Autocraft

i dunno man.

its a simple and fun sandbox game, has not been updated though in a bit and lacks some features that are present in other games of a similar style.

It was honestly a bit emotional coming back to pc gaming and finding this game from my old library. I enjoyed this game a TON when I was a kid, and I owe a lot of my creativity today to the awakening that this game was for me.

This is the first review in over a month. This game has been abandoned entirely. No players, no support from developers. really is quite sad to see this just slowly die out because autocraft had MASSIVE potential. if you want to have fun by yourself, you can play this for however long it lasts you. it's worth it, but note the fact that you are the only person in the entire world playing the game.

Game unfortunately is dead in it's current state. It isn't a bad game, just kinda boring with very little hope if any for additional updates.

I have to admit, Mattshea inspired me to buy this, but now it just fills space in my library. I love destruction, and the nukes are fun. But, it's been 2 years and nothing has come out, no changing workshop creations, and nobody is playing it on the steam charts. Could I have been one of the only players when I did last year? I'm not sure.

Autocraft have you building "moon rovers" for explorers on foreign moons and rocks. But the lack of playback control and stress analysis that were available in similar builder type games made it rather frustrating to play.

Autocraft differs slightly from the regular formula in that you are allowed to control your craft in some instances. And timing the thrusters or steering can have a major effect on achieving the goal or not. Basically, you need to build a vehicle that can survive from point A to point B, and in between are hills and valleys and even a few jumps, or curves, and more. And there in lies the problem.

The initial parts you have are limited to weak stress only. Even the stress of changing slope can destroy your rover. But there may be ways to mitigate that. Furthermore, the objective is to deliver the astronaut to the destination... It did not specify the vehicle had to be intact (though it could be one of the secondary objectives). So perhaps, for one of those with a ridiculously short time limit, like 4.5 seconds the trick may be NOT to touch the ground at all...

While others are VERY dependent on your input, like the one where you need to take your rover around a corner perfectly in order to beat the required time of 14 seconds.

The puzzles are varied, even on the first "planet" and may require some serious out-of-the-box thinking.

So what's the problem? The darn camera and replay system.

The camera is near impossible to set properly. It doesn't "stay" at the angle specified. The result is you are constantly forced to readjust the camera, even while you are controlling the vehicle!

Second problem is the practically useless "playback speed" slider. Since you have to steer and/ior provide other input, you have to keep the playback set to 100%. Then you can set it slower, but the timer is not affected, for missions that asks for travel under a certain amount, like under 4.5 seconds. Setting the slider to slower does not affect the input. But if you want a slow-motion playthru, you have to start the playback, THEN change speed. That means finding the weakspot and reinforcing it is VERY slow process as you have to fight the camera and playback each time.

After a while, the tediousness won.

This game has a lot of potential but falls short numerous times on the mechanics which makes me unable to recommend it.

Take for example the slow motion feature which is implemented in such a way that with the same amount of fuel you can travel much much further depending on how much you want to slow down time. This means when you would normally need something like 2000 litres of fuel to reach the end you can do with just 500 litres if you play with the slow down time feature to the slowest option.

Also at random points during slow motion I would find that my fuel would not go down and I would not get any thrust yet I was holding down the thrust button and there were flames coming out of the thrusters (this continued even after I let go and press down again). At this point I was forced to reset and hope next time the same thing didn't happen or just play with slow motion off which ruins part of what makes this game unique. Also it is incredibly easy to fall though the ground if your going reasonably fast. As well as that I've had the game crash on me several occasions all of which have happened on "Astro lander" on the second planet.

The sandbox mode is fun but could be made better if co-op was added since there is such a big emphasis on weapons and ways to destroy things it would be great to use them against each other or to be able to help each other collect the stars around the map.

As for the good:

-The developer behind it seems very promising and I wouldn't be surprised to see him fix many of the issues listed above and maybe even adding suggestions others and I have had.

-The game has a very fair amount of content for the price so I doubt you'd feel ripped off for the price you'll pay (£6.99 is the standard price as of the day this review was put up).

-It has a great community of people who create really creative and different vehicles which is super easy to download for yourself to use.

However, as of today I personally feel as though this game is still in early access because of the numerous mechanical flaws. Hopefully one day I can update this review once the issues have been ironed out.

I don't know how I feel about this game.

The tutorials weren't that great, and the items that you have access to are inconsistent.

The game was really hard for me to get into. I find this really disappointing because I love puzzle games, I love building physics games, I love challenging games, I also really love the space theme. But this game just does something wrong with these great concept and they all fall flat creating a confusing, hard to play game.

Doesn’t quite feel user friendly. And hiding extra finer controls for certain blocks and never showing where they are also makes it hard for me to give this game a thumbs up.

Fun, but I feel like other games have come out that are miles ahead of this one. It was a great concept, and while it still is fun... I feel there is much better out there for probably roughly the same price tag.

