A regular deathmatch experience except theres a chance a table gets thrown at you. That's about the start and end of describing Half Life 2 deathmatch. Dont take it seriously.
This game is great. You can choose between regular deathmatch or Combine vs. Resistance teamplay, and the physics add a whole new way of playing traditional deathmatch games. Overall, this game offers fast multiplayer action that's fun to play with friends or bots.
dust like garrys mod but in suvivel mode
It's so genuinely forgettable that I somehow didn't even know that there was a Half Life 2 D.M. and got extremely concerned seeing it in my library.
CRITICALLY underrated, this is a gem hidden in plain sight that most Half-Life fans just have not seen for some reason.
this is really good, I wish that someone could bring it back alive, but for now, it's dead in the water, not to me though, get it, it'll be worth your money
Solid arena shooter
This brings some old memories
Still incredibly fun with lots of unique guns to troll people
Too bad I just cant make bot mods to work properly
If only they added an official bot support - this game would be golden
1/4 of a life in this arena. The good things is I found more players still playing this than the 6 guys from the 1st ones. So you can have full games to play!! Is HLD2 better than TF2? Hell no TF2 will be king of FPS from vaule. However HLD2 still a fun game to play. The Half Life franchise have wacky weapons and world that makes dog fights fun. Funny to use a gravity gun to smash a box on your enemies. Its worth a look if you like Half Life games. If they make a 3rd one would it be 1/8 Life? 7/10
Attempting to play with friends simply does not work. Either the connection keeps failing or it's so bugged it kicks everyone but the host out. If you want to play with friends, there's other online games that at least allow you to connect to a server together.
Very good. fuck all the sweaty guys tho lemme play with my radiators
I love the way nobody stops fighting, people big fan of gun war must play this game whenever they can lol.
absolute fucking choas, i had like 500 ping and it was still enjoyable.
combine when they enter a timeline where people is crazy
Good, fun, takes stress away.
This is the only game I'm aware of that allows you to kill others with toilets and continues to take itself seriously.
got fvcking annaihalated in 3 seconds of spawning in, love it.
Used to play this heaps. Not sure if i ever left a review? Thought I did. Been playing it on and off since early 2000s.
Stupidly fun. Ever want to experience ripping a toilet off a wall with a gravity weapon and then firing it through the torso of an enemy person?
This is for you. Also there's heaps of cool guns, bombs, rocket launchers, etc. It's pretty fucking awesome.
Good game but please mind, 90% of players are bots.
Bots is a banned word in "popular" servers. (bot servers)
i was playing with my dad and sister we had fun playing and killing each other but my honest review 5 stars this will be a fun game to play withg your family
game is fun. the community is strong. the goofy servers are the best. a good break from the f2p competitive fps genre.
Compared to the previous part, there are many more possibilities and this is very cool, but people accustomed to the dynamics and gameplay of the first part will find it difficult to get used to it. The game itself is fire!
In their recent update (which was solely made just to say they did a thing for the anniversary), Valve compiled the Linux native build *WITHOUT* including the binary that is required to start the game (hl2_linux64), and since their anti-cheat (VAC) prohibits Proton usage, Linux gamers are now left not being able to play Half-Life 2: Deathmatch any longer.
Just a month ago, the game ran flawlessly on the Linux native build. Without VAC, Proton would happily run the Windows build under Linux with a smooth 300 FPS, but Proton users get kicked as soon as they attempt to join a server.
Additionally, the update broke the sound system for all users which as resulted in issues such as pickup sounds getting cut off.
Basically my childhood favorite game got destroyed by a momentary event.
HL2:DM has an insanely deep gameplay loop lying under its surface, with its weird focus on physics objects allowing for all sorts of wacky high skill plays and strategies. but you're not gonna see any of that; when *you* play HL2:DM all you're gonna see is a dozen idiots mindlessly running around and blasting each other over and over. it lacks HL1's awesome arsenal and map pool, there's nothing too interesting about HL2's basic bog standard obligatory FPS arsenal. still though; as a free tie-in with HL2 its good fun for a while. unlike most other arena shooters, there are still dozens of people playing at any time of day trying it out as a freebie from the orange box. so feel free to hop in and frag for a bit without worrying about getting totally stomped.
Would not recommend if you use Linux. Last update broke Linux support for all users, you can either use Proton to play the new version and get blocked by VAC or use the beta for the last version and only play on empty servers because the servers aren't compatible between versions.
this might be the most fun deathmatch game ever even though it's 20 years old
This is fun! It's not overly complicated but Half Life 2's mechanics translate surprisingly well to a multiplayer format.
