Game is pretty good but the dev is kind of a prick

Good game for what it is. I bought it on sale for $5.99 and I'm glad I did b/c I don't think its worth it at it's normal price. The basics are there, its just too low on content for whats being asked for it.
Great game, only gripe is that it's just too short, and the difficulty isn't high enough. Endless mode doesn't add the kind of replayability this needs.
Really wish the hardest difficulty didn't also cut out the larger ships on your side, the big fleet battle spectacle is highly reduced so you have to play on the second hardest for the full experience.
A true gem for anyone who likes atmospheric sci fi games. Playing as the baddies has never felt so fun. I love the music it gets me pumped for every mission. VR compatibility is serviceable and adds some nice replayability.
I got it to play it in VR for some cockpit action...I didn't find the game very fun and is too complicated (fleet organisation? jump from fighter to fighter?) especially in VR too many controls, not hotas friendly, very bland style and gameplay....too bad because it looked pretty interesting and simple in a way.
feels and plays grate, for something simpal its fun. love it
so sick
House Of The Dying sun is THE premier space battle game and you cannot change my mind. I have experienced being outnumbered with one single fighter left, battling on the knife edge of getting my strikes in while avoiding railgun blasts and dodging torpedos by rushing through an enemies shields (destroying said enemy's shields allowing me to destroy that enemy) and more. You can snipe between asteroids, duck between enemy ships as cover from other ships, engage in small fleet combat. The story for what is there is interesting.
Immersive
Amazing Thunderous soundtrack
Tactical but arcadey
Beautiful
Play this game. It is amazing and you will have no reason to uninstall because this entire package is for ONE GIGABYTE.
PLAY IT
fun and underrated
This game really took me back to the classic *X-Wing* days of the '90s. It nails that same feeling of being the underdog—warping in, striking key targets, and making a hasty escape before reinforcements arrive. The gameplay is short and sweet, with a satisfying loop that keeps things engaging. You can complete everything in under 10 hours, making it a great pick for a quick but memorable experience.
Rating: AAA
Honestly this game is amazing. Its Tie fighter from the perspective of a post-loss empire with the vengeful wrath of a WH40K plot. The sound and visual design are simply fantastic. The game is not without it's flaws though:
- Its too damn easy to lose track of who's who. Between the stars and explosion's lights blinding you and being unable to see, to the minimap not discriminating enemy type, nor distance, to the game trying to autolock to the next enemy, its too damn easy to lose track of what's around you and where's THAT FUCKING HEAVY TURRET THAT KEEPS SNIPING YOU FROM AFAR. You can suddenly see your capital ships get massive amount of damage then die, and you will never know exactly why, since the game doesn't tell you who is doing the most damage at the moment, or what kind of enemy is currently targeting the ships, and you just enjoy seeing their life bars deplete and end up without any idea why. If you're the last ship around, the same happens to you.
- After the final fight you get to chose between several "epilogues" depending on the difficulty you played with. I think that's fantastic, I just wish I didn't had to play through the final fight every time I wanted to see a new response and the flavor text that comes with it.
- There are no "upgrades", only sidegrades. Your weaponry unlocked has drawbacks, be it low shield or hull damage, short range, not good against fighters, or not good against big ships, you unlock weapons that don't truly make you feel stronger, and you buy perks that seem nice then you realize that you can only carry a grand total of two. You quickly realize that shields + repair drone is the only combo you need and everything else is situational.
This game is truly fantastic and I do agree that I wish there was more to it. It was a really great experience.
Those heavy turrets can eat my fucking nutsack.
Absolute banger 9/10. Love the grimdark themes. The dog fighting and strategy are both perfect and mesh well together, even using controller. My only reservation is the lack of content (I completed all missions on all difficulties in about 12 hours) - it's not quite worth the full price, but if you can grab it for 50% off then it's 100% worth it.
I'm gutted that there isn't a second game in development.
A Rare Gem in the Ocean of Steam games. Fly mighty star jockies
Short and snappy pew pew
Really fun space shooter. The glimpses of plot are so interesting I wish this game had a sequel. As it is, it's as close a replacement to Wing Commander, which I loved in the 90s, as much as I can get these days ;_;
I've had this in my library for 8 years. I finally got around to playing it.
