FFX was one of my first JRPGs and I was absolutely in love with it back then.
After all these years the story still made me tear up.
I used no mods and had no problems with the cutscenes and finished FFX completely (even all the achievements).
I alo played FFX-2, because I really want that perfect ending. And while I am not done yet, I am in the last chapter and very few things remain. I had no bug or crash ever.
FFX-2 plays quite different, but I still find it fun.
There have been worse remasters. The faces are a little weird, especially for FFX, but otherwise this version is a solid way to play.
Great game! It's been playing wonderfully on the Steam Deck. I highly suggest it for anyone interested in getting into the Final Fantasy series.
(FFX)
A great game with a lot of heart, and well written characters. It is marred by several agonizing gameplay elements. Straight up just google the trial puzzles and _never_ play blitzball. Didn't ruin the fun for me. I highly recommend.
Beautiful story, melodic music, amazing characters. I have played this game for years. Ever since it came out on Play Station 2. I would recommend this game to everyone till the day I draw my last breath.
one of the games of all times for me. cant recomend it enough, the story is well thought out and actualy gets you invested in it. and the gameplay is truly classic.
X-2 has savefile problem . i play it and save for a few times and then i'm on beside island and explorer on the map ,and my save file are corrupted it's roll back to first time i'm on the beside island everytime i load save file even i change location to another place and save it .
.
the old save file still there even i'm delete it on my pc
(Tl;dr: Play this, especially if you're a fan of JRPGs. Wordy explanation below.)
Absolutely recommended. As of the time of this writing, most of my playtime is mostly X but will move on to X-2 fully once X is done. I have played the originals on the PS2 and wanted to take a swing at the HD Remaster.
For X, You can choose between the original and arranged tracks/expert and standard sphere grid to tailor your experience the way you want it, make your weapons even stronger after a certain point and can choose to do the long grind to complete the game (optional superbosses for one, ultimate weapons, etc.) if you wanted to. Very easy to jump into with the mechanics and battle system and will show you how to do the mechanics.
For X-2, be forewarned: massive tonal shift. This is evident from the get-go. Like in X, you can also do the long grind but to do the 100% completion absolutely get a guide for. There is no negotiation because you will get lost and things that may not have mattered at first become a big deal overall. You don't have to play the first game for there's a section that will fill you in on key terms. I do strongly recommend playing X first to completely understand the overarching story. There's also the Creature Creator from the International version as well as Last Mission- a scenario that is post X-2 events and is a tower climber.
I love these games so much.
It's been said before, but this is, in my opinion, the best game for any aspiring Final Fantasy fan to start with. The Battle System is much simpler to comprehend, and the levelling system in the first game is fairly unique.
my most nostalgic game, i spent so much time playing this as a kid but decided to 100% X and X-2 after not playing since back then, and 160hrs later i have achieved that goal!
10/10 music
10/10 gameplay
10/10 terrorizing grind
I have been playing this game for over 2 decades, and if i see 2 more decades, ill play then too!
For it's time, and for being the first in the franchise to be fully voiced, FFX indeed was the best Final Fantasy to date. With a new combat system as well as an interesting leveling device, FFX was truly revolutionary for it's time and still holds up today. 5 stars, I definitely recommend this for all fantasy fans
An amazing upgrade with little to no changes to the original game play , allowing for an insanely nostalgic play through of this beautiful classic. worth it in every single regard in my personal opinion!
It regularly crashes when using the Turbo x4 function, and sometimes the CGI cutscenes don't play and it turns into a green screen for the duration of the movie
but overall it's still a masterpiece
The game itself is good, but the port itself has bugs and it crashes far too often to recommend this version.
After a lot of prodding from multiple friends, this year I decided to dip my foot into the ocean of JRPGs. I had never tried any of them and after a lot of discussion on what to start with, I decided to try the Final Fantasy series beloved by so many. It was quite fun watching them all argue over which one to start with. Everyone had their favorites and ideas on which one would be the best(and worst) one to start with. Ultimately that mostly consensus answer was Final Fantasy X. Starting out, it took some getting used to. An older game from the PS2 era, it was the first Final Fantasy game to have voice acting. As a result it was often stiff and inconsistent at times. The graphics weren't the greatest, but they were adequate enough and never really got in the way. Despite those issues, Final Fantasy X delivered one of the strongest and emotional stories I have gotten to experience. I have nothing but praise for the journey. Its raw and powerful, delivering twist and punch after punch where you really get to see the emotions of Tidus and Yuna on full display. Alongside them are is fantastic rag tag squad of party members that all have their quirks and flaws. I love a good "group of people with next to nothing in common joining forces and learning to care for each other" setup in a work of media so it was awesome.
