Castle In The Darkness is a fun and challenging shout out to the early days of video games! It's an action exploration platformer with some RPG elements, much like games from the Castlevania or Metroid series. It's super fast-paced, challenging, and full of secrets!

Very fun challenging indie metroidvania! You control a soldier/knight that can attack pretty fast and you fight enemies and bosses that are fairly easy to figure out. There's also some pretty tight platforming involved as you make your way to the end of the game, collecting weapons and armor along the way.
9/10 Game.
Fun little game and OST.
I know reviewing a 10 year old game is a bit pointless, but let's go anyways.
This game does a lot of things right. I love the artstyle, it has nice concepts, sadly the end result isn't for me.
The game's hard, but not in a way that would make it enjoyable for me.
It is hard because it is simple, without much wiggle room, not because it is trying to be hard. For example, attacking with your sword roots you in place for quite a long time.
Moving and jumping feels like a small indie game - which it is - but that still doesn't make it feel any better.
Kind of reminiscent of Faxandu for the NES. The game includes a lot of easter eggs, tipping the hat to games like Zelda and Metroid. There's also a lot of cheap deaths and the bosses can be tough if you're impatient. Like I was...
Needed to fiddle with the joy.cpl file to be able to use my XBOX controller, and it also made Spotify spas out and change song at every other enemy. The sound effects and music was horrible, that's why I instead try to listen to Spotify...
Only recommended if you're a hardcore retro fan of the adventure platformers of late 80s early 90s
I attempted to play this game for just under an hour.
Used the Steam Deck and for some reason the audio was set to 0 for both music and sfx. The gamepad isn't detected, you have to go into the option menu and then set the jump and attack buttons.
I thought this was a metroid vania game, it is more like a basic action game that someone used a simple game maker software to create. Nothing makes sense from the start, you talk to some villagers, kill a few random enemies. You then are given a chance to purchase a sword for 100 coins. I did this and it turns out the sword isn't stronger and isn't anything different from the default sword you start with.
Within three screens you fight a boss and are woefully underpowered. You cannot access your menu during gameplay and can only access your inventory at save points which is weird. Lots of cheap deaths like everyone has said, but definitely doable. What I didn't like was how much HP basic enemies take off of you. This isn't really an RPG where you can grind and gain levels and strength.
In the one hour I played I killed like 5 bosses and was only able to find one piece of armor that was slightly stronger then the default. Nothing made sense in game where you would enter houses and within them nothing would happen. The level design is just a straight line where you go through 3 rooms and then fight a boss in the 4th room.
Extremely underwhelming experience and I wouldn't recommend it even if it was free. Their are so many other better games to play then this one.
Gamepad doesn't work immediately, you need to go into the menus to enable it. This should be fixed to Just Work with common gamepads.
It appears to be a game like Wonder Boy in Monster World (what I was expecting), but it's actually one of those platformer games that loves to troll constantly you. If you're into those types of games you may like this one.
Seems like a good troll game for streamers to play. It's not a good recommend for people wanting a game like Wonder Boy in Monster World / Castlevania.
The lack of map and the high precision in the platform can turn people off, but the game is REALLY good and severely underrated. Solid metroidvania.
This game is hard.
