Not a bad game, just there are WAY BETTER WW2 games on the market.
This game's bots will not attack but wander around.
Workarounds through third party may be only solution to fix that.
Spawning them does work, but they won't attack.
Decades later, its still getting updates!
Timeless classic!
Day of Defeat: Source is one of the finest multiplayer shooters ever crafted. Built on the Source engine, it takes the intensity of World War II battles and distills them into tight, tactical team-based combat. It’s a game where every life matters, every shot counts, and teamwork determines victory.
Gunplay & Mechanics
The weapons feel weighty and authentic, rewarding skill and positioning over mindless run-and-gun tactics. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as landing a perfect Kar98k shot or mowing down enemies tactically with the STG-44.
Teamplay & Atmosphere
Unlike modern shooters, DoD:S thrives on coordination. You need your teammates to push objectives, cover angles, and hold the line. The sound design, the maps, and the class-based system make every match feel like a desperate fight for survival.
Maps & Replayability
From the war-torn streets of Avalanche to the open fields of Donner, every map is meticulously crafted for balance and replayability. No two rounds ever feel the same, and the thrill of securing that last flag in a hard-fought battle never gets old.
Community & Mods
While the player base is smaller today, the community is dedicated, and custom servers keep the game alive with new content and unique twists. Still the classic vanilla way of playing is the best.
If you love tactical shooters, historical authenticity, and heart-pounding firefights, Day of Defeat: Source is an absolute must-play. It’s a relic of a golden era in FPS gaming—one that still holds up beautifully.
💀 Prepare to die to snipers on Avalanche.
🔥 Prepare to be pinned down by MG fire on Flash.
⚡ Prepare for one of the best FPS experiences ever.
LONG LIVE DOD:S!
PS. Valve we need DOD 2!
THEY MADE MENU LETTERING LOOK LIKE ITS A GOLD SOURCE GAME... DOWNVOTED... BRING BACK OLD SOURCE 1 FONTS PLZ. REVIEW WILL CHANGE WHEN MY WISH HAD BEEN GRANTED
good, but the fan base is grotesque and toxic. I got BANED because I punched my teammate ONE TIME!!
Awesome game to turn your speakers all the way up to give the authentic feel.
I love this game, its like Team Fortress two but in world war two, the voice lines and the guns are good.
I wish valve would update it and add valve offical servers that is kinda like how Team Fortress two has a casual mode
Day of Defeat: Source is an underrated gem in Valve’s lineup, delivering a tight, tactical, and immersive World War II multiplayer experience. Built on the Source engine, it modernized the original Day of Defeat with improved visuals, physics, and gunplay, while still retaining the fast-paced, teamwork-driven gameplay that made the original great.
The class-based system is one of the game’s strengths. Each role—whether it’s a rifleman, machine gunner, sniper, or support class—feels distinct and essential. There’s no lone-wolfing here; success depends on coordinating with teammates, holding key positions, and executing well-timed pushes to capture objectives. The game’s momentum-based gameplay makes every battle feel dynamic and strategic.
Gunplay is crisp and satisfying, with weapons that feel powerful and accurate. Rifles like the M1 Garand and Kar98k reward skill with deadly precision, while automatic weapons like the Thompson and MP40 excel in close-quarters combat. Machine gunners can set up suppressive fire, and snipers can lock down lanes, creating a balanced, tactical experience that rewards positioning and teamwork over run-and-gun chaos.
The map design is another standout. Classic WWII battlefields like Donner, Avalanche, and Flash offer well-balanced chokepoints and flanking routes, ensuring that matches feel fair, intense, and strategic. The objective-based gameplay, where teams must capture and hold key points, adds a layer of tactical depth beyond standard team deathmatch modes.
Visually, Day of Defeat: Source may not be cutting-edge today, but the Source engine’s physics and lighting effects still hold up well, giving battles a gritty, immersive feel. The sound design—with authentic weapon sounds, explosive artillery, and tense battlefield chatter—adds even more realism to the experience.