The combat of the game aged surprisingly well. Turn based combat that flowed very well with a number of different attacks, types, and effects. The sphere grid was overwhelming at first, but as the game went on it made a lot more sense. Once you maxed out your specific character's abilities you could spec into another characters tree to get some additional coverage on some spaces that would give a new spell or increase melee damage. It was surprisingly robust and for a PS2 game I was impressed at how extensive it was. Yuna's Aeon summoning was my favorite part of the combat as the animations for both the summoning and attacks were awesome to see visually. It perfectly matched the idea of these super powerful beings hitting hard like a truck and more than one battle ended in my favor with a clutch summon or attack that felt like a movie triumph. Towards the end of the game some minigames opened up and they ranged from fun to a descent into insanity(I despise you chocobo racing). They were a nice change of pace to help with grinding and leveling up characters whenever I got stuck at a boss at that stage in the game.
As I got towards the end of the game, the boss battles started getting more frequent.....and a little more ridiculous. One of the bosses towards the end was a mammoth task with a mountain of hp, and when I finally beat it after a few tries I was rewarded with a rematch about 5 minutes later. The 2nd time had a time limit and the boss had like 5x the hp of the first time. I'd be lying if I didn't say the last like 5 hours of the game soured some of my enjoyment. I powered through the end with the help of some cheese and didn't feel bad one bit about it. Even after that the game kept throwing bigger boss after bigger boss and I found myself rolling my eyes a little more and more as I was just hoping this one was the last.
Despite the frustrating ending sequences, the game was fantastic. It was well paced, emotional, funny, and just an all around amazing game. Its an easy recommend to whoever hasn't played it, JRPG veteran or not. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll enjoy the memorable ride that Final Fantasy X sends you on.
Can't even remember how many times I completed this on PS2. Just a gem of a game that hasn't been replicated by any other. What really made it for me was the story, it was touching and beautifully written, and the expert sphere grid allowing you to almost do any skill/magic with each character made the hours poured into it worth it. X-2 wasn't all that bad but didn't live up to X
A classic that I've played over and over again. The story, gameplay, and all the grinding. Playing it again and seeing all the small hits and foreshadowings. It just makes it all that hard knowing what everyone else knows, but Tidus doesn't know. This is one of my favorite Final Fantasy of all time.
I still haven't finished this game but I thought it was quite unique. The best of it in my opinion has been the soundtrack and the places you get to visit. It surprised me a lot the amount of water sections you end up getting in the game since its beginning, which made me really think of its universe in a singular and immersive way. It's plot has been curious, mysterious and crazy so far and I'm hoping it will have an ending that makes sense. The battle mechanics and random encounters are annoying and slow, but patiently you can get used to them. The dungeons could be more fun to explore too, but they have some tricks and puzzles to work out at least. Then, even though it's a very linear game, it does have some collectables and secrets to sidequest and try solving. The late game moments of the game also get a wild change in the vibes that surprised and intimidated me a lot. Overall, I thought it was a good journey to try out besides everything, especially for its challenges, secrets, music and impressive cities and places
The game's cinematic cutscenes turn into a blank green screen with few working at times, didn't play very long and the game even just exit itself multiple times, thankfully it autosaved not long before, but this is not the definitive version to play.
A year ago today, my father passed away. 20 years ago I would sit on the couch, and play my game-boy while I watched him play this game. This game will always be one of my favorites, classic game, classic FF battle style. The grind works wonderful, and the game captures your attention, and the story is beautiful. I will always make time for this game. I highly recommend it.
Awesome story telling and lots of side quest stuff to do if thats the way you like to play.
Its nice to play it again since i owned it on PS2!!
