Fractured Soul takes the classic platformers of the 80s and doubles the action! Your unique ability to shift between two parallel dimensions allows you to weave through enemy fire, catch opponents by surprise, and leap over impossibly wide gaps by using platforms in both realities.
A winner of the PAX Indie Showcase in 2013, an Honorable Mention in GDC Play’s Best In Show in 2013, and a two time finalist in Game Connection’s Selected Projects, Fractured Soul has won the hearts of critics the world over with no less than 50 reviews scoring the game 80% or better.
- Pulse-pounding gameplay inspired by classic platformers of the 80s.
- Playing in two realities at once literally adds a new dimension to the platforming genre.
- Fire, water, wind, and anti-gravity each bring their own twist to one of the two dimensions.
- Hardcore bonus challenge levels are unlocked through 5 star performances in the main game.
- Two can play this game on the same PC - you and your friend can control the character in one dimension each!
- Over 100 achievements to put your platforming skills to the test.
- Online leaderboards to see how you stack up against your friends and the world.

Very fun action platformer that unfortunately goes under the radar nowadays given its small status and port from its original handheld. I'm terrible at this game and have very little interest in speed-running at all, but it's a lot of fun and has plenty of replay value. Definitely a game worth giving a go, and certainly one that I'll be making returns to every now and then.
it was nice to play this game again on pc
i just wished that more people knew about it
Though it is a relatively short game, it is very memorable.
I don't play it often, but when I do, it is always a great experience.
The combination of the music, sound effects, and unique gameplay all make for a very nostalgic experience.
I just wish it would work properly with controller bindings, and that there was an easy way to find the music online.
A terrible port which has simply not been optimized properly to work with the XBox 360 controller. Rebinding keys does not work; navigating menus is a nightmare; working out what button does what is an exercise in pure frustration. This game will waste your time and money.
Fractured Soul is a pretty great Mega Man like shooter with the interesting concept of transferring through dimensions on the fly to get past the stages. I used to play this all the time on the 3DS. But after playing both versions, I gotta say that the hardcore mode on the PC version changed quite a bit of the content the original 3DS game had to make it easier like enemy placements, quantity of lasers, and the recovery time of the disappearing platforms being shorter. But at the same time, you get to see farther on the PC and the game runs at 60fps compared to the 3DS's 30fps cap. But this game is still good and I recommend playing it
I give this game a 10/10
I definitely recommend this game! It has been one of my favorite games and platformers of all time. The speedrunning aspect is amazing and gives you a reason to truly master the game. Anyone who is a fan of platformers and challenges will love it. It does a good job with the learning curve on introducing you to the switching mechanic, but it can be difficult to master. At its heart it is a skilled puzzle game through learning the best paths and strategies to speedrun a level--and has a suprising level of depth. Between the steam version and the 3ds version I've put over 100 hours into the game and only stopped because I was at the top of the leaderboards for most levels (on steam).
I've gotten to talk to the devs some and they are really cool people who put a lot of passion into their game and it shows. They respond to their customers needs and feedback which goes a long way in my book.
Also, I will give a cookie to anyone who can beat all my times. Feel free ask me for help or strategies to get past a level if you need it. I want really want someone to beat my times to give me an excuse to play again :D
One last thing, do yourself a favor and play on hardcore. That is where the game really shines. The game was originally designed and balanced for hardcore and it feels more "right". The increased health and jump height on normal is fun, but hardcore is where the competition and challenge is.
I'm not sure how it plays solo, but in the coop, it's a blast. First few levels are pretty basic, but then you have to start trying to read each other thoughts to do everything right. And you better do it right.
Also, checkpoints are usually well located, so the game will not send you to frustration even though the difficult can sometimes be pretty high.
A decent shooter platformer that comes with the added ability to shift dimentions. It is worth getting on sale.
Pros:
- Unlike in stonerid, this game manages to make the dimention ability work well in practice as well as gently teaching you about it and letting you get used to it.
- To keep things interesting it adds a new element each level, such as one dimention being flodded in water or a wall of death chasing after you.
- customisable controls
- Pretty good 2.5D graphics
Cons:
- the sound effects of the player (not including guns) and for the baddies (not including explosives) are terrible
- The music is incredibly bland, boring, and uninspiring.
-Tthe story is told in the least engaging way possible with a small wall of text between each level.
- All of the above make it impossible to immerse yourself into the game and you'll find yourself playing this sparingly when you're bored (like you would play candy crush for example) rather than through one big passionate run.
- No personality in this game whatsoever, when you finish it you actually feel happy to have finished it. That's not a good sign.
The core gamplay is built around platforming in levels that are split between 2 screens. (Note: This game was originally released for the 3DS but I never played the game on a 3DS) As you progress and get a better grasp of the game mechanics, you can start to complete levels in more creative ways by making use of the split screen. This core gameplay is very solid and the game is very enjoyable especially if you're the type which enjoys speedrunning and constantly replaying levels in search of a faster route. The replayability also comes in the form of getting Five Stars ranking and achievements to unlock on every level.
Some points to note:
- You can change the key bindings.
- The ONLY video option you get is Anti-Aliasing of up to 8x.
- The sound effects are very nicely done but the music is on the flat side in my opinion. The music doesn't distract you from the gameplay but it doesn't add to it either. (That song you hear in the trailer, Planet by Bitrok is NOT the in-game music)
Edit: It's really nice to see that developers actually take their customers' complaints seriously. That in itself should get this game a thumbs up. They promptly fixed the major issue, and the game is now very much playable and even enjoyable. Nice job, Engame.
This game looked so cool in the trailer. I was all set to like it. I'm a huge Megaman fan and this looked like something I could easily get into. Nope. The biggest issue is the controls. They make absolutely no sense. I'm using an Xbox 360 controller. The default layout is garbage, but you really can't improve on it much since you can't map the A button for some reason. The next big problem is the graphics. The only thing you can change in the settings is anti-aliasing. As someone who's using 2 GTX 980s, this is very disappointing as the game looked very graphically impressive in the trailer. I feel that was very misleading. The music in the game is repetative and unimaginative. Overall, a huge waste of $7ish. I really wish Steam did refunds because I'd be all over that. Do yourself a huge favor and avoid this game like the plague. Terrible.
A pure gaming experience! Fast input response with smooth animation.
The gameplay is mind bending, it creates a mountain of a challenge, that would exclude many people from completing the game until they developed the required skills. The difficulty reminds me of old skool arcade games, a period where gaming was new and people had to learn to think in a game way instead of just smash smash smash. Although there is light hand holding, the game still bends the mind.
The graphics look low poly and with little visuals effects. Considering the game was ported from the 3DS this isn't a surprise.
Probably not everyone's cup of tea, considering the level of attention and wit required. But still, this is a diamond in the rough.
