House of the Dying Sun is a tactical space shooter that puts you in the cockpit of the Empire's most deadly interceptor and in command of the Harbinger Fleet. Hunt down the enemies of your dying empire and upgrade your warships with new weapons and abilities earned during your campaign of terror.
Key Features:
- Classic Space Sim Combat: Fly from the cockpit of the Executor Mk II with gameplay heavily influenced by the titans of yesteryear
- Take Command: Give orders to any vessel in your fleet from a tactical overview, switch to another fighter, or pause time and carefully consider your next move
- Replayable Scenarios: Choose one of four increasingly-brutal difficulties in each of the 14 campaign scenarios.
- Powerful Upgrades: Complete bonus objectives to earn special fleet upgrades such as the Gap Drive or the Kamikaze Chassis. You'll need these to tackle the most difficult scenarios.
- VR & Monitor Support: House of the Dying Sun was carefully designed for both traditional monitors and VR headsets such as the HTC Vive. It also supports 21:9 displays!

Having a great time so far. Really good VR integration, HOTAS is a little bit of a pain to set up but works great once you figure out what buttons to map. You can replay missions as many times as you want on any difficulty setting so you can figure the gameplay out quickly. I wish it had true 6DOF controls but it's made for a controller so I understand why it doesn't.
If you like ace combat sims this game is insanely fun. It's a compact experience to be sure: controls are very simple and intuitive, movement feels really responsive and nimble, and it's excellent fun to blast baddies out of the sky. The strategy component of the game is similar in that regard - shallow, but very engaging. There are a relatively limited number of ways you can load out your ships, and you progress quickly through unlocking these options. Choices of ship weapons and accessories are limited, but loadout choices you make *do* feel really impactful on the scenario. Commanding ships during battle is a little clunky with a gamepad, but i think short of actual flight stick that's prob the best way to play the game. If you choose, you can also load your larger ships with just long-range weaponry and then mostly ignore the RTS component and focus just on first-person combat. I'm not sure this is really how it is meant to be played but people should know it's not imperative for successful completion of the story missions.
Simple mechanics allow for some really fun gameplay maneuvers, like avoiding homing missiles by narrowly dodging through an asteroid belt, or hiding your frigate behind a moon so that when the enemy comes around in orbit they get a surprise broadside. Every mission has *at least* one timer, usually more, so the game has a sense of frantic urgency about it almost all the time which keeps it engaging.
I really wish the developers had made some simple additions to the story and texture of the game - i could see myself playing this for many more hours if there were more depth. As it is i'll occasionally come back to the daily challenge level to put myself on that leaderboard, ace pilot that i am. Today i placed 4th.
Get it on sale and it's a great deal. For full price it is a little bit sparse in terms of total gameplay. But honestly for fans of the genre this is a must-have entry.
This game gives me the same feels as an FPS game like DOOM or Wolfenstein:
every time I die my desire to kill them grows more intense.
Great Game, wish it had mod support.
You know that part in Halo: Reach when you take control of a fighter and dogfight in space? It's that, but a whole game.
Unplayable on steam deck ..
Loading in the tutorial and the game completely freezes after selecting a ship...
Great VR battle experience. You actually get a small fleet and have multi ship engagements thats more than just a bunch of people chasing you that most space fighters do.
Pure Excellence
Possibly the best space combat game I've ever played. The story is dark but fascinating and combines beautifully with the Dune-like atmosphere and brutal gameplay. Nothing feels cooler than hitting the enemy hard and fast (while drifting!), then warping out as the enemy flagship warps in.
"YOU ARE OUTGUNNED." Not for long.
Play in VR for an even cooler experience!
Reminds me a bit of Epic on the old Commodore Amiga and of Starblade in the Arcade - great game, space dogfight sim and a good story. Quite an oldschool feel and
Surprisingly good, despite lackluster store page
Steam was very insistent on showing me this game, but I was ignoring it for a while. Because store page doesnt make game much favour - released in 2016, screenshots with weird yellow locations and weird boxy ships.
But finally it was on a huge sale and I was like - ok, let's try it. And, game is surprisingly cool. Neat gameplay with good meta progression. Apealing setting - I really like that "purge count", "assasinate royal physician" and stuff like that. Pretty easy after some time and some upgrades. And ships are really cool in fact, store page just shows them at weird angles.
The bad thing is bugs - really asinine ones. Most commong are "wrong popup is triggering" and "objective kill is counted twice". Don't ruin gameplay (the latter even helps), but still weird stuff that shoudn't be in ten year old game.
Still, pretty solid pick if you have 10-15 hours to waste.
Terrible ugly blocky relic of games from 20 years ago. VR is absolutely terrible, ship design is awful looking and asteroids consists of about 3 polygons and no textures. This is a demo and should be labeled as such.
The game is such a blast to play; the market needs more games like these, in my opinion. The art style is lovely and the transition from RTS to cockpit view is seamless. I love it so much - I need more games like these.
Even though this is a short game it is such a fun game, feeling the speed of the fighter makes it so much fun.
Great game although it's quite short, I played it once on Easy for my first run and Harbinger with everything unlocked (plus a bit of idle time and one run of challenge mode). Would highly recommend it on sale, as it was WELL worth the $6 I paid for it.
For me it is better then homeworld 3(i refund it)
One of the most fun games I've played in VR

I just upvoted your game.
FAQ:
- What does this mean?
The amount of review score (points) on your game has increased by one.
- Why did you do this?
There are several reasons I may deem a game to be worthy of positive or neutral score. These include, but are not limited to:
Niceness towards other gamers,
Spreading correct information,
Sarcasm correctly flagged with a /s.
- Am I banned from the Steam?
No - hopefully never. In fact, you should keep making games like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue a downvote, which may put your developing and gaming privileges in jeopardy.
- I don't believe my game deserved an upvote. Can you downvote it?
Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo an upvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of upvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.
[*] How can I keep this happening in the future?
Accept the upvote and move on. But learn from this triumph: your behavior will be tolerated on Steam. I will continue to issue upvotes if you keep your current conduct. Remember: Developing is privilege, not a right.
Fully playable with VR headset and Thrustmaster T1000. You will not want to put this game down. My only complaint with this game is that I can't get more of it. The developer has since moved on to work for a larger studio. The immersion this game provides is unmatched, the environments are beautiful and the gunplay is tight. This game still stands up almost 10 years after release.
I seriously recommend VR to fully appreciate the scale and beauty of the game. It's fine on a monitor but a headset is where this game shines.
Still remembering it fondly eight years later.
A short, arcade-y spaceship shooter game. It gets hard at times, at least till you figure out the optimal loadout and the good strategy that works for a specific mission (the choice is quite limited, so you'll find it if you try a few different approaches). By "short" I mean "less than 10 hours to 100%". Main story can be beaten in around an hour on the first difficulty, afterwards you just replay it at higher difficulties to unlock more stuff. There's also "infinite" mode where you beat waves and try to get as far as possible, with a (daily?) leaderboard. Unfortunately, due to limited content in the game, this mode gets repetitive fast.
Overall, I liked it. It's not groundbreaking, but a nice game to scratch that space battle sim itch.
Wonderful little game. As long as it needs to be.
The best space fighting game that I've played.
Very well done updates - hotas warthog work great and vr works great as well
bought on sale for like 5bux
u cant beat that
It's pretty hard but I think I'm just stupid
A rock-solid space flightsim. Simple, straightforward, but it nails both its presentation and execution. If you like the Homeworld series but wish you could hop into a fighter partway through an engagement, this game is for you.
One last chance to avenge the Emperor!
One of the best space sims ever made
