It's the third installment of the Momodora series, although playing the previous titles is not necessary to enjoy the game!
The game takes a departure from the style of Momodora II and focuses more on linear level design, similar to the first title in the series.
It follows a simple story revolving around sudden weird apparitions at the village of KoHo.
The people of the village send two priestesses, Momo and Dora, to investigate the matter.
Features:
-6 regular stages, plus one secret stage!
-Items that allow you to customize your way of playing
-Difficulty selection
-Several secrets, and more!!

Straightforward, cute, fun, simple but very effective spritework and level design, beautiful soundtrack. What's not to like? :3

Awesome 2D platformer game. Pretty quick to play through, my first run on normal as Momo took about an hour and a half. Then I did two more full runs on Dora to round out all the achievements (doesn't really seem to be much of a difference playing as either Momo or Dora). Little bit of jank on the controls (I only used a controller) you have to use ESC and F1 to actually back out of the game (or when you die), but everything else can be done on the controller. Pretty easy to get all the achievements (hardest one was completing the game within 25 minutes but it wasn't too bad) & there is a steam guide to help which is nice. OST also slaps. Overall would recommend and I mean for 2 bucks you kinda can't argue against it. Would also recommend the other Momodora games

Extremely fun game that you can run from start to finish in less than half an hour. I recommend playing on the hard difficulty since it makes the game much more challenging and rewarding when you figure out the best paths through each zone. Completing a zone in an uninterrupted flow and then destroying the boss is an extremely rewarding experience and after a while you just run the whole game for fun.
it's a pity that the first two are not on steam, anyway this was the first one I played and since I liked it I will play the first two as well, not a long game but for the price you pay it's a good game with good replayability
This game is only 2$, if it looks fun to you, just buy it.
It has an easy set of achievements too, so if you like to 100% the games you play as well, you'll get all of them within 3-4 hours or so.
controls are annoyingly configured
A sweet little 2D action title. Do note that it is really short and simple, only 1-2 hours to clear and not much longer to get all achievements, but what’s there is a nice indie exercise in old-school game design. Features a number of boss fights, and while all their patterns are extremely basic, there’s something meditative about roflstomping them with a flurry of attacks (your standard combo hits like a hurricane here). Also a surprisingly awesome OST by Elektrobear.
If you end up enjoying this, Momodora 2 (which is free) is also worth checking out for similar reasons, but probably not Momodora 1, since it’s very rough both quality- and difficulty-wise.
Rough but cute and fun
I don’t know why this is marked incompatible with the steam deck. I played the entire game on the original steam deck model using the controls layout that valve automatically picked to be best compatible.
I went into the settings and set the options to fullscreen. According to comments within discussion threads, this is something that you have to do to prevent the game from running at half its speed. The game still had slow down very occasionally, but only when they were a lot of enemies on the screen or when I was in specific parts of specific rooms.
I do not feel that hampered my experience at all, and I would easily recommend the game to anyone that enjoys the series or to any newcomers looking for a platformer they can beat within a day.
1st Playthrough Momo on Hard: 01:45:50; 87.50% Completion
2nd Playthrough Dora on Medium: 00:46:45; 87.50% Completion
3rd Playthrough Dora on Medium NG+ (because the Game said things would be slightly different...they weren't except that I kept all the money and items I found): 01:29:46; 87.50% Completion
4th Playthrough Dora on NG++(?) because I wanted to do a under 25 mins. Speedrun: 01:49:26; 87.50% Completion (apparently the time doesn't start anew)
5th Playthrough Momo on Medium: 00:15:42; 87.50% Completion, easy Speedrun but I also wanted to combine the Achievement of not killing any standard enemies, but I killed one at the Ladybug Boss.
6th Playthrough Momo on Medium: I quit after again I killed trash mobs at the Ladybug Boss.
Yeah. I know there is a Secret Boss. Didn't care to look it up. Probably had to Teleport back to another location. Maybe I'll try one more time.
So, what's there to say? Momodora I and II: Never played them. Maybe some day. Wish they were on Steam but I think you can download them for free if I'm not mistaken.
Momodora III: I don't know why, I thought this would be a Metroidvania. It wasn't. It is basically a very short and very tight 2D Platformer. But I have to say I kind of enjoyed it. Saw only one Ending, was a bit frustrated because of the whole "not killing any enemies" thing but I went back for completion a few times.
Not many Games can say that for me.
Story is stupid, didn't care for it. But tight Gameplay and a bit of replayability, this is worth it.
Now on to the other Momodora Games (Reverie under the Moonlight and Moonlit Farewell)...
Small Addendum:
Playthrough 7, Dora on Medium: 00:25:34, 100% Completion.
And I did a quick 8th Playthrough to finish up some stuff for 100% Achievements.
Yeah, I had fun, short, easy to 100%, tight experience.
Probably could've saved a few runs if I had looked up some things before but that's on me.
Momodora is such a charming series, and this entry is no exception. The pixel art evokes warm and fuzzy feelings, especially the character portraits - even the "evil" characters are so pretty! This is such a short experience tho, but I believe it's worth the price.
Mechanically there's not much complexity here. The game has a simple inventory system, allowing you to equip three passive items at a time. There are light metroidvania elements, with a few secrets to discover (but not many). You can either button-mash for melee attacks or charge for a ranged shot.
Momodora I and Momodora II can be played for free on their itch.io page. They are quite similar to this one, so playing them gives you a good idea of what to expect.
Score: 5/10 – Average
I'm not feeling this one, I find it plain and dull. I played through the other 4 games in the series and enjoyed them. This one is more linear like the first game, but your main attack is melee (you can press and hold to do a ranged attack but that's more of a cumbersome secondary, you can't pew pew). The first game is tighter and more engaging to me.
Momodora III maintains many (if not all) of the qualities of the previous games. The world where the story takes place is quite captivating and coherent, the characters are very charismatic and enhanced by the exuberant pixel art. The gameplay is completely fluid and deaths do not slow down the gameplay, every restart is quite quick. Two major differences that I noticed in relation to the previous titles is the level of difficulty, I found the 3rd one much easier, especially in relation to the 1st one. I don't consider this a negative or a positive thing, it will depend a lot on the player's style. Now the other point I consider negative, which is the length of the game.
I'm not one of those players who think that the length of the game makes it good or bad. There are excellent games that last 1 hour or less and terrible games that last more than 50 hours. In the case of Momodora III this is negative because of the aforementioned game world that is so rich and interesting, with a short duration we delve less into Momodora's depths, which, for me, is the main difference of the series so far. There is no reason not to play the game, it is guaranteed quality and fun.
Despite being linear the levels were very thoughtfully designed. There was a bit of difficult platformer but it never got anywhere as abusive as Momodora 1. Although there weren't many passive items I do appreciate that build diversity was possible with the amount available. Very carried by how good the boss fights are, 8/12
