[b] [Title: "Jinx Reviews Twin Sector with Gaige, Juri Han, Jade, and Miss Fortune"]
Gaige: Hey, Jinx! So I heard you've been playing "Twin Sector." It’s got telekinetic gloves, puzzles, and... well, some chaos. What's your take on it? 🌪️🧡
Jinx: Hey, Gaige! Oh, it's a total blast. You wake up from cryosleep and you're like, "Did I party too hard last night?" But instead of coffee, you get these awesome gloves that let you throw stuff around. Which is perfect for someone like me. 😉💣💙
Juri Han: Sounds like my kind of party. So, do these gloves really let you go wild, or are they more like training wheels? 😏💜
Jinx: Oh, they let you go wild. You move a box, and sometimes it launches across the room at Mach speed. 📦💨 The laws of physics? Pfft, who needs 'em? It's all about chaos and destruction! Plus, you never know if you're going to solve the puzzle or end up creating a new one. You should totally try it. 😉
Miss Fortune: Sounds fun! I like a bit of chaos myself. So, Jinx, how do you handle the glitches? I heard this game has a ton of them. ❤️🔫
Jinx: The glitches are like an adventure in themselves. One minute you're solving a puzzle, the next you're falling through the map into the void. 🌌 Keeps you on your toes, you know? You never know if you're gonna complete the game or find a whole new world of bugs. It's kinda thrilling! 😈💙
Jade: Glitches and chaos? Now that's my kind of fun. What's the story like? Is it compelling, or do you end up just wandering around? 💚
Jinx: A bit of both, honestly. It's got this "evil AI" vibe, which is super cool. But sometimes it's like, "Where's the map?" You end up wandering, hoping you don’t fall through a trapdoor. But a little chaos never hurt anyone, right? Especially when you've got telekinetic gloves. 😜💙
Juri Han: So, tell me, Jinx, I heard there's some tasteful nude art made to promote the game. What's up with that? 🎨💜
Jinx: Yeah, the developers really went for it. It's like, "Solve this puzzle, and here's some art to keep things interesting." Keeps you guessing, you know? Adds a bit of flair to the game's promo material. 🔥💙
Miss Fortune: Now that's intriguing! A little spice never hurt anyone. If that's what it takes to get people's attention, I'm all for it. So, Jinx, got any final thoughts on "Twin Sector"? ❤️🔫
Jinx: If you like chaos, glitches, and a bit of surprise art in the promos, "Twin Sector" is your game. Just make sure to save often, because you never know when the game might glitch out. And watch out for flying doors—they've got a mind of their own. 🚪💨💙
Gaige: Thanks, Jinx! If you need a co-op partner, you know where to find me. 😏🧡
Jinx: Oh, for sure! You bring the coffee, I'll bring the fireworks. Deal? ☕💣💙
Juri Han: Sounds like my kind of night. Count me in if there's chaos and a bit of trouble. 🔥💜
Jade: Oh, I'm always down for a little adventure. You know, exploring new places, solving puzzles, maybe finding a few surprises along the way. 😉💚
Miss Fortune: I don't usually play puzzle games, but I might make an exception for this one. Just let me know if you need some backup. ❤️🔫
Jinx: You got it! Let's break some rules and make some noise! 🎉💙

Irish Blue - Flip N Fill Featuring Junior (RIP)
You said that glitches could be fixed
You said just reload and give it a mix
Though your game was full of bugs
All those errors and those tugs
I keep falling through the floor
Why can't I just find a door?
Here I am with frozen screens
Wondering what the heck this means
Break away from puzzles that don't work
Like the developers went berserk
You can't run the game much more
It's like a fever dream
[Refrain:]
Cage controls are the things that blow my mind
Every door has got a mind of its own, it drives me wild
Cage controls make me feel like I'm in the past
How could I survive another level, just hope it's not my last?
Cage controls are the things that blow my mind
I can't erase the loading screen
Though I tried just to keep it clean
Every time it starts to freeze
I keep hearing distant screams
My heart still yearns for a fix
But they left me in this mix
Though they said that they had patched
Why do I still keep getting glitched?
