this game is amzing one of a kind
Classic game, although nowhere near as fleshed out as its predecessor, Day of Defeat
The OG DoD has more weapons, factions, and maps. The weapons feel more accurate (whereas in this game the spray patterns feel totally random), and the movement system is superior.
This is still a good game, mind you. Its much easier to find populated servers and the rag-doll physics are hilarious. But if you ever play the original, and then hop on this, its immediately obvious that the older one is better in just about every way
I'd give this a 7.5/10. I still play it regularly when I can't find servers in the OG DoD
there are not many servers left of this rather aged game, but the guys and girls playing it are quite the community..it's the only online game I play
I played Day of Defeat: Source for the first time right after my grandfather passed.
He was a World War II veteran, and I grew up listening to his stories of combat.
He wasn’t a man of many words, but when he talked about the war, you could hear the weight of every battle, every life lost.
I wasn’t sure I could even handle playing a game set in World War II.
But something about the historical setting, the gritty realism, drew me in.
Each round, I thought about my grandfather.
How he’d probably scoff at the idea of a "game" about war, but also how he would have been proud of the level of detail.
As I fought in the trenches, I thought about him.
He’d lived through real combat, and here I was, standing in his shoes, even if only for a little while.
Day of Defeat: Source wasn’t just about fighting.
It was about understanding the sacrifices made, the lives forever changed by war, and trying to honor that history.
fun, but i suck at it
best dating sim i've ever played
Amazing immersive game :) love it
Even though this is an older game, it still holds up today, with an amazing and robust game engine. Also, the players are awesome, friendly, fun to play with, and often become your friends who genuinely care about you. Yes, it would be cool if there were other factions to fight, like the Russians, Japanese, and British ... but, what we have, and because of how old this game is, we just have to make due with what we have.
Have fun gaming!
Counter-Strike: Source but Axis are the Terrorists, Allied the Counter Terrorists and France (dod_donner) is Morroco (de_dust2). Few but loyal players. The U.S. servers 6th Rangers Battalion and 1st Marine Raider Battalion are the most popular with the least mods.
one of the unique and fun ww2 shooters out there
nice game
I would like to thank Valve for making these games for us. Games like Portal (1-2), Team Fortress (OG-2), and the game (which the third might never come out) Half-life (1-2-Alyx-etc).
game is like call of duty black ops 6 but little more better, it needs more skill!
best ww2 game
Good remake of the GoldSrc engine game remade in the Source Engine. Very Underrated.
There are too many issues after the 19th Feb 2025 update to recommend this game.
Valve have a history of updating this game since 2013 and it breaks the game...then they never fix what they broke.
Examples can be found in the dod:s github issues list. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20is%3Aopen%20label%3A%22Day%20of%20Defeat%3A%20Source%22
Some go back over a decade like missing textures in dod_anzio near the bridge steps that allow you to see through walls.
If that was TF2... imagine the outcry, it would be on every gamer news site.
Don't buy a broken game. Play something else until they fix it.
Its still a blast
it's really good! Worth it!
i am so happy to hear this game is still somewhat active, i played a lot during 2013-2014 when i was an obnoxious child and still had an awesome time, i still see quite a few active servers not as many as 4-5 years ago for a game this old, dod survives !!
Nothin better then beating a shovel over someone's head :D
Fun ww2 shooter
game was great until the update broke everyone's server. It's slowly recovering.
I absolutely adore this game. No updates, no problem. The Source engine's superb movement and gunplay will carry this title into whatever the future may hold for it. As far as WW2 shooters go, it is unrivalled in its combination of fun and ease of playing. Brutally simplistic yet fun. 8/10.
played this game for 66h and it reminds me of cs. would like to see a newer or remasred version and that more would play it.
war of crime, send help im having flashbacks of being nazi
Ironically, despite this game allowing you to play as a Nazi, I've met more Nazis on Team Fortress than I ever have in this game. All of the people are so nice to me, even though I am a filthy queer. Thank you, beautiful day of defeat community for loving to love and hating to hate.
of course i recomend this game, it is really good for 2005. Comunity is really nice you can feel the vibe, there is a lot of different servers, buy it for sure!
I suck at this game, I love it.
Been playing since 2016 had a blast grew up with this game glad valve made something as cool as this :)
If ever there was a game that deserves more players, it's this one.
good
this game may not have the best graphics, but the community made it fun to play
the game mechanics suck. I keep getting killed and dont get to kill one single player.
Eh it's like a weaker but more active version of dino d-day
its a retirement home for 350 pound 55+ guys players are horrible and weird tbh they should be set on fire while being streamed on facebook live youd be better off not playing this one just play left for dead or counter strike source or something
It's an oldie, but goodie.
10/10 gave me a foil trading card worth 1.10$
This game is one of the best WW2 games, if you suck at the game you can just fight a few bots that are dumb and have stormtrooper aim, personally i suck at the game but i still enjoy it either way
After playing for this many hours, I've come to realized how much time I have wasted playing this crappy game. I ain't never playin this again, deadass bro... (for the record, I'm not upset about this game. It's just the game, it just sucks and boring.)

