Rage Runner is an older game from 2014. It's a venerable 10 years old at the time of this review.
It's sold as a "racing" game but this is really more like an endless tunnel runner, you don't have full 6DOF movement, it's very arcadey, and your goal really is to balance how fast you autorun and avoid all the obstacles. Like your usual 2D retro pixel endless runner except in 3D and somehow still not any better.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
We can say with great certainty that this game is not an asset flip. This is because the assets are of such poor quality that no self respecting asset creator or artist would publish them under any circumstances.
Certainly, nobody likes to see asset recycling, stock assets are intended to be used as placeholders until superior assets can be created by the developer, but when we get what's worse than either stock assets being flipped or professional assets, it's a reason for gamers to go out of their way to avoid the product.
The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with.
PC gamers will be insulted by the presence of console peasant children's toy controller prompts, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Rage Runner didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "Check Your Key Binds?!?", for checking the key bindings in the game settings menu, trivial to get, but less than 19 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, even the people who own this game weren't interested in it.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam?
Rage Runner has the almost unethical price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

I recently played Rage Runner and I must say, it is a truly amazing game. The procedurally generated 3D space-scapes are absolutely beautiful and provide a thrilling backdrop for the race. The game has a set of 13 hand-crafted challenges that put my skills to the test and are extremely challenging, yet incredibly addictive. I found myself shouting “just one more try!” every time I lost a race.
The controls are tight and responsive, making it easy to navigate through the race. The level of the day and unlockable ships add an extra layer of excitement and keep the game fresh. The level editor is a great touch, allowing players to create their own levels and share them with the community. The soundtrack is also fantastic, adding to the overall atmosphere of the game.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend Rage Runner to anyone looking for a fast-paced, challenging and entertaining racing game. The game has a great blend of sci-fi, action and simulation that makes it stand out from other 3D racers. With 57 Steam achievements, 19 Steam leaderboards and 100,000,000 procedurally generated levels, there's always something new to explore and experience.
The game is cheap but not fun in all honesty... so I guess the name "Rage Runner" fits it well.
First after lagging your computer before launch the game runs pretty smoothly and no tweaking is needed (not that you have many graphical options to tweak...).
There are a few game modes and maybe 2 of these you will find interesting, the endless asteroid dodging simulator that is the "Endless Mode" and the non-practical "Practice Mode".
Practice Mode is the most enjoyable experience that the game can offer you, however it is frustrating, misleading and lacking player guideance...
There is the option to "Joyride" in Endless mode but that doesn't really fit into this type of game if you ask me.
If anything, this game offers you mild enjoyment and the feeling of accomplishement with its kick-ass soundtrack and the few levels you can complete while feeling like a badass space pilot.

I do not recommend this game at the current stage of development since it is really unpolished.
To put it bluntly: There's little reason to play this game for more than a few minutes to get the full experience. You are a space craft in a constant forward run attempting to avoid objects. Any crash and you restart. The game has two modes: "Endless" and "Practice." Oddly, Practice is the actual game, or at least what you can consider a game as it has multiple levels and some manner of objective to the courses. Endless is as it sounds, a simple straight track that goes for as long as you can stay alive. In either respect, it becomes quite repetative very quickly. Endless is filled with asteroids and debris along a straight corridor, and Practice is a series of runs through various obstacle courses. The only appeals for this, for me, were the possibilities of variation, something that would make each play through feel like a genuine challenge. Instead, it comes off flat and rather monotonous. The music is fine enough, and the controls are good enough to fly with, but overall the polish of the game is lacking. There also seems to be no further support on this game since it's release, meaning that while there is a large screen in the Game Select Menu for multiple other modes, nothing has been added to it to bring anyone back.
Long and Short, even on sale, save your money on Rage Runner.

In all seriousness though, its a great game. :P Level design makes the levels very challenging and even if you complete the levels you have others to compete with for score on the Online Leaderboards. Is it an original game? No. Is it well executed? Yes. It offers a unique enough experience to stand on its own with the use of power-ups and thrusting to give it more variety and allow for great speedruns. :D
Worth a buy if you are into your competitive running games. Only thing this game needs is a Level Editor (ship editor would be nice too) and it would be just that much better. Better graphics maybe too, but they are functional and not too bad. :)

Rage Runner takes the ever addictive "one more try" genre of obstacle dodging games made popular by previous titles such as Race the Sun, Avoid, or T.E.C 3001 and gives it more direction by ditching the abstract themes in favor of a more concrete sci-fi setting. In a way, the trench-running pillar-dodging style here is extremely reminiscent of the Death Star section of the '83 Atari Star Wars arcade game, one of the best arcade games of all time.
You'll find all the usual factors of a great dodge'emup here including very simple and easy to get into gameplay and controls that are exceedingly hard to master, and meticulously designed levels that are meant to push you to the edge and keep you retrying on that one seemingly impossible bit.
What's different here are a number of advanced moves you can use to alter your ship in a number of ways such as rolling sideways to make it through tight fits or slowing down to let traps move out of your way. These add way deeper mechanics than seen in any other game like this, and need to be mastered in order to perfect levels. Merely running through the later levels will not be an easy task, as you'll have to employ every one of these maneuvers in order to make it without crashing. Even moreso if you want a comfortable spot on the leaderboards.
This is very well-made, looks and sounds great (seriously, the music is really cool) and includes all of the bells and whistles you would want for a Steam release including achievements, leaderboards, trading cards, and the very active developers are even considering Workshop support with a level editor which would add even more depth and replayability to this already fun as hell title.
At $5, this is pretty much a must for any arcade gaming fan's library.
