Following on from last year’s release of the free Santa’s Sweatshop content, our daring escapee elf unfortunately lost control of their sleigh mid-flight and was forced to make an emergency landing – right in the middle of the grounds of the Jingle Cells prison!
Stuck doing hard time again, if you want to get home in time for the holidays you’ll need to sneak around the brand new wintery themed prison sourcing the unique items and crafting supplies that you’ll need to repair the sleigh and make another break for it!
The Jingle Cells update features:

About the Game
You’ve landed yourself in prison again, and your only chance is to engineer an escape by any means necessary. How you do it is up to you! Why not cause a prison riot? Or dig a tunnel right under the walls of the prison? Or even steal a guard uniform to blend in with your captors?The Escapists is a unique prison sandbox experience with lots of items to craft and combine in your daring quest for freedom. Life in prison will keep you on your toes with the strict rules that you’ll have to break. The guards are out to stop any escape attempts, so you’ll have to avoid suspicious behaviour by attending roll calls, working a prison job and hiding your stolen craftables.
Escaping is what you do best, and you’ll have to prove your skills in a variety of challenging prisons from across the world.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas in 2021 from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.
the game is unfinished. movement jank, ai jank, a lot of features feel like they're still in beta despite the game having been released over 9 years ago (jesus christ i feel old now).
when i was in highschool one of the retarded kids jumped up on a table in the cafeteria and started screaming, and then one of the security guards freaked out and choke-slammed him. the only good thing about this game is you can (and accidentally will at least once) roleplay this exact scenario.
im a bit biased cause this was a childhood game for me + im very into strategic games, but this game is honestly really fun. the design is great (i love the pixelated style they went for), the random dialogue adds a nice funny touch, and its challenging in a really engaging way. theres so many ways to escape which keeps me coming back for more; i wanna test myself with all the different methods. would definitely recommend if youre looking for a new challenging game to play or wanna kill time

really bad game, never have I been punished so much for literally just walking and I have not had my progress reset so many times in one day. Definitely one of the worst most annoying games I've played in a while.

Alright, let’s talk The Escapists—this is one of the best 2D pixel games out there. The whole concept of breaking out of prison? Brilliant. Whether you’re digging tunnels, cutting fences, or sneaking out during roll call, it’s pure strategy and chaos.
But let’s be real—the part where you can shank people in the shower? Classic (in the game, I swear... in the game). Would I ever shank someone outside the game? Nah... unless we’re talking 2004 in Florida—but don’t tell anyone.

This game can be frustrating, fun, rewarding, annoying, and most of all, challenging (all of these are mostly just for those still getting the hang of the game/new to it). The crafting system can be very annoying given the limitations of having only 3 slots for items, but it can also be very rewarding to figure out a crafting recipe on your own based on context clues and hints. While I only have 3 hours of the game on here, I have more hours on the nintendo switch version, where most of my experience comes from, and while the controls are different, I definitely prefer the desktop controls, largely because of the mouse support. It also worked on my old windows 7-era pc running ubuntu 18 and sporting an AMD Athlon CPU, so the hardware requirements are very lenient if that ancient desktop can run it. Overall, this game is a great choice if you want to feel like a convict attempting to get past the security to escape, having to really think on your heels and figure out crafting recipes for useful items to help you plan and execute your escape. The DLC for this game also adds a lot of depth, I know that I had fun playing the Escape Team map, even if I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do for most of my time playing it.

A very original game, hollydays saver and soooo fun ! I still return on this game in my escapists phase, alternating with the 2. A plus, DLC's are very good, and there's a map editor that allowes you to create custom prisons with steam workshop to play other's maps.
I think that because The Escapists 2 exists it's important to note that, in my opinion, there's not really a better game between the first and the second, these games have different gameplay and that's what I like. Of course many improvement with the second but it doesn't make the first one worst or less perfect.
Take this one and The Escapists 2, two excellent games. Thank you for these masterpieces !