Probably very fun. from what I played on the old version, the gravity gun is insanely fun to play with.
I can't tell if the new version is any good, it's been broken for the last 10 days on linux and by proxy, the steam deck, a valve made product.
The game is very very nice. It's simple you shoot others. :)
It is alright, nothing special. Some new official maps would be cool. Just beware that the community servers are full of toxic russians with antisocial personality disorder.
Honestly HL1's multiplayer mode is more fun for me personally but this isn't bad either
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch

It really bothers me that the game is unlisted from the steam store, because its nowhere to be found in Half Life 2 (unlike episodes 1 and 2 that were unlisted but merged with the original half life 2). I guess adding ep. 1 and 2 to the original game was a good idea, but why the hell would you unlist a game RELATED to half life 2 (ON ITS ANNIVERSARY) and just ignore it. i hope it gets added to half life 2 soon. and the game itself (deathmatch) is pretty nice. It lacks achievements though, and it gets really repetetive after a while. Still gonna reccomend it, because its still a great game after 20 years.
if you are reading the reviews to get the game
1: why
2: the servers are dead lmfaoo
3: its a good game, only when there are servers with more than 3 people on it :P
Bhopping isnt impossible in this game. ttk could be shorter but it is a fun time over all! FULLYMODDELEDVAGINALCAVITY/10
I think Volvo updated the net code on dis bitch so its actually fun now. Lots of cool tech and movement stuff.
"Half-Life 2: Deathmatch" offers a fast-paced and competitive multiplayer experience set in the iconic Half-Life universe.
The game's simple yet effective gameplay loop encourages players to constantly improve their skills and outsmart their opponents.
I suck, but the Gravity Gun makes me do alright sometimes.
10/10
I would describe this game in one sentence:
"If John Wick game was made on Source engine."
Similar energy to HL1 Deathmatch, but not as movement-focused. There are a lot of fun interactions to have with the gravity gun. Super fun arena combat!
I could play this for countless hours and not get bored. Very good
every servers says different class tables everytime i try to join a server
Various new bugs +Suggestions
YOU STILL CANNOT CHANGE TEAMS/PLAYERMODEL
Movement feels jank with high latency
Network settings values are really outdated
Gravity Gun pulling and all healing/suit recharge sounds are missing
Weapon switching HUD sound is missing
Toilet area in dm_runoff is too dark now
Weapons are still missing the HL2 style weapon sway and draw sounds (cl_wpn_sway_scale requires cheats for some reason)
Weapon alternative attack is missing the "ALT" text from base HL2
Add steam avatars to the scoreboard
^^PLEASE FIX THESE VALVE^^
It would be AMAZING if there was a new map or at least updated classic ones
...On that note, adding new viewmodel hands for Combine and Rebel teams would be awesome!
I also like the idea of "voice commands" with a couple of Rebel and Combine voices, can't be too difficult to implement. These would make the game feel better!
HL1 anniversary got 3 brand new maps with a bunch of pre-release content in game
while this game got essentially nothing + broke it further
It's old as hell, Half Life 2's weapons do not work well in a PVP game and the time to kill is way too high but maaaaan, this is some stupid fun.
It gives a me a nice feeling reminding me of old school Steam times around 2008-2009 when PVP games were more simple and playing janky Source mods.
You can kill people with a toilet.
trash ttk & movement, nerfed headshots, no tau, no glu
the only thing that's interesting is the physics
in everything else hl1dm is much better & more fun
Surprisingly still exciting despite being over 20 years old and having had no significant updates since release. Genuinely the peak of the deathmatch genre.
I don't really understand why they unlisted this for Half-Life 2's 20th. I almost wondered if the actual Half-Life 2 client would've received deathmatch or multiplayer integration, but at a glance it seems like that isn't the case.
I personally still think this is worth playing today. Finding matches in older arena shooter games might sometimes require some coordination outside of the server browser itself but if you're the type to go looking for that then I would recommend this.
Edit: Some of these 20th anniversary bug fixes don't seem to actually have been implemented. Supposedly this also broke the game on linux? I hope this is temporary.
dead game or not dead. but this game is 10/10
I played a little , fun as gaben says.
playing with people that are nearly as old as my dad is cool i guess!
One of the best games to play with friends. The game still has its gold side and also it is very fun.
the best part of hl2 with actual good ai but its not ai because this is multiplayer only, kind of wish this was part of hl2 out of box and you didn't have to download seperately.
Fun if you've never played, but after a while it gets quite boring, being killed every like 5 minutes or less and not keeping your weapons. But if you've never played a deathmatch style game before, play this one.
