Experience the mysterious, timeless world of Toren, the first adventure game from Brazilian indie developer Swordtales. You are Moonchild, destined to climb the tower (known as Toren) on a hauntingly solitary journey to find your purpose. You must solve puzzles and face monsters as you struggle to climb to the top of this beautiful, yet treacherous environment, driven by the will to find your freedom.
A Journey of Learning & Fulfilment - As the story progresses your character will age from a mere infant to grown woman creating new mechanics and challenges for each learning experience and phase of her life. In addition, the Tree of Life within the tower grows as she does, providing access to new areas to explore and new items to find.
Poetry brought to Life – Toren features dark fantasy storytelling in a universe filled with symbolism. The mysterious, fantastical atmosphere is conveyed through an award-winning art design and original score. As your journey unfolds you will discover scrolls of poetry, which reveal the story and true origins behind Toren and aids the Moonchild in discovering her purpose.
Rich Puzzle Solving - Every stage of the game features new and progressively more deadly challenges for the player: solving environmental puzzles, how avoid and survive attacks from dangerous creatures, and eventually defeating the end boss.

i have played this game, its not bad, i like the story, the graphics, and everything in it. but like most others have said, the controls and the camera are clunky. if you can get past that, and the 2-2/30 hours that it will take for you to beat it. its worth a play through. check it out.
Interesting little game for people who appreciate artistic games. The mechanics aren't the best, nor are the controls, and the graphics have dated a bit, but I still enjoyed myself for the 2ish hours of gameplay
📖The story is...really hard to explain, and also delivered in often-random snippets. (Something about a soldier, mage, dragon, tower...Uhhh, no idea.)
🎥The camera is not full free-rotate, but rather fixed-zone-ish.
🎮The controls are forgiving in some areas (salt shapes) but broken in others (jumping and "combat").
🐲Sometimes the dragon would seem close enough to hit and then I'd whiff with the sword, sometimes I'd actually hit it, sometimes it would just eat me. There's no clear indicator on what is too close/far.
🗣️The trailer is in English, but the game dialogue...isn't(?).
📜The interface and menus need some tweaking.
📃The Chapter Select screen has NO Chapter numbers/names.
🤷♂️This game is almost 10 years old, and the website for the developers is long-gone, so I doubt there will ever be any patches for this game. Shame, bc I feel with just a handful of tweaks and fixes here and there, this would've been a great (albeit short and confusing) game.
❔Similar to Effie: what TF is up with foreign games that are developed for contests or gov't scholarships that get released on Steam, but never get any updates and their developers just vanish?
I wouldn't say it was 'hauntingly solitary', but it is passable fun
I'll start out by saying I had some trouble with starting up. It says it 'recommends a controller', so I thought my ps4 controller would be okay. Starting the game without checking, I found the camera view was skewed so bad that most of the time I couldn't even see the main character. I had to quit back out and go to the controller menu by right clicking on the game in my library. In the controller menu I selected "Gamepad with High Precision Camera/Aim" from the controller configurator. After restarting, the camera was fixed and I was able to move the camera around with the right control stick.
So I'm guessing any controller can work correctly, not just a steam controller. Which is good because no one can afford to keep buying controllers.
tldr; It's true there are issues with the camera but they can be fixed with a little experimenting.

Into the game proper, you'll discover it is short. There is no 'rich puzzle solving', or 'journey of learning & fulfilment', at least it didn't seem that way to me. I probably could have finished the game in under 3 hours but I had to go to chapter select as I missed a triangle, and an achievement, and had to idle AGES for the last few card drops.
It's always a little sad when a game's playtime is artificially extended by something as pathetic as card drops.
The weirdest part of the game is probably the short segment crawling around as a baby, but in addition to playing as a young girl, there are other versions of her where she is a little older, or a lot older. It doesn't really affect the gameplay though, as there isn't that much to do in the first place. There's jumping, attacking with a sword, and the action button - mostly for grabbing things or for clicking on interactions. There's a view button too but I thought it was mostly pointless.
In terms of story, I think it is beautiful, vague, and quite possibly over my head. I enjoyed the imagery, but having missed the first triangle on my original playthrough I did miss a bit of story until I chapter selected to find it... after I finished the game. The fact that there are missable story segments is poor game design - it could be that the story statues need a minor tutorial guidepost to show players what they need to be looking for.
In my own experience, it helps if I have the camera and controller working in the first place, and that I don't jump off the edge right from the outset.

I think if the game could have been a big bigger and beefier in terms of puzzles I might have enjoyed it more. As it is there really is only the dragon as a repeat foe for most of the game, and some mostly linear platforming. I would have liked the mythology of the tower Toren, the sun and moon and stars, and Moonchild to be a little clearer. As it is it probably needs a replay to fully understand the mythology behind it.
As a unique and interesting concept I recommend it, but in truth I am on the fence with this one.
A strange, simple story about restoring the old troubles in a world that can no longer handle the new apocalypse.
Annoying game breaking bug that prevents the character from jumping.
If it's been this long in this game, I doubt it'll ever get fixed.