Break away from physics that just fail
Like I'm playing on a rusty rail
You can't run this game no more
Wont you hear me scream?
[Refrain:]
Cage controls are the things that blow my mind
Every box that I try to move seems to float on by
Cage controls make me feel like I'm in a cage
How could I survive another minute, when I'm stuck on this stage?
Without you to patch the game
Yeah, without you to patch the game
Cage controls are the thing
That makes me lose my brain
[hr]
In a cryo-sleep chamber, I start my strange quest,
With telekinetic gloves, I'm put to the test.
I push and I pull to get through this maze,
But glitches and bugs are causing delays.
The story is vague, and the path isn't clear,
I might fall through the floor or get trapped somewhere.
The AI's a menace, my surroundings are tense,
What game am I in, with chaos immense?
What am I?
Played through the game twice. It is fascinating but sometimes really unforgiving and frustrating. I know the game is older and not sure if there will be updates but here's what I'd recommend:
- A setting for unlimited glove power
- A setting for less enemies (drones, orbs, lasers, turrets)
- A workshop / Editor for custom levels
I'd recommend this game for
- hardcore gamers who don't get easily frustrated for trying over and over after a failed scenario
- if so, maybe buy the game when it's on sale
Portal, Antichamber and Talos Principle are all just better puzzle games in terms of puzzles, graphics and story. This game has like 2 good ideas and then a bunch of filler.
Overall this is not a horrible game.
The mechanics of the game are simple enough to learn, be nice if things charged up quicker, easier. Some of elements can be confusing sometimes as to how to proceed in the levels - sometimes taking stuff from previous levels is a good idea.
YOU will most likely get frustrated at times.
Game does havee the usually F5/F9 for quicksave/reload - pretty handy.
Best time to buy? please buy it on sale or as long its under $10.
So, i wouldn't call this a good game, but also not a bad game.
The puzzles aren't too complicated and only really the turrets are a big fuck you to the player, but only sometimes.
you might die a lot at portions, but who wants a game where you can just breeze through.
People compare it to portal, but apart from both being about solving puzzles and surviving, i would't really compare them.
I'm pretty sure they too inspiration from portal though (if you get this game, you know why)
I enjoyed it, despite the frustrating moments and the shitty movement scheme (no sprinting and forward is the only fast way to move)
Some tips though:
your gloves don't reach into infinity. if you're aiming at something too far away it won't work (notice the cross hair)
When a terminal doesn't tell you it's not working, you might have to hold the activation button. The game doesn't tell you about this.
Don't be afraid to think outside the box. Some portions can be solved without doing it the intended way, luckily it's usually the ones you want to skip too.
It feels a little like portal but with push & pull one click pulls the other pushes. You can tell it's from a small dev, as it loads excruciatingly slow. The Menus are fairly bad taking you to the main menu where while playing a game you don't expect to see "new game" or "load game" but you expect "resume". I think the idea is fine, the execution is lacking.
Twin Sector is a hard game to thumbs down because the premise of "Portal but with the Gravity Gun from Half-Life 2 instead of a Portal Gun" is good and there are some puzzles that use it well, but it's just too clunky to wholeheartedly recommend. This was really the first of the Portal clones and after the original came out I was desperate for anything with a similar style. Where Twin Sector really falls down is that the timings needed to pull off a solution successfully are often very precise and hand be somewhat haphazard depending on certain random elements. It is incredibly frustrating to know the solution to a puzzle, but have to try it again and again because your timing was just a millisecond off. The physics for pickup up and throwing objects are really not good and fighting the turrets you come across is mostly a game of "throw stuff at it over and over again until it breaks".
