I’m quite the fan of Lara Croft and her various globe trotting escapades.
I think I’ve played all of her mainline adventures including her two top down co-op experiences.
This game has a lot to recommend it: 4 player co-op, beautiful graphics, and great level design. However there are a number of issues that bring down the experience and lead to enormous frustration.
When playing co-op with a friend I’ve found that even though we collected the items together, next time we revisit the location the items show on my screen and not his. Reversed when I host. The camera also leaves a lot to be desired. What should be simple straight forward jumps often end in disaster.
The game has a lot of jank as well, lots of glitches where you find yourself fighting the controls or the weird hiccups such as when using Lara’s grapple. Other times my friend and I would literally be perceiving different things on the screen at the same time together. You try playing co-op under those trying circumstances! It’s a miracle that we were able to 100% the game together and have our friendship survive. Or maybe it’s just a testament to our single minded bloody determination? 😄
There is a great game here, it’s just buried beneath a thick coat of jank. If only the developers had spent a little longer polishing the game it could have been a real winner. The difference between a good game and a bad game is often only 10% extra polish.
6/10
Oh man, what a terrible game. Shout out to my friend Citizen Cook for sitting through this rough game and even getting the 100% with me. First off, the camera was terrible. Whenever you would make the simplest of jumps, the camera would decide to screw you over, ending up with multiple deaths in what should be a simple tomb. The next is the loads of glitches. The amount of glitches, especially when going for the challenges in some of these tombs was insane. The number of instances of Isis looking weird going across a tightrope, or Lara glitching into the spikes was terrible. The final is the challenges themselves. None of were too particularly hard, but these time ones were the most frustrating off them all. The amount of stress my friend and I endured just because the combination of the glitches and the camera. Overall, I think this is a good game, but could use some much needed polish that could make this game more bearable to play.
This Game is a kaizo This Game Has input lag and a whole f*****g lot of Issues and the gane Is A Piece Of S**t
Where do I start? I had high hopes for this game after I played Guardian of Light, which was a very fun and engaging game, but this game is anything but. To start off, the graphics look good, but the optimisation is terrible. Even with modern hardware and all the settings on their lowest options I only managed about 35-40 fps, which is just unacceptable. Second, the movement feels clunky. This issue is probably exacerbated by the low fps, but it just does not feel smooth at all, with noticeable input lag. This makes some levels where precision is required very frustrating. Finally, the controls for this game are worse than those for Guardian of Light. Why did they change them? They were good and intuitive to use once you knew them, and nothing was added that warranted the change in control scheme. Just don't bother with this game.

Trash game ,stay away. save your money. the developers should be ashamed of themselves
for releasing a game like this.
What we have here is a yet another tomb raider game that doesn't know exactly what it want's to be, imagine that.
ToO is worse than GoL in a few ways, namely it's pacing and heavy emphasis on repetitive puzzles. while GoL had a light dusting of co-op puzzles that I thought were quite fun, this game lays way too heavy into them, likely in an attempt to make it feel "more like tomb raider."
I say these games should have went with the fast paced dual stick shooter co-op approach instead, because when it does, it can be quite entertaining.
The variety of weapons and amulets you can get and the random nature in which they drop from chests that each player can claim and own as individual rewards feels nice, it can add some diversity in playstyles and a light competitive aspect as you scramble to beat your teammates to grab all the gems to get the best gear at the end of a tomb.
that is when the online works properly anyway, still a host of performance issues especially on the PC version.
I'd say stick to the first game if your interested in this kind of thing.
Simple plain fun. Good for a group
Honestly, the first game is better. The looting system in this game is more punishing than the first. The hub area is unnecessary and very big. Plus, I think the spear added more to the puzzles than this staff.
However, it does add elemental versions of some weapons, including the dual pistols, and these elemental guns are more useful than the ones in the more recent Borderlands games. Also, this game is still more like the original Tomb Raider than the newer series. I just recommend the Temple of Light a lot more than this game.
game keeps crashing.
overlay doesnt even work.
and im gonna refund this. how did square eff up this hard?
it even broke my friends audio setup :(
Starts off fairly well, it's well paced, the controls are good, the story is silly but fun. Then quickly the game introduces some really obnoxious puzzles; the type of ones that are easy to figure out, but annoying to complete?