Good Game, i was suprised by the huge amount of parts. However a few things i have come across in sandbox:
1) Landing gear dont want to retract
2) Cant disable pitch/roll on wings which made it harder to takeoff with a plane
3) i dont seem to be able to get spinners to spin quick enough for a helicopter, they seem to reach a limit which isnt enough
4) Parachutes dont seem to do anything when deployed
If these things were fixed then it would be quite a good sandbox game. if its just me being stupid with the things above and its just me not doing something right please point it out. thanks.

I never really got into this game, despite my 12.4 hours, but now that it's no longer updated I'm more sad than anything, the game had great potential, but it seems the devs gave up on it so it's really not worth buying if you are looking for a finished game, or an active community.

Kind of feels abandoned. The developers don't seem to have been here since April, and reading in the discussion don't really seem to have been much help when they were.

The game is way too broken. The controls don't seem to work well, some not at all.
With the little bit I managed to be able to do my cars wheel got stuck inside a rock.

To me it's not worth the $2.49 I paid.

I was expecting so much more, sadly it's highly repetitive, focuses on a few bells and whistles which aren't even fully useful [nevermind the fact that it's a early access game], tries to create a cartoon like appeal which only makes it look that much more underwhelming, and shows no potential. Especially compared to other simulators out there. This game does not, and I do not expect it to merit costing any money after it passes it's early access stages. If you're looking for something like this, but has so much more, I simply recommend sticking with a studio that has a better reputation and a better game under it's belt such as Space Engineers.

Update:The devs are re-active, the game isn't abandoned!

According to their dev-notes they had to wait for a unity 5 update to allow their physics engine to work correctly, The game is a good game overall, you can have fun with making your own creation, tank to plane.

I strongly reccomend this game.

While it was fun when I was first starting to learn how everything works, later it just becomes like every other "physics"-based puzzle game with repetitive landscapes and the same old requirements to finish each puzzle, just modified slightly.

Apart from the scenery, this game is no different than any of the other games of the same genre. But what disappointed me the most out this was that the game seems to be abandoned, with no new updates for nearly five months.

In all, this game had potential in it's earlier stages, but nothing was done with it and it ended up bland and no different than any other game. If any new updates come out after this review, I will re-evaluate my review accordingly.

Autocraft is a phyics based building game which is currently available in Early Access. In Autocraft's challenge mode you are given objectives to complete on different maps and you must build a vehicle with the parts you are given to complete these objectives. In Sandbox mode you should (I'll come to that later) be able to build any vehicle you could possibly imagine with any of the parts available in the game on one of three maps.

As a huge fan of Bad Piggies on my Tablet (a similar game but in 2D) this game was an instant-buy when I saw it was on sale and I'm quite happy that I picked it up.

+Nice simple art style which suits the game well
+Simple and easy to use UI though it isn't the nicest looking UI around
+Quite a lot of challenges each with it's own map
+A large catalogue of parts each with different pros and cons
+The character looks cool
+You have a speed and time indicator which is useful for completing timed objectives
+Workshop support and there are some really great creations out there

-The game gets updated quite slowly
-Soundtrack and sound effects aren't the best
-Challenge mode gets pretty boring quite quickly

Worth a mention:
-I've been having a lot of trouble downloading workshop items, in fact I can't download them at all but it could just be a problem my end

Autocraft has a fun challenge mode and an enjoyable sandbox mode, a great little game that's great for anyone who enjoys building things

UPDATE: The review below is obsolete. There are still challenges with limited amounts of parts, but the sandbox has been updated SO MUCH MORE. Now with steam workshop support, you can subscribe to people's creations to use them in the sandbox, like Garry's Mod. You can still make your own stuff, though! I am not sure, but I think there is a co-op now that can replace the fact that there wasn't a multiplayer. Now, I give this game a full 10/10!

OLD REVIEW

This game is great. There are challenges for you to solve with limited amounts of parts, and there is a sandbox where you have unlimited amounts of everything (some things you have to unlock). I'd give this game 9/10, because there is no multiplayer. A server where you can invite your friends to battle or race your creations would be awesome.

Remember playing with your legos? Remember how much fun it was to create something, express your creativity and then play with it... This game gives you the same sort of feeling. The updates are pretty frequent and Devs try hard ro make em good. It's well worth the money.

i should admit to feeling a bit biased towards this company, since they made capsized, which is one of my favourite platformers.

The game were you could create your own vehicles, planes, tanks, helicopers and more! Autocraft is a sandbox/physics game, it has 2 modes which is sandbox and challenges mode. Challenges mode allows you to do a challenge were you have to create your own vehicle and try to get to the finish. Sandbox mode allows you to create anything you want (not literally) and you can get multiple parts by completing challenges, including weapons and nuculear bombs. You can also download other peoples creations and im tellin ya, there is alot of creative creations
