Inspired by classic platformers, Adventures of Pip basks in a world where players can defeat a huge 32-bit boss as a single pixel or even as an 8-bit character.
With three different forms, evolve and devolve Pip to solve puzzles and defeat enemies; each with their own weakness and strength that must be unraveled throughout the campaign.
STORY
The Bit Stream is the life force that fuels Pixel Kingdom. The One who taps its power can forge the Kingdom's destiny.
Pip is only one pixel in a world full of 32-bit characters, yet he is the only one brave enough to face the Queen DeRezzia and rescue the kidnapped princess.
Moved by his plight, the ghost knight, Sir Elwyn, bestowed upon Pip the power to harness the Bit Stream. With the ability to absorb his enemy’s pixels, Pip can transform into a hi-fidelity hero! But be aware! With each evolution not only will you gain skills but some will be lost.

Classic platform with retro vibes
Adventures of Pip is a little basic in every way and the movement feels frustratingly floaty at times, but the artwork is nice and it isn't especially difficult. I do think it should be listed as more of a puzzle platformer though, as the main optional goal of the game is finding and rescuing all the villagers; this often requires a lot of wall hugging to find them all, and the level layout doesn't always seem intuitive as a result. There is in-game currency dropped by chests and monsters that you can trade for power ups, but by the second half of the game you might have already bought anything worth having, so there isn't much of a point to visiting the home town anymore. Most of the levels in each zone share the same background music, which loops endlessly instead of breaking with ambient noise. The soundtrack is well composed and energetic, at least. Each zone also feels like one long level broken into smaller chunks, rather than distinct variations of the general zone theme. The bosses are your typical three-hits-and-done affair (except for one boss), but they are generally competently designed and visually appealing. I don't want to be too hard on this game because it's an indie title that's almost a decade old, but I think if the developer remade the game with more complex and differing levels, smoother game play mechanics and just a more polished presentation, it would be worth a revisit. As is, you could do worse in 2024, & I would give this game one solid thumb up for fans of the genre.
Adventures of Pip is a 2D-platformer that harkens back to classic 90’s video games and literally incorporates the nature of sprite work into its design. Pip begins as a 1-bit character and gains abilities to evolve into 8-bit and 16-bit versions. Each of these forms possess unique abilities and much of the level design is built around evolving and devolving to overcome obstacles. Optional upgrades are purchasable at the town and help make the adventure easier. The game itself is satisfying to play and the presentation of the world, music, and story are good but don’t necessarily excel. One of the greater perks is that the game is short and easy to 100% complete, even on a first playthrough. As for cons, platforming can feel “janky” on occasion, but with checkpoints and unlimited lives this doesn’t pose a huge detriment. The primary criticism I have is that the evolution/devolution of sprites is limited to Pip during gameplay. I do think this concept has great potential, but limiting this to the main character feels unambitious. Nonetheless I enjoyed my time with Adventures of Pip and I encourage people to give this bite-sized platformer a play!

I beat a world and a half before stopping, it's boring. The levels aren't challenging or interesting, and they also look samey and boring, the main evolving/devolving gimmick sounds interesting but it gets old quick, devolving freezes the screen a few seconds so you can "confirm" you want to do it so you don't mess up while plataforming but the constant mini freezes annoyed me a lot.
It's a competent game, there's nothing really wrong with it, i just think it's boring. It might be a good game for more casual plataformer fans but for veterans i don't think it's worth it.
