Laminar Research releases X-Plane 11.50 final
Laminar Research, creator of the X-Plane flight simulator franchise, is proud to announce the final Vulkan/Metal update of X-Plane 11. After many months of converting our graphics engine and beta testing, we are today announcing the final release of version 11.50 for the X-Plane desktop platform.
Vulkan (PC) and Metal (Mac) are rendering level APIs that change how X-Plane interacts with the graphics card. They are faster than OpenGL that X-Plane has used in the past. Overall, most users will see improved frame rates and reduced stutters when using Vulkan or Metal.
In X-Plane 11.50, there is a check-box in the graphics settings that enables Vulkan or Metal, and a restart of X-Plane is necessary for the change to take effect. If for some reason a user can’t use Vulkan or Metal, OpenGL is still available by simply unchecking the box.
Numerous bug fixes, enhancements, and new airports are also included in this release.

The simulator is just no-doubt, amazing. With all the climatic details, clear instructions from the ATC, realistic cabin and flight physics makes it very amazing. But only problem is with the aircraft noises. While planes such as Cessna and Boeing 737 have realistic sound, other planes such as Cirrus and Boeing 747 have a very shrill, unpleasant and unreal engine sounds. So I would suggest to make changes regarding the aircraft sounds. Otherwise, the simulator is good to use under the budget.
very fun and customizable
This game simulates u flying a plane, with full graphics and good fps, it will be a 11/10 experience
Crashed on my first flight
All you need is a joystick/yoke, throttle, rudder, headphones. It's all realistic.
Good physics, but If your looking for graphics and game play get MSFS.
Updating (thumbs neutral overall, but steam doesn't have that option) : Seems like a nice enough game/ sim.The graphics are of very high quality and it's very much a sim in that it's just like flying a real plane: ie intensive. For the realism and the function I experienced I give it a thumbs up. What is disappointing to me is the networking inclusion. It implies that you can link with other players and fly together. But it appears that it's not a supported feature. So, if you want to fly on your own and have the most realistic experience, it looks great - thumbs up. If you wan't to fly with others, it's a thumbs down (for me).
Late review, but the game is disappointing by all means, graphics aren't really that good like yall see on videos, requires special hardware to play properly and if not, it's hell, depressing atmosphere, underwhelming number of airplanes, overwhelming prices on DLCs, and nothing much more special than the average aircraft simulator. (mind you I was DYING to just try this game when I watched game plays)
to sum up, 4.5/10, not fun after 20 minutes. unless you're willing to pay 200+ USDs just for extra features that aren't even that useful. shame...
The game is super nice running on low-end devices. Beautiful aircraft and amazing physics!
i crashed into the twin towers 10/10
very fun. much easy to control in vr though. you can fly between countries such as flying between England and France, it just takes a long time. the map also doesnt seem to update until you close it and reopen it.
worked perfectly on linux in vr as well, but running on proton experimental
Great flight simulator! The game is cheaper than most flight simulators and it is quite good.
this game is a nightmare if you are just using a keyboard and mouse
Good game, XPlane 12 is also good, good physics, XPlane 11 is a nice teaser for it. Should you get xplane 11? no, get xplane 12 so you can get both xplane 12 and then get 11 for free
Has genuinely the worst controls and control customization of any simulator on the market. Good luck playing if you have anything other than a full simulator setup with a yoke, throttles, and rudder.
Physics feel completely off, every single landing I've had has been over 2Gs (which would severely damage an aircraft IRL) when I havent gotten a single landing over 1.5G in MSFS over 110 flights and thousands of hours. In 2 of my 6 flights in this sim, I've overrun the runway on landing because the thrust reversers and brake physics seem to be beyond weak.
this game is really fun ive flown to many places on this game and its really entertaining, and i really want to be come a pilot and this game helps me a lot!
Runs on almost anything, great sim, only downside is graphics quality of the map. Overall, great game - would reccomend.
one of the best flight sims I have ever played
Realistic flight simulator for b737 for low end pc
This game is by far my favorite plane game. Better physics that msfs and is older, the aircraft selection is ok but there’s a lot of free mods. The mod I most recommend is the FlywithLua head shake and landing rate
Recommended ★★★★☆ (4/5)
If you're looking for a hardcore flight simulator that prioritizes realism over accessibility, X-Plane 11 is one of the best in the genre. It offers incredibly detailed flight physics, a wide variety of aircraft, and an active modding community that keeps the experience fresh.
Pros:
✈️ Realistic Flight Model – The physics engine is one of the best, making every aircraft feel unique and immersive.
🌍 Massive, Open World – The entire globe is available, with accurate terrain and scenery.
🛠️ Modding & Add-ons – The community is amazing, with tons of free and payware mods that enhance aircraft, scenery, and realism.
🕹️ VR Support – A fantastic (though demanding) experience if you have the hardware for it.
