Wow. This game still hold up good in 2025 one of the best gunplay in 3rd person shooters good and engaging story solid 9/10 recommend buying it.
great game as usual from rockstar. older but if you want a good shoto um up its for you.... but i h8 the rockstar launcher.
Soundtrack is amazing. I think the story is intriguing, and has good character development. The game play is oh so much fun. I miss games having bullet time. Played it on Xbox 360 back in the day and just replayed it. Such fond memories and I am glad it holds up. Graphics are not bad they kind of hold up.
Max Payne 3 is great action packed 3rd person shooter. While the online can be challenging and tough at times its still a blast to play,

What sucks is that the cutscenes aren’t skippable at all, not without a mod at least.
Max Payne with gun go pew pew!!! Excellent gunplay (Sometimes, it gets weird somehow). The story is pretty straightforward. (Btw, Multiplayer is dead)
Absolutely fantastic! IMO, the best Max Payne. Soundtrack is splendid and complements the game wonderfully. Love cranking up the ole' soundbar and listening to them bullets being sprayed at those baddies. All these years later, I still enjoy playing.
One of the most underrated games ever made by Rockstar. The story can be slightly less compelling than first two games but I enjoyed the story. The combat is so frickin satisfying, some of the best I have ever seen in gaming. The realism is on another level, this game is more realistic than GTA 5. Top notch music and some of the actions scenes are on par with movie action sequences or even better. Rockstar really put a lot of care and money into this game(100 million dollars apparently) and it's sad that the game was a financial disaster. Amazing game.

The last original Rockstar game that wasn't GTA or Red Dead. Max Payne 3 is a massive game obviously started as a small project for Rockstar Vancouver before being overhauled by other studios and a massive inflated budget to boot. The game play is good the shooting is really good one of the biggest problems with the game is the AI the AI in this game is awful they know where you are at all times and will shoot you directly in the head it's annoying so annoying it makes the difficulty of the game ridiculous because it's not fair difficulty anyway the story is also pretty forgettable this game in general is forgettable I would honestly recommend Kane and Lynch 2 more both games are similar yes that game has worse gameplay but I think that game is way more interesting and it's also half the length. Anyway overall I do recommend this it's a decent game I recommend the first two games first but Max Payne 3 ain't bad on sale

Max Payne 3, though off-track from the story that the previous game envisioned, is a masterful character study that provides it's hero with the only end that he still deserves. It's wickedly fun, gorgeous looking, and houses the second best video game soundtrack ever made. I'll always love the 2nd game more, but this one is still a gem, and grants it's fans and Max Payne a proper ending that should never be tampered with.
I had a lot more fun playing this one than both 1, and 2. Played all 3 recently for the first time, and 3 was my favorite with 2 close behind.
Another not so bad Rockstar game i haven't played any of the max paynes by Remedy but ive heard they would have made this game different if they didn't sell it to Rockstar love the game tho the jumping and shooting people feels really good and smooth. LOVE IT!!! >W<

Great game to check out, i rate it a 10/10 with its story and amazing gameplay mechanics.
Only if on sale (60% or more). Good graphics, sound, voice acting, and gameplay. However it is marred with long and interrupting cut-scenes. And the visuals during these cut-scenes... It feels like an overcooked Tony Scott film produced by Joel Silver. Also don't let me talk about the multitude of times Max drops off his big guns during a scene change.
p.s.: What is it with Rockstar's (and also other companies') credits being so long and slow? Is it like a rule or union thing? (GTA V, those credits were loooooooooooooong.)
Max is old, it´s not really that MP vibe from the first two games, it´s like a side story in a gta universe, but it is fun and looks better than the old games of course.
James McCaffrey embodies Max Payne for the last time. Remedy produced yet another classic that holds up over a decade later. Max Payne 3 is by far one of the best 3rd person shooters with a rich creative story from start to finish. The gameplay is improved and includes the Euphoria physics engine from GTAIV making gun fights and reactions more satisfying.
Max Payne 1 and 2 are currently being remade by the great Sam Lake so this is a must have in your library. The third game takes place 9 years after "The Fall of Max Payne" and throws you deep into his depression and old age. When dodging in 3 you'll notice Max gets up slower or fumbles a bit to get back on his feet. With the improved physics and Max's disadvantages it really makes you consider where you're landing your bulletime dodge.
The story of Max Payne is by far one of the greatest told. Only downside to this game, it's written by Dan Houser and not Sam Lake. If you ever wanted to play a game that made you feel like John Wick, this is it.

