probably too hard for the average player. lots of necessary stealth in the first sections of the game. but your characters have very little skills to use stealth opportunities. very low differentiation between classes at first game gets easier as you play.
probably would have worked better as a turn based game. there's a lot of enemies here and alerts make for too many moving parts on screen. you have the option to use pause combat at the start of campaign select but that's the only time. make sure your click it.
the balancing is gated around random loot and money. you can get more money but it's very slow via ATM drip hack. i probably left my PC running overnight for 15 hours just to farm creds. could have just have another gameplay mechanic like putting more aggressive hacks on ATMs but the risk of detection being higher.
tip: you get exp just for moving around enemy bases. you don't even have to kill anything. if you're just in the neutral areas you barely get an XP. you can cheese some early bases finding a clear walkway and just moving back and forth.
overall gameplay is pretty simple and biased toward patient moves. you don't really get to explore freely which is a shame because some of the environments are very pretty to look at. the newly released commandos origins is a better experience but also much harder.
fun at first but it's one buggy mess..
Amazing game. Evokes the feeling of Syndicate in ways, but gameplay loop is different. You're tasked with missions in an open world, and you can pick different approaches (including some unlocked by doing side-missions). Most missions take you into restricted areas belonging to one of the four corporations. There are usually multiple avenues of approach, depending on team capabilites. Stealth pays off, but you have a bunch of toys if you really need to go loud.
Just a few highlights:
1. Hijacked a corpo A guard, sent it into the corpo B compound, which promptly triggered alarms and drew patrols to the area.
2. Went deep into the enemy compound to steal top tier tech. Mission went pear-shaped, with corpo reinforcements streaming in. Team does bounding overwatch to retreat to safety.
3. Hijacked a corpo guard to open locked gates and allow the rest of the team in (or out).
I just wish one could silently snipe from a distance (would be cool, but totally OP).
11/10, would trigger alarms again.
if you enjoyed the old syndicate war series from the 90s. even if you dont. its a great game.
Unique game. Cool mechanics, cool visuals, lots of freedom. Beautiful cyberpunk world. love letter to Syndacate. If you are an isometric fan, it becomes automatically a must-buy.
A fun if not buggy and sometimes irritating game.
I have always been a huge fan of both Syndicate and Syndicate Wars and Satellite Reign is a worthy spiritual successor.
The gameplay is often repetitive and the story, which is actually pretty good, is told in a very non linear fashion which can certainly lead to gaps by the time the credits roll.
This game is a lot of fun, despite some of it's short comings, buy on a sale and play with friends...if you have any.
All I can say about Satellite Reign is that everything about the game felt underbaked. The story certainly existed into a climax that came basically out of nowhere. The gameplay started to get formulaic by the second district. Every district will have you unlock your respawn/fast travel points, hack every ATM to get passive income, break into the bank for increased passive income and one time cash injection. Break into military compounds, steal loot, escape. There are three factions. None of them feel different. They'll all use armour, they'll all use shields, they'll all use robots. I think some of them favor certain weapon types? It never felt like any of them actually had any difference.
The actual gameplay itself offers several approaches, but the stealth is inconsistent. I have inputted movement commands to watch the pathfinding send my squad in the most batshit directions. I have inputted them to hide behind cover and they'll decide to just... not? Moving somewhere else nearby where I selected instead. Similarly, combat is more micromanagement than any RTS I've played. There is no automatic targeting for your squad, you must manually target each enemy for each member. Once that one is dead, you need to target another one or they'll just stand there doing nothing. So as soon as I managed to unlock strong enough weaponry, I immediately moved to the death ball approach of slaughtering my way through enemy bases. The brute force method worked wonderfully and only got stopped two or three times by the end of the game.
There's an entire mechanic where you need to spend around 20-ish minutes per item you loot to research it to be mass produced along with money. So if you really want to use that item, you'll be AFKing. Except it will auto pause the game if you're AFK, so you need to toss on an auto clicker as well if you want to just wait out some research to install a new augment or use a new weapon. Alternatively, you can use the prototypes on their own but risk losing them if your agent dies. Which also means you can't use multiple. This mechanic is just kind of annoying padding and you still need to pay money to equip the gear, so they could have just made money a bit tighter in exchange.
The gameplay loop overstays its welcome by about ten hours and by the time I reached end game, I was absolutely burnt out.
Its a modern interpretation of syndicate era in the 90s. like it a lot!
Great Game!! If you ever knew Syndicate, you will love this game!!
completed
Is this still broken for Linux?