Game is a masterpiece but I can't in good conscience recommend this port without heavy modding. FFX has a bug where all the FMVs just show a green screen (so the biggest story moments don't work) and FFX-2 crashes every hour or so.
Been replaying this game for 20 years. It was my first jrpg and first final fantasy. Its been a wonderful adventure.
FINAL FANTASY X is arguably the best game in the franchise.
The story is very well written, the characters too, and all the events make sense, are well built and inserted in the story.
The story is filled with phylosphic and ethical issues, and the cast is always really living those issues. This is close to a perfect game.
Many criticize its linearity, but I think it makes perfect sense for this game as we are in a pilgramage.
It also helps the narrative and world building.
The scenarios are all very well crafted and unique, and they will never feel tiring because the developers were careful enough to know how much time each area needs to be on screen. It's not like XIII where every single area feels like you're spending way too much time in it, especially because all screens in an area in XIII looks exactly the same from the last. That's not an issue in X.
X-2, on the other hand, has the most fun battle system in the franchines (IMO), but completely shits on the story X has built.
X-2 tries its hardest to neglect X's events and to disregard everything that had happened in X, which had a dark and dense story.
This port has many graphical issues, such as a green screen showing up during Sin cutscenes, and on steam deck it has random long loading screens. But most of all it crashes a lot, and sometimes you can go a while without a save. Absolutely terrible port, wish I could get my money back but I can. Thanks for the waste of money, Square.
Overall a great experience, some parts are very annoying like the temples, some boss fights and some silly dialogue.
9/10
best FF game EVER
Story of ff10 is so good
But the sequel ff10-x2 isn't that bad but suffers in the story
It's so good. No cutscene skipping. But a 2x and 4x speed for most action sequences (walking around/battles)
Amazing game but had a lot of crashing issues until I applied the " 4GB Patch " to the ffx.exe and it's worked without issue ever since :D
Seems to be an issue with many console ports etc. which are only allocated 2GB of RAM allowance.
Anyway most people know the game is awesome, so that probably just goes unsaid lol
FFX is amazing, the world, story and characters so well written. One of my favorite Final Fantasy games. I am a bit biazed since I tend to love most Final Fantasy games. Still I will strongly recommend this for everyone who love an old style turn based game.
FFX-2 is not very good so this I only recommend for FF fans who want to play all the FF games.
There was a few bugs and crashes for me but all in all it was running well. The autosave function worked well for me when the game crashed, but I did also save at every save point.
I replayed FFX after 20 years on the ps2. I thought I completed it, but I actually didn't
The first 80% of this game is A+ super awesome. The story, the journey, the characters are wonderful. The music is memorable top tier. The combat system was a great but got a little repetitive after a while. Some of the puzzle sections were great and creative.
Around the last 20 percent of the game, there was a difficulty spike. 18 yr old me gave up around the 3rd seymore boss. The difficulty became increasingly frustrating the farther I progressed towards the end.
I was forced to level grind, but luckily this time I have cheats to one shot mobs and cut the tedium and time spent.
I got to the final boss and it was impossible without going back and grinding. Kind of disappointing to not be able to beat it organically without level grinding.
In the End, the game kind out outstayed it's welcome and I just wanted to finish it. Some of the mobs would nuke you for a game over, WTF? Every time you die on a boss you have rewatch the same 5 minute unskippable cutscenes. Since this is a retro game its forgivable.
The game never seemed to want to end. I finished feeling disgusted, but also fulfilled at the nostalgic first 80% of the game. The final grade is an A-
The journey was worth it.
The game itself is excellent for its time. I can also tolerate green screen instead of FMV because I can patch the game. But crashes after hour long boss battles in part 2 are inexcusable. No one bothered to fix this years after release of course.
Way too many glitches with the video and the gamepad will not function at times. Have to download a third-party work around to try fixes just to play the game. The ROM and PS3 emulator worked much better.
This game has been played so many times by me, from PS2 days, all the way to now. I have been and always be a major fan of the entire FF series, and I hope one day I can get my kids involved and into the series as well.
I have played this game well over 10000 hours since I first found it while buying my PS2. Grab the project X mod pack to make the game run better and enjoy the ride.