DO NOT pay full price for this game. It's short, quite shallow and the overall experience is pretty light on in terms of engagement.
HOWEVER. I did still find myself having fun. I LOVE the art style and hints at lore. The dogfights, while not complex are still quite fun and I enjoyed testing out new weapons as I unlocked them.
Buy it, but only on sale! A$29 is a bit steep for this.
The traitor lords must die.
Not recommended if you want VR.
No Mouse/keyboard in VR(mouse is actively disabled by developer).
HOTAS not natively supported.(VR or desktop)
Index controllers not natively supported.
No workshop so no easy binding presets for index controllers or HOTAS.
VR menu is unplesantly close to your face.
VR feels like an half done afterthought implementation.
most other aspects of the game are very well done despite the somewhat short campaign, would recommend without VR.
A short space shooter game that doesn't overstay its welcome. Said game offers higher difficulty for completed missions and has multiple endings. I'd recommend it.
hey, so here's an idea, maybe play a different space sim, so you understand a few things.
Starships can strafe up and down. It isn't a fucking plane, you nonce, and the fact that you're constantly going forwards unless you holding down B is beyond fucking stupid. "TRAITOR FLAGSHIP APPROACHING" wowza, with no fucking time to spare, eh? I guess I'll get fucking railed by heavy fire, because I have no idea where it is, and hiding isn't an option. Let me aim at the tiniest fucking point known to man, and hold down A to wait for a full 30 seconds to leave, which leaves me dead. This game isn't fun, it isn't entertaining, I genuinely would rather stick a cactus up my own ass, I'd be having a thousand times more fun ._.
Not a lot of content presented in a compelling way. Probably not worth the 20 bucks, wait for a sale.
Perfect game, with some really cool lore. Just wish there was more of it.
One of the best space combat flight games.
10/10 would get blown up or crash again
Amazing Game. Buy it and play it.
Short, easy to play starfighter simulator. Expect to finish this in an hour or so if you play it once (you won't).
One of the coolest space shooters, my only regret is that it's too short. It's definitely not worth 20$, but I wish there were more games similar to this out there. Just simple, fast paced shooting without the overwhelming aspects of other sim shooters.
Also, adding VR support was a big move from the devs. Even more chaotic that way.
A short, but highly-polished space sim in which you seek to avenge the murdered Emperor by assassinating his political enemies in gorgeous, well-optimized space battles. It's essentially Warhammer 40,000 without the fantasy parts.
PERDITION TO CONSPIRATORS!
Yeah, na. I've played a LOT of Space Sims going back to the original Elite and Wing Commander and this was the very first one I didn't enjoy. Like at all. Is it still in Beta? Lacking a LOT compared to most Space Combat Sims.
A short but superbly executed game leaving me wanting more which is just fine.
A very cool VR space dogfighting sim with a good flight engine and graphics that, while more simple than many others, somehow suit the game perfectly. I think there is room for further graphical upgrades such as on the asteroids.
Tried playing it in VR - to my surprise, ALL buttons are unbound by default. Had to constantly navigate with a keyboard to set things up, only to realize that the gamepad can't navigate in the menus, so the VR experience, for some reason, had to be a combo of gamepad+keyboard. Kinda incredible, and definitely not for me.
There is some issue on Steam Deck where parts of the ui are extremely pixelated and completely unreadable
It feels nice to play, I really did not understand how to give orders on the rts screen. I just give orders via TAB key to fighters and big ships.
I played around 2 hours and I finished the first system, I do not know how to proceed to next system, I hope there is a next system, please tell me that is not the whole game :), if so this is just demo, if not why am I having difficulty to proceed on the campaign or whaterver.
If this is the game all about, finishes in 2 hours definitly I do not recommend, but if I find a way to proceed more this review will be YES.
Fast paces, fun, short, and sweet. If you like Sci-Fi fighter sims. This is a wonderful little treat.
Great hidden gem. Feels exactly like you're flying a fighter in the middle of a homeworld game.