I loved the old Syndicate games, so I was super stoked when I learned about this. Unfortunately, I can't get past the tutorial because I can't figure out why force action doesn't work. Should be alt + shift + right click. That doesn't work. Well it worked exactly once after I got frustrated and starting mashing keys.
I've more deliberately tried various other key combos including right and left shift and alt keys. This action also doesn't appear in the key bindings menu, so.... unplayable.
Is this just me? Or do other Linux users have this issue.
Ok some of you well lol those that are a bit older, may have forgotten about a pc game called Syndicate well this is it with upgraded graphics and mechanics! This is strategy meets James Bond meets RPG meets fun!
Awesome corporate warfare Syndicate Wars succesor
Syndicate wars reborn
i fell asleep i couldve used my time on something else better
This is the heir to Syndicate Wars - my childhood deep love
The ending wrecked me!
Great game, if you like stealth and a bit of puzzle solving. Visuals are beautiful, and there is a lot of freedom on how to approach missions.
Can't Lie game is absolutely amazing lol, the sound damping grenade is too funny to use, this game is honeslty designed really well and i mean really well you can play it how ever you want guns a blazing, sneaky sneaky, tactically it lets you do it all kidnapping people to clone is golden its honestly a 9.5/10 the only issues I have are some of the achievements seem to be bugged but there appears to be workarounds which is nice. I would recommend it.
This is a very enjoyable spiritual successor to Syndicate Wars, which I played for many tens of hours back in the day on PC in the 1990's (or so I remember). This new version is more complex, if anything more playable, just as addictive, and kicks some serious ass. The weaponry is awesome, as are the sound effects. The graphics run great even on an old Vega 56, and it doesn't even need a fast CPU. My only complaint is that after about 25 hours of gameplay the difficulty level of the game starts to get somewhat excessive. But wow is it ever fun, fun, fun. This is a bit of a masterpiece, congratulations to the developers. It's also fairly bug free.
If you ever played Syndicate, this game is an amazing throw back to that genre of game. It runs fine on last years hardware, and it is an enjoyable way to pass the time. If you like to play hide and seek with the enemy this is a great choice. Eventually you power up and can just maintain running battles with the enemy.
Units get caught on scenery constantly.
The successor to Syndicate.
Well shit, I feel bad about leaving this on my backlog for so long - it was excellent.
Meh.
This game is a love letter to syndicate. Thank you to the developers for putting so much dedication into updating a classic for today in such a magnificent way. I just finished the game and I'm sad to know that we no longer have content available. It's a true AAA game in its depth, mechanics and art direction. Congratulations folks!
Graphics and atmosphere are pretty cool, But that`s all about it. No connection to the characters you are playing and running around and doing things without any real reason. So there is no story as far as i played. But the real annoyance is you can save anywhere in the game but that does not mean anything. I don't really now what you are saving but if you load a save point you have to do lot of stuff again.
Fun adventure to come back to once in a while. Great game.
Great retake on Syndicate, capturing the feel with a few modern design choices. Good for people who enjoyed Syndicate.
dis game sucks
Brilliant game but ruined by the dumbest bugs.
Spend hours doing a long run only to have your agent stuck in the game geometry during the final escape, losing hours of planning and progress.
Even worse is the hijacked team members always disappear after loading a save, so expect to lose 5 valuable team members every playthrough.
If those 2 glaring issues were fixed, this would be a flawless game.
Spiritual successor to 90's Syndicate games and quite reminiscent of them. A real-time tactics game that is fun and atmospheric, but somewhat rough on the edges. Basically you commit a series of heists on various subsidiary corporations and locations to build up your team and unlock new areas until you can go after the big bad boss. At least for me, managing all this in real time can be quite overwhelming, but there's an option when starting a new game to make it real time with pause, and you can unlock the bullet time ability for your support class later. Also, I ended up doing at least half of all things stealthily with the infiltrator.
Biggest problem is the roughness. Even the achievements are little janky. The interface isn't the smoothest and I had my characters getting killed on multiple occasions by getting stuck on map geometry and not being able to escape. Would probably be useful to figure out beforehand how to suicide your agents if any of them gets stuck somewhere where they will not be found. Death doesn't mean much in this transhumanist cyberpunk future.
Don't pass this if you like tactics and cyberpunk.
I love this game, seriously. I've played it a ton. I knew right away it was syndicate but new. The music is amazing! Highly recommend if you like stealth or action, the game play is very cerebral.