Fun little game, the gun fights are fun and you feel like an action movie hero. The game is very linear and doesn't have much of game play other than aiming and shooting but the story is fun and the voice acting is top notch. Get it while its on sale and you won't be disappointed.
ROCKSTAR LAUNCHER NEED TO BE BURNT
Cant get on any of my rockstar games because my steam account is linked to an old rockstar account that i lost due to email being hacked years ago. After getting in contact they asked what the exact day was i linked rockstar to steam. They basically just said they're unable to confirm me as the owner as i have no way of finding that info (it'd be in the email i have no access to). Apparently proving ownership of my steam account isn't good enough for them... DESPITE IT BEING LINKED!
Even when the launcher works its pointless shite anyway. Many decent games lost.
Bitter sweet ending to the Max Payne trilogy. It's has a more unique take on cover shooter with it's john wick matrix style of action. There's likely not gonna be another Max Payne game so play this when you can.

Not much to say about this one. The last part of the series; Max Payne goes through his final purgatory; An ex-cop who lost purpose in life is waging war against evil, a war he never asked for. Its better as a movie than a game in my opinion, with brilliant atmosphere, music, sound effects and of course story. Its not without faults though - technically speaking this game wasn't polished at all. There are many problems which can kill main character easily. Some of these are listed below.
- Automatic "last chance" event is probably the worst of all problems. Triggered erratically, forces player to neutralize enemy in a slow motion mode. Not only it breaks gunfights tempo but also looks silly (character is floating in zero gravity and can literally rotate mid-air just because). Whole thing is on timer; If player fails to kill specific npc the sequence always ends with Payne's death. Reloading & switching & using cover are all disabled.
- Game has implemented one quick-time event that requires pushing specific set of buttons in right intervals. Mistake kills MC immediately.
- Poorly designed controls - too divided.
- Payne's movement is way too slow; to the point of lagging.
- Its mostly a one-sided carnage because npc's scripting makes them an easy target.
- Occasional bullet-sponges; threats can absorb damage - even multiple 7.62/51 - without any armor on them. My personal record was to sell six 5.56 bullets to the unprotected chin of an enemy. Only seventh bullet proved to be fatal.
- Rearranging weapons during cutscenes. Guns being lost, holstered or swapped constantly.
- Faulty side-camera switching. There are times when it just doesn't work.
- Enemies ignore walls, will try to shoot through 'em without actually seeing their target once. They can also throw grenades perfectly, bypassing walls & floors altogether.
- Choosing weapon through wheel-menu can very much discard it.
I've played on linux, proton, experimental version. Was forced to disable Rockstar's launcher after maybe two hours of playing, because it literally launch nothing; Heard that reinstalling may also help but i'm not fond of wasting time with 30GBs of data. Also who says it would fix the game permanently? Disabling launcher requires to start a new game.

If Max Payne and The Fall of Max Payne are sleep and the accompanying action-packed dreams and nightmares putting you face-to-face with your guilt, then Max Payne 3 is waking up hungover the next day, dazed, disoriented, your body aching and your head throbbing. The American Dream of the first two games is but an echo of a memory, repressed and forgotten amid a drunken haze.
If you hadn’t guessed it yet, Max Payne 3 is quite the departure from the stylings of Remedy’s Max Payne; as Max himself puts it, this was to be an opportunity for a new beginning, but the ghosts of his past make the prospect an unlikely one. Nearly ten years on from the events of Max Payne 2, and grief has driven Max to addiction of a double-edged sort – to the painkillers he’d been popping since 2001, as well as the demon drink.
The years haven’t been kind to poor old Payne, having grown jaded, cynical, depressed; while I truly miss the purple prose that was Max’s accompanying thoughts to the events of the old games, I think there is room for more than just that version of the character, which 3 is more than happy to oblige us with. It’s intriguing to see what has become of Max now, after his life had been turned upside down not once, not twice, but three fuckin’ times in the span of five years. Being forced to suffer such pain, the grief of losing the ones you love, and alone, no less – it changes you.

With the grittier writing comes the similarily no-nonsense gameplay. While Max can still shootdodge like it’s 2001, he’s restricted to a smaller arsenal – consisting of two sidearms at a time and one bigger weapon, also being able to dual wield, though in so doing being forced to throw away any rifle, shotgun, or what have you, currently held. I adore 3’s gunplay, just how the guns feel as they’re shot, the sound design... I have a hard time deciding whether I prefer the gameplay in 1 and 2 or in this game, and that is not a compliment paid lightly.
Something else that I absolutely love about this game is its soundtrack, it being among my absolute favorites, having turned me on to what is, since originally playing the game back in 2013, one of my favorite bands: HEALTH. The music really is so intrinsic to the experience that I couldn’t imagine this game without it. You truly realize the care put into this soundtrack in tracks like DEAD, which plays as Max visits the grave of his wife and daughter a final time, where the cries of Max’s daughter as heard in the original game’s nightmares can be made out in the mix; or in TEARS, a lament, almost, from Max’s loved ones, urging him to let them go as he defiantly stares death in the face. I truly believe this to be one of the best soundtracks ever, in video games and otherwise.
Max Payne 3 would prove to be a fitting final chapter for its titular character, and with the loss of James McCaffrey in 2023, that fact has become all the more definite. While I look forward to what Remedy do with the upcoming remakes of the original games, a part of me will never move on from James’ portrayal of this character, hell, James is Max – there’s no changing that for me.
And now, those same old tears promptly come running down my face.