I quit it when the game presented me with a puzzle that involves moving a mirror to reflect a beam, but the mirror doesn't have any hints as to where the beam will end unless you shoot it with your beam, so you have to keep moving it and retesting every single time... the angle of the mirror also doesn't work like you would expect; so the whole puzzle instead of being engaging, or challenging, ends up being tedious and annoying.
Saddest thing is this got preceded by a very obnoxious sequence where you have to keep jumping on platforms where enemies can knock you off and... it just feels as if the devs tried to add difficulty by making the game annoying, more than trying to figure out how to make the game fun and still make it challenging. Like at the beginning you even get a ring, it's a system where you can equip rings to give yourself boosts, but each of the boosts comes with a tradeoff, so it's like: this ring gives you damage, but it takes away defense -it's all done in very vague and ambiguous terms, so you're never really sure how much defense or damage your getting-, after equipping this ring though? I kept dying and enemies kept taking measly damage.
That's another issue, the darn enemies take way too many hits to go down, as you progress you get more weapons, but they all seem to hit the same way? Like maybe the shotgun does a bit more damage, but that's it... it's never so significant as to be meaningful in any way.
I don't know, I just think it's a game that whenever it stays true to some of its basic ideas is good, but when it doesn't -and this happens as you progress- it starts being too ambitious for its own good.
The game also doesn't have any sort of difficulty settings or anything like that, so independently if you wanted to make it easier or more difficult, you really don't get a saying in the matter. Shame.
great multi-player game!
So I don't know why people are not recommending the game, or as it stands, it's on mixed both All Reviews and Recent, but I think the game is a really great co-op experience.
So the game is on the short side, but with the amount of discounts this game gets, it's really not that bad how cheap you can get it especially for what's being offered here. Yes, this game is short but what it offers on the variety and fun you can have with nearly all ages, as well as having 4 couch co-op feature, it's really amazing.
The game play is fluid and all characters are different personalities that you can always find someone you like to play as. The puzzles are also on the easier side but there are some ones that really make you think, not like brute forcing a solution, some do require thinking. It looks presentable, nothing that will change the world but it really does look nice, and the combat also feels nice and responsive with not much unfairness going on. The platforming also can be clunky sometimes but more often it's really tight and precise, I may even say forgiving which adds even more to the point of playing this game with someone who isn't that into video games like a significant other or a young sibling, or siblings as mentioned that it has 4 player co-op.
It feels like a game from the past without too much bloat and it knew what it wanted to be and did it. I recommend it especially if it's cheap enough.
Before you read this review I want you to know that I played this alone. Is it better with friends? Probably. But just understand that this is from the perspective of someone who wasn't able to do everything. So, let's start.
This is by far the hardest I've ever had to push myself to finish a game! Not because it's difficult (it's really easy), but because of how boring it is. Literally 99,99% of the puzzles are solved by you pressing a button, holding LT or rolling a ball. Sometimes even combined.
The first game wasn't very difficult either, but it still made you use a couple of brain-cells. In this game however, I had to use my brain for one (1!) puzzle. That's it!
But hey, maybe the progression is alright? It is the most bland progression I've ever seen. You never unlock any new abilities. The only thing you unlock is weapons and rings that give you some buffs and debuffs. Sure, you do unlock some amulets that give you some extra effects when you have a combo going, but these usually never affect how you play. And if you get the fire-effect you can even bypass some of the puzzles (that is a positive though. I like that there was more than one solution).
This is honestly just a worse version of the first game. Sure the open world was a little more interesting that the menu from the first game, but as most other things in this game are boring, it didn't save it.
In short: If you want a Tomb Raider top-down co-op game, get the first one (Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light).
If you're still reading this, I guess I can't save you anymore. But I can at least help you with some trouble-shooting. If the game crashes as soon as you get to the menu, you need to disable some cores. I had to go all the way down to 8 cores before I could play.
Pretty pleased with it so far, playing with wife and kid and its a good laugh. Some really nice graphical touches as well
I found the annoyance to outweigh the good.
Not as good as the first, does some things better, some things worse. But again needs fiddling to work (If you have a 13900k) - Go into Task Manager and before game boots up, remove 1 core and it works fine.
