This game has the nostalgia, it is amazing.
Great story
Great combat
Great gameplay
Even if you haven't played the old games you can still enjoy it

Honestly one my favorite games of all time. It's been like 10 years now and i still play through the story from time to time. It's a bit sad that there are so many multiplayer achievments, wich means i'll never reach a 100% completion but that doesn't ruin the game for me.

Can't rec in 2024. Poorly optimized to the extent that the resolution drops to something like 480x760 for "artistic" or "stylistic" cut scenes. It's frankly annoying. It's like playing an older, less polished GTA5 with just the gunplay.

One of the best action games I have ever played. Worthy in the line of MP games. Highly highly recommended.

Rockstar after creating fun and creative gunplay mechanics only to never use them again. Give Max a break but please bring back the gunplay I beg of you.

- Decent story but can’t keep up with the events, but it’s smart how the plot justifies it’s gameplay

- The most linear game ever, no customisation to anything whatsoever
- Basically a game meant for people who don’t care about the story and just what to shoot bad guys
- Would’ve loved the online but no one plays it
- Insanely underrated game

ive finished this game, and it just isn't really max payne

its a great game don't get me wrong, like the physics and overall like slow-mo action gameplay is amazing and is engaging until the very end, and jumping around the place with a uzi and deagle and hitting walls, jumping into enemies is awesome and is a big improvement on gameplay from the first one. but the story really just drifts away from what made max payne 1 really great.

real time cutscenes, replace the comic book strips from the originals, the dark heavy weather streets of new york, have been replaced with max in brazil. full sunny daylight and perfect clear weather, max going bald.. and fat.. its a really good game. its really fun don't get me wrong, but its not max payne. it feels like a entirely different rockstar ip.

The story is kinda ehh compared to 1 and 2, but as someone who played this first, its not horrible. The gameplay is what really carries the title though. The shooting feels amazing, guns sound crisp and meaty, and the gore is wonderful even for its date. Great game if you want to kill some time over a weekend, or a week if you playthrough the game on hard (Don't get me started on fucking old school)

my brother downloaded a pirated version bc of the geopolitical problems we were never able to buy game’s i like but after couple years i was finally able to buy this game

Almost 90% of this game is cutscenes. You are actually playing the game maybe 30 seconds to a couple minutes at a time before being forced into another un-skippable 5 minute cut scene which usually consists of guy or guys walking from one place to another with the most basic dialogue that contributes nothing to the story or characters.

sick slow motion shooting, but progressively fails to protect an entire family

A Max Payne sequel this is not. The setting, the tone, and the main character are as far removed from MP 1 and 2 as they can be. Even the voice actor was initially supposed to be different (RIP James McCaffrey). Why would you buy the IP, and then turn the brooding, introspective New York detective into a bald cynical bodyguard in Brazil in a plot that doesn't really evolve the character.
It is, though, a pretty good game. The gameplay is still some of Rockstars' best, with very nice setpieces. Plus if you speak Portuguese it is funny to hear the combination of native Brazilians, Portuguese people, and very non-native speakers in the slums of Sao Paulo. Bad sequel, good game.

Great shooter with satisfying gameplay, a solid story, and a fantastic close to Max's story. Rockstar knows what they're doing.

What a fantastic game, it has been a while since I played it, but this time around I think I enjoyed it more. This game still stands up to everything today, graphically and the story is engaging and kept me hooked until the end. Quality product from Rockstar, the graphics were stand out and the semi-destructible environments added to the ambience of the destruction that Max causes. What a stand out game that I hope Rockstar revisits and brings another chapter for Max Payne.

Miss the good old days! Solid story that just keeps you engaged. Max Payne 3 is probably the worst of the 3 in terms of story telling but still so good compared to anything we get now days.

6.5/10 played in 2024 decent story and nice game-play but it gets old real fast.
game is short about 9h, if it was longer i would probably give it up.
main issue is that the game crushed A LOT.

I have already played the previous two and this game, but couldn't stop myself from playing this game again.

never played the series and am glad i gave it a shot really fun and the story was pretty cool for never knowing the series chill game

Gameplay isn't as fun as mp1&2 but it kinda makes sense, because Max is getting old and his self destruction is at an all time high :/ He isn’t as agile and his bullet time doesn’t last as long. I think the devs wanted players to utilize the cover mechanic because of this but I don’t really find that fun. Atleast the guns are way better. They feel more satisfying to use and are way more accurate which incentivizes to go for headshots unlike in the previous game where you aim at their general direction. Bullet time although as mentioned doesn’t last as long is still pretty op as it should be.

The story is really good imo. I know some people don't like it, but I personally really like how Max is written here and James McCaffrey's performance here was just godly, a shame he's gone always wanted to meet him ;~;

Max Payne's struggles are real af in the game and make me wonder abt my own struggles. His arc was very beautiful and inspiring to see. Also I just adore some of his lines, they still give me a chuckle

As a big fan of the first to games, this was really disappointing. Rockstar was way too busy making this a Rockstar game, to capture what made the to first games great. The main problem I have is that in its effort to be beautiful (which it is), they also made it very cinematic with constant cutscenes. This is very annoying as it totally ruins any flow. You can skip cutscenes, but it still intrudes on the gameplay. The game also constantly slows you down, so you cant go blasting through doors in bullettime, even when there is not a cutscene. Even though the cutscenes look great, it constantly shows me action I cant get in on (at least for a few seconds). Another big problem is that regularly, there are "setpieces". This means that I cant decide how to blast my way through the enemies, but have to do what the game forces me to do. I want to choose when to use bullettime, not be prompted by the game. I should have the choice to decide if I want to use bullettime, and also if I want to dodge or not at same time. If I had the choice, I would also have the oppurtunity to choose the angle of attack etc. To sum this point up: much less player agency, and no flow.

