Nice game, quite similar to Freelancer (though not as good)
Annoying and repetitive. Can't even manually save the game.
Very good game. Took me almost 70 hours to get all achievements. Kinda repetitive but still made it.
Advice on Antimatter Speck as it can be very hard to find: Just keep fighting Viriax on last system instead of looking for it to mine.
Also on spawning Pirate Lords: Just break sieges like Korian Invasion, Crime wave, Military Embargo as they are events. It means it force the game to RNG another event and Pirate Lords are considered events which MAY pop up.
A good fun space battle game. Don't look for in depths system trees or even three dimensions (pretty much all on one plane), but it's still very fun and satisfying blowing the heck out of a destroyer after pounding away at its shields forever. I do really like the warp drive design. A lot of games could benefit from the way this game actually lets you navigate warp speed instead of just a cutscene.
The game's difficulty is not so well balanced and its categorization of how difficult a mission or a region is, is entirely based on your equipment level. Means that a mission can be seen as easy because you have a few high level guns but is actually very hard because your armor and shields are low and a big swarm of enemy low-level fighter jets will rip you to shreds faster than you can blow them up. As long as you priorize defense over weapons and keep a steady equipment level, the missions danger state is most of the times realistic. At that point the game quickly becomes kinda grindy because higher level equipment is expensive, means you need to grind a few millions first before you upgrade your gear from Lv 4 to Lv 5. After playing through the campaign, it suddenly boils down to this grinding. I was able to find one side campaign and played through that as well, don't know if there is more. It's a fun game for 40 like hours but I'm not sure if I'd play it just for fun after that.

If Firefly was a video game
Four playthroughs, 156 hours on record at the time of writing ; an experience from which I enjoyed every single part.
This game has some visible flaws and a feeling of being quite barebones/lacking in depth sometimes. But once you immerse yourself in the gameplay loop, you might actually stop noticing them and just enjoy the ride. I never played other titles in the "space cowboy" genre, and I find Rebel Galaxy to be a formidable attempt at making you feel like a real space cowboy.
First and second playthroughs were quite generic, discovering the game and going back on what I missed the first time. Then I had the urge to play again, and here I was manning the D.R.G. Drillhead in the "Mining Grind"... Never thought of being a gold forager in space, but that playthrough was beginning to get some fun on the table : only mining-related missions, with the occasional "navigational coincidence" (wink) that were Bounties to hunt.
Fourth playthrough was by far the most fun I had, and may be the Grand Finale I needed on this game. The game makes you start with the Rasputin, a Hammerhead corvette given by your aunt, and the game makes you feel how decrepit that ship is. Well, I asked myself how far you could bring that obsolete craft. Turns out you can finish the game with it, and have the most exciting naval battles I had in a while. Far from the power-trip of a dreadnaught, finishing the game in a corvette makes fighting big enemies a much more daunting and strategic task, but surprisingly spamming broadsides works the same as with a big ship !
Overall I found this game surprisingly entertaining, and for a game I bought on sale for 2 bucks I regret absolutely nothing. A good old offline adventure game in space, what else could you ask for ?
Technical bonus points, Rebel Galaxy runs very good on my consumer-level laptop. Graphics settings on "Medium" with no GPU is some insane stuff I have never seen so far, and a smooth fps rate that made me tickle only on the rare occasion where maybe a little bit too much objects appear on screen (only a minor percentage of the time).
A RPG type space-ship themed game complete with complex yet easy-to-understand combat, economics, and tactics. Control your customizable space ship class modeled after the traditional ship types (destroyers, cruisers, etc) and remodel the best loadout for your preferred playstyle. A wide variety of side missions and exploration bonuses reward those willing to spend time to strengthen their ships outside of the main campaign missions, and the factions you choose to ally with will play a key part in future gameplay, yet opportunities to change their allegiances always abound.
Somewhat overwhelming for new players due to its vast scope, this game offers space-ship combat against all types of foes in a simple yet complex layer of fighting. Equip different weapons and boosts to punch through those primary shields and damage the vulnerable hulls of your enemies. Build a robust economy by engaging in a number of different financial transactions, ranging from mining asteroids, salvaging floating loot, or obliterating bounties, and use those funds to further upgrade your ship. There are only 3 group factions you should try to be friendly with: Citizenry, Militia, and Red Devil Pirates, although the latter two are at odds with each other.
This game offers beautiful lighting, combat effects, and background imagery, especially given that it's not as complex as other triple AAA games out there. A wide variety of sound effects assist in immersing your gaming experience in the vast beyond, and a keen ear is required to pick up every opportunity that arises. However, this game truly shines during its combat phases, and simply watching the space battles can prove entertaining enough - just watching the title screen offers a rare occurrence of actual in-game footage without embellishment, and is beautiful in of itself; its practically a movie. Despite not being a big title game, the amount of detail in nearly all aspects of gameplay, such as enemy behaviors and spawn locations is staggering, and definitely deserves its own separate shout out, and the detailed gamer will be sure to appreciate their presence.
As with most games nowadays, I highly recommend people to have temperature monitoring and temperature control via throttling to prevent overheating. I use "Core Temp" and "Throttle Stop" myself, and despite energy reduction, I have never once experienced a crash in my game. This engine is exceedingly stable, and even the super rare lag spike occurrence never lasts for more than 1 second, often due to a sudden appearance of multiple enemies. Load times are also quite short, with only one initial load screen at the beginning of the game boot, lasting ~3 seconds or so.
As mentioned previously, this game can be quite overwhelming for new players, as they discover that they need to use a large portion of their keyboard quite often. Players can become lost on how to access certain menu options, such as viewing faction relationships and ship status in addition to learning all the different options and customizables this game has to offer. Players will also discover that the game follows where your camera is pointing and not necessarily where your ship is pointing (for example, if your ship is near and pointing towards a space station, you can't dock unless you turn your camera to look at the station), and this may serve to be confusing and disjointed for some. One particular annoyance is the space travel, where your vehicle is automatically dropped out of warp when you run near some random rock that won't even hit your ship because it's slightly above or below it, but the game deems it as a proximity hazard; this often forces people to warp in and out of space repeatedly, and while factually accurate, gameplay wise it is somewhat tiresome. Although I previously praised the AI behavior, certain 'escort' missions can prove exceedingly annoying to accomplish, as 'friendly' allies conduct their business with room temperature IQ, such as flying their lone ship into a blockade when they're supposed to be going THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION (nevertheless, I digress). "Grinding" or "farming", while not a big issue, is still a requirement, and some individuals may not be so invested in pursing the unlimited side missions this game has to offer, especially when the defining trait of a ship is the equipment it carries and not necessarily the ship itself.
All in all, a beautiful, detailed, and exceedingly stable game with complex yet simultaneously simple to perform gameplay. For those looking for a space ship themed game without the massive middle finger of PvP centered guilds, where you're always limited due to what your clan or an opponent's clan allows you to do, this game is a nice alternative. Definitely give this a try, and for its low price of $10(?), this 'indie' game is more than worth its weight; once again, a shout out to its developers, because this is NOT a triple AAA game, yet in terms of a game's core mechanics, this game pulls through in spades. Highly recommend!

