First of all, the game principle appeals to me, these types of rhythm games are really cool and can get addictive pretty quickly.
But why I can't recommend it is that the controls are really bad, playing 4-5 notes per second is too crazy, I also tried it with a different layout, but it ended up the same.
It would be better to have an ASDF JKLÖ layout here, or two keys at the same time to play the semitones. Unfortunately, this is just a finger cramp.
Frederic: Evil Strikes Back is the sequel to the first Frederic: Resurrection of Music game. It is a rhythm game which has 4 difficulty levels, making it accessible for everyone of all skill levels. Although there are only 10 levels, the music was so refreshing and I liked the challenge that the hardest difficulty gave. Definitely do not attempt 100%ing this game as it will take you out, unless you are a masochist, which I definitely am. Recommended!
While this sequel is a minor improvement on the last one, I'd recommend it exactly the same.
This game swaps out its revamped OST for a score of inspired originals. Though I was disappointed in this change, I think this new score holds up on its own. Some songs, though, conflict with what I would have expected from their respective fighters.
A happy ABBA-inspired song from a Kiss-inspired band, a non-dubstep song after Genghis promises "Mongolian Dubstep" are a couple examples.
That aside, I found this game to ultimately be a more enjoyable playing experience than its predecessor.

I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.
The framing story drew me in, but without a touchscreen, the actual rhythm game is just too hard.
I tried rebinding the accidentals (black keys) to the right hand, but it just made me more confused.
Continuation of the “Resurrection of Music” game, “Evil Strikes Back” brings back our hero Chopin (now fully alive and with his heart intact) who must once again take on the challenge to save the world from yet another villain seeking to bend all music to his own nefarious goals. Gameplays is exactly the same as in the previous part, without any significant innovation: you get to “play the piano” (tap keys on keyboard) to match the notes of music to defeat your opponents in musical duels, except the music is now renditions of famous modern-age singers and composers (whom you get to meet in accompanying animations and fight in the duels), instead of Chopin’s own music. Still, it offers at least the same level of fun as the previous Frederic game did, and if you liked that one, you’ll surely enjoy its successor as well.
This game has an unique art style and has a good soundtrack. It's funny, but would be way funnier if you played this on its release year because of some meme references.
It has a few music references as well. The gameplay is simple and can be very challenging.
Since the campaign is kinda short, i recommend to only buy this on sale.
Once again the player takes control of Frederic Chopin, now transformed to a hip rockstar, who must rescue his three muses from an(other) evil villain and, same as the first game, must battle through a group of global musicians who stand in his way.
It seems that the developers were going for an original take on the music for the game(there are no remixes of Chopin compositions here, unlike the first game). The music is just as addicting and exciting as the first game, but it's quite disappointing that they removed Chopin's music that made the first game so special and memorable. It's slightly more difficult, but other than that, it's exactly the same game. Gameplay has not changed, plot is just as laughably over the top with the same cheesy animation and voice acting, only this time with twice the amount of pop culture references including Michael Jackson, Kiss, Lady Gaga, etc. But, nevertheless, a fun game to try out.
In fact, it's the only game where you will see Frederic Chopin, a Polish composer who suffered from tuberculosis throughout his entire life, transform into a muscular rockstar and battle against a gigantic robot with his awesome musicality.

Frederic: Evil Strikes Back is a fun little music game, where you have to match keys on your computer keyboard to the incoming graphical representation of musical notes onto a music keyboard in the game.
The keys are pretty easy. You use WER on one row of your computer keyboard and ASDF on the other row, and occasionally hit the spacebar. That's it.
However, matching the incoming notes is not always so easy when they're going fast.
Frederic: Evil Strikes Back has various cut scenes (which you can skip, if you want to) which give a brief story as a background to the game. There's not a lot of depth to the tale, but it has some nicely-drawn graphics.
I must admit that I'm pretty rubbish at this game, so I was surprised that I was able to get through all of the sessions even on the easy setting. Luckily, the game forgave me my many mistakes.
Whether I would be able to do all of the sessions on the harder settings might be a different matter altogether (although I haven't attempted those as yet).
If you like music, and - more importantly - are quite dextrous, then it could be worth giving this game a try.