Another thing I dont like is that the movement is very weighted. I dont need it to be as "floaty" as the first games were, but this is too much for Max Payne. It impedes the ability to do the crazy action movie moves. This is another example of how Rockstar was to busy making a Rockstar game, to make decisions that would make a good Max Payne game.

If you want a cinematic action shooter with bullettime, it is a good Rockstar game with those elements. However, it does not make a good Max Payne game, unfortuently. To be clear about this review, I dont recommend this game to those looking for Max Payne, but i could recommend it to someone who wants to play a cinematic Rockstar game with bullettime.

PS: I am not commenting on the story, because i did not finish the game. I did not want to, because of the issues I have with the gameplay. It took away the fun for me, and I have no reason to believe that would change. Ofcourse I cant say if the story is good or bad without finishing it, but it is inescapeable that the context of the story is enough to detract from the ending of the second game. Hard to imagine any Max Payne 3 story not doing that, so I dont really fault the game for that. It seems it would be the price of getting anymore Max Payne, no matter which story they decided to tell.

great story, still great graphics, seriously looks like something that could've came out last year or something.

this game is basically an action John Wick movie before John wick aside from Rdr2 and the Gta series but the combat is great! this game is very recommended to grind hours for it

first playthrough was only 8 hrs. still a good game imo.
pretty impressed how the game looks in terms of how old it is.
10/10 on sale i think its a steal.
only bad thing is the rockstar client is needed to play the game. i hope one day you jsut connect the accounts together and other clients are not necessary

It's evidently not the same game or even the same character from the original games, but it is still fun enough.. if you are a fan of movies like Tropa de Elite and City of God.

I've been wanting to play this game for 10 years now, and it was worth the hype, the story, the game play, THE LEVELS
Every Max Payne game had Amazing level design and an interesting unique location for each level and this game is the peak of that! Every single level takes you through a unique set piece and makes you shoot your way through cinematic and creative scenarios

Not the way I expected Max to continue the journey - going through midlife crisis rather than through the loss of his loved ones, but they kept epic slow-motion side jump akimbo shooting, so I'll get over it.

Liked the shooting system and the cinematic camera, although it requires to download Rockstar launcher which is pretty annoying.

a great 3rd person shooter that hasn't aged 12 years later. i do miss the humour and horror from the previous 2 games though.

Awesome Story, I liked how the story came to an end after the previous 2 parts of max payne. If you have played the previous 2 parts i bet that You will love this game. ohhh and the action and the music in this game is amazing especially at the airport mission that was breathtaking momment

This game holds up. The gameplay is the standout with how realistic the physics are and how fun the action is. You'll find yourself wanting to come back and play it again. The soundtrack is also a primo!

An incredible game with unique style of shooting mechanics paired with a heart-wrenching storyline. Rest in peace James McCaffrey, he gave a stellar performance on Max Payne's character which brought the character to life, shining throughout the entire game.

I'm giving this game a 8.75/10 and I highly recommend playing it!

Genuinely the worst multiplayer every, but a fun and enjoyable single-player campaign. Shooting the enemies in the testicles is entertaining, as well as the fact that you cant skip 75% of the cutscenes. Although, I feel it's worth watching the awful, campy cutscenes just for the fact that you know there's some sick ass gameplay waiting for you when it's done. If you like GTA or just any other main Rockstar game that fits their criteria, you'll like this one.

Forced Rockstar Launcher integration has seemingly broken the autosave system, if you simply quit out of the game it will not save your progress, lest you MANUALLY EXIT A LEVEL TO THE MENU EVERYTIME YOU NEED PROGRESS SAVED.

Payed 60 dollars for this game in 2012 and it worked great until they forced ANOTHER LAUNCHER onto Steam users, this is getting ridiculous at this point. I click play and I have to wait 20 seconds for Rockstar to boot, and it doesn't even launch the game sometimes. This company has like 6 "Modern games" on PC and releases a game every decade, why do they need a launcher, let alone a launcher for a 12 year old game?

this is a very good game
plot is a bit overused but the guns feel great and the bullet cam and slow motion make it feel very cinematic
max payne is a great main character and is the perfect bodyguard to play as
gore is good and makes it feel realistic
missions are fun and this game is pretty long

really well made game with lots of fun shootouts and action sequences. the story is also great.

I played the first two way back when and saw this was on sale for $5 and decided to pick it up and play it straight through. There were a couple issues with audio - the sound would come from both my headset and my speakers which was annoying. Then there were several times the game crashed for no reason. The story was okay, exactly what you would picture a Max Payne story to be. The best part of this game is the slow motion shooting mode. This one didn't have the same slow motion appeal/impact as the first two but still an awesome feature.

I would rate this a good 6.5 maybe 7

I've played this game when I was 13 and really enjoyed it. I also somewhat learned Portuguese and speak it too because of this game. And now, I get called a Brazilian (due to my accent speaking Brazilian Portuguese) even tho I am Australian. xD

But yeah, I think I admire this game so much, this game is like ... what? Bloody 12 years old now xD. Still a good game. The graphics, the gameplay, the soundtrack are f##kin' amazing. I recommend this game so much! Really, I really do. Great game, I love it. 10/10 (also RIP James McCaffrey. He wasn't Max Payne, he IS Max Payne. Payne to the Max.)