And that's a shame because near the end the puzzles got a bit better and as things got closer to the ending I did find myself legitimately getting invested in the story and characters despite largely being a more serious near beat-for-beat retelling of Portal. The atmosphere and aesthetics are interesting and the game does have an intriguing vibe. It's almost a hidden gem and when it works you think "ah, this is kinda neat" but it's just not consistent or smooth enough to make the frustration worth it. If we were still in the late 2000's with only Portal for our first-person physics puzzling fix I would almost recommend this, but with games like Quantum Conundrum and Q.U.B.E providing more polished alternatives I can really only say it's worth a try for the very curious or ardent genre completionists. I would love to see a more refined game that uses this same mechanic but until then Twin Sector is more of a curiousity than anything else.
I had forgotten about this game because it always ran like garbage as long as I've had it. I decided to try installing it again and it finally gets above 5 FPS! Unfortunately, after playing it for about 10 minutes, it turns out it's garbage and the game is broken. Maybe some day it could be remake in a better engine and be a decent puzzle game. But as it is, it's just awful trash.
Millennia ago, before the advent of Steam Greenlight or even user reviews, it was rare to find a title on the platform that was just outright bad. There was a small selection of underwhelming titles to be had, though, and Twin Sector could always be found circling the drain of that particular tub. I never knew why or even what it was really about, other than being a first-person puzzle game akin to Portal. A small part of me held out hope that it was just misunderstood or interestingly flawed (I foolishly hold this hope for all of Steam's Weeklong Deal underclass). Now that I've spent some time with it I understand exactly why it has the reputation it does, and why I can tell you to stay the hell away from it.
Twin Sector casts you as Ashley Simms, a lumpy Poser vixen that just happens to be cool and good at everything, from professional sports to saving orphans. The six and a half minute cutscene the game opens with has her being fawned over by some future space military before being shipped off to cryosleep in a station orbiting Earth to wait out the end of global warming or whatever other MAN-MADE disaster boned the planet. She awakens face-first on the floor, suffering from plot amnesia that the station's gormless AI is happy to selectively fill her in on. The place is falling apart and she just happens to be up and about, so get ready to flip a lot of switches in inexplicable positions.
"Gormless", by the way, is an adjective that describes something "lacking intelligence" and also happens to be the perfect descriptor of this game. Twin Sector is ostensibly a puzzle game, equipping you with glowy space gloves that can push or pull things at a distance and expecting you to negotiate puzzle rooms with them. In practice this means three things: Force-jumping up to high ledges, cushioning long falls so falling damage doesn't kill you, and hucking barrels and garbage balls at switches. None of the halls or chambers of Twin Sector present much challenge in sussing out WHAT you have to do or HOW you have to do it, only in getting your stupid gloves to do what you HAVE to do. Puzzles tend to be little more than finding the hatch or pipe or switch you need to get to to proceed, sometimes requiring boxes to block deadly lasers or explosive barrels to break doors with.
I really cannot overstate how dull and unengaging every aspect of Twin Sector is but by God I'm going to try. Every single one of the game's 17 levels is comprised entirely of featureless concrete or featureless metal, with the occasional pipe or fluorescent light to give any sense of immersion. Rooms make absolutely no sense as actual places, with elevator buttons stuck to 20-foot ceilings and computer consoles on ledges with no perceptible access. Your AI assistant guides you through these depthless halls like he's directing a kindergartner, devoid of any sort of identifiable personality. Ashley is no better, giving vacant responses to simple commands and facts. Your movement is slow, your powers are finicky, and the physics are going to be working against you for most of the game.
There is no compelling reason to subject yourself to the vapid puzzles on display here. There's no compelling story to follow, no impressive designs to behold, no environments to marvel at, and no great puzzles to tax your brain. The only thing you'll get more of as you progress is frustration as the puzzles introduce more and more ways to kill you for not doing exactly what you have to do. It's all the more frustrating when the answers are apparent and the execution is what, well, executes you, and that's the case for almost every challenge. Twin Sector has certainly earned its reputation, managing to fail every possible test of quality that a fully-realized game can fail.
Did you enjoy this review? I certainly hope so, and I certainly hope you'll check out more of them at https://goldplatedgames.com/ or on my curation page!
PROS:
This game combines some good physics ideas (although poorly executed).
