- a platform gun, which shoots platforms, of course on which we can jump,
- a freeze gun which, of course, freezes our enemies.
Game Features:
- Seven worlds, each with 3 levels and a boss to fight (from fourth stage each level is divided on two parts).
- Each stage contains its own graphics style.
- Seven kinds of weapons, for example a platform gun which shoots platforms that you cam jump on.
- Mini quests.
- Funny cutscenes and other stuff.
- Awesome chiptune soundtrack made by Jakim.
- ACHIEVEMENTS. YAY.
- WE WILL PLAY ON YOUR NOSTALGY FEELINGS, BRO.
- Challenging. Really.

frame rate problems, then when i whent to try and change the setting in the menu it crashed trying to exit the game and then it kept crashing every time i tried to re open it.
eh, its okay
i didnt like it im sorry not worth it :(
it isn't anything to write home about but if you want a few hours of mind numbing almost boring fun, with some "humour" on top, then this might be your game
honestly it is a good game but it relies on cheap tricks and cheap humour to try and make the game "hard" and "funny"
so, play it if you like taking leaps of faith and then having the game go "hahaha, isn't this fun and/or difficult?" when the only route you can take forces you into an acid pit
As a fan of retro platformers, I thought I was going to like this game, but I find myself disappointed, instead.
The playing area of the screen is very small, making it extremely difficult, even with the full-screen option enabled, to see things as clearly as is necessary. The cutesy pixel-graphics combined with the small "playing field" make it very difficult to see.
Also, I tend to prefer it when there is not a tutorial, unless game mechanics are complex enough to warrant a tutorial, so the developers including the text "tutorial" with button instructions seems like an odd and unnecessary choice.
Additionally, the controls are not what I would consider intuitive or smooth. I had difficulty moving and jumping at the same time on many occasions. Jumping height and distance were not consistent, and the button layout for the controller is awkward.
I'd consider giving this game another try if some of these issues are resolved.
An enjoyable platformer, many of the negative reviews adress wierd controls and lack of controller support. Both of these issues appear to have been fixed as you can now change the bindings on all controls and I was able to play with a wired 360 controller.
Good:
-Music is fitting and enjoyable, goes very well with the game.
-Art looks nice and there is a good deal of variety from world to world
-Gameplay offers a good deal of challenge that gets more difficult as the game progresses, especially with the boss fights.
-Unlimited continues, when you get a game over on a boss, you don't have to go back to the begging of the world, you start back at the beginning of the fight
-Enemies and hazards vary enough to not become boring, the enemies have different attacks and mechanics, not just different appearances. The hazards have set mechanics or timed patterns that make them easier to avoid once you learn them.
Bad:
-Health system, this contributes a good deal to the difficulty of the game. The coins you collect give you lives back when you get 100, but there is no way to get health back during a level other than dying. Your health is replenished once you beat the level though.
-English translations, the game was localized from Polish and many of the translations are very (possibly intentionally) goofy. The story itself is pretty light so this is very likely, but it does take you out of the game a bit, certainly makes you laugh.
Overall I would reccomend the game, It will only take 4-5 hours to beat the game depending on how proficient you are at platformers, but there are hidden collectibles and achievements that add a bit of replayability if you're into that.
At 10$, it is a very good difficult platformer for people that enjoy genre. On sale, the game is certainly worth picking up for someone who has a passing interest in a short, fun game.
This is an extremely fun and challengin game, but i have only one problem. I don't have a down key due to shenanigans on my keyboard, and even though i had configured my movement keys to a standard WASD skematic, the S key refuses to register as my down movement key when i travers the ladders. That is my only gripe, the lack of quality for configuraton realiability.
No no no no. Stay away from this game. Crappy controls and even when I ended the game you can still hear it playing. Horrible.
oh no you have to restart over when you die. lol SNES , NES, SEGA games are alot harder than this and use the same mechanic. this game has some great level design. just put the game on easy if you have a hard time. great game. also dont get volgar the viking if you dont like this game that game is a game that more people should be upset about rather than this game.
Whoever made this needs a lesson on game design, level design, and balancing. The second boss of the game takes around 40 hits and you can only hit him once or twice in half a second intervals. This is worse than amateur in terms of those aspects.
I bought this game today and I was playing it for 30 minutes, I'm enjoying everything:
Gameplay and performance: 8/10, very fast movement response, the only bad thing is:
I notice a little bit lag/freezing every few seconds during the gameplay, It makes me fall from moving platforms and is very annoying. :-(. Hope you can fix this.
(anyone has the same problem?)
Graphics and interface: 8/10, beautiful pixelated style, colorful environment. The enemies and the player are very cute too. (The game needs a better screen resolution options because when you select the full screen option the game gets a little bit blured).
Level design: 10/10, very good. well designed.
Music: 10/10, I love chiptune music and I can said that the music of Top Hat is very good.
In general, the game need some improvement but if you like pixelated platform retro games you must buy this game, you will enjoy it.
General: 9/10
Pd: The ingame steam interface (shift+tab) is in bad position in any screen resolution.
Boring game, crappy mechanics, repetetive combat and weapons, nothing interesting.
Jesli chcesz sprobowac swoich sil w dobrej grze zrecznosciowej wymagajacej myslenia i refleksu dobrze trafiles wybierajac Top Hat. Gra sprawia z kazdym krokiem do przodu coraz wiecej satysfakcji. Rozmaite pułapki i mozliwosc rozszerzania ekwipunku dodaja smaczku rozgrywce. Plusem są takze ukryte bonusy ktore mozna spotkac na swojej drodze. Gorąco polecam.
First Try on Top Hat

Before recording and writing this review, I have played the game until Level 3-3 on normal mode, which took me about 30 minutes.
First off, the options menu is relatively simplistic. You have 3 seperate sliders for audio options. Apart from that you can adjust the screen size(which I would not consider resolution options). Last, but by no means least, you can rebind the controls for keyboard and controller.
Going into the game, the first thing I've noticed is that the dialogue is well translated and the jokes came across fairly well. The music is also quite good, the only minor complaint I have is that the looping of the music is a bit clunky.
Gameplaywise I have to say that the gunplay(if can call it that way) and the platforming feel nice.
The enemy variety and enemy design is simplistic, but it does the job. The bosses so far feel relatively underwhelming(the mechanic of the first one is easy to dodge, the second one is quite tedious to fight), but it might change later on.
One thing I'd like to add before coming to the conclusion is that one of the "selling ponits" of the game is "Challenging. Really". So far I have to say, the game is not that challenging. It is more the case that the game is unforgivable in terms of mistakes. Since there are no savegame slots, you will only have one savegame. Apart from your progress your current lifecount is saved as well, which can end in a mess when you are only on one life bevore hitting a checkpoint. I can imagine that it is getting frustrating when you hit harder levels(or even bossfights) with only one life left.
The question I suppose is: Is the game difficult, because it's genuinely difficult, or is it because of design decisions in terms of savepoints, etc? And in the case of top hat, I say, it is "difficult" for the wrong reasons.
With that out of the way we come to the tl:dr: Is the game worth it?
It is not a bad game that is for sure, but as I've stated above, I went about 1/3 through the game within 30 minutes, so you can say that your average playthrough will take you somewhat around 2 hours. And apart from Achievments and a higher difficulty levels there is not much replayability available.
With that said, I'd say it's a definite buy at a sale, but if you are desperate for a nice action plattformer, you might consider buying this game even on full price.
