Update 29: Will of the Council (December 2018)
Building on the hugely ambitious groundwork laid out by New Foundations, Update 29 - Will of the Council - continues to address the amazing feedback we’ve received from the community during Early Access, and is another momentous milestone for the ongoing journey that is Worlds Adrift.
Together, New Foundations and Will of the Council mark our most significant update to Worlds Adrift yet, not only introducing a multitude of bug fixes and performance tweaks (including a significant improvement to FPS) but also a selection of highly-requested and game-changing features.
EXCITING ADDITIONS INCLUDE:
As requested by our community, the PvE server arrives as an alternative option to the current PvP server, to allow for a more exploration-based style of play.
Proximity Voice Chat - Bark orders, bellow threats and plead for your life, all from within game now!
Expanded Customisation - For the first time ever, travellers can now craft their own unique clothing and equipment by hunting creatures for their skins, and foraging plants for dyes.
Personalise your vessel with a selection of fittings and fixtures, from tables to chairs, lamps to wall art.
Ciphers - These salvageable devices allow you to tink and tailor your ship’s stats. Want faster engines but less powerful cannons? Done!
Ship Painting - Further customise your beloved vessel by individually painting its various parts and components.
Another suggestion to surface from Early Access, Haven is a tutorial starting zone to better prepare travellers for the world of Foundation.
Cooking - Travellers can now cook a range long-lost recipes. From Manta Curry to Marauder Rum (great together!), unlock a range of nutritional buffs.
Epheremus Drifter - Jump from ship to ship, island to island, with the Epheremus Drifter; an atlas-fuelled jetpack!
Suffice to say, New Foundations only marks the beginning of what’s to come for Worlds Adrift. As always, we’re enormously grateful for your ongoing support, and greatly anticipate what we’ll continue to achieve together come next year… and beyond!

I don't know, man. Sometimes you just fall in love. People, places, games. This one was mine. It's not like I don't remember the wealth of bugs and bad times, but they just didn't matter to me. I loved everything that this game was trying to do, and there are so many things to choose from. The floating-island setting, the aesthetic, the storm walls, the music, the progression, the grapple system, the ship building, the community. Everything.
You built your scrappy vessel from scratch, out of materials you gathered yourself. And then you would take this wanting home with you, trying to survive the dangers of this world and of your own. With many failures and reprisals, you would slowly gain the knowledge to transform yourself and your flying ship into a celestial marvel to be reckoned with.
I really could go on and on, gushing about each facet of the game I mentioned, and more. I could talk about the people I found inspiring, of Meister Keen's ideals, of Xerzie's knowledge, of Lexhy's islands, of Loryenne's art. I have written it. I've erased it. It's sad, but it simply doesn't matter anymore. You had to be there.
Thankfully, there's a certain game on the horizon that I believe will be worth hoping for again.

This wasn’t just a game to me—it was a dream come to life, a canvas for countless adventures, a community that I could call home. Though it only took two years before the skies went dark, its legacy endures, stirring the thoughts of those fortunate enough to have experienced such a breathtaking piece of gaming history.
From the moment I first set foot on a floating island, I was captivated. Worlds Adrift offered something rare: the chance to forge your own path in an open, persistent world. Every ship I built told a story—of triumphs, defeats, and the friendships I had forged along the way. They weren't just metal and wood; they were a piece of me, a reflection of my creativity and determination. By offering such a flexible yet simplistic building system, the possibilities felt endless.
The physics-driven mechanics were nothing short of revolutionary. Grappling across islands and swinging through the air was exhilarating, as if you could feel the rush of wind and the weightlessness of true freedom. Worlds Adrift always encouraged players to experiment, to explore, and to embrace the unpredictability of the world around you. It wasn’t perfect—storms would tear ships apart, and rival crews could reduce hours of effort to scrap—but that was part of its charm. Success felt earned, and losses were considered lessons.
But in the end, it was the atmosphere that made the journey so unforgettable. The music, masterfully composed, emphasised each moment of wonder, danger, and discovery. Both the sky and the land felt alive with players crafting their own narratives, whether as explorers, raiders, or generous souls offering aid to stranded travellers. The interactions felt genuine, creating a sense of connection that no other universe has been able to replicate, even now, as the wreckage lies still in the shadows of a fading era.
You had a good run :(
May Worlds Adrift be mourned until a studio has the sense to replicate it...
I miss this game.
I escaped the real world for a couple of hundred very short hours, during the hardest time of my life, thanks to worlds adrift.
When the game shut down it felt like losing a real friend. Knowing I'd never get to float between islands again.
I come back over and over hoping to hear their voice again, but I never will.
R.I.P World's Adrift, and thank you for having existed, if only briefly.
such a great idea, but abandoned without any notice.
Couldn't they just have left it open stopped developing it and opened it up to the community and modders to keep it going ? its weird they pulled the plug on it and pulled the servers. It was a cool unique game. I feel like a lot of people where still into it before they turned it off.

Nothing has come close to being this enjoyable with friends since.

So they're working on what looks like this game under the name Lost Skies, except they're planning to actually make a finished game this time and not just use it as a stepping stone to fund other games they want to develop (which is what I understand Worlds Adrift to have ultimately been/become). Development seems ongoing, game looks like a more polished version and will probably have more features I expect.
(Clarification of not recommending Worlds Adrift to others, you can't buy it)
I loved Worlds Adrift. It was a game slightly ahead of its' time. Players need to have a PvP flag and that would have improved the experience. Other than that it was fresh, exciting, and an adventure like no other. From someone like me who is afraid of heights, it gave me a lot of vertigo moments.
its September 2024. i really miss this game. i really wish this game can be revived as this is was and is very treasured by the community. o7
now i get to buy the new EA version they are making
