This game deserves a award.
Best game to play lately.
Good, but not the best.
The absolute best FPS of all time!
No way to report players, mind you its a very old game. Most of the "community" that is still active is cheating. Its a "VAC" protected game but that doesn't mean anything. This review is pointless, but considering I used to love this game many many years ago its sad to see the state its in.
Day of Defeat in my opinion is THE best HL1 mod. In one way its ww2 counter strike. The other it's a game that has aged perfectly and is a game that Is better than some modern games. Currently, I have 26 hours. I can guarantee I will play dozens more. Would recommend!
perfect WW2 game, old, but classic
Det var en 50 år gammel bestemor som skrek noen upassende ord 10/10
My friend who I play CS 2 with said if I post a review on this game and it gets 202 likes and 69 Awards that he will buy me a RTX 3060 and 2 Kilos of canned ham. So I'm just gonna leave this here. Help a brotha!
Masterpiece.
Put "trans" in my name and got banned from a number of servers. Seems some of the server mods are kinda trash. Was able to find some alternate servers to play on, though.
Enjoyable early Valve FPS with some realistic aspects like stamina, increased weapon recoil, and quick time-to-kill that add some depth over something like early Counter Strike. Could get into several lobbies just fine with other players as of late 2024.
I enjoy listening to everyone's banter. Most of the time, people are friendly enough or just leave me alone. And I LIVE for the Half-Life robot announcer voice that is used in some of the servers. It scratches an itch in my brain.
Good game, but it's pretty dead
6/10
Fun game
Fun old school game, but unfortunately too many cheaters.
old yet fun
fun game and people
Valve's beloved WW2 shooter which was originally a mod for Half-Life, not unlike the original Counter-Strike.
For the time that this game had an active playerbase, it was very fun. Most of the community moved to DoD:S and abandoned this game. It's hard to find a server but it was fun. I do recommend if you can find a server, but I also recommend Day of Defeat: Source as it is essentially the same thing.
I love this game because it brings people together and they have to communicate and sometimes you can find cool people :)
serious review this time: alot of fun and the details are really good for its time, Despite the blocky textures the goldsrc engine gave during this time, the firearms, the chracter models, the maps and overall the atomsphere is just perfect as it makes you feel like your in 1940s either taking over europe or being in the allied america side, killing all krauts. Downside is like there are like 7-10 servers that populate the game showing how dead it is but its better than the new games that comes out.
Enjoyable game just two teams fighting each other no vehicles just skills. Normally has one full server and the community are just nice people wanting to enjoy an old game. I think this game will still be played in the 10 years time.
I like it cause you get cool ttk and usually instant headshot kills.
I hate it cause you get cool ttk and usually instant headshot kills.
Game where you play as a pest killer, the pest being the red flag guys.
cs but in ww2
is a very good game :)
the people who still play this game and take every match completely seriously are total dork ass nerds.
Whilst the graphics are definitely dated, there is still a small yet active and friendly community present.
YES
an extremely underated game
only game i can think of that recreates savin private ryan or band of brother's, if you into that. Then this game is cool for ya or something.
nobody online
Day of Team Fortress
One of the classics , 10/10
classic
Very Fun for a 2003 game, this is a blast. I'm 14 and I love playing this. sometimes I choose it over battlefield 1 and V. For the small price of 6 dollars or whatever totally worth it.
War... War is always the same... No matter what. Today will be a Day of Defeat: Source
Pretty good game if you like old styled games
battlefield 0 for shitty pcs
so fun

NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN
How this is Valve's neglected underdog I have no idea, never heard of DoD a day in my life until I saw the Valve bundle, gave it a shot and it blew me away. There are already so many army games out there, COD, Battlefield, Arma, a whole list more, yet Day of Defeat still somehow manages to bring a unique and insanely fun experience. Class-based teamfights set in an enormous list of maps, just you and your wits, no vehicles, no fancy gadgets, no nothing, against them.
Props for realistic damage, you don't absorb bullets like a sponge, you die quickly just like that, not like other games where you can soak up an entire mag and brush it off, and oh my, the maps are so messy with many hiding spots, an enemy could come from anywhere. That combined with the fact that you die easily really sets a subconscious panic to be on red alert 100% of the time. That's what I imagine an actual war to be like.
What an absolute gem. Still holds up today if you aren't nitpicky about older graphics, and Sturmbot is a thorough mod that allows for singleplayer if you're up for an offline game like I am, and the bots are no joke, they're as much of a ruthless threat as regular players are.
10/10
Gg- good game! DOD is actually a good game, because older games just Have It!

Day of Defeat Review
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Overview: Day of Defeat is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter originally released as a mod for Half-Life in 2003, later becoming a standalone game. Set during World War II, it allows players to experience intense battles across various European fronts. The game emphasizes teamwork and strategy, making it a staple in the genre for its engaging and tactical gameplay.
Gameplay
Class-Based Mechanics: Players can choose from several classes, such as Rifleman, Sniper, and Machine Gunner, each equipped with different weapons and roles. This class diversity encourages collaboration, as teams must leverage each class's strengths to secure objectives and dominate the battlefield. The balance between classes promotes strategic gameplay and fosters cooperation among players.
Objective-Based Gameplay: Maps are designed for various game modes, often focusing on capturing control points or completing specific objectives. This design enhances the tactical aspect of gameplay, as teams must coordinate their efforts to achieve victory. The historical accuracy in map design adds depth, immersing players in authentic World War II environments.
Weapon Variety: The game features a wide selection of WWII-era weapons, each with distinct handling and recoil. The weapon mechanics are satisfying, providing a sense of weight and realism that enhances the combat experience. However, some players may feel that certain weapons could be better balanced, leading to discussions about their effectiveness in different scenarios.
Graphics and Performance
Visual Style: As a mod for Half-Life, Day of Defeat had modest graphics for its time, but it effectively captured the gritty atmosphere of WWII. The environments are well-crafted, with attention to detail that enhances immersion. While graphics may not compete with modern titles, they were impressive for a game of its era.
Performance: The game generally runs well on a variety of systems, benefiting from the robust Half-Life engine. Players can expect stable performance, with minimal lag and quick loading times, making it accessible to a wide audience.
Sound and Audio
The audio design is effective, featuring realistic sound effects that bring the battlefield to life. The sounds of gunfire, explosions, and ambient noise create an immersive atmosphere. Voice communication between players adds personality to the gameplay and enhances the teamwork aspect.
Community and Support
Dedicated Community: Day of Defeat has maintained a dedicated player base over the years. While its popularity may have waned compared to its peak, players can still find active servers and a passionate community. The game’s emphasis on teamwork fosters a sense of camaraderie among players.
Modding Potential: The modding community has contributed significantly to the game’s longevity, creating custom maps and game modes that enhance the overall experience. This ongoing support has kept the game fresh and engaging for veteran players.
Conclusion
Final Thoughts: Day of Defeat offers an engaging and tactical multiplayer experience set against the backdrop of World War II. Its emphasis on teamwork, class diversity, and objective-based gameplay make it a standout title in the genre, appealing to both casual and competitive players.
Overall Recommendation: For fans of team-based shooters and WWII settings, Day of Defeat is a must-play. Its blend of historical authenticity and strategic gameplay provides hours of enjoyment, making it a classic in the FPS genre.
