First game has a fantastic atmospere and basic but very solid controls 10/10
Second game is very hit & miss, tries something different with the amulet system but the tediousness & Lack of memorable anything makes the game a chore to go through 3/10
Third game is fucking good 12/10
Devil May Cry is a game franchise that I've heard of for a while but never really played the games as a kid. So, When i saw every DMC game on sale for only one full price game, I had to pick it up. The DMC HD Collection is easily one of my new favorite games. DMC1 was so fun and had a good amount of difficulty, DMC 2 was sadly a cake walk in terms of difficulty (plus the storytelling was ass), and DMC 3 is now easily one of my favorite games of all time. this collection was very much worth it for all 3 games, the story is incredible, and you really get invested in every character. Must buy 10/10.
Short and sweet.
DMC1 - The legend of all DMC games, set the staple of what good should be and the gothic tones really added to the elements that is DMC, loved it. Combat is amazing for the first title and continues to date to be one of the best titles, a remake is a must!
DMC2 - Dogshit, stay the fuck away from this game, it is so unpolished it is not even a joke, the enemies have no AI and you can literally stand there holding Square and win, pointless, shit story. Moving on.
DMC3 - The rebirth of DMC after the shortfalls of DMC2, 3 is like a love-letter to the DMC1 fans and it delivers in every way, the gameplay is tuned up for better combat, The AI works, the story links to the first game in that it is a prequel, this is the first time we see and get to play as VERGIL! DMC 3 is still to date either rank 1 or 2 for the best DMC game in the series, 5 is close but V ruins it. 3 for it's time is iconic. The music, the bosses, Temenigru, Dantes dialog, it's all here!
Bought this from sale, did not regret a single thing. Played DMC 1 first, the combat despite being simple was still very fun and a good introductory game for this series (atleast for me). But man, when DMC 3 was one of the best games in the series, they weren't lying. The jump of quality from DMC 1 and DMC 3 is so great I was actually shocked how well the combat worked in that. Really must try game, it is super worthit.
Never had the chance to play this when they are on PS2 since I was Xbox boy at that time. 20 years later now I'm trying DMC DMD for the first time (almost finished).
Great game, soundtracks are good, combat system is interesting. It is more interesting going in blindly then later found out that there are many other things such as hidden location, slash cancel, quickshooting, grenade rolling, and many more...
I can see why this is a prime in its time (For me this game is better than the hack & slash GoW on PS2).
Will try DMC3 later and skip DMC2 for my own sake.
For a re-release, it's pretty good! Got it on sale. Camera's a bit borked though for DMC3 but... not so bad for bringing to present-day gaming PC's.
For the nostalgia and music it is insanely cool...but the camera on these 3...is the most powerful enemy
If you want some cool animations and nostalgia I recommend this collection.
If you are just playing for the plot...go watch a walkthru on youtube these games cameras are not fun enemies to fight.
So far I've only completed the original Devil May Cry out of this collection but even that alone is totally worth the price of this collection. Game is way ahead of its time for 2001 and I imagine 3 will be even better.
DMC1: Capcom failed successfully at making a Resident Evil game! While some of the difficulty spikes made me shout at my Steam Deck, this was a fun experience overall, which holds up decently well (coming from someone who has only played DMC3 as a kid).
DMC2: (coming soon)
DMC3: (coming later)
People like DMC1, those people are heavily biased and rely entirely on nostalgia. DMC1 is bad, DMC 2 is worse, DMC 3 is incredibly good, get this game one of the frequent times it goes on sale and play the modern games, 3, 4, and 5; 1 and 2 are bad, the reboot is alright and still very funny, but only because it's unironically bad.
>Buy something called "Devil May Cry '''''''''''HD''''''''''' Collection"
>get a version of DMC that looks worse than on the ps2 and has graphical glitches like flickering shadows, while emulated DMC3: Special Edition runs smoothly, works perfectly fine and actually looks better because it doesn't have missing effects or flickering shadows
Thanks Capcom.
The collection is pretty solid. I have no complaints as I haven't noticed any game breaking bugs or any bugs for that matter.
Playing a PS2 era game that I had missed out on made me feel young again.
On a more serious note, I'm loving this port. The game runs extremely well and alas, it has ULTRAWIDE support, something that even some modern games neglect!
