One of the 1st games i played when i got my PC very fun and addictive
The artstyle and environment in this game is absolutely stunning.
The characters are also great. This game feels like an adventure out of a movie.
The mechanic you use in this game to move from place to place is also addicting.
This game is a must have! 👍
A fun short platformer. Doesn't overstay it's welcome with a fun lighthearted narrative journey to enjoy.
A Story About My Uncle: Where Swinging Feels Great, But the Story Feels… Meh
Welcome to A Story About My Uncle, the game where you swing through a magical world with a grappling hook, only to realize that the real mystery is why your uncle disappeared in the first place. Spoiler: It’s probably because he got tired of explaining how the grappling hook works.
---
The Good
- Movement is King: The grappling hook mechanics are smooth, satisfying, and make you feel like a parkour pro. Swinging through the air at breakneck speeds is exhilarating, even if you occasionally miss a ledge and plummet to your doom.
- Beautiful World: The environments are stunning. From glowing caves to floating islands, every area feels like it’s straight out of a fantasy novel. It’s like Disneyland, but with more falling.
- Short and Sweet: The game is short enough to finish in one sitting, which is great if you’re looking for a quick adventure. Just don’t expect it to overstay its welcome—because it won’t.
- Nostalgic Vibes: The story is told through the eyes of a child, giving it a whimsical, fairy-tale-like quality. It’s like listening to your grandpa’s tall tales, but with more grappling hooks.
---
The Bad
- Story is Thin: The narrative is… fine. It’s not bad, but it’s not exactly gripping either. You’re basically just chasing your uncle through a magical world, and the payoff feels a bit underwhelming.
- Repetitive Gameplay: The game is all about swinging and platforming, which is fun at first but can get repetitive after a while. If you’re not a fan of precision jumping, this might not be the game for you.
- No Replay Value: Once you’ve finished the story, there’s not much reason to go back. Unless you’re a completionist who wants to collect all the hidden orbs, you’re probably done after one playthrough.
- Short Length: The game is over before you know it. Just when you’re starting to get into the swing of things (pun intended), it ends. It’s like a rollercoaster ride that stops halfway through.
---
The Ugly
- Your Aim: Let’s face it—no matter how good you think you are, you’ll miss that crucial grapple point at least once. And then you’ll fall. And then you’ll do it again.
[*]Your Patience: The game requires precision and timing, which can be frustrating if you’re not in the mood for trial and error. Just remember: it’s not the game’s fault you missed that jump. Probably.

Overall
A Story About My Uncle is a charming, if somewhat shallow, adventure game that’s worth playing for its fantastic movement mechanics and beautiful world. It’s not perfect—the story is forgettable, and the gameplay can get repetitive—but it’s a unique experience that’s worth checking out.
Just don’t be surprised if you finish it and immediately forget what happened.

Playtime: “Enough to make me question my life choices and my grappling hook skills.”
Buy it here if you’re ready to swing through a magical world (and occasionally fall).