CONS:
• This game looks horrible.
• Plays horribly
• Voice acting is so bad takes you far from the story andf makes the game very hard to get into.
• The story itself id pretty bad also.
REVIEW:
I was only able to play this game for around 20 minutes as it is so badly made. It seems that every post-Portal physics-based strategy game is the same: there is a few cool physics elements which make the game look interesting, however the game(s) always fall far below the standard that Portal/Portal 2 have given us. To some up If you think this game would appeal to you by all means try it however you are probably better off buying Portal or Portal 2; if you have already tried these there are a few Community-made Portal mods that might appeal to you such as "Thinking with Time Machine" and "Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun testing initiative", the latter of which I haven't yet played (but it looks pretty good).
I would not recommend buying this game, not even if it's on sale.
Twin Sector: Graphics are very Nice, Sounds are good and Music is So So. I found myself wanting to like this game but it is missing something and I'm not sure what that might be without playing it more. It does have a pretty female protagonist Ashley with a cool idea of Glove's that Push or Pull. That remind me of the Portal game's, the dialog was Bad and some of the fall's kill you when it should only hurt or hurt you a little bit. But hey it is a Five buck game that is kind of Fun, at time's. Now down to business I would give Twin Sector a 6 out of 10
This game might get bad reviews, but I really enjoy it and just finished my 2nd play-through of the game.
I think this illustrates that you shouldn't listen to reviews, and try games out for yourself if it looks interesting to you and/or an interesting setting/premise.
Specifically some thing I like about the game:
1) Setting and back story about the "surface going to hell" and humanity waiting it out in cryo tubes
2) Texture work, for 2008 the graphics are pretty nice really imo. People also normally complain about this and it being bland, but I think it fits the feeling, setting, and mood of the game
3) The voice acting, a lot of people give it crap, but I actually like it and think it makes things more believable since they sound like regular people not Hollywood heroes.
4) The characters, I really like Ashley, Kevin, and Oscar are all very well done
Sadly, preconceived notions probably ruin the game for many people, even if they give it a chance they are going into with the view that it will be a bad game, and then of course they self-fulfill that prophecy because of their negative attitude from the start...
Riding on the heels of the portal and the half life games(you can pick up items), here we have a game called Twin Sector. Released in 2009, by german developer Dns, and I believe published by Head Up Games. This game has/had an interesting premise; The earth has fallen to apocalypse, and is not safe yet. You play the character of Ashley Simms, who had been awakend by an AI Overseer, named oscar. Apparently, you are the only human being who has been awakend, as all the other humans have been frozen? hmmmmm, intersting plot, I may add. Believe it or not, I got the game for 99 cents here on Steam. No kidding. I am at the half way point with this one. As I said earlier, this game rides on the heels of Portal and half life, as you can pick up many items in the game, but the game itself gets tedious, really fast. You wear energy gloves in the game, which can save your life by jumping from high places. In the first part of the game, I had to carefully jump onto some pipes, and then jump down using my energy glove at full max, so I would not die, and have to restart the game. There's many puzzles in this game, which is not a bad thing, and you will have to learn to get through them, at times with Oscars Help. The puzzles are ok, but those also can get tedious. Overall, this game as I said had premise, and potential, and while I kind of like it, I can't recommend it to anyone else. If you like these kind of games, then great, if not, there are better games to play. That's it.
It's copycat of "Portal" but not bad at all. It has a lot that resemble to Portal so if you feel like to play puzzle game this is what you are looking for. Ending of this game seems it will be sequel but I don't think developers can make it actually, considering about rating and reviews though.
Riding on the fame of Portal, this game tries to mimic the concept, but due to budget or lack of time to polish fall quite short. The cinematics dated even for it's time and the vioce acting is stiff the least. It has however large maps, challenging puzzles, and a clishe but still interesting story.... And bugs... and crashes.... and unfair difficulty at the end.
Despite all, for me it was a fun little FPS/platformer/puzzle, but only recommend if it's dirt cheap on sale.