So far I've played the 1st one only, and I'm having more fun than I anticipated. If you're more used to modern gaming desing and are afraid that this will be too hard/weird for you, don't. The game is very intuitive with minor hiccups that can be easily fixed by a quick glance at a guide if you want to. Difficulty wise, it's totally fair and fun on Normal mode, hard mode will obviously be hard. No need to play on easy and feel like you're cheating. Playing this now also made me realise that games weren't THAT hard back then, I was just stupider and didn't spole english. Gameplay wise, this one doesn't have many combo possibilities compared to modern hack'n'slashes, but I actually like that. Keep hitting the enemy to keep the combo going, simple, direct and fun. The weapons are also very fun to use and even a bit OP.
Oh, and amazing sale as well. Props do CAPCOM for this one, ya'll did good.
Devil May Cry 1 is fun.
Devil May Cry 3 is great.
Devil May Cry 2
Always loved the DMC series. It was first game series I played growing up on the PS2 and am so glad it's on Steam! I haven't known any other hack and slash it can compete with and lose to. The gameplay is great but I do have one complaint. The scenes do not match the audio and they lag. And I'm not sure how to fix this; I want the full experience. If anyone knows a way to fix it I'd love to know!
perfect idea of hack and slash, the gameplay and music are soooo good, vergil is hot asf too
Devil May Cry: Really good but you get lost all the time and bad music, the controls are ok and should be forgiven because is the first game of the frenchize. Overall: 7,75/10
Devil May Cry 2: Same problems of getting lost and really bad story arc for each of the characters forgetable villain and forgetable everything. Music is as bad as not having it, but they the controls got even better and fluid, making Dante a real badass. Overall: 7,5/10
Devil May Cry 3: Even Better than the previous two, includes the best story of the 3 of them, including one of the most iconic and remarkable characters, that being Vergil. Not just that but the game have a lot more personality defining and stabling Dante as a character. Incredible Ost (Devils Never Cry is the banger), and perfection of the controls, including the different combat styles and very fun weapons to play, making Dante even more bad ass and specially, very fun to play with. Vergil is even more bad ass and fun to play. Down side is the graphics not as much remastered as they could being very old, but that doesn't make the game worse, just a little bit unpolished. Overall 9/10
HD Collection: Could include more things, more fans arts or devlogs and very buggy and not as Polished as it could be. Overall: 4/10
Overall for all of them: 8/10, still very good colection besides of the collection problems.
DMC 1 and DMC 3 are amazing games and DMC 2 is quite literally the worst game I've ever played
Gameplay has aged terribly on all 3, also crashes constantly with the "new" update
perfect gameplay amazing story and concept
Gameplay has aged terribly on all 3, also crashes constantly with the "new" update
The game doesn't want to start
AT ALL
I tried everything: windows compatibility, replacing the .exe
Nothing works
Capcom,please fix ur game
first game is great, second one is BORING and annoying and the third one is AMAZING.
Excellent port for an excellent series!
Almost no complaints here. Install it and every game works right off the bat at 60 fps. I've heard of a few potential glitches in Dmc 1, though I didn't experience any of them.
These games have aged a bit in terms of graphical fidelity, but the art style more than holds up. The Gothic architecture is reminiscent of an old cathedral and the atmosphere is palpable. The soundtrack also matches this vibe - especially in Dmc 3, that game has an unbelievably fantastic soundtrack. You'll quickly forget that the games are 20+ years old.
In that regard, what also helps is the insanely fluid combat. Like, holy shit insanely fluid and responsive. Very few games of this age have the same depth when it comes to gameplay. You can seriously get lost in the combos, lol.
- Just skip Devil May Cry 2. It isn't even worth trying.
The story can be very silly and over the top, but it has genuinely endearing and captivating moments. Especially Dmc 3.
Highly recommend this collection if you're trying to get into the series.
