Apparently this is a remix of 2? I didn't really see the differences, besides the mummy dogs. Still a fun game tho
same i love metal slug old kid sweet play PS1 and arcade
nostalgic 4.5/5
Nice
More often than not, game sequels tend to be straight upgrades. Metal Slug X follows this trend - in terms of controls and the things you're doing, Metal Slug X is identical to the first – that means a lot of shooting, a lot of different vehicles, and many one-hit kills. This game shines in one key area which ends up making it a lot more fun than the first – variety.
One world will see you turning into a mummy as you navigate a desert, the next will have you climbing across train cars that are being destroyed by helicopters and the like. Each second you're constantly guessing what will happen next as the game keeps trying to one up itself with new ideas. Some of the ideas are changes to the original Metal Slug 2, such as the time of day changing or enemy placement, while other things are more noticeable.
For instance, in one stage of the original, you can gorge on food so much your character gains weight and becomes less manoeuvrable. It's a fun moment, but in Metal Slug X, it can happen in almost every stage, and doing so actually changes how your gun fires, no matter what variant, so there's actually a trade-off to the transformation now.
One of the things that thankfully have not been touched are the bosses, which are by far my favourite part of the game. The increased enemy variety leads to much more creatively designed fights – and a lot of them are a big enough target that the focus is less on finely aiming shots and moreso dodging the hailstorm of bullets coming your way, making it feel incredible to ace them.
Metal Slug X feels like an action movie turned arcade game – and I had a blast with it. You really can't go wrong with it.

How 2 play with ur frens (WORKING 2069):
- do NOT use Steam's built in invite cause it will crash Player 2's game
- Have the host make a lobby
- Find it in the server list
- Join
- DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, TOUCH THE KEYBOARD AS THE HOST. LET PLAYER 2 PICK THEIR CHARACTER FIRST. OTHERWISE IT WILL CRASH PLAYER 2'S GAME.
With that out of the way, this is unaceptable and the constant freezes kinda suck the fun out of this classic.
Its fine for what it is, it's aged poorly frankly, i played these MS games alot with a friend at his house as a kid. The port is decent, although finding the right aspect ratio and resolution is a big pain in the butt, plus it screws up the window frames for my other apps i have running when i exit.
No big deal, functional and well made, an old classic. Play it if you're bored of non-violent platformers, the narrator who yells out the weapons you use remains some of the best VA work ever.
It's Metal Slug 2, but better.
Love this game :)
Played this game with my best friend. Shit is dope as fuck. As are all the other Metal Slugs! Huge fan, I be very nostalgic, so yeah play this bullet hell/run n gun master piece! It's just as good if not better than Contra!
Pro-globalism themes
That's the best Arcade game ever. Epic!

Plz port metal slug 4, 5 and 6 with steam multiplayer plz
I enjoyed this game same as Metal Slug 2, many thanks for bringing to PC.
This game is exactly what it looks at exactly the right price. Perfect execution, and perfect price point. 10/10
This was the easiest Metal Slug I’ve ever completed
Highly Recommended. 10/10*
The art style is amazing, gorgeous pixel art, awesome character design, the music is fantastic, the controls and game mechanics are simple but top notch, the animations are incredible even for random npcs, lot of easter eggs, lot of hidden stuff. I thogh that this was the same as metal slug 1 but better, but no, accordingly to wikipedia its metal slug 2 but using metal slug 3 engine. Still, for me, this has to be the best metal slug of all. Has easy to get achievements, can be completed in a few hours in 1 or 2 runs(depends of your skills), and also has steam cards.
good game and nostalgic brings back great memories of my old ps2 just wished it was played with 4 or more players so i can play with my family member
what a fun game
Never played it, im a COMANDO 2 guy, girlfriend has nostalgia soo thas gud
Getting 100% is ez
If you want the best Metal Slug X experience then use MAME 100% because you'll experience some frame drops with this port. Plus the main menu just feels cheaply tacked on together like they didn't care (which they probably didn't). But If you don't care for that then this is a solid port I would say to play metal slug X on.
Absolute masterpiece. I still cry with the last scene.
FPS drops like hell tho, play it somewhere else if you can.
Oldie but goodie X
Classic!
Terrible Port. FPS Tanks to low 10-5 fps at some points.
very nice game already played metal slug 3 also :D
A classic. If you grew up in the good era, you know it's good. Too bad this is the only Metal Slug that has online coop on Steam.
Better than the 1st in every way
Some of the best pixel art ever created.
Great fun.
Fio is best girl.
i love this game
But PLEASE... play it on MAME it's just much better
Terrible audio and constant fps drops even NOTABLE input lag
Don't spend money on this sh*t*y port unless you want to get all the achievements
Its Still Metal Slug
Fio my beloved!💜
not the best port in the world, but a more than decent way to experience my favorite run n gun
I want to relive those moments. But not like this.
Pros, Cons, Issues, Analysis and Verdict further down.
Some were getting ready to dive into the pool. Others were playing cards under the canopy of secular oak trees. There was always someone ordering fried fish, and you could catch its aroma wafting from the little restaurant on the side. But people like me stayed glued to the screens under the veranda, in a modest open-air arcade room. Amid the innocent laughter and the rhythmic clatter of foosball, there was the constant barrage of gunfire, punctuated by a booming voice that simply declared...