6/10.
The new Frederick builds upon the gameplay of the original, with two new notes and new rhythm styles. This new game uses the same cutscene-then-song format, though (and horray for that!) The cutscenes seem longer, the songs seem longer, but I think I prefer the classical remixes of the original. Having played through both games, I can say that they work 100% perfectly on ubuntu linux. It took me a long time to warm up to the Frederick games, but these have become some of my favorite games to play.
As if it were even possible, this game is even more demanding than the first. There are two levels, where there is simply no pattern to the notes. The only way to mastery is through obscene memorization or lightning reflexes. For this reason, I believe the original Frederick has better gameplay, even while this sequel is still very good. The original Frederic feels more fair, and I only recommend Evil Strikes Back, after the reader has an appreciation for this type of gameplay from the original.
This game uses the Unity Game Engine. It takes 1,800 MBs of diskspace. I played this game with the keyboard only, with an ubuntu linux desktop with radeon mesa graphic drivers. I recommend this game to anyone who can appreciate music, and it will show them a deeper appreciation for music, tonality, and rhythm. The Frederic games are some of my favorite Steam games, and I keep coming back to them again and again. I am very grateful for the experiences.
+And it's great music
+ Jackson, ladygaga's style of music can hear
+ place songs really feel
- it's a real anti human.
-You come to funny story

The music out of the negative points of operation
When I got this game I expected something like Dance Dance Revolution or Deemo..... My mistake... This game's story makes no sense at all and it's really REALLY corny. The controls are awkward and personally I don't like how the whole thing works.... In other words, don't get this game full price, if anything get it while it's on sale.
On the bright side I only spent 99 cents!
I should have known I wouldn't enjoy this given how the previous game ended. chopin becomes some kind of weird douche with a keytar at the end of the first game, and then you spend this game running around playing a lot of music that sounds good but some pairings don't make sense, like pairing an abba sounding song with a kiss themed band, cause that makes sense, I saw "Hiss" and was obviously psyched to play a kiss themed song, turns out to be abba and I knew I wasn't gonna enjoy this. baring in mind I skipped every god damn cutscene cause I could not stand them this time around, I watched the first one, realised this was how they were gonna do the rest of them and decided forget it I'll just skip through everything. and honestly I feel like I dodged a bullet with that decision given how much I disliked the rest of the game. Now to explain how impossible it is to play this on pc, so I played the last game with my mouse and had a generally good time the story was dumb and the ending fairly awful, but the music was good , this time you cannot play with a mouse no matter how good you are with one. basically from the onset you are beset with a swarm of notes that you will miss most of, and as you go further it obviously gets harder and more likely you will get a lower score. Keyboard is no better you're undoubtedly off tempo with keyboard, like I changed up the keybindings for keyboard and, even though I followed the tempo i still missed almost every note. So yeah controls are awful seriously just play this with touch input. there is a point where I almost quit because a German dancing robot hit me with a million simultaneous notes at once, like how do you hit all those notes at once? do i just slam my hand all over the keyboard and hope for the best?
Maybe I should have headbutt my monitor for best results.
TLDR:
Aside from some decent music, this game is a definite pass.
Play the previous title in the series, way more fun and you get to play as a proper respected Chopin, not some swaglord douchebag who by the end of the game goes super saiyan for some ridiculous reason.
If you absolutely must get this game wait for a sale, do NOT buy at full price it's not worth it.

Got this game for about $0.48... I'd say this game is easily worth $5.00. The music in it is just amazing and I love how true this game is. For instance, Frederic had this horrible phobia of being buried alive so in his will, he stated that he wanted his heart removed from his chest and in this game, he's trying to find it. Pretty cool stuff man.
Frederic is back with a new piano, a new ride and a new look. He no longer looks like a dirty Van Helsing, now he looks like a wanna be Michael Jackson. I have carpal tunnel in my left wrist after beating the game. I prefer the other games musical tracks to this one. These tracks are rather long and quite hard to beat on higher difficulty. Anyways, can't beat the price.
Goofy, cheesy and fun! Music is nice and you get to kick the arse of some celebs :) Definetly the right game to de-stress and have some no brain fun.