While it never reached the mainstream popularity of Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat: Source remains one of the best WWII multiplayer shooters ever made. If you enjoy team-based, tactical shooters with authentic WWII action, this game is absolutely worth playing.
Rating: 8.5/10 – A hidden WWII multiplayer gem that rewards teamwork and skill.
At first, I was kinda disappointed when I found out the game is not about feet. But after making some Americans rage at me, I felt it was worthwhile playing this game. Would recommend 10/10.
If you like Nazi roleplay and making Americans rage, this is the game for you!
One of the more better Source remasters, the game is really fun but quite dead nowadays, but you still always find a good full server, the gameplay feels fantastic and even...polished for a source game, the voicelines and visuals make the game feel so immersive sometimes, I still recommend buying in 2025.
its funny as hell with my friend, and most of the time there are 30yo dudes playing so its fun to troll them lol
Such a classic arena style source game that still has a great community.
great ww2 simulator that has been featured in many recent youtube videos
Yawn
Go play Counter Strike: Source
This game is just boring realism garbage.
also kinda sucks that all the servers that are left are reddit tier safespace "NO TOXICITY!111" servers where no edgy jokes or talk of any kind is allowed.
this is a fucking game about being draftees in WW2 dying out in the battlefield and i've never dealt with a softer playerbase in my life
Trash boring old game from 2004
There is a day of defeat and I DID bust all over my pc monitor once again.
I love this game , whenever Im alone games such these that are not serious and you can talk to a couple of people helps me spend my time , the games quite dead , but at some hours you can find servers to play on and more important , some real nice people that are just playing to be together and warmly welcomes you ! this game will be so cheap , cheap as a freaking bottle of water , I highly recommend buying this game 10/10 better than CS:GO
pure nostalgic well made and comunity isnt as toxic
ok ww2 game i like the maps and character models but the gun play sucks would reccomend but no if you dont like the gun play
Day of Defeat: Source is, plain and simple, a Source port of Day of Defeat, not unlike Counter-Strike: Source is a port of the original Counter-Strike. Now, for those unfamiliar with Day of Defeat, it's a multiplayer FPS game set in WWII, where you can play either as a member of the US Army or the German Wehrmacht. Once you've picked your team, you get to pick one of six different classes: Assault, Rifleman, Support, Sniper, Machine Gunner and Rocket, each with their own period-appropriate weapons.
Most of the gameplay revolves around completing objectives, like capturing control points or planting (and defusing) bombs. The game has several maps, most of them based on the European theater, but if there's one thing I'm disappointed at from this game, is its lack of a Normandy map. I remember playing one in the original Day of Defeat, and although I'm unsure now whether it was official or not, I think this game should've included an updated version. I spent many hours playing that map.
Graphics wise, well, it's a Source engine game. And while it still looks good nowadays, it hasn't received as many updates as something like Half-Life 2 has, so it does look a bit dated. Either way, I think it holds up decently.
All in all, a solid game, I recommend it.

i just have this game for gmod assets, cause otherwise i'm not all that big of a fan of DOD or DOD: source. military shooters have never been my bread and butter.
this game is like if counter-strike source and team fortress 2 had a war themed baby that never got updated, personally id recommend counter-strike source and team fortress 2 much more than this but if you're wanting to try something a little bit different then this works. it's objective focused so a lot of it centers around capturing points and such. but the focus on recoil and advanced gun mechanics and realism really draws from counter-strike.
This is a kind of game youd only hear about if you have enough interest in source engine games to look deeper. A hidden gem for sure. If you're on the fence about getting this game, think of it as a fusion of counter strike and team fortress. the TF part is that you can play as different classes that fill a certain role and you are working with your teammates to complete an objective. the CS part is in the little touches of realism, and that you can pick up dropped weapons, even ones that your class doesnt have.
I highly recommend this game to anyone with an interest in source engine games or valve stuff in general.