Germans servers most fun.

🌟 Pros

✅ Well-Designed Maps – The maps are well-crafted, often inspired by real WWII locations, providing a mix of close-quarters combat and long-range engagements.

❌ Limited Modern Updates – The game hasn’t seen significant updates in recent years, and Valve has shifted focus to other titles, which may affect long-term support.
❌ Player Base Diminishing – While it has a dedicated community, finding active matches can be a challenge due to the game’s smaller player base.
❌ Less Fluid than Contemporary FPS Titles – Despite its Source engine improvements, DoD: Source feels slower and more methodical compared to fast-paced, modern shooters.

greatest shit in 2026
Not a bad game, just there are WAY BETTER WW2 games on the market.
This game's bots will not attack but wander around.
Workarounds through third party may be only solution to fix that.
Spawning them does work, but they won't attack.
Decades later, its still getting updates!
Timeless classic!
Day of Defeat: Source is one of the finest multiplayer shooters ever crafted. Built on the Source engine, it takes the intensity of World War II battles and distills them into tight, tactical team-based combat. It’s a game where every life matters, every shot counts, and teamwork determines victory.
Gunplay & Mechanics
The weapons feel weighty and authentic, rewarding skill and positioning over mindless run-and-gun tactics. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as landing a perfect Kar98k shot or mowing down enemies tactically with the STG-44.
Teamplay & Atmosphere
Unlike modern shooters, DoD:S thrives on coordination. You need your teammates to push objectives, cover angles, and hold the line. The sound design, the maps, and the class-based system make every match feel like a desperate fight for survival.
Maps & Replayability
From the war-torn streets of Avalanche to the open fields of Donner, every map is meticulously crafted for balance and replayability. No two rounds ever feel the same, and the thrill of securing that last flag in a hard-fought battle never gets old.
Community & Mods
While the player base is smaller today, the community is dedicated, and custom servers keep the game alive with new content and unique twists. Still the classic vanilla way of playing is the best.
If you love tactical shooters, historical authenticity, and heart-pounding firefights, Day of Defeat: Source is an absolute must-play. It’s a relic of a golden era in FPS gaming—one that still holds up beautifully.
💀 Prepare to die to snipers on Avalanche.
🔥 Prepare to be pinned down by MG fire on Flash.
⚡ Prepare for one of the best FPS experiences ever.
LONG LIVE DOD:S!
PS. Valve we need DOD 2!
THEY MADE MENU LETTERING LOOK LIKE ITS A GOLD SOURCE GAME... DOWNVOTED... BRING BACK OLD SOURCE 1 FONTS PLZ. REVIEW WILL CHANGE WHEN MY WISH HAD BEEN GRANTED