Amazing, amazing, and amazing. This is what I wanted from Max Payne 2 I know it's an old game and I played it on PS2 as well as PC, but the immersion in this is just unbeatable.
Max Payne 3 is an incredible game that builds on everything the previous entries did so well.
The story, though set in Brazil, feels a bit different from the New York setting I loved, but I don’t hate it. It still delivers a dark, emotional narrative with intense moments and memorable characters. Sam Lake is my personal favorite face for Max Payne, though James McCaffrey truly elevates the character to the next level with his iconic voice, perfectly bringing Max Payne to life. The bullet time is satisfying as ever and the way enemies react to bullets in Max Payne 3 creates a realistic and intense combat experience. Overall, Max Payne 3 is a great game that delivers almost everything fans of the series could ask for.
Rockstar launcher makes this game an unplayable mess. If you like playing a game with unskippable cutscenes THAT WON'T LET YOU SAVE, then this is perfect for you!
Some truly fantastic gameplay paired with a generally enjoyable story. It's simultaneously so different and quite similar to its predecessors, shaking up things in the gameplay scene enough that I was quite engaged. As for the story, on the one hand, I enjoyed my time with it, but I really felt like Max didn't progress at all as a character-- like, he really didn't NEED to be the protagonist of this the way it had to be him in MP1&2, and while the presentation, animation, and performances were excellent I felt just as confused as Max most of the time as to who the hell we were shooting, and I never quite got that cleared up. It really didn't matter though, because god damn this game is fun, worth every buck I spent on it.
Don't get me wrong, the game is one of my favorites, but unfortunately is not playable anymore, and rockstar just don't care about it, one of the worst ports to pc ever made, the rockstar launcher just broke the game, if you want to play this game try another version, pc just don't work anymore.

It has been said many times before, but Max Payne 3 has some of the best gameplay of not only shooter games, but videogames in general. The gameplay here is absolutely perfect, and is some of the most satisfying and fun gameplay you will ever see. The controls work perfectly, and using your mouse to pop headshots feels so immensely satisfying, which is improved by how incredibly responsive the shooting and gunplay feels. If you are looking for something that is fun to play, you will definitely not be disappointed with Max Payne 3.

The story here is subpar. While it certainly does give you plenty of things to shoot, the plot itself is quite terrible. It is generic, (mostly) predictable, and it really isn't anything special. Mission variety is great, however, the colorful setting of Brazil directly contradicts how dark and depressing the story is. New York would have been a far better setting for this. Otherwise, Max Payne himself is a very well-written character, and his dialogue is great, and he's played fantastically by James Mcaffrey. Other characters, however, are mostly one-note and you won't ever care for any of them.

Notes: I think $19.99 is a reasonable price here. That being said, I would perhaps consider $14.99 to be the most reasonable. The story here is short, and you'll finish it in around 8 hours. However, the game is insanely replayable, and you will play the campaign multiple times, mainly due to the amazing gameplay. The multiplayer component, while fun, is not active today. If you can play it with a group of friends, you'll have a great time, but otherwise, it is not active at all. Other side modes are limited, and the most you will find will be the "arcade" mode. While certainly a fun distraction, it's nothing you'll play for a long time. Overall, this is a good package for $19.99, especially considering the fantastic gameplay. However, I doubt that you'll play it for more than 20 hours, and there is not that much content (at least not today) for you to enjoy.

Shooting in this game is smooth and nice in it's own way. Graphics is good in most of the places. Story is awesome and nail biting. Must recommended.
Overall, Max Payne 3 manages to stay true to the elements that made the first two chapters so beloved by fans. The dark atmosphere, intense action, and engaging storytelling are all present, with significantly improved visuals and gameplay.
However, the first two games unfortunately suffered from several bugs that made them difficult, if not outright unplayable, as was the case with the first chapter. Despite these issues, the charm of the series remained intact.
Despite some negative aspects, such as a less inspired story, Max Payne 3 is still a game worth playing, especially for fans of the saga who want to see how Max's journey comes to an end.