Hate to admit, but 1 and 2 HAVE NOT aged that well (still need to try to get into 2 more, i recall really liking it but right now i couldn't bother getting past mission 1 and just jumped straight to 3). Also gave up on the first one around mission 17 or so, i used to love the whole trilogy, but the RE camera angles of the firs don't really work well for a game like this in my mind anymore, not to mention it has exacly 4 bosses that it reuses over and over, and they aren't even that good to begin with, plus an extremely annoying final boss which is another reason i gave up on it. HOWEVER, while this may seem like i'm just talking from a negative aspect and not being affected by nostalgia blindness anymore now, the thing is, 3 is still one of the smoothest action games ever made, and one of my all time favorite games, that hasn't changed and it never will. It really blows my mind that it's a PS2 era game, so much ahead of its time in terms of gameplay, and also has the best story in the whole franchise by far. So, to sum it up, while the first 2 games have aged very poorly, the collection is worth buying for 3 alone.
The first game was pretty good but there wasn't all that much story other than the explanation at the beginning and some of the cutscenes, the combat is nice and there’s not really a lot to complain about, overall good game.
The second has even less story, the walking is a bit annoying as it only lets you run if you move a certain direction, the combat is alright but adds some new things, I did like the ending for the Lucia disk, kinda mid.
Dmc 3 is objectively the best one out of the 3, I’ve only played up to 6 missions so far but I’ve enjoyed all of it, lots of cutscenes and looks to be a good story, the combat is fluid and fun and I bit challenging, might be my favourite game.
If you like only want to play the important ones, play 1 and 3,
They’re really good games.
This is the best game oat istg dude, the combos are endless the fun the replayability boy it's just fun asf
This keeeps better and better <3
I adore this game. Spent so much time playing on my old pc when I was a child <3
definetly worth to play
9/10
DMC 1 was an admittedly outdated, but still enjoyable beginning to the series
DMC 2
DMC 3 was a great evolution of the original
People give the first game more hate than it deserves but maybe its because I love the setting
The third game is just as incredible as everyone says
We dont talk about the second
Amazing game. Remenbering old days with my PS 1 and 2. Have a lot of fun
DMC1 is a bit outdated, but was charming and fun for a first-time play-through, and I'm considering getting the achievements. Holds up surprisingly well, although I disliked having a cinematic final boss. Looks like we have a winner!
DMC2 my beloathed.
Cameras fucked up, combat semi fucked up, story fucked up, and you expected us do to that TWICE??? I loved the ground combat with non-flying enemies, it was smoother and felt good. But then it introduced a jankier forced lock-on and flying enemies that never touched the ground. And when they said some bosses were literally just RBumper + Left Face Button ad infinitum... they weren't lying. :(
I'll return once DMC3 is finished. But its SO good so far.
DMC 1 - Is very resident evil like. Very good combat and level design. But pretty cringe cutscenes.
DMC 2 - Absoulte garbage story and mid combat
DMC 3 - Everything is great, the story, character, bosses, and cutscene. definatley a must play
Really fun game, thought it was a bit weird and clunky but just now got the full hang of how the game works and I enjoy it a lot definitely better than 2 and 1.
100% DMC3 was fun.
100% DMC was a bit annoying but overall an enjoyable experience.
100% DMC2 makes me hate my life more than League of Legends.
dmc1 = solid and earnest game foundation in terms of atmosphere, characters and story ( 7 out of 10 )
dmc2 = i ask myself why so many times before i give up on the second boss ( why out of 10 )
dmc3 = my first awakening towards dante being hawt af ( 10 out of 10 )
I bought this game and now it has stopped working completely for a reason i cannot discerne. I cannot get my money back.
Positives:
+ It contains Devil May Cry 3
Negatives:
- It contains Devil May Cry 2
Absolutely cinema even though i'm a monkey and want to play dmc3 (i never play any game of dmc series before) it's a good game, but for the first time i feel it hard as f. RECOMMEND FROM MONKEY
A massive figure emerges, its skin black as obsidian, veins glowing faintly with the infernal heat from within. Its eyes are like twin embers, burning with ancient malice and wisdom. The creature stands on cloven hooves, towering, with elongated horns that spiral out like a crown of fire. From its back sprout wings, leathery and torn, flapping as ash swirls around its form.
Demon:
"You dare cross into the realm of perdition, mortal?"
Its voice is a guttural snarl, layered with an unnatural echo that reverberates like the tolling of a thousand distant bells. The demon grins, revealing rows of jagged, razor-sharp teeth.