I usually try to wait, until i finished a game, but since it's very rough and grindy, i am not assured when/can not be assured, that i will finish the game.
Right now, district 1 has been completed and at least 2 more lie ahead.
I can not recommend the game...but not, because it is not good.
Got it myself on discount or in a bundle with indie-games, if i recall correctly and to that price back then, it seems totally worth it.
Gametrailer 1 on my end is a bit misleading (showing closeups of models/animations, which you barely will see like this ingame) but trailer 2 shows pretty much, how the game looks and works.
PROs:
- nice graphics and atmosphere for a "dusty", isometric RPG (not recommended for people with seizure though);
- very positive are the low hardware requirements, you halfway can play it on your toaster...well, if it's smart enough;
- innovative mechanisms and controls, which take a while, to get used to, but after some practice, work out;
- rts-battle with 4 standard and some (depending on "Hacker"'s perk up tp 5, i think) "converted" units in single-player;
CONTRAs:
- hard, to learn the ropes - or - not very newbie-friendly mechanisms (rather try Fallout Tactics, Diablo, Starcraft, C&C first);
- some bugs/glitches only can be bypassed by committing suicide (Ctrl + LShift + K) and resurrect with degraded stats;
- imbalance between enemy-difficulty and player's char's levels/abilities;
- felt "rigged" on my end - or - sometimes 1 weak enemy could take out all my 4, stronger units and even converted ones, or call an unrealistic high ammount of reinforcements, after not having died from gunfire from 4 to 8 barrels of guns, even when one stood around him, turning the game into a massacre instead of a challenging and joyfull experience;
- when not preset (LShift + LMB) sometimes own troops split up, leaving 1 of them running into enemy fire and dying with arms wide open...unpleasant;
- savegames not always keep all aspects, that would be desired, e.g. continuing/loading removes all converted units (even tough ones with high perks), if you did not turn them into "sacrifices" before saving and ending the game;
- sometimes game-mechanisms (abilities/attacks/moving) don't apply, no matter, how often you press a button, leaving your trooper(s) defenseless;
- without discount, quite pricy, even 9 years after release;
Some of the CONTRAs are bearable in my opinion, but some are extremely game-breaking.
Apart from the bugs/glitches/rigging, i though could not find any greater flaws, meaning by now the game itself is solid and creative work, with just unfortunate flaws on very decisive edges.
So, if you don't care about being treated unfairly in dicy situations, where 30 to 80 minutes of clever and exhausting stealth-gameplay go to shreds, due to "rigged" mechanisms (you can't save in "dangerzones", not as long any of your units is in such or hunted by the authorities), this is just the game, you've been looking for.
Even the most simpliest Steam-achievements have not been obtained by barely 10% of players, owning this game on Steam.
Either way, you'll have to learn, to like the game, that's for sure...but if you do, you'll enjoy it.
Nope.
I've been playing video games for 49 years. I've played old fashioned ascii games and state of the art shooters. Games have come a long way, and have built off of each other's designs. The tutorial for this game proved that the interface is a mess. Once you see things like press Alt 1-4 to access weapons, you know that there's a design problem.
If you're going to have a complex interface, you'd better have some super deep game play going on to match it. This doesn't.
Such a fun game, reminds me a lot of the Syndicate games from back in the day. It really abodies that old school spirit. The graphics are really good.
I wish they had made more, DLC or sequal, but the game has replay value, so I can return to it whenever I want, every playthrough is different.
Enjoyable game. Not quite Syndicate but its really close in style. Controls aren't as intuitive as they could be but I think you can redefine them. The gun play is actually much harder than Syndicate but the hacking and stealth / puzzle solving is a welcome introduction. Well worth a play for what it costs :)
syndicate lovers will love this game
Good
syndicate from 1993 under a different guise. I enjoyed it as a kid, probably wouldn't now with different preferences, and sadly, 30 years later they still didn't think to include tactical pause and a decent save system, not just sparse checkpoints and manual saving under certain conditions. there's an ability that slows things down and fucks up the screen, can be chosen to be maxed out on startup, but basic accessibility shouldn't be an unlock. and it should be actual pause if it's called 'realtime with pause', not just slow motion with a headache-inducing effect. and speaking of slow, sprinting for 3 seconds, then waiting for it to recharge shouldn't be allowed in games anymore.
also, enemy scaling (and respawning cameras) is one of the laziest things a developer can do, removing any sense of progression. what they should've done instead is ui scaling. decent settings otherwise but not mentioning any of these on the store page and asking 25 bucks back in 2015 is a joke.
