You're a man who's run out of all 3 and on a downward spiral, I first played this on the Xbox 360 as a twin disc physical game and it became my fourth favorite Rockstar game ( RDR2, GTA IV, RDR, This) soley because of the vibes. The gun play and everything else is a nice touch. A brutal sun stroke induced haze sets over you, the screen warps and shakes, probably the years of abusing alcohol and pain medication, maybe it's caught up to you before the hundreds of people who want you dead, funny. Max Payne 3 is a perfect sendoff and sequel to 1 and 2, shoot dodging is heavily improved upon feeling the most fluid it ever has, the levels of environmental destruction here make it feel like prime action movie. If I had one complaint which, not really an issue here is that it's maybe too fun, when playing Kane and Lynch 2 I realized that it's far easier in that game to revel in the horrific carnage and wanton destruction, mostly due to the dogshit game play, your guns are horribly inaccurate, your screen shakes violently as you play, loud enough sounds blow out and destroy your camera man's speakers and all you have to do is go from cover to cover and shoot, it's a cover shooter, that's all it is. Overall though Max Payne 3 is a perfectly enjoyable game with plenty to offer still today, 20 is a fair price but you should probably wait for a sale and maybe snag all 3.
This is just a straight up great game that comes from a time where video games didnt have an ideology to shove down your throat. Just good old fashioned fun.

I do recommend this game purely for the fun shoot em' up gameplay and fast action. BUT if youre a huge Max Payne fan, like myself, you are probably going to be disappointed with the story and direction Rockstar decided to take Max after Sam Lake (games designer and writer) and REMEDY Entertainment stepped away from the series. Dan Hauser does an OK imitation of the style Sam Lake had established, but misses the mark when it comes to crafting a story and presentation that feels truly "Cop Noir" like the previous 2 games.
The focus now is on making it as action packed as possible, sometimes at the cost of good story telling. It doesnt feel like the ending of a trilogy that followed the same character, it feels like a completely different version of Max. Outside of a few flashbacks in New York and brief mentions of characters such as Mona or his Wife and Daughter, this is a borderline reboot of the series in how different the game is from the original 2 both presentation wise, with its massive action set pieces, lack of gritty comic book style noir dialogue - instead replaced by weird Tony Scott style editing and frantic camera cuts, and objectively worse written dialogue. It feels WAY closer to a Grand Theft Auto spin off, than a sequel to Max Payne 2 in that regard, and that is due to the design style change from Sam Lake to Dan Hauser and Rockstar Team.
TLDR; Its a fun great game, but maybe a bad sequel to Max Payne 2 - - - 3.5/5 its worth playing
Game crashes over and over and over. I don't have any issues playing newer games. Just this one.
My god does this game like to hear itself talk. A movie interspersed with occasional gameplay sequences that sometimes consist of literally walking 5 seconds from door to door to trigger the next cutscene. Absolutely the peak of treating players like a passive movie audience, way worse than some of Call Of Duty's craziest excesses. It's a game, let me play it. And maybe shut up for just a second, especially with writing that isn't near as clever or cOoL as it thinks it is. The gameplay WAS fun, whenever it happened, the checkpoint placement was at times randomly punishing and the level design had some great highlights (favela level) but also some real stinkers (airport).
Genuinely orgasmic. One of the most fun of this type of cinematic third person shooter, the bullet time is so good. The story, while nothing too insane, worked well and Max himself was awesome. Final segment goes so hard. Play this game.

Played for the first time as I got through the first two Max Payne games and this is so well made. Story is really good and interesting, gameplay is fun but challenging, graphics amazing and the soundtrack is on point. Controls are really handy and easy to play with. Even though the levels' scheme is easy to anticipate, the game is not feeling boring at all, thanks to the fun gameplay overall.
Occasionally the game had some graphical bugs, but that not really took from the fun. Also, if you expect Max Payne 3 is gonna be a more dark and depressed experiences, you will be a bit surprised. It has it's dark moments, but mood wise the game is not like the first two ones.
I really like the first and second Max Payne, but honestly this is my favorite one from the series. If you are the fan of the GTA 5 weapon models and shooting mechanics, then this game is for you. I can definitely recommend this game to get, although I would get it for 15€ or cheaper.
Best 3rd shooter game out there. Bullet time is absolutelly amazing and does not get old!