The vibes are immaculate but somehow the game makes me feel both deaf and blind, despite being neither- there are no subtitles and the HUD is scaled far too low, and the in-game radio completely lacks subtitles, so I don't really know what I'm doing
Controls (mouse and keyboard) are basic and easy to learn. Graphics are good, not Star Citizen standards, but fine for this 2019 title. The music, sounds and space combat give me flash backs of the space combat scenes from the 2003-2009 TV show Battlestar Galactica. For a $5.99 price tag its a nice deal.
Having a great time so far. Really good VR integration, HOTAS is a little bit of a pain to set up but works great once you figure out what buttons to map. You can replay missions as many times as you want on any difficulty setting so you can figure the gameplay out quickly. I wish it had true 6DOF controls but it's made for a controller so I understand why it doesn't.
If you like ace combat sims this game is insanely fun. It's a compact experience to be sure: controls are very simple and intuitive, movement feels really responsive and nimble, and it's excellent fun to blast baddies out of the sky. The strategy component of the game is similar in that regard - shallow, but very engaging. There are a relatively limited number of ways you can load out your ships, and you progress quickly through unlocking these options. Choices of ship weapons and accessories are limited, but loadout choices you make *do* feel really impactful on the scenario. Commanding ships during battle is a little clunky with a gamepad, but i think short of actual flight stick that's prob the best way to play the game. If you choose, you can also load your larger ships with just long-range weaponry and then mostly ignore the RTS component and focus just on first-person combat. I'm not sure this is really how it is meant to be played but people should know it's not imperative for successful completion of the story missions.
Simple mechanics allow for some really fun gameplay maneuvers, like avoiding homing missiles by narrowly dodging through an asteroid belt, or hiding your frigate behind a moon so that when the enemy comes around in orbit they get a surprise broadside. Every mission has *at least* one timer, usually more, so the game has a sense of frantic urgency about it almost all the time which keeps it engaging.
I really wish the developers had made some simple additions to the story and texture of the game - i could see myself playing this for many more hours if there were more depth. As it is i'll occasionally come back to the daily challenge level to put myself on that leaderboard, ace pilot that i am. Today i placed 4th.
Get it on sale and it's a great deal. For full price it is a little bit sparse in terms of total gameplay. But honestly for fans of the genre this is a must-have entry.
This game gives me the same feels as an FPS game like DOOM or Wolfenstein:
every time I die my desire to kill them grows more intense.
Great Game, wish it had mod support.
You know that part in Halo: Reach when you take control of a fighter and dogfight in space? It's that, but a whole game.
Unplayable on steam deck ..
Loading in the tutorial and the game completely freezes after selecting a ship...
Great VR battle experience. You actually get a small fleet and have multi ship engagements thats more than just a bunch of people chasing you that most space fighters do.
Pure Excellence
Possibly the best space combat game I've ever played. The story is dark but fascinating and combines beautifully with the Dune-like atmosphere and brutal gameplay. Nothing feels cooler than hitting the enemy hard and fast (while drifting!), then warping out as the enemy flagship warps in.
"YOU ARE OUTGUNNED." Not for long.
Play in VR for an even cooler experience!
Reminds me a bit of Epic on the old Commodore Amiga and of Starblade in the Arcade - great game, space dogfight sim and a good story. Quite an oldschool feel and
Surprisingly good, despite lackluster store page
Steam was very insistent on showing me this game, but I was ignoring it for a while. Because store page doesnt make game much favour - released in 2016, screenshots with weird yellow locations and weird boxy ships.
But finally it was on a huge sale and I was like - ok, let's try it. And, game is surprisingly cool. Neat gameplay with good meta progression. Apealing setting - I really like that "purge count", "assasinate royal physician" and stuff like that. Pretty easy after some time and some upgrades. And ships are really cool in fact, store page just shows them at weird angles.
The bad thing is bugs - really asinine ones. Most commong are "wrong popup is triggering" and "objective kill is counted twice". Don't ruin gameplay (the latter even helps), but still weird stuff that shoudn't be in ten year old game.
Still, pretty solid pick if you have 10-15 hours to waste.
Terrible ugly blocky relic of games from 20 years ago. VR is absolutely terrible, ship design is awful looking and asteroids consists of about 3 polygons and no textures. This is a demo and should be labeled as such.
The game is such a blast to play; the market needs more games like these, in my opinion. The art style is lovely and the transition from RTS to cockpit view is seamless. I love it so much - I need more games like these.
