoya Okazaki—a guarded delinquent student at Hikarizaka High School—struggles to not only make sense of the abusive relationship he has with his alcoholic father, but also find meaning in his life. While on his way to class one morning, he meets a mystifying girl named Nagisa. She is a delinquent like him, but only because she is repeating her senior year, unlike the perpetually tardy Okazaki. From their brief encounter, Nagisa decides they should be friends, and enlists Tomoya's help to revive the school drama club. Not being busy in any way, he decides to join in. Along the way, the two make friends with many other students and try to find both solace and belonging in their endeavors.New Features

clannad
Such an incredibly touching story.
If you loved the anime you will love this.
Watched Clannad back in 2010 and its one of the original pieces of Japanese media that really got me invested into anime as a whole and shaped what I would grow up to enjoy.
15 years later I return to Clannad as an adult and just as when I was a youth it still expressed itself to me in ways other media has not been able to, and with melancholy in my heart the only thing left for me to do is read it.
The happy and the sad. Clannad is a drama, romance, slice of life with a compelling and long tale that will get you invested into the characters and make you feel what they feel. You will laugh, you will ache and you will cry.
Thank You Sekai Project,
Thank You Kyoto Animation,
and Thank You Key.
Literally the most beautiful thing I've ever read. It'll always have a special place in my heart, worth the 120+ hours I've spent reading it 10/10, would absolutely recommend.
if you enjoyed the anime, then this is definitely worth the read
Climbing the hill
An excellently written and poignant visual novel. I was initially put off by the art style and steep-ish cost, but the art style really grew on me throughout my playthrough and I believe this VN is a must-play for anybody interested in the genre.
The first part of the game has multiple routes, all varying from mediocre to incredible (Kotomi's is absolute cinema). The second part, After Story, is where this VN truly shines. I've never been so entertained and heartbroken by a VN. The soundtrack is also just phenomenal and the voice acting just takes the experience to another level.
Though, of course, this visual novel is not perfect - in fact it has quite a few flaws: It is quite long, it does have some weird tropes (like Akio bro chill tf ab yo own daughter bro), the structuring of the paths (how you may miss out on certain CGs if you don't complete another route earlier), and so on.
A real tearjerker. Although it didn't change my life or anything drastic, this VN will definitely make you self-reflect - whoever you are. Even with it's flaws, it remains as one of the best and most essential visual novels.
If you enjoyed the anime it's a no brainer
The Visual Novel Bible
Made me a better person
All i need.
It's a pretty heartwarming story but takes a while to get going and is quite long. The afterstory section of the visual novel definitely brings it up a few points. If you have the time and want to experience one of the classics i would wholeheartedly recommend it.
Can't play this game without crying.
mission not to cry completely failed
Great game, i made a couple routes but for me tomoyo is the best character for a couple of reasons but it still has some routes that i need to do 10/10 i also cryed in the end... or i mean my eyes got some sand in it cof cof
Holy shit, people are not kidding, this games makes you ugly cry.
10/10
Very good VN, lives up to the reputation
base routes 8/10
After story 10/10
Are we cooked
Best story ever told
I like
This is an absolute masterpiece.
Kotomi's scenario should have been made canon
After already having watched the anime (a legendary), the visual novel somehow made me cry more than the anime.
Ps. Kyou best girl.
words cannot describe how well made this game is, such a life changing anime & vn game
clannad has brought me so many tears within the journey playing this game
i may seem overacting but if you have a great happy life for now please, just don't watch/play clannad, cuz it will change the way you think and this is DEPRESSION
Words can not express how impactful this visual novel was. Makes me teary eyed every time I think about it.
Clannad is an amazing experience and one of the biggest topics it covers is change. It starts out lighthearted, fun, and mysterious before getting serious and deep. This visual novel makes you feel joy, sadness, hope, and lost while also making you laugh. The characters are memorable with great designs and dialogue. Lots of routes and lore. An amazing soundtrack that helps convey the scenes. I love the portrayal of Nagisa's family which makes me want something like that of my own.
