Really fun game, i have always loved games like this such as men of war. I love the more modern theme. The 1st person ability also adds another level to your strategy, as you can take shots at weak points of vehicles or shoot crew out of light vehicles and capture them. Highly recommend this game if you played anything like Men of War or Company of Heroes. Also you do not need a expensive gaming setup to play.
Pretty decent.
Definitely worth ~$10. The learning curve was a bit much if I recall. I feel like I don't remember them telling you how to do the first person stuff. I had a fun 10 hrs so far playing the game. I think it could be more enjoyable with friends that know what they're doing!
I think the sniping is intuitive, but my friend did not. I had to tell him to watch the closing circle in single player. This is not an all encompassing review, but I think it's decent for the price point and if you buy it for $10, I think it's definitely reasonable to get 1 hr of fun per dollar.
You can easily emulate a better version of this game using mods in osfront
Really fun, a modern version of Men of War Assault Squad 2. The conquest mode will keep you busy for many hours, and the campaign missions are challenging but incredibly unique and rewarding, as they are not the usual 'combined arms' warfare and force you to be a little more tactical.
I have several gripes though:
- I wish the walking and running animations were better
- I wish ragdolls, and not set death animations, were in the base game
- There should be more battle/radio chatter as this would make the game way more awesome
- My BIGGEST issue is the tank combat. My God, watching the tanks sit there and shoot at eachother's front plate for 5 minutes is tough to look at. It's completely wack, I'm not asking for realism, but come on. Also, the fact that an MBT just mogs every other armoured unit is a little annoying, for example, if you have an Abrams, it will literally tear up everything else on the battlefield (until it gets to another MBT), which I feel is a little annoying in terms of game balancing, as it forces you to abuse MBTs when I'd prefer to use other armoured units, as using something like a Bradley or LAV is just setting yourself up for mental pain as you watch it get 1 shot by a T-62 out of view distance.
I would recommend this game if you like RTS military games, but for sure check out the workshop if you'd like the game to be a little more realistic.
It is a really fun game with a somewhat 'realistic' and unforgiving approach, bringing the mechanics of games like Soldiers Heroes of World War II to the modern age and adding 1st person direct control. Wish they kept this on Ostfront.
非常好玩的一款游戏家狗和战争之人 men of war极其相似!但是单兵作战优化很多!
this game sucks ass and is Broken AF in every way possible. just go get call to arms hell's gate
I am strongly disappointed, only feature keeping me here is fps camera. game is just unfair on higher difficultyevels which don't satisfy me when I play strategy games, the ai should be smarter not still restarted but with unlimited forces
I would truly recommend this game, if it wasn't for various factors, ignoring the Gates Of Hell that comes within the game thats an absolute masterpiece, Call To Arms its just a painfull game in every single term except graphics.
the AI even to this year (2025) is just painful, your soldiers will have the reaction time of a cow and will usually get mowed down upon close-quarters combat as they dont have enough brain to throw granades by themselves, beat the AI its harder than beat Dark Souls 5 times (especially in conquest with Hardcore realism), enemy tanks are almost invincible most of the times (especially russian ones like the T-72, that thing its just... horrible to kill) and yours will die when hit by the first RPG.
I tried to play with the WarFighter Mod that its a big Overhaul for the game, but I just decided to quit because of how BAD your AI is. I dont understand why it is like this, since the AI of Gates Of Hell its 10x times better, being Call To Arms its supossed base game.
And, not to mention that the game isn't receiving that much of updates since the devs are focusing more on Gates Of Hell that, I dont say its bad, I f*cking love Gates Of Hell, but I would like that they put more work into their base game Call To Arms that its very unfinished afther like 7 years since its release.
About graphics, its pretty good, with just small details that are missing like the fact that when a round hits reactive armor most of the time it doesn't dissapears or shows a good enough effect.
So Yeah
Most of the game's workshop and the game itself is dead for now, Gates Of Hell its on its prime so if you just wanna play a good WW2 RTS game there will be no trouble, but if you wanna play a cool Modern War game, Call To Arms isn't your best option if you dont wanna quit the game within 20 hours of total gaming.
10/10 says not to use cheat engine even in the background.
I was playing a single player game earlier in the day, and got bored so I decided to load WeMod. I had forgotten it was running in the background.
When I loaded the game, it crashed and then shortly after, other stuff wasn't working properly. After I noticed that other applications and system processes were running slowly or not working I reset my computer. When the computer started loading back up it showed the manufacturer, then it displayed a black screen with only the mouse cursor when you moved it around. I tried to the computer into safe start, but even that wasn't working. I tried the key combination and the power button option. Not even windows recovery worked.
