Age of Empires II (Retired)

Easily the best of the AoE games, if only because of the sheer amount of grinding involved. I've played for over 10K hrs and likely have at least another 5K to go before I complete all achievements for all civiliazations.

Still holding up after all these years. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I just keep coming back and playing it.

Always a trip back in time love this game

I like this more 'old fashioned' version of Age of Empires. Other types of similar strategy games, are a bit too complicated for my liking.

Played this game obsessively as a youth when it first came out.

Still has its quirks, and yes, there are newer better games... but this is one heck of a nostalgia trip.

Loved it then, love it now, just don't play it as often.

I might return to this version soon. DE is kinda going downhill.

AoE2 is still the best game of the series

AOE 2 is a classic. It runs well and is exactly like the original.

36 hours is deceptive cause I grew up with this game as a kid and played hundreds of hours. Still one of the best RTS games I've every played

It's basically the same game like the original Age of Empires II with voobly and the free hd-patch, but it's more laggy. The updates seem to mess up all of your workshopsettings every time.

Always loved playing this game back in the day.

Still amongst the best strategy games today.

Both my wife and I played the original AoEII for a whole lot of hours prior to Steam. Almost all of the playtime on this account is from her. Then I made her a Steam account of her own, with only AoEII, because I wanted to play my games too. Between both accounts there are around 1700 hours of playtime. So yeah, she loves it. Top-notch RTS, campaign is great. Multiplayer is still active. Definitely worth it, especially if you can snag it during sale.

A game with a lot of history. So fun and nice for all those who love RTS games.

The continuation of the classic AoE.
Lots of nice little tweeks that enhance game play.
You wouldn't buy a car for these features but they're why you love the game.
Branch out: just don't play the English for the long bowmen. ;+)

Such an iconic fame and glad they decided to bring it back in an HD edition. Grew up with this game and still love it 25 years later, also have a passion for history thanks to this game.

An oldie but a goodie! Classic! Build up your army. Defend you base. Survive against others who are out to get you!

I just now saw the (retired) behind the game name in my library and instantly felt OLD but oddly happy to have waisted hours uppon hours of diging out gold felling trees and hunting boars to fule my economy. with or against friends i had my fun or just a solo game from time to time. using diferent tactics and rejoicing when a strategy payed off are some fond memories attached to this game! getting all reminesent over it made me want to play it again so "C ya later and Hyololoh!" It's the game of my childhood, the very one of my father's and mine interest.

It's like the very Indiana Jones sayed: I've imagined this, Wombat. Studied it. All my life. "Wombat-headed" is an insult meaning dull, stupid, or block-headed.

It really is, I'm going to play capmapin and paddle in history inbeded within the monitor of my pc. With mechanics that are elegand and working all very well.

I want in fact this game to develop into further past and into very begining of civilization, like 100 year Umma–Lagash war of paradice, Guedean. So and love<3 for DE DLC content, expansions.

How I was involved in Barbarossa campain, and when I was playing, offline I was imagining history companined, from family discusions, reading and this game, I was plaing with my imagination, thanks to that colosuss of content. Its good exam too, while having fun, how? Well you can chack if your siblings or children recognize hiden truth behind the simple objectives and oveall story.

Besides, it is not Definitive Edition, and has garphis of orginal but updateg graphics that is time capsule of 2013 and even time before.

For younger generation it's like black and white photography. They can learn from it real past of 90s and 2000s.

Such a classic game, a great way to connect with long distance friends over a not so friendly game of army/world building and destroying!!

A games that's over 25 years old still played today with a fantastic array of different races with abilities. Great campaigns still got a few to finish but wow lots of replyability.

this game is amazing the only problem is that they have palisade walls but no palisade gates

Not optimized very well.
Sometimes right-clicking will make you place a random building.
Changing keybinds won't tell you if that bind is used for something else, causing 2 actions to happen when you press a key.

They should have left the original alone, and just resold that.

Timeless classic, easy gameplay. Addictive, what's not to like?

I like definitive edition better, but this is a great throwback and true to the original game.

This game is a childhood classic and I have played it for many, many years. It has many difficulty levels so you can continue to play even when you become very skilled.

There has yet to be an multiplayer RTS to match this game. which is why we still scramble to play 25 years and going. it is the greatest game ever made.

classic old-school game, also good in multi player, although I haven´t tried it online as I am not sure how it goes with slow connection.