Good story, great gunfight with bullet-time elements, graphics are still fine. It gives you a pristine raw picture of Brazilian slums that you really wouldn't want to get into in real life. Regarding its age I would say one of the best TPS. If only more games aged that good. Definitely a must play.
Damn fine installment in the Max Payne series. Great story that could easily be made into a blockbuster. The game has a new engine compared to the first two games. The animation and effects are beyond its time and dont' feel dated at all. The physics in the game are amazing as well, and the shooting is without end! Definitely a worthy addition to any gamer's collection.
The second-best Max Payne game. It's a lot better than MP2, but worse than MP1 (both of which I've also reviewed on Steam). People complain about the cutscenes--that there are too many and they're too long--but I didn't mind them at all. First, they're really well done--why can AAA slop devs today not manage to make cutscenes this good even though all they try to produce are shitty interactive movies instead of real games? I briefly played, and rapidly refunded, the new dogshit Indiana Jones game, and it has nothing on MP3 in this regard (or any other). Second, the gameplay is challenging enough that I felt like every cutscene was a nice little break/reward for getting through the last bit of combat. I never felt like I was being annoyingly taken out of the game.
I have to say that it doesn't feel much like a Max Payne game as far as the gameplay goes. MP1 and MP2 fights are almost all done at close quarters. But in MP3, the emphasis is on speed and accuracy, picking off enemy heads from a distance before the bad guys can get near you and fuck you up, which they'll do really fast if you don't kill them quickly. There's also the shitty 360-era cover mechanic: don't use it. For the most part, you can avoid going into cover and also leave cover as soon as the game puts you in it after a cutscene. It makes the game a lot more difficult but way more enjoyable. The cover mechanic for third-person shooters was never anything but devs trying to accommodate games that require (even moderately) careful aiming to shitty console gamepads. Look up online how to edit the settings in MP3 to make it play like MP1, and just avoid using cover. Use shootdodge a lot instead.
The weakness of the game comes down to the lack of variety in the combat, and the gameplay is all combat. Throughout MP3, the point is to pick off enemy heads as fast as possible. And apart from shotguns, which end up being practically useless, you can do that just as well with pretty much any gun (biggest factor making a difference is the size of the gun's magazine, really). You can play the whole game with a basic pistol and it won't be much different than if you use other guns instead, but this depends on your accuracy. In MP1 and MP2, your choice of weapons to use had a big effect--including grenades and molotovs, which are completely absent in MP3 singleplayer (so there are no throwable weapons in the SP part of the game, which sucks ass--but enemies have grenades anyway).
Also, the intensity of the game oddly fell off toward the end--it seemed like the late middle part of the game was harder than the end, which was kind of underwhelming.
One last thing to mention is that the enemy AI is way better than what you'll find in almost all action games released in the past several years. Another mystery: why can't AAA slop devs today make AI that isn't rancid dogshit when we had AI this good in 2012 (not to mention even earlier--FEAR had really good AI in 2005, for example)? Enemies will usually avoid running right at you and making themselves targets. They'll hang back, use cover, flank, try to flush you out of your position with grenades, etc. There were a couple times I saw an enemy throw a grenade, immediately run right into the grenade he just threw, and kill himself--so it's not like they don't do dumb shit sometimes, unfortunately.
Overall, an awesome game. The fights are very fun and always kept me on edge. I never felt like I could relax during combat--there's always the risk of instantly dying if an enemy lands a headshot on you. There was one part where I kept dying over and over, but somehow I never got frustrated. The combat is so good even dying is fine because you get to do the badass fights over again. Even if it doesn't play much like a Max Payne game, I don't see how anyone can reasonably complain about that given how good MP3 is, and considering that MP2 was such a letdown.
Let us be a warning to everyone. DO NOT BUY RICKSTAR GAMES! If you happen to have any issues with your purchases, you are totally out of luck. They will not help you. They are theaves!!. I have several rock star games through steam. These games are associated with an old email account. Every game I buy is associated with this old email account. I have contacted rockstar several times to correct this they absolutely refuse. Recently, they updated and required me to log into my old email to confirm my account. This is obviously not possible because the account no longer exist. Contacting rockstar, they made me jump through so many hoops, screenshots, receipts, only to require me in the end to log into that email and confirm. So their solution to me not being able to confirm my account is to log into an email address that doesn't exist. They absolutely REFUSE to listen to me or hear my story. The stole my money as well as thousands of others, Google it.
Rockstar is not a company to do business with. You have been warned.
I love the Max Payne series and this game as well!
Buuuuut the antagonist, Victor Branco, his goal is very confusing. Like every time I play the game, I always have to look up on what the hell is Victor's goal and why he's killing his entire family. All I got is that he's doing it to "increase his own political power." Which I'm sure you don't need to kill your fucking family for that. It just seems he did it cause "Why not" and "he's evil for evil sake" sort of thing.
Besides the plot, I give the game a 10/10