(Played with QSDFGHJ keys, alterning B&W keys)
ridiculously good fun, thought i wasn't going to enjoy it but it proved me wrong big time.
i'm a big fan of time reaction/brain games so this was a blast for me, still got to complete in chopin mode and don't really know what the storyline is about (skipped a lot :P).
the music is amazing, the background art is fun (and sometimes srsly destracting xD) and i don't think i've ever smiled so stupidly in every single level of that game - it just makes you wanna laugh.
Frederic: Evil Strikes Back is the sequel to one of my favorite rhythm games of all time, Resurrection of Music. If you haven't yet read my review on that game, take a minute to do that now.
RoM was a fantastic game for many reasons, the most important of which is the music. Carefully remixing select compositions from Chopin's work was a stroke of genius, and was the heart and soul of an amazing experience that should not be missed. If you haven't yet played it, you are missing out on something really special. So the sequel should be another masterpiece, right?
It is with a heavy heart that I have to condemn this game for what it is. What made the first game special, the music, is why the sequel falls flat on its face. Take the heart and soul from a work of art, and you're left with an unrecognizable shell, feeding off of the success of its predecessor. That is what has occurred here, and I couldn't be any more disappointed with the results.
When I try to imagine what they could do to make a fantastic sequel, I see many possibilities. Something as simple as more of the same, remixing more of Chopin's compositions into more tracks, would have been perfectly acceptable. Teaming up with other well known musicians like Beethoven or Bach and remixing their music would have been great as well. If the premise isn't broken, then you shouldn't try to fix it. Forever Entertainment has already proven that they are more than capable of doing any of those things, so my expectations were high for the next game in this franchise.
Unfortunately, that is not the direction the developers took with this sequel. All of the tracks in this game are completely original, and instead of matching the style of a particular country, they match the style of famous musician. For example, a couple of the characters you come across are parody versions of Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. Not a terrible idea, but the original music fails to be catchy, fun to play, and in some cases, even tolerable to listen to. As I have stated in the past, rhythm games are only as good as the music they include, which makes this game absolutely terrible.
Taking Chopin's work out of the franchise entirely just doesn't make sense to me. Remixing his compositions to fit the style of these particular musicians would have been easy enough, and it would have been interesting to hear Lady Gaga's rendition of Raindrops. Without his music, this game just feels uninspired, and it becomes a chore to even finish it.
To be fair, the rest of this game hasn't changed a bit. The gameplay is exactly the same, the art style hasn't changed, the story is just as nonsensical, and the voice acting is just as stroke inducing as in Resurrection of Music. There are no surprises here.
It's a shame that the developers forgot what made the first game so special. Maybe the third game in the franchise will return it to its roots, but I will be researching it first before wasting money on another sequel.
As with its predecessor, this game is loaded with cheese, bad acting, and a horrible story; but it makes up for it with some really great music. If you are a classical music fan and was hoping for more Chopin interpretations, you'll be disappointed. Unlike the first "Frederic" that used modern takes on Chopin classics, this version uses close approximations to more modern music. The music is still really good, though. (As a Queen fan, I particularly enjoyed their take on "Radio Ga Ga".)
And also like original, I recommend this more for those who have laptops with touchscreens or a Windows Surface. Trying to play this game on a PC keyboard is a source of great frustration for people who play musical keyboards because it's very difficult to get keyboard keys in a position that accurately approximates a musical keyboard. But playing on a touchscreen feels amazingly natural. Even more difficult levels still feel good to play with a touchscreen.
So, if you have a touchscreen laptop or a Surface, I *highly* recommend this game as well as its predecessor. If you're on a PC keyboard, remap the keys until they feel just right for you or else you're going to be in for a lot of frustration.
An interesting game, quite enjoyable. I recommend getting both in the bundle, don't bother with this game alone considering the similar price. The gameplay is good, with a few new note types in this game. However, the entire style of the game shifted awkwardly. Visually it seems better, but Chopin is less charming and less developed as a character. He's no longer a stranger in a new world, but more of a 80's popstar working to save himself. More of the jokes go from awkwardly hilarious to groaningly memetic. Meanwhile, the voiceovers that could've started their own memes are notably toned down. It's harder to tell that there are only a few voice actors in this version, but it's less charming and natural.