I have a lot more in this game than 173 hours, trust me. I started playing DoD v1.3 way back when, and naturally progressed to Source for my Friday evening de-stress. Its still a cracking simple online shooter if you want to avoid the complexities of some of the 'modern warfare' offerings these days. Man that makes me sound old! Give me a Karabiner 98 any day, very satisfying. Just a shame they decided to remove the British Army from DoD, though I dare say you can get a mod for that *yawn* ...anyway, decent enough graphics, straight forward controls and interface shall we say, plays pretty slick in my opinion. Still pop on now and again and mostly get owned these days, but its still good fun and usually in my library ready to go ;-) los los los!
Good game but the community is toxic, it's mostly ran by middle aged white males who are probably divorced, who tend to power trip a lot every time you shoot in spawn. Other than that it's a fun game to relax or wind down a bit.
played this as a teenager and the game is everything I remember and more (now i actually understand how to play these games somewhat). Great nostalgia trip to a game that holds up amazingly well to today's standards with beautifully crafted maps showing off a range of new features added to the source engine at it's release. Realistic, immersive gameplay really capturing the essence of close to mid range combat in this era of ww2. surpressing fire from machine gunners, covering fire from SMGs/Light machine guns all play their part in helping the team advance. My favourite game released on the source engine without doubt, if you like CSS and similar games this is even better and guaranteed enjoyment
very less people playing but still fun very nice
super fun
feels great to define your team and play your part
then none of your bullets hit
After all these years..I still find that the game is exciting and well maintained as far as just a good old fashion FPS thrill. Fewer servers but have found like minded players, fast paced thrills and awesome play. Thanx Valve/Steam!
servers all permaban you for having high ping its practically unplayable
Pretty much TF2 if you dont want to have to spend 10 years downloading 14 gigabytes onto your drive
DOD:S , was not really what I was expecting, but it's still pretty good, however the game is pretty dead, but there are some loyal players that , play this game daily, that I got a chance to play with, and by the sounds of it they REALLY like the game. As for me, I kinda liked it too, It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't what I expected it, from watching videos about it. Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10
Takes some grinding to get the achievements but it's an awesome game.
This game is like if you combined cod with tf2 its great.
Softlocks you in spectate mode, barely get a chance to play
Pretty cool game, never got to play it at the height of it's popularity but it looks like it was a lot of fun.
Way better than CS. Friendly players, good gameplay, pretty much ww2-team fortress-css
This game is incredible, good weapons sounds and models, old but gold.
I recommend
The playerbase keeping this game alive are the best!
This game is stunning in every way: graphics that have stood the 20-year test of time, gameplay that you want to come back to day after day, a small but very welcoming community. Valve doesn't come out with a new game very often, but when they do, they create works of art. 20 years later, this game still feels like it came out only a few years old. 10/10 for sure.
actually fun when youre not playing some modded slop map, very challenging and has a fun objective.
This game combines tactical elements of titles such as Counter-strike and Class-based shooters elements like in TF2 in one game.
Pretty cool and very underrated imo.
this game definitely needs more love. please support it, 🫡
Unfortunately it does't work anymore
This is such a cool and fun game. For something that was a complete side project it's really in-depth and the maps are really detailed. Too bad it died and got subsequently abandoned.
World War 2. What can even be said about it that has not been said? There is nothing new to add. It is its own genre at this point. Valve took a swing at WW2, and let me tell you. Even with 100 people still playing this game, it's still a really fun time. It's an older title, although it is pretty cheap to get your hands on. If you feel like getting in some classic PvP back in the day, then I recommend playing this before everyone jumps the ship. WW2, hopeful there won't be a 3rd. 9/10
баланс, рандомный разброс пиздец, гранаты ну такое, снайперка ну совсем такое, цвет униформы зависит от карты(от нормально до пиздец), сами карты ну такое, остальное оружие(кроме гаранда и с96) отлично
oversensitive boomer admins and insane weapon recoil are just not for me
Игры похожие на Day of Defeat: Source