Demon (cont.):
"I am Yomitsu, warden of the unholy and keeper of souls condemned for the final judgment. Since the dawn of your fragile world, I have wandered the abyss, feeding on the sins of mankind. Mercy, in the eyes of the damned, is just another form of cruelty."
Dante: "Shut up, you fat bitch."
(Industrial EDM starts playing at loud volume as Dante dive kicks the demon 50 times until he dies)
Out of these three games first one is my favorite. It has the eerie atmosphere, fun gameplay, banging OST, mem(e)orable cutscenes. A legit 10/10 game.
DmC 3 is stupid fun. If you could switch styles while playing the level it would be even more fun (only nintendo version let's you do that).
DmC 2 isn't even a finished game. Levels don't feel connected, cutscenes make no sense, playing is not fun. Just gun and you'll be fine. (Dante's real second game is SMT3 Nocturne Maniax edition)
As an existing fan of the Bayonetta series, it was interesting to delve further back with the Devil May Cry HD Collection. This collection has made me interested in playing more from the series. Given this contains three games, I'll provide a general impression per title:
Devil May Cry
The one to start 'em all—and it feels like it. What's fun is you can tell this is a would-be Resident Evil 4 by its atmosphere and puzzles. Once I had control of Dante, what stood out most to me is the dynamic camera. This would go on to be a fixture of the collection and something to get used to, in particular when you're fighting enemies on the boundary of two angles; it can become disorienting. You may find yourself fighting the controls initially. I forced myself to play on Easy for my first time so I could defeat a boss. Characters' dialogue is cheesy, but in a fun way. There's one line toward the end I'm still thinking about. I'd be willing to replay it one day. As far as I know, this entry does not have the option to select specific missions; it's the whole game, then the whole game again. Something this has that I wish the other two did: It shows your exact position while looking at the map. The others simply tell you your general area.
Devil May Cry 2
I knew nothing about this entry than it's "bad," according to fans. Right away, Dante's controls feel positively iterative; for example, he has a dedicated dodge button and a tad more mobility. Mission Select is available. A word of warning: I came into a bug which makes Dante run while pressing the stick in cardinal directions and walk in ordinal directions. To fix this, I adjusted the advanced settings of my left stick via controller overlay; I swapped the stick response curve from "linear" to "aggressive." This makes menus a bit sensitive, so you might use the D-pad for those. Be sure to change it back for the next game. With regard for its reputation, I thought it would be worse than it is, but I also see it's not been mislabeled. The game is less challenging overall, and Dante's character writing differs from the first game. I played both routes and although they're similar, I strangely preferred the other?
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
THIS is what I call a step up. It's no surprise DMC3 is a favorite among fans. Its combat is the best and most robust of the collection, the story the most compelling, and the presentation is over-the-top stylish in a way you might recognize if you've played Bayonetta. It is a stark contrast with the second game how much more challenging it is. Some bosses took me a few tries! If you're likewise a series newcomer, it may be tempting to skip to this title. However, if you have any intention to play the others, just play them in order and appreciate what changes come along the way. The first two are short enough you could probably finish them same-day.
TL;DR - This collection made me put DMC4 and DMC5 in my library.
its a 10/10 but its a little outdated trust me for a game this old its accthly didnt age that badly also if you do play the game i recommend after the first Playthrough to download ddmk mode
DMC 1 and 3 are one of the most fun games I've ever played. A must buy for those 2 games, I only played the first few missions of DMC 2 and it was very boring so I skipped it. Great franchise 10/10!
Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 are some of the best action games ever. The combat in these games is a masterpiece, rivaled only by the likes of Ninja Gaiden.
This game prolly my bich at this point, I MAKE LOVE wit tha Devl Make Rightree vro
crashes my whole desktop every time i switch windowss but its ok cuz like its SAURRR PEAAKKK
The true successor to "Angel Will Laugh"
Royal Guard out of 10
one of The best game I’ve ever played in my life, but DMC2 wasn’t that bad. It just had the worst gameplay in the whole series, and the camera issues were even worse than in the dmc1. I can’t find a single problem with DMC3
I am like dante.....ummmmmm if he was actually like cool. YEAH. Like a bad boy. Get on my level Dante. LOSER!