Probably the most important thing is the music. This time it is far-less inspired by Chopin, but the tracks are enjoyable to play. Nothing stuck with me the same way as the first game, but it's still fun. Fans of the story may be underwhelmed, it's not quite a classic. There is fair replayability if you are aiming to improve and complete higher difficulties, but it's easy enough to complete on the lower difficulties in 90 minutes. I can recommend the bundle at full price if you like the idea and plan to beat all the difficulties. If you are just wanting to play once or twice, I'd recommend a 50% off weeklong deal.
Sequel to the first Frederic game. This game no longer features compositions from Chopin but alterated version from Pop culture songs from Queen to Lady Gaga. It still has the slight quirky humour and a resurrected Chopin as the main character is really an awesome idea. Funnily either I got more used to the game controls now or this one is actually easier than the first one. Especially I found the later stages in the game not as difficult than the in the first game. And the final boss I actually managed to defeat on normal on the first try. If you liked the first Frederic Game definitly get this one it is more or less the same with a few tweaks (like double nodes). If you don't own any of the Frederic games I would say get the first one first.
Love this game, took me 30 minutes to beat yet it was a lot of fun. I've played it over and over again. The game itself is easy to play, you just got to play it. Start with the easiest difficulty and work your way up. It doesn't take much practice to get very good. This one is my favorite of the Frederic series. The music is great and I love the beats.
For a game that promises to be bigger and better than its predecessor in every way, Evil Strikes Back falls flat in almost every area except for (arguably the most important) the music. Whereas the previous installment was equal parts satire of the recording industry and love letter to the late, great Frederic Chopin, this one has more nods to musicians that were deceased far more recently, with amazing tributes to the likes of Falco, Freddie Mercury, and Michael Jackson. You won't hear Chopin's influence here, but you'll still hear some amazing tracks that duplicate the folk and contemporary music of the regions that you visit. It's not only deceased musicians who get their due, either, with characters lampooning the likes of KISS and Lady Gaga.
The part that was disappointing to me, however, was the story. The first game was quirky and charming, with clever satire mixed with other jokes and jabs at pop culture or random silly bits strewn about. Frederic himself was a somewhat smug, if charming, fish out of water, what you would expect of a composer who had been dead for a century and a half being brought back to life in today's world, trying to adjust to modern musical trends while keeping his own legacy alive and learning the reason for his return.
This time around, Frederic is almost insufferably full of himself, not to mention extremely modernized. This could have worked if some amount of time had passed, but the story is supposedly set immediately after the ending of the last game. He frequently trades substance for style, which seems to be running theme of this game this time around. It's still entertaining, it's just sad to see the hero, who was so lovable the first time around, turn into something rather obnoxious with little reasoning for it.
SPOILERS:
At the beginning of the game, Frederic loses his heart (I assume in a metaphorical sense, considering the imagery), which could explain the way he's behaving, if it weren't for a few things: 1.) he still manages to be kind and charitable when it suits him, 2.) he was acting this way both before and after it was returned and 3.) the first game already dealt with him trying to find his heart, in a more literal fashion (a nod to the controversy surrounding the fact that while Chopin was interrered in Pere Laichez cemetary in Paris, his heart is enshrined in an urn filled with alcohol in Warsaw). Basically, he's already gone around without a heart, and managed to be a good character regardless of it, if an unwitting pawn in a grander scheme.
That's not to say this game isn't without its own degree of charm and humor. Most of the references are nods to internet memes this time around, sometimes subtly, sometimes more obviously but to hilarious effect (especially the ending). But as a music game, if you're not in it for the story, then it's still more than solid. The soundtrack is easily equal to, if it doesn't surpass, the first game's, and the gameplay hasn't been radically changed, but mixed up just enough to keep it fresh.
It's sad that the storytelling isn't as strong as it was the first time around, but like the previous game, the fact that it includes a free copy of its stellar soundtrack makes it worth the price of admission alone. That you get a fun and quirky music game in the deal is all gravy.
Not many songs to be played, but it is a fun game. I have stupid fingers, so it is frustrating at times. If you can grab it on sale, it is a good buy.
