Played this game long ago as a kid on the game cube. Found it on a black Friday sale and decided to buy it. The game is definitely outdated but I forgot how fun it was.
This game is called GUN
It's really FUN
If you play it enough you just might CUM
Suddenly this game inspired me to write a review
As foreword, I'd like to say that I've been waiting to play it for a long time before RDR, so that wouldn't feel like a sand in my mouth afterwards, as it usually happens with old games, especially when they're so conceptually similar.
GUN pleasantly surprised me in almost every way. Despite the fact that I was looking forward to play it, I was afraid of some quite obvious problems: it's an old game — I'll have to dig through guides and look for patches (on top of all I've got an ultrawide). Besides it's a console port, so that made me think I'd have to play it with a gamepad.
To my surprise, all it took was a simple resolution patch and the game runs perfectly on my rig, the ultrawide looks just right, nothing is stretched at all. The controls are responsive and comfortable as possible, the best of all, the game has nice realistic animations, but they're not overly drawn out and it doesn't prevent you from cancelling one animation into another when needed.
Both 3rd person and 1st person gunplay are fine and easy to use, the auto-aim assists in gun-fights and makes them not too difficult and very cinematic (it's very cool when you get five or more bad guys from your GUN in a row).
The horse handling is great, although the game has an acceleration mechanic and you can ride your horse too hard, which affects the time-limited missions. Horses don't feel SOAPY and always turn where you point them, so even at high speeds you are in control of what happening.
The main quest missions are varied and some of the sides, but there are also a few kinds of sides which I can call relatively bland, like time-limited rides, "princess" rescues, hunting (pretty basic), shooting bad fellows who attack one of two towns. All of them take no longer than 2 or 3 minutes. As for the main quest, the game uses all mechanics it has, for example there is even a stealth level and through your way to the victory you'll be able to shoot from different stationary weapons like gatling and cannon. The game feels engaging and won't take more than 15 hours, if only you do not wander through it's beautiful worlds as I did.
I also was really impressed by the beauty of the game world, although as far as I know the game looks a little bit worse than the PS2 version. There are different regions with their own unique palette and mood plus the map is small and easy to remember, including all shortcuts from one zone to another.
The game features the basic upgrades system from three different shops and also your character stats grow after completing every mission. I advise you to ride around and look for gold ore, because you'll be able to upgrade your starting revolver and rifle with it, these guns were my best companions through the whole game. There will be no surplus of money, believe me. Choose wisely what you need here and now.
In conclusion the game is old and unlikely to surprise you after RDR, but it's very well done and it's a solid 8/10. I wouldn't hesitate to say that it was a real RDR when 3D universe of GTA came out. Thanks to the game and it's devs for an extremely enjoyable gaming experience.

One of my childhood favorite games, if you like guns and cowboys this is worth a try
One of the best western games and that is mainly due to its great cast of characters.
After playing through about 25% of Red Dead Redemption 2’s story mode, and being bored to tears by the characters, story, and missions. I remembered having played Gun for a couple of hours on the GameCube a while back, and decided to see if it was on Steam. I’ve got to say Gun is 100 times more enjoyable than RDR2. All RDR2 has is pretty graphics, if that’s all you care about, just google a picture of a mountain or look out your window at a tree or some shit.
RDR2:
*sees Indians*
“Oh golly, us white males sure did do them dirty, Indians 4-life!
*rides away*
GUN:
*Bad azz savage Indians do a war cry, and start attacking you with flaming arrows*
RDR2:
Women all look like Walmart cashiers, who get sassy when you look at them for 3 seconds.
GUN:
Big breasted blonde women in brothel attire.
RDR2:
Black cowboy for some reason, who mentions he’s black every single cut scene.
GUN:
Actual cowboys.
RDR2:
Riding your horse 100 miles to have a slow paced gun fight.
GUN:
Arcade style gun fights.
TL;DR
Gun is a really fun cowboy game from a better time in gaming, it’s worth the 6 bucks on sale. The store page doesn’t show controller support, but you can use a controller, you’ll just need to monkey around with the settings a bit.
100 out of 10, my 2024 GOTY.

GUN is an absolute classic from the era where the line between games and movies was really starting to blur. The game is stacked from top to bottom with an all-star voice cast, cinematic storytelling and an early example of an open-world. VERY short if you just plow through the main story, but I don’t recommend that. The game's story is engaging but the side missions are really fun too. Easy recommendation, I’ve beaten this about 10 times now. Still just as good as it was when I played it for the first time.
legendary game
I bought this because Red Dead Redemption is $40. I was not disappointed.
This was my favorite cowboy game till red dead 2 i still love it.
amazing story line and game play for a near 20 year old game definitly worth it
vwa gvsdzv
100
i played when baby
MMMMMM nostalgy....
Excellent game. Surprisingly way more fun than Red dead revolver and more similar to the later red dead redemption games
SUPER DUPER
Best game ever made!