Additional Notes
Spoiler: The ending is… fine. It’s not mind-blowing, but it wraps things up nicely. Just don’t expect a plot twist that’ll change your life.
Pro Tip: Take your time with the platforming. Rushing will only lead to frustration (and falling).
gud.
Good memories of this. Great art direction and neet gameplay. Not sure how it would hold up today, but it's probably still a good time and often very cheap.
did i buy this at some point before?
very fun game
Well after, four hours of playing between along three months, this is a good game, I recommend this If you came from work and you're tired and you only want a graphic novel to get relaxed. Story, scenarios and music are peaceful and great. Not much to say, it's good enough.
Great game worth playing
A gorgeous game with a breath taking world, super fun game play, and one of the best narrative experiences out there. Can complete it in less then one night and you wont want your money back.
Great game
The story is good and the difficulty is pretty relaxed. The script and voices are not that great.
A good game, definitely worth buying in such a sale and this game is also very good for kids
After the first few levels I found the game got dull very quickly.
good
this should be better reviewed honestly. It delivers on what it said it was and more. Traversing the world is fun.
Its a nice game with a nice story. its has some levels look really nice. the gameplay is really simple and make you wanna speedrun it. i wish if it was longer but its worth buying it. waiting for a sale would be best
i recommend it
Pretty short game, I recommend getting it on sale if you are gonna get it. I wouldn't say it's worth $15.
The gameplay is kinda fun, but gets repetitive after a while. And the story isn't good in my opinion.
Also, for achievement hunters: There are some achievements where you have to beat the levels in a certain amount of time, and have 0 deaths. So just keep that in mind
I fucking hate this game.
Maddie the most annoying shitty character istg.
fun little platformer
Great game with interesting story, release back then when i was still a child and was watching how some people playing it on youtube. I was dreaming to play this game by myself and it happened. Game tells beatiful story and gameplay also simple and interesting. 100% worth it money
little bit janky in some areas but overall a very fun game. the mechanics are tricky to get used to but i would recommend this game to anyone looking for a family friendly story with (mostly) great visuals
cute story and pretty game, but not fun. didn't even get an achievement for finishing it.
iyi
The first 90 or so minutes of A Story About My Uncle are quite enjoyable. The world is beautiful and the core traversal gameplay is engaging. Completing platforming sections provides a sense of achievement.
The final section of the game, however, if needlessly frustrating. I kept having to look up video guides for these sections, convinced I was heading entirely in the wrong direction, or somehow missing a foothold that I should be using, only to discover that I was a pixel off with my jump or something silly. I'd return to the game, throw myself at the jump dozens and dozens of times, and then occasionally hit the right window. Not my idea of a good time.
the story is great and the movement mechanics are extremely smooth and engaging. the first completion will probably take you about 3 hours, however getting every achievement will take much longer
literally literally literally literally literally literally literally literally literally
amazing game to chill
The platforming starts out fun but gets old quickly. The story seems, at most, only half fleshed out.
I want to preface this by saying I love indies and think they are the lifeblood of modern gaming. I cut them a lot of slack due to the nature of indie development requiring a lot of trial and error and throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. This, in my opinion, is one of the experiments that didn't work out.
First, the gameplay. Indies live and die on gameplay and at the heart of Story is a pretty interesting grappling mechanic that, on it's own, would be kind of fun to play with. The main problem is that it's a 3D puzzle platformer, a genre which was notoriously associated with janky tech demos that slapped a cute anthropomorphic mascot on to them to sell consoles and died when I was about ten. The only relatively modern and successful one that I can immediately think of is Portal. Imagine combining the problems with that kind of movement with Quake-like air strafing and Zelda grappling hook but without the polish of either and you'll have this game.
Everything about the movement of this game is wonky and it's a game where the primary gimmick is based on its movement mechanics. To say it's frustrating is an understatement. And it's not just failing to do the puzzle immediately that's frustrating, it's knowing exactly what you're supposed to do and then doing all the steps to execute it but then missing it by an inch that sucks. I played a loooooooot of Counter Strike: Surf back in the day and Super Meat Boy is one of my faves. I'm used to the idea of having to repeat attempts to nail the landing, but this is something else entirely. The puzzle elements and just plain figuring out where to go kind of ruin it, and I think this mechanic would have best been served by something less puzzle-y and instead should have focused more on flying through the air and hooking yourself through the sky, which is the actual fun part. I like puzzle games. I like platformers. I just don't really care for puzzle platformers.
The second part I want to talk about is the er... story... if you can call it that. The game definitely feels like it started as a puzzle platformer and then did the common indie thing of slapping a story on top of it later as an afterthought. Usually, this is fine as I'm a gameplay first kind of person anyway. I think it's correct that that should be the focus. But the story is so bad and so stuck on trying to force emotions from the player and its own characters that simply aren't there and aren't earned that I can't help but be critical of this aspect of the game that I'd normally overlook. It would almost be better off with no story than the one they randomly slapped onto it.
Story is about 10 years old and it now reminds me of a time when indies were in a weird new world and got accolades just for existing, as the market was a lot smaller back then than it is now. I don't think it would be as well received if it came out today, and I definitely don't think it holds up. But there's charm in that. It's... unique. And quirky. And different enough to appeal to a certain audience that just wants something that isn't a generic copy paste of something they've seen 100 times before. So it absolutely has that going for it, but the game's bugginess (forgot to mention minor UI and engine bugs) with the frustrating mechanics are probably going to be put off by the midpoint of this game.
Footnote - If you walked away from A Story About My Uncle feeling confused about the hype and positive reviews, I highly recommend reading the Wikipedia page about the game, especially the development process section. Once you read how it was developed (essentially college students making an Unreal 3 tech demo) a lot of stuff will start making sense.
Nice and chill parkour game. Some sections can be tough but after some attempts I got past them.
Honestly, this game could have been so fun, if the map design wasn't so bad.
The story is solid.
Most of the times I struggled with parkour because of either: Bad timing, bad placement of the rock, the game being janky.
The other times were when the map design was so bad that I was so confused where to go or what to do.
The ice cave is unenjoyable.
This is some OG shit

chill game. definitely get it if its on sale
Very fun to play
its started as fun parkour adventure, and ended up as VERY frustrating one.
Decent puzzle/platform type game in the vein of Portal. Definitely a fun few hours, but the ending left me a little dissatisfied. Overall worth a play-through and you can do the time trials if you want a real challenge.
It took me years to finish, because I stopped playing 10 minutes before the end. Truly a gamer moment