A game played for 40 hours for a 20 min cutscene at the end, 11/10
Regardless of what people think, this is one of the best Final Fantasy games out there. Amazing soundtrack, a battle system that works incredibly well, one hell of a story, and characters that will definitely stick out. Yes, the voice acting is definitely cringe, but considering it is the first FF to have voice acting, it's actually not as bad as people make it out to be.
this is in my top five games of all time for good reason. every aspect of it is beautiful and enjoyable. the music, the art direction, the gameplay, the characters, the story -- all of it makes for a well-rounded masterpiece of a game. easily one of the best FF titles to date and a great starting point for anyone looking to get into the series. if you havent already, please give FFX a chance. <3
The game crashes a lot. It crashed at 2 hrs and 15 nins which is pass the return time. Do not recommend buying the game due to crashing.
Don't buy this version, the game crashes very frequently and you'll lose hours of progress. I've tried playing on steamdeck and pc and they both suffer from the same issue. Take a look at the community discussions, lots of ppl seem to be running into crashes as well.
Its been 20 years since I played the original, I never had a chance to finish it as a kid. Now pushing 30 and married, I decided to give it a go one last time and managed to beat both games.
My advice: buy it, get that fix of nostalgia, bask in the 2000s tropical beach vibe, listen to the incredible OST and switch off your mind.
Incredible story and the best turn combat system ever made imo!
A classic game with great story and a good turn-based combat system that is really enjoyable.
The end game is a nice and chill grind for the best armor and stats.
Highly recommended, though I would love if you could just skip the cut scenes (there are mods for that though).
The combat against bosses and super bosses are an upgrade from the previous titles; specifically 7 & 8. The downside is the forced mini-games. You cannot upgrade your best weapons without completing some timing puzzles.
The item grind is hell, and completely unbalanced. I was literally counting how many times I needed to kill an arena boss. "I need 60 X spheres, I get about 4 spheres a kill, so I need to kill this boss 15 times.", "It takes about 2 to 4min to kill said boss so that means it could take anywhere from 30min to an hour to get the stock I need for 1 item upgrade." I'm taking into consideration the rare Dark Matter drops the will replace my wanted item.
The chocobo interactions in this game are sad. You cannot breed, you cannot capture and store, you cannot race against more than 1 chocobo. You just use them to ride through areas and to access areas that you cant walk to. You can train a wild one, but its not really training. It's basically you running around like a chicken without a head, getting birds and balls thrown at you. The birds can even spawn directly in front of you, impossible to avoid. Beat the trainer in a race with a time of -0:00.000; beating super bosses is easier, because the birds are dive bombing cheaters.
I personally cannot stand blitzball, because the opponent always seems to have the advantage. I was using Jecht Shot with 22 shot on a goalie with only 19 catch, standing inside of the goal, and it was still caught. I read guides about it, I set up a sweet team. It doesn't matter, because you always have to cheese the game to win it. You get the fastest swimmer, Brother, and you swim around the edges, luring the other team away from the goal, then you pass it to Tidus and Jecht Shot it in.
The story is unique and weird, but interesting to the end. I stomped this game. Things I avoided, the "dodge 200 seizure flashes", the repeatable chocobo content, the butterfly chaser, and that thing at the end, X-2, yeah no, I'm not going to play that.
great graphics and love the added challenges compared to the originals
First ever Final Fantasy game and it DELIVERED. Especially for the time when this game actually released during the PS2 era, this game is truly timeless. One of my top favourite JRPGs for sure. Have not played FFX-2 quite yet but FFX made me want to put out this review as soon as I was done. Now for its graphical textures I would kinda get that it may be a bit off putting at first but as the game progressed, everything naturally grew up on me. Not to mention the top tier OST that this game has, along with its great storytelling and world building. I have no favourite characters in this game - every single one of them are my favourites! Would highly recommend for any JRPG fan to play this game at least once.
10/10. For FFX of course.
WE FINALLY MADE IT TO THE BIG LEAGUES, BOIS! PS2 GRAFIX AND VOICE ACTING! This was the last mainline Final Fantasy game that I played and essentially the end of the series for me, marking this the end of my nostalgic gaming memories (not including random FF spin-off games). I never played FFX-2 or its spin off prior to this, so I'll break this review into 3 segments.