Great Game for a 8 year old game hours of fun
The mechanics are dorky, the dialoge seemse like its written by a child but the story is fun and there are at times some very frustrating parts. I originally played and beat this game on ps4, the pc verision is no different. It is a good game, solid controls, wish there was a bit more to custimize ships but ill take it.
If you want to pretend you're a 2D space pirate, this is the game for you. If you want 3D combat go elsewhere. I still had fun with this game, "let's see how cold space is, cutter!".
I've been playing computer video games since 1984 (Commodore 64) and console games since 1983. This is one of the best solo space adventure games ever made, across any category of analysis. As a flight game, its controls are not too difficult or too simple (neither too "simulation" nor too "arcade"). As an adventure game, the story line and the side quests are engaging. The dialogue is entertaining. As for ambiance, the visuals and the sounds are top notch. As you fly through space, all the locations are interesting, beautiful, and compelling. The choice of outlaw blues for the soundtrack was brilliant. Very few games achieve the level of audio continuity that Rebel Galaxy does. The ship-upgrading system is fun. The pick-up-and-deliver features of the game are also fun. The missions are challenging as you advance, but not so challenging that you feel like you're grinding forever. And finally, the battle mechanisms are just perfect. I remain impressed that one can essentially fly a space version of the ship of the line and rotate the camera mid-battle to fire broadsides with accuracy.
It took me 10 minutes to request a refund. A space game with no Z-axis control is not a space game.

If you go somewhere with ‘risk low’ you get blown up asap. Makes no sense.
Also the music grates on you quickly.

I don't claim to be the most patient man in the world, but this game is only somewhat fun if you use a money hack, otherwise it is so boring that I find myself almost falling asleep, nice music though.
Fun game had a lot of fun for the 20+hours that iv'e played. Before the save system deleted all 20 hours of progress.
Brutal. Wasn't even worth the hard drive space.
Remember Freelancer? It's like that, but with less gameplay.
Best OST since Firefly. Truly an entertaining pirate space genre that seems inspired by the Wing Commander: Privateer games.

This is one of my childhood games. Seeing it on sale for $2 was pretty nice. This review is probably biased.

PROS:
+ Runs well on most computers.
+ Music is a shake-up; instead of standard synth or techno, you get rock and DnB.
+ Really nice Space Western-style atmosphere, akin to classics like Cowboy Bebop.
+ Has everything a space sim needs: combat, piracy, factions, trading, exploration, a nice ship selection, guilds, the works.
= Graphics are okay. It's from 2014, can't expect much.
= Story is okay.
CONS:
- Getting started is rough if you're new.
- Limited movement; no moving up or down. Those darn Militia probably wrote up some law about it.
- NPCs outside of the main story are pretty cookie-cutter, you see the same faces and voices a lot.
- Limited customization: you can't change the color of your ship, but at least you can change her name.