AND THE DAD, AKIO, IS THE BEST CHARACTER!
I put this novel off for so long. I saw bits of Clannad as a kid and it was a dream for me growing up. Here I am at 24 at the darkest moments of my life. This might be the perfect time for me to read it. It's a breathtaking experience and everything about it resonates so well with me because it feels so personal. The music is eternal, the art is expressive, the themes are personal, the characters are memorable, the SoL is engaging, and the story is from an age that is forgotten. If you're trying to reclaim your soul then you should read this.
Clannad was my favorite anime I ever watched, and it's just as impactful if not more impactful in Visual Novel form - I enjoyed pretty much every route, and Afterstory continues to be the most peak thing in existence.
(I pirated this game for like 99% of my playtime, that's why my hours are so low at the time of this review)
This is my favorite key game/anime! The OST is calming and I would recommend to any one looking for a good story.
Let me take my time to read
I never knew rain could feel this cold.
It's just..... so peak..... WHERE ARE YOU NAGISA 😭😭😭😭😭 I KNOW YOU'RE REAL WHERE ARE YOU????!!!!! 😠😠😠😠😠💢💢💢💢......
Crying
It's litteraly Clannad, what else can I say?
one of the best video game
experiences of my life
Could not get it to work on my PC so I read it on console. Anyways literally changed my life and is well worth even the full price. 10/10
It's a long and fulfilling journey.
PLAY THIS GAME ITS FRIKIN AWESOMEE!!
ran out of "it is what it is"
Nov. 21st, 2024 -
Read every route up to After Story so far. I didn't expect to enjoy this experience as much as I did. I got this game on sale for around 80 polish zloty (20 usd?) since "oh it's a Key game, I'll likely play it soon anyway" AND THEN I GOT HOOKED.
This is the first time I've cared about a visual novel so much to the point of needing to 100% it. Some routes are not perfect in my opinion, but I can't hate any of the characters. They're all lovable in their own way. I can't wait to see what After Story brings me. Watch the anime adaptation after reading this for a complete experience. You will never be the same after this.
watched the anime, loved it, iconic, will play the game fully in the future. i do love how it goes more in depth on the characters and the story than the anime, but i havent played this fully, so apologies for not giving a full review. iconic vpn, if you have the patience for it, play it.
Masterpiece, that’s all I wanted to say. An evergreen classic, beautiful soundtracks, emotional content, beautiful characters that are well written. And of course the most kind and beautiful girl Tomoyo<3
i cried a lot
Goated
Essential VN for drama lovers.
--MY ROUTE RANKINGS--
Of course Nagisa has the best story in all of them.
For second place I would say Kotomi's route. Club activities and the story of her was fun (in drama aspect too)
Can't realy decide on third place, Fuko and Kyou's route were equally fun. (not gonna mention Ryou because Kyou's route mostly contained Ryou)
Rest of the routes are good too but I'm not gonna rank them. (And I can't say "I liked this route least", because all routes were fun)
clannad is the best
Excellent story, a long one, but well worth the time
This read made me feel feelings I long forgotten. The only novel that managed to do it before was Everlasting Summer
✔️ Played on Steam Deck, it works fine (30/10/2024). 'R2/A' button to advance text and touchscreen for the menu.
It is a good read overall, although some of the routes felt incredibly long and dragging. Actually, there's no in between for the routes: they are either nice and emotional or boring as hell. Although I found Afterstory quite... interesting there's too much drama on it to my taste, to the point it becomes a bit ridiculous. It's just not my cup of tea, as I've heard it's a huge tearjerker for some people. I like how every character goes through different struggles in their daily life, some of them pretty relatable.
Clannad is a weird VN to me, because it manages to have so many high and low points at the same time. A big part of it is made up of a very hit-or-miss slice of life story and I was sometimes confused why it has the high rating it does. Then once you have managed to see all of the slice of life things (and probably have had to find a guide online to achieve that) you finally reach the after story, which deserves all the praise it gets.
In the end I would definitely recommend Clannad to everyone, but be aware that you will have to read a lot before getting to the more impactful moments.