The game corrupted my windows OS, and to such an extent that I couldn't recover anything.
That is one heck of a security system.
Congrats on Nuking my computer.
10/10 would recommend
I usually dont write reviews but this game series is one of the best ever, the mod support is what gives these games 1000s of hours of replayability like almost no other. the devs know how to make a great game that can be enjoyed nonstop. I would highly recommend.
CTAGOHO is WAY better, in EVERY single way, but this is still a fun game, despite it feeling like its from 2012 and not 2018, its aight.
Game is good, but incomplete. I'd love to see some content updates, voice acting for units and to not totally rely on mods to get content.
An amazing mix of RTS and 3rd/1st person shooter with nice graphics and mechanics.
As a fan of modern war sims, I was hoping this game would stand out, but in almost every way, it falls short compared to Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront. While it's still a decent game, if you're open to older weapons and in exchange a more refined experience, I’d strongly recommend Gates of Hell instead.
Cool campaign, damage models are immersive.
Control logic feels clunky, the FPS view for riflemen looks horrendous (just a static image of iron sights, not 3D)
It tries to be both an FPS and RTS at once, but it ends up missing the point of both, especially trying to micromanage multiple units, supplies, and so on whilst you're switching in and out of first person controls.
10.99 just to use top of line equipment for 4 out of the 6 other factions?? Too much.
Good potential but bad execution, game gets boring quick
A fantastic continuation and evolution of one of my favorite military RTS series. The direct control gameplay concept is a bold choice—many have tried and failed to implement it successfully. Here, it’s executed fairly well, though there’s still room for improvement, especially in terms of balance. There are also some bugs and crashes, but it’s clear that the developers are actively working on the game. Overall, the experience is unique, and the level of detail in weapons, gear, and military vehicles is truly impressive.
as a men of war assault squad enjoyer , i find this simply amazing and 10x better .
Incredibly clunky controls and the AI is beyond stupid. You can take direct control of characters but at that point it is just a worse version of COD or Battlefield.
Also the developer seems to be deaf. I had to put the game on minimum volume to not have my ears exploded. For some reason you also cannot change settings during cutscenes, so that you have to watch the entire cutscene at a ridiculous volume and then after it when your ears are bleeding then you can lower it.
This game is awesome but needs an update:
1. New skins
2. New factions
3. New props
4. New modern wars missions.
Gulf War, Falklands War, Chechen War, and so on...
Crazy Underrated. The stuff you can do with mods is nuts. Just wished the factions werent locked behind a paywall.
I'm sure this is an amazing game - I just don't have the time to invest in learning the UI and the overwhelming amount of deetz required to make it worthwhile. :/ Remember the old TT game, Squad Leader? It's like getting that game, but without instructions or a tutorial. Just...figure it out.
the Ai is absolute shit, your guys get gunned down instantly even behind cover and dont shoot back at all
The game and play mechanics are great. A RTS/FPS game that really does give so much to offer. There always is room to improve and I want to suggest to have some controller layout for the moments FPS is being utilized. Having better control of the helicopters would be a great addition, instead of the limitation of the current version. Great game but those are some constructive feed back opinions.
The AI that you are given is just dumb and cant shoot or laydown cover fire when its the right and logical time to do so. When im flanking with a unit on another enemy position my guys, the spec opps dudes, are like looking at the sky or some crap when there is clear opportunity. I feel like this game is more about number rather than tactics because of how oblivious your units can be. They crawl for no apparent reason while the rest of the unit is running to cover, armoured piercing rounds get used on coverless infantry. you know stuff like that
The business model for this game is obtuse and purposely confusing. Deluxe edition does not let you play as resistance armies in singleplayer, only in multiplayer. Description needs to be more clear what "unlocked" means.
Wonderful game with a lot of options to play with. I have seen no errors or mistakes during the game which is the most important thing to notice. Nice play!
It is a good game, but not as good as Gates Of Hell. Nice story lines and game play, it is a good buy without doing cartwheels.
nice game but has some bugs on a mission
dam good game even tho i run it at minim, the AI is still a little funny in all the right ways, i love going blue helmet hunting as the GRM.
worked the first time i opened and played and ever since it just crashes on startup, literally tried everything and appearntly is a common unsolvable issue for alot of players so def not worth
Before I stumbled a pone CTA I played SQUAD and City skylines very different game play fast and furious, of slow and methodical. This game gives me the best of both worlds. The learning curve for me was and is still steep, but I have enjoyed all the different styles of game play CTA offers. The game runs smoothly, no crashes and the graphics are very good. I haven't attempted multi-player yet but intend to try in the near future, I want to get a little better, and try not to embarrass myself to bad.