Brutal...
a old but good one
This is piss poor port of the playstation 2 game and it's unplayable. I actually finished it on the ps2, really enjoyed it. This version however, is complete garbage It is not optimized and is only set up for use with the keyboard and mouse. The horse controls ruin it for me. This version of the game sucks. Avoid it. Play it on the console
It's rootin', it's tootin', and by God, it's shootin'.
I shot someone 👍
GUN is FUN.
It is completely broken. The character moves too fast, the controls are whacked, and it just doesn't have anywhere near the playability of the original Console games. Seriously, it is terrible. I would say the storyline is great, but the game is so broken, I can't even get to the story.
OLD BUT GOOD STORY
8/10
I originally played this game on PS2 and I have many fond memories of it, the pc port aside from not having native widescreen support and a 30 fps lock by default, was a great way for me to re experience this classic, I played through the whole game and it's side content. this game really was something else for the time, the only open world western until Rockstar made Red Dead Redemption. and even still, this game is still a pleasure to experience. It has a very cinematic and enjoyable story albeit a little cliche. I think the game overall holds up very well and should be experienced especially considering the game isn't terribly long even if you do all the side content, If it's ever on sale and if you are looking for a good western, definitely give this game a go.
Apart from the bs difficulty spike on the final level...
Fun game. Max Payne meets wild west.
Son: Mom can we buy Red Dead Rememption 1 for PC?
Mom: We already have Red Dead Redemption 1 for PC at home.
Read dead redemption 1 for PC at home:
love game!!!!
A childhood classic, the introduction to western games that led me to one of my favorite game series of all time, Red Dead Redemption. Thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough after all these years, and it felt rewarding to accomplish 100% completion. I experienced no lag or graphic issues and had a smooth and fun experience.
I'M HOODOO BROWN!!!!!!
10/10
THIS GAME IS A GEM
TOTAL AMERICAN INDIANS DEATH
WAS MY PAWPAWS FAVORITE VIDEO GAME WHILE I WAS GROWING UP SO I FOUND A PHYSICAL COPY AND TRIED IT IN MY SERIES X AND ITS NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE SO I HOPPED ON MY PC AND WENT SEARCHING AND THEN I STUMBLED UPON THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME FROM MY CHILDHOOD AND IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS JUST A WEE LIL BOY AGAIN PLAYING GAMES MY PAWPAW TOLD ME I WASNT ALLOWED TO PLAY 100/10
I use to play this game back when it was available on Gamecube and it was fun then and it's still fun now. It's a very old school game and not for those who get offended by certain terms. This game is set in a certain era and is very relevant to that time. Overall game play is pretty good. The only thing you really need to worry about is stocking up on explosives before facing magruder at the end of the game.
Great game
I played it as a kid, but never finished the game. I finished the game like 3 months ago and I was really happy about how good story is for that much old game now. It can easily compare to Call of Juarez, RDR etc. very nice game, plese if you have time just go and play it. It will bring good memories I promise you!
gun a old western style game with story driven and side missions to keep you entertained. this is one of my favorite childhood games from ps2 times couldn't believe steam had it this. would recommend to play for fun i tried to stream it wouldn't go into full screen mode.
only real ones know
Gun is a fun game. And in theory I would recommend it. But either the Steam version or PC port in general is absolutely broken on my system.
The saves do not work. Whenever I try manual saving, the saves are all always shown as "damaged". They can be located in the save games folder though, the game does create the save files.
As for auto saves, they work as long as I am playing, so if I quit to menu – I can press continue and it will load the last auto save. But if I exit the game, and start it again, the autosaves are gone.
I read elsewhere that antivirus may have to do something with it, but I exited my Advanced System care and disabled Windows Security completely and even after uninstalling the game I still can't save. I tried compatibility options as well.
Elsewhere I found some say that some widescreen fix may damage the saves, but I have not installed any other applications, mods or anything. Only the plain vanilla base game.
I also tried downloading saves from other players, but the game marks their saves as "damaged" too.
So I pretty much tried everything I could and the game simply would not recognise the saves.
For this alone, I can't give a thumbs up rating to the game.
What I did manage to do, is that I found some hacks which would let me start any mission including side missions anytime I'd want. I could also edit my skills, items, arsenal and unlocked weaponry accordingly to the missions I'm currently playing. So I did manage to beat all of the main and side missions, and I even managed to explore the whole open world and dig most of the gold. So Basically I did experience vast majority of the game's content. The problem is that it was such a ruined experience. Sometimes when I'd start a mission the game would not spawn a horse anywhere, so I'd have to beat the mission on foot. And because of the mission selection the progression of skills and items did not feel as rewarding as if I played the game in chronologically correct order, by beating a main mission, then all the side ones, then the main one and side ones again. Here, I pretty much had to play each of the same type of side missions in order or else I would get lost which missions I had beaten and which I had not.
Anyway enough rambling about my botched scuffed experience. The game itself is pretty good. It has a very tiny and cute open world which is used to its full potential. The combat is pretty neat, horse riding is all right. Storyline is all right too. Besides side missions and gold mining there isn't anything else you can do in the open world, but as you ride, the game randomly spawns bandits who attack you, so at least there is that.
6/10