There's a reason this game only gets a 49 on the Metascore board. The controls are bad, the dialogue can break glass, the lack of continue points (until WAY later in the game) combined with long loading times between deaths, the annoyingly unforgiving short height in which you can fall to your death, and many other things made this game feel more like a chore to play than an enjoyable experience. To be honest, I'd rather go to work because I'd at least get paid for that. The idea of the game was what enticed me to get it; 2 gloves that control the enviornment by either pushing or pulling stuff or yourself around. But the idea only goes so far and most of the time, doesn't even work properly.
Seriously, a platformer game with massive fall damage. SERIOUSLY.
Post-Portal puzzle game that has an interesting core mechanic but poor design leads to frustrating and boring game.
Definitely an interesting puzzle game. You have two gloves, one pulls objects to you, the other repels them. This sounds simple, and it pretty much is, but learning how to properly use the gloves takes some time. The difficulty of the puzzles increases over the course of the game, and by the end you'll be doing tricks that weren't readily apparent, but it never feels impossible.
The pro's are the neat push-pull mechanic, the often well-designed puzzles, and the fact that some puzzles can be solved in different ways. The con's are that you'll die in seemingly arbitrary ways, the clunky combat, and a forgettable story (Think Glados without any of the charm).
Had this developer had a large enough budget and enough staff, this game could have given Portal a run for its money. Unfortunately, this game doesn't reach its full potential, and I'm really sad that it didn't. It's fun, it's definitely an interesting idea for a game, but it just falls a bit short.
I recommend this game on the basis that you don't go into it expecting something as great as Portal and that you're willing to accept dying often. If you're willing to be patient, this will be a fun way to spend a weekend, just keep your expectations in check.
If there was a title field, I'd to call the review "Prepare to die.recurrent".
Despite some players considering this game a bad copy of Portal, it's not. You don't even have a portal gun! Well, definitely it's poor made. Looks like HL1 age game. With better textures.
But.
It's good game if You like puzzler FPS. This game lacks of balance, and the chance of Your death occurance converge to 1 while You being progress to ending. Mobs will kill You, traps will kill You, You will kill Yourself. So, prepare to die. Make sure You have enough of savepoints. (Maybe this cause of my hand growing from pelvis, but You a definitely 'god' if You can beat it w/o any death from the start.)
Game for 'fans', and for people who know what and why they are doing.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. I repeat do not buy this game. Hell you shuoldnt even be on this page quickly flee this area before this god awful game taints your computer farther.
This game has literally nothing other then a cool concept going for it. The psyh gloves are pretty cool but in no way saves this POS game.
List of What is Wrong With This Game
1. Crap Story
2. Repetitive Puzzles
3. Insane fall damage.(fall 7 feet and you will die)
4. Dated Graphics
5. Horrible Voice Acting.
6. Little to no instruction on how to play what so ever. They teach you movement and how to push/pull objects after that your on your own.
7. Level design is horrible. Dozens of dead end corridors and you will walk up and down the same pointless damn U shaped hallways which serve no purpose other then to stall you for 30+ seconds about 4+ times every level.
8. Constant Load Screens. 15+ second load screens everytime you die.
9. Officially ran out of room to furrther state how horrible this game truly is.
Holiday sale time and Twin Sector is one dollar. The generic looking title, tepid looking screenshots and low metactric score taunted me to play this to see just how bad it is...
In the emerging genre of first-person-puzzlers enters Twin Sector. Sporting a 49 on metacritic, Twin Sector wishes it was Portal, but it's not. Twin Sectors sins are numerous but chief among them is it's lack of inspiration. Filled with flat voice acting, second rate graphics and a theme that's about as generic as you can get Twin Sector simply fails to motivate the player. Twin Sector does pace the mechanics reasonably well but the actual gameplay is average as best. Twin Sector's metactric score is deserved
(Also - this game crashed-to-desktop about every 30 minutes)
A dedicated few say they like this game, but for first-person puzzlers there are better options. Try the Portal games or Anti-Chamber.
Score: 4/10