For my short experience i can't neither really recommend for or against. But however solely to play this skirmish on your own against AI. Lackluster at best.
At first glance it got potential, after finishing tasks and progressing further, you unlock new units via research and obtain via resources you accumulate over time + replenish per battle.
However the whole setup, defend this or capture this, hold this. Attack this. Etc objectives on the same or similar maps over and over again started to become very repeating.
Same with the objectives.
I personally don't think there will be any games that could get near either the orig. Company of heroes or Sudden Strike for that matter in terms of scale and size.
Which is sad. But if you ask me, no. I wouldn't recommend the game solely based on if you want to just do skirmish games by yourself.

Ah yes. Spamming the enemy with beautiful Russian war machines and artillery.
Excellent modern warfare RTS Game. Well worth buying
I had low expectations and this game did not disappoint. It is a fun shoot em up
great game honestly relaxing a little bit for me but makes me use my mind i love it
Even though this game is pretty old. It still plays well and the possibilities are actually shocking. The amount of carnage you can cause is amazing and the troops have some variety. So much fun to play with friends. The graphics aren't amazing, but the game is still definitely worth getting! 8/10
This Game was one of the best games i have played in a long time and the Dev try hard to keep the game going the game play is good and the combat when switch to 3rd person to 2nd person feels so cool so thank you dev for all your hard work
I was unsure if I should download this game, as I have issues playing CTA Ostfront, but the price was right, so I gave it a try. I only have 10 hours on it, but I have had a great deal of fun playing this game!...With no glitches or crashes! I plan on blowing a few hours right now figuring out this killer game! Graphics and game-play have been flawless. Haven't got into the storyline yet, but seems typical enough for now. I hope for a more involved, personal plot. We shall see.
So far it is kicking my ass because my strategy SUCKS lol. I would recommend this game to anyone that like RTS games let alone the little taste of FPS you can get here as well.
well, i sent a squad of men to capture a point and they all died due to a competant engineer placing a few claymores... Fun game.. But im still salty..
Great Game I just wish they took the time to keep updating and even add more factions. the only downside is how weak Bradleys are in game.
Great RTS. You can command units,& even take control of a unit. Highly recommended
Fantastic for a modern day RTS/FPS game. realistic and very fun
I really enjoy the game, i like how you can go from RTS form to FPS and be able to equip your soldiers with weapons from fallen allies or enemies or get equipment from supply stacks or vehicles. It reminds me of CnC Generals and Zero Hour, interesting part is the ammo type for certain vehicles. There's a lot more I could say, but overall this game is well worth the price and game play.
Not worth my time. The devs want to sell me a product and while everyone expects a steep learing curve with this type of game you can't sell a product with ZERO tutorials or explanations. Right, there is a tutoral and it's three lines:
"You have to capture the flag to win"
"Use units to capture the flag"
"Use cover"
Well good luck with that information.
How do i view my units inventory? How do i view my units Equipment? How do I split a squad? What is are the recources? How do I get them? What do I use them for? How do I give a select route? How am I supposed to know you can pick up weapons? How do I tell units to use those weapons? What units are in this vehicle? How do i play the different gamemodes? What are Veterans? How does the research tree work? What units are there? What is an enginner? How do I use medics? What do the symbols mean? How do I deploy stationary weapons? And so on and so on.
No tutorial, no tooltips, not even a documentation wich I expect even from the laziest devs.
Search on yt? Well good luck, not even there are tutorials.
Well how do people know how to play this game than? Easy, they played earlier games from this dev WITH TUTORIALS and can figure out the differences.
I guess the game is good actually. And yeah I could get through it but it's not worth my time. I want to spend my time in meaningfull way and eventually I'd probably like this game but there are devs that actually sell me a complete product and show me how to use it. My time and money are better spend there.
Try Warfighter mod and be amazed. Efsanevi mod, gates of hell'den sonra geri gelmemi sağladı.
good game, but not great, its still has the same cold war mechanic or armor system that i dont like it, atleast they show us fps in rts game, but overall its a good game, Gates of hell better anyway, also gates of hell with modern mod way more better than call to arms
Very fun game, the modding community's creativity really is the cherry on top!