FFX
I love this game so much. This is truly one of the most impactful games of my childhood, the plot and main characters blew my 9yo mind away the first time that I ever experienced this game and honestly, even in 2024 everything holds up pretty well. FFX did such a great job of introducing so many new and unique concepts into its fictional world and culture in a such a compelling way that it's hard not to get sucked into the plot and the main cast's personal drama. The entire time I was playing FFX I kept trying to figure out who my favorite character was and honestly, they're all my favorite character. I think I might be more knowledgeable on Spiran-religion than I am on actual real-world religion after almost 100 hours of getting all achievements. I've been putting off writing this review because I'm not capable of expressing how truly amazing and captivating it was to experience this game as a child, but experiencing it again as an adult isn't that much different. There’s so many cutscenes I have engrained in my memory from after all these years… I don’t think I can possibly write an unbiased review of this game. If you like JRPGs and/or Final Fantasy, then play this game.
The only negative I can think of is that I don't like the way that the remaster changed Tidus and Yuna's faces, it really screwed up my immersion as everything comes off as jarring compared to the memories I have of the original PS2 version.
This game has one of the HARDEST cheeses in all of FF history…
Zan… Ma… TO!
FFX-2
I fucking hate this game so much. This was truly one of the worst gaming experiences that I’ve ever had in my life. This game is nothing but cringy fanservice with a half-assed job-system duct-taped to it. Trying to get a 100% first-time playthrough almost made me give up gaming (I got 99.8% and missed the secret ending). I’ve always thought statements like this were overly dramatic but FFX-2 was the first game to ever truly make me feel that way. This took me almost 4-5 months to finish because I spent 2 months not playing video games and being a productive member of society due to video games pissing me off so hard. The tediousness of the game, horrible pacing, story and pretty much everything else compounded with frequent crashes on Steam Deck almost broke me (I had multiple 20+ minute Trema fights crash on me but I eventually fixed it by switching Proton packages). I’m so angry that I had to experience this game to truly complete FFX and would give anything to wipe the memory from my brain. Don’t play this game if you don’t have to. Don’t listen to the people that say this and FFVIII are “AKSHUYALLY good games with good battle systems” they are lying to you and don’t love you.
FFX-2: Last Mission
This one is ok I guess. I hate dungeon crawlers and games that overly rely on RNG. I can’t see any way to realistically complete this game and/or get the achievements for it without utilizing/abusing autosave. If FFX-2 was JUST something minor like this and not a full-length game full of timewasters and recycled assets I probably wouldn’t be as mad (although this game is technically full of timewasters and recycled assets from FFX-2). Not the worst game I’ve ever experienced but I wouldn’t play this either unless it was necessary.
Overall, the continuity of FFX is… kinda horrible and I would never recommend anyone dive as deep as I did (FFX-2.5 does not exist), but I will always recommend FFX at the very least. IMO it’s one of the best Final Fantasy games, one of the best PS2 games and is one of the best JRPGs ever created.
ffx is realistically one of the best rpgs ever created. everyone deserves to experience it at least once,
Blast from the past that you can play with no issues on Steam Deck with proton experimental setting.
FFX is 23 years old and is still considered to be the best entry into the series. I am not going to say that it aged well and I hope this game will game an actual remake in the future. The story, setting, music and combat - it's all great. Some bosses are extremely challenging but it really made you think about different ways to battle.
Puzzles and challenges like dodge a lighting 200 times are horrible and I would encourage to either skip them or watch few tutorials. Also the fact that you can't skip cut scenes made me pause for a few days.
Great game overall, 100% recommend it to any JPRG fan.
FFX2 is a mess. The fact that only 3% of the player base have an achievement for killing the last boss says something. The game is pretty meh. 99% of the game you just mash attack button and win fights. Not too crazy about it but worth playing if you enjoyed the setting of the first game.
Overall, great two games that you can spend 70+ hours having a good time.
Okay the laughing scene is NOT BAD people just make fun of it with no context. Wakka is racist. Goth mommy. Kimari is best boy, me give hug. Religion bad. BOOOOO stinky church BOOOO. Masterpiece buy now.