🔧 Highly Customizable – Tons of settings to tweak, whether you're a casual flyer or a hardcore sim enthusiast.
Cons:
⚠️ Outdated Graphics – The base game looks decent, but compared to MSFS 2020, the default scenery and textures feel lacking.
💾 Performance Demands – Running the sim with high settings, add-ons, and dense scenery can be brutal on hardware.
🛫 Steep Learning Curve – Not beginner-friendly; expect to spend time learning systems, navigation, and proper procedures.
💸 DLC & Add-on Costs – While the base game is solid, many high-quality aircraft and scenery packs are paid, and they add up fast.
Final Verdict:
X-Plane 11 is a fantastic sim for serious aviation enthusiasts. It may not have the out-of-the-box visual polish of Microsoft Flight Simulator, but its flight physics, modding potential, and customization make it a great choice for those who want a true-to-life flying experience. If you’re into realism, flight planning, and IFR procedures, you’ll love it. If you’re looking for casual flying with stunning visuals, you might want to check out other options.
✅ Best for: Hardcore simmers, real-world pilots, and those who love tinkering with aircraft and mods.
❌ Not for: Those who want an easy, plug-and-play flight experience.
💡 Tip: Get community add-ons for improved scenery and weather effects—XP11 shines when modded!
Great flight sim for people getting into the hobby. The game goes on sale for about 10 bucks and easy to find tutorials on. Its a good starting point for people trying to expand into the world of flight simming.
This is very good flight simulator, Becuse you have so many planes and you cna have the planes that have everything in them l ike real life
awesome graphics
I'll say that this game is very easy to learn and has some good controls. The tutorial could be better and should have an option to learn the controls for other planes. I played the flight school and then immediately got into a Boeing 747-400. Had no idea what i was doing but i figured it out quickly. I had to set my controls and then I was off flying in the Queen of The Skies. What this game lacks is details around and outside of the airport. If you want those missing details go to Microsoft Flight Sim. I have learned a lot from playing this sim but still can't for the life of me land a damn plane because it always drifts off slightly to the right. I know how to set everything up for landing but then it all goes south. If i were to give it a star rating 0-5, I would give it a solid 3. This game is not beginner friendly, the controls are up to you to set up so you can remember them, but it does give a solid flight experience. Just don't do what i did and immediately plan a flight from Boston to London.
there are only planes in this game
its a great plane but i recommend that the VR needs to be improved better on the oculus rift3
Good scenery Good airplane Good aerodynamics
Short loading time compared to other brand new flight sims. (Though they have better graphics)
Brilliant game! Played over 300 hours! and haven't had it for even 3 months! Brilliant game since it was dropped in 2016!!!! incredible! this game is also good for beginners that want to test out flight simulation.
im very happy and its my fav game so far, it also works insanely on my GTX 1650 and nearly on MAX GRAPHICS!!!!!!!!
This game works pretty well if you have a potato PC or laptop like me and i would recommend it even if you have a good PC but not the money or hardware to play MSFS2020 or MSFS2024 or X-Plane 12.
fun but need more free airbus planes
i like this game. in my opinion, its WAY better in VR rlly good game!
I do not view/use X Plane as a game but as an extremely valuable tool to keep current/proficient as a real time pilot. My system is setup only for the Boeing 737 -800.
very good simulation game. everything works perfect regarding to the quality of simulation
good practice for aspiring pilots i guess
it's not Microsoft! It takes skill to configure and learn this game. It makes me a better person learning new skills.
i think this is more telling than an actual autism diagnosis from a psychiatrist
Very nice flight simulator, one of, if not the best flight model, many free- and payware planes available.
I would personally recommend this flight simulator to anyone who is looking for a realistic exprience flying a plane in a simulator.
Just bought it for the MD-80, the simulator is a bit old and graphics are dated but the physics are good.
best game in the world but not karachi airport
Fun to have short flights, but I had serious frame drop issues on some longer ones.
I can make a plane so fast it will be out of the entire expanding universe in 12 seconds and a plane so small, but with so much mass that it conjures a black hole whenever it exists
its kind of boring... until your 737 starts doing backflips and flapping its wings!
amazing over 1200+ hours and is the best sim i can come across!
Fun game to chill or to vomit one of the two :)
Great game. Very realistic particularly with the local Google earth overlay.
Its a good game. Just that it dosent have much airplanes. Especially Airbus! Still a good game. But if you do decide to buy it. WAIT FOR A SALE!
Flown round the country starting at Bangor Maine and returning- mapped it out and followed it touching every state in the USA. Finished the round trip one year to the day I started- landing back in Bangor Maine.
Loved every minute of it and still look through my photo book of screen shots. By the way, I am 69 year old female-still having fun!
does not recognize x52pro hotas. unable to find setup guide for control. should be a plug n play situation just like MSFS but it is not.