PS If you easily angered by AI this game not for you. It just suckass to play it with crashes to boot it up. Too many cutscenes and the game so unfair on every difficulty. It not about you can dodge 1 or 2. It just AI have high accuracy, high damage and so little painkillers. Plus you get ganged up from all side and throwing grenade like come on. Also there is "protect your vehicle at all cost" moment in this game. or else you will start again at checkpoint which is literally start of the chase. It so stupid. give back my damn money.
I can't think of a more generic story with more generic dialogue, but my god is shooting minorities as The Great American Savior of the Poor fun.
its a really good game, but the pause bug is very annoying and i cant seem to find a fix anywhere. Other than that, its a masterpiece
Honestly, the most fun gunplay in any game, period. Max himself can be too talkative, and depressing, but the game fun as hell.
This game is absolutely frying my eyeballs with all the glitch effects and chromatic aberration it uses in every single cutscene. But it's still a great time, and a worthy sequel to the original games in spite of lacking that distinct Remedy touch (and the comic book sequences).
Max whines too much about the same things over and over, and because the animation system is now forced to be flush and fluid, the controls and camera feel less responsive than in previous games.
Apart from that it's everything you would hope for from a high-budget Max Payne sequel almost a decade after MP2.
It also has a few small collectables this time round, not to mention a bit of a sense of humour.
I actually enjoyed my time more than Max Payne 2.
Sure, this was developed purely by Rockstar. This absolutely doesn't feel like a Remedy game... but it gets nicely close to what they probably would've done. Granted, it doesn't feel that connected to the past two games.
I liked what they tried to do, and it pretty nicely on my machine. One crash and one funny graphical error since it didn't stop my game.
I absolutely say give it a shot. They understood the source material enough that I can proudly say it is a worthy sequel. Hopefully the upcoming remakes can allow a fourth game... maybe.

Game has a solid story. Pure Carnage, great gun play. Has all you want in a shooter. Explosive action the whole game.
best action game there is...the only negative is on some levels there are too many cut-scenes that break up the game play

It could easily be considered one of my top five favorite games ever played. Just with how good the shooting mechanics are, it makes you feel like John Wick hunting down that mf dog murderer. I think even at full price, the game is worth 10x as much as any new-gen game, just from the amount of fun you'll have running around and making cool ass slow-mo dives.

With the End of Max Payne 3 came the death of the franchise, or so we thought. Now Max Payne 1 & 2 are being remade on a new engine I can only hope this game gets the same respect.

Honestly one my favorite games of all time. It's been like 10 years now and i still play through the story from time to time. It's a bit sad that there are so many multiplayer achievments, wich means i'll never reach a 100% completion but that doesn't ruin the game for me.
Can't rec in 2024. Poorly optimized to the extent that the resolution drops to something like 480x760 for "artistic" or "stylistic" cut scenes. It's frankly annoying. It's like playing an older, less polished GTA5 with just the gunplay.
One of the best action games I have ever played. Worthy in the line of MP games. Highly highly recommended.
Rockstar after creating fun and creative gunplay mechanics only to never use them again. Give Max a break but please bring back the gunplay I beg of you.

ive finished this game, and it just isn't really max payne
its a great game don't get me wrong, like the physics and overall like slow-mo action gameplay is amazing and is engaging until the very end, and jumping around the place with a uzi and deagle and hitting walls, jumping into enemies is awesome and is a big improvement on gameplay from the first one. but the story really just drifts away from what made max payne 1 really great.
real time cutscenes, replace the comic book strips from the originals, the dark heavy weather streets of new york, have been replaced with max in brazil. full sunny daylight and perfect clear weather, max going bald.. and fat.. its a really good game. its really fun don't get me wrong, but its not max payne. it feels like a entirely different rockstar ip.
The story is kinda ehh compared to 1 and 2, but as someone who played this first, its not horrible. The gameplay is what really carries the title though. The shooting feels amazing, guns sound crisp and meaty, and the gore is wonderful even for its date. Great game if you want to kill some time over a weekend, or a week if you playthrough the game on hard (Don't get me started on fucking old school)

Almost 90% of this game is cutscenes. You are actually playing the game maybe 30 seconds to a couple minutes at a time before being forced into another un-skippable 5 minute cut scene which usually consists of guy or guys walking from one place to another with the most basic dialogue that contributes nothing to the story or characters.
sick slow motion shooting, but progressively fails to protect an entire family
A Max Payne sequel this is not. The setting, the tone, and the main character are as far removed from MP 1 and 2 as they can be. Even the voice actor was initially supposed to be different (RIP James McCaffrey). Why would you buy the IP, and then turn the brooding, introspective New York detective into a bald cynical bodyguard in Brazil in a plot that doesn't really evolve the character.
It is, though, a pretty good game. The gameplay is still some of Rockstars' best, with very nice setpieces. Plus if you speak Portuguese it is funny to hear the combination of native Brazilians, Portuguese people, and very non-native speakers in the slums of Sao Paulo. Bad sequel, good game.

What a fantastic game, it has been a while since I played it, but this time around I think I enjoyed it more. This game still stands up to everything today, graphically and the story is engaging and kept me hooked until the end. Quality product from Rockstar, the graphics were stand out and the semi-destructible environments added to the ambience of the destruction that Max causes. What a stand out game that I hope Rockstar revisits and brings another chapter for Max Payne.
Miss the good old days! Solid story that just keeps you engaged. Max Payne 3 is probably the worst of the 3 in terms of story telling but still so good compared to anything we get now days.
get it on sale, alot of fun , the story was expected but I had fun playing this.