🟩 Pros
- The undisputed champion of run 'n' gun titles, the game that put its signature on Contra's tombstone, has finally landed on Steam. Relive the explosive frenzy you cherished back in the day, or, if you're new, experience the arcade revolution right at your fingertips.
- Stunning, near-unrivaled pixel art, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and animation. Back when colors popped and developers weren't afraid of using saturation, we had these little games offering big experiences, ones that did the best job at transporting players inside their vibrant and soulful worlds.
- The music, like the graphics and gameplay, truly benefitted from the limitations of the era. When creative minds are faced with boundaries, they often work hard to push those limits and still deliver something extraordinary. With only a handful of audio channels and single-digit bits at their disposal, composers managed to create unforgettable tracks nonetheless. That's because, back then, there were no quick fixes or shortcuts. You had to know your craft and there was no way around that. That was the case and it shows on Metal Slug's OST, which will forever be remembered for being packed with bangers.
- New features like Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Online/Offline Multiplayer, Leaderboards, all add replayability, breathing fresh life into a classic experience.

🟥 Cons
[*] This port however, is simply atrocious. It’s as if someone took the backside of a macaque, slammed it onto a keyboard, and there you have it: an official port that is worse than any unofficial one. Lag spikes plague the game at any resolution, and severe input delay ruins the flow of gameplay. Now; I'm not the type of guy who throws a tantrum whenever his beloved 120 FPS, which he can't even perceive, takes a nosedive and verges on the double digit. I'm not that obsessed that, in my subconscious mind, I count the fractions of a second between me pushing a button, and a bunch of pixels on the screen changing color. However, it is precisely because I'm not that kind of guy that I can feel something really wrong with this sad excuse at emulation; something so poorly thought and executed, that even I am left aghast with it. And that's the sole, yet gigantic reason why I cannot recommend a staple of my childhood.

- Severe lag spikes and input lag experienced by many players, me included.
- Music isn't as crispy as I remember it; probably one of the many victims of poor emulation.
- The leaderboard is infested with cheaters, so maybe compete against your friends, not globally.

- Playing at 800x600 resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio, may fix some of the lag (and for the love of god, disable the default video filter while you're at it. That thing will smear the pixels and turn everything into a smudge of vomit).
- If that doesn't work, you could try right-clicking the game in your library, select "browse local files", then right-click the .exe. Go into properties, then the compatibility tab. Here, "change high DPI settings". Put a checkmark on "override high DPI scaling behavior".

💭 Final Considerations
The trilogy bundle, on discount, will cost roughly three bucks. Considering that, back in the day, it would be the equivalent of three to six "continues" (each continue consisting of three lives), it is still worth considering. However, you will most likely need to turn a blind eye to Dotemu's glaring incompetence; which is unfortunate, because I usually admire this studio.
📝Verdict
You want virtually the same accuracy as it was back then, meaning almost identical feeling of gameplay, graphics, and music? Go with MAME. Do you want to play with your friends or challenge yourself with achievements? By all means, buy this. You may be one of the lucky few who can't see the problem with this eyesore.

Kind of feels like a modded version of Metal Slug 2. I'm not sure which version I prefer. Still recommended, but would've been nice if they were in one package.
This game shares many of the same issues found in Metal Slug and Metal Slug 3, particularly with its poorly designed UI and frequent FPS drops. Although the PC version feels like a rushed port and the UI looks cheap, the nostalgic value of the game is still undeniable and keeps me leaning toward a positive review. It’s a bittersweet experience: the nostalgia is there, but the performance of the ported version leaves much to be desired.
Que buen run and gun, metal slug siempre va a tener un lugar en mi corazón.
Super recomendado.
METAL SLUG X
pros:
//fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on
//good amount of action and special effects
cons:
//a lot of difficult battles/boss battles
//a lot of overpowered enemies
//a lot of enemies have unfair attacks that cannot be evaded
//some difficult platforming
//diagonal shooting doesn't seem to work
//could use more powerups
//too many enemies constantly spawn
//some enemies have too many hit points
//good game
Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $0.99 Or Less During Sale
If I had known that Metal Slug X was the exact same game as MS2, I wouldn't have bought it. I just wish the description of the game on Steam had mentioned that. If you've beat MS2, you don't need this game. Don't get me wrong, MS2/MSX is an awesome game, but I don't think that the couple extra enemies and weapons justify owning the game twice. Oh, well!
Nostalgia the game
purchased a pirated copy 20 years ago, here to pay now
I'd say it's a better version of METAL SLUG 2 in-term of weapon varieties and enemies, but the slow down problem is pretty bad in this one.
If you have the 2nd one get this one too. On the surface it may seem like the same game (Which it is), but with the weapons and added enemies in some areas made it really fun to play through it.
