Wooden Sen'SeY is an action-platformer, set in a unique "Japan Steam Rock" universe filled with humour.
You follow Goro, a village chief, as he seeks revenge through a variety of levels. He will defeat his enemies using his axes to slice, dice, squash and grapple!

INT. GAME ROOM - DAY

WALTER WHITE is sitting at a large gaming console, controller in hand, with his Heisenberg hat and shades. JESSE PINKMAN is next to him, wearing his signature beanie, looking confused. HANK SCHRADER, in his DEA vest, watches from behind, while SAUL GOODMAN sits to the side, dressed in a loud suit. GUS FRING remains impeccably dressed, as usual.

Across the room, the AKATSUKI are watching the game unfold. PAIN, ITACHI, DEIDARA, SASORI, and ZETSU stand at various spots, observing and commenting. TUCO and LALO SALAMANCA are by the snack table, glaring at each other while grabbing handfuls of chips.

JESSE PINKMAN
Yo, Mr. White, this grappling thing is like trying to grab a cat by the tail. It’s all over the place!

WALTER WHITE
Jesse, I am the one who grapples. It’s all about precision. Timing is key. Focus.

HANK SCHRADER (laughing)
Yeah, sure, Walt. You're the one who grapples—straight into the pit. You need to relax a bit, man.

SAUL GOODMAN

Gentlemen, let’s focus on the task at hand. Victory requires discipline and calmness.

DEIDARA
Hey, you guys are talking too much. This game's all about explosions! Boom! That's art, right, Sasori?

SASORI
Deidara, not everything is art. Sometimes, you need precision. You should know that by now.

PAIN
Focus. Discipline is key. Itachi, help Jesse with the game. Keep him from falling into the pits.

ITACHI
Jesse, would you like me to use my Sharingan to help you? I can slow down time if you need a little boost.

TOBI (bouncing around)
Itachi-senpai's got magic eyes! I wanna see! Can I try, Itachi? Wheee!

KONAN
Tobi, settle down. We’re not here for a circus. Itachi’s offering to help, not put on a show.

SAUL GOODMAN
Yeah, Tobi, keep the magic to a minimum. If you break the game, it's coming out of my retainer.

HIDAN (swinging his scythe)
Jesse, you should join Jashinism! All you need is a bit of blood and a whole lotta faith. It'll be fun!

As the banter continues, the group focuses back on the game, trying to get through the level without falling into pits or breaking the console. It’s chaotic but strangely fun, with everyone contributing their unique brand of madness to the mix. Despite the distractions, they all manage to find common ground in their shared goal of finishing the game.

Le jeu est vraiment spécial. Un jeu de plate forme de ce qui a de plus commun mais avec un gameplay relativement plat.

Une jouabilité correcte mais restreinte dans les actions.

Quelques bonnes idées dans le concept (Design, audio) mais il manque pas mal d'interactivité avec les décors et Pnj.

D'ailleurs cela nuit considérablement à la compréhension et lecture des niveaux malgré leur simplicité en général.

L'ennui rend les tableaux long et fait grandir l'espoir d'avoir mieux.

Le jeu est peu cher mais les petits détails auraient sûrement le titre plus appréciable.

Je le garderai de côté lorsque je n'aurai rien d'autre à finir

An amateur platformer that often demands more precision than its programming can provide. A lot of unfair insta death and wild goose chases to try to get that 100%. Also one of the many games that has an extra-life system that doesn't serve any purpose. I'll give these guys props for a hookshot that works quite decently though.

The conrtols are bonkers! Q for left instead of A. I can't even play this! OMG! Oh wait, I can change them to normal wasd, cool beans this game is awesome!

It's a fun little platformer game really.

don't wanna sound rude or anything but gladly I got this on sale or through bundle sites

this game ain't all that bad but: you guessed right... meh

maybe it's good that you are allowed to "touch" most enemies unless they do something attack-ish .. but the fighting itself is rather .. meh

I almost thought about quitting.. when the grappling axe ceiling stuff came in .. that swinging momentum might make the game somewhat "faster" .. but if they claim this game was like pow chuu fast .. meh.

the stomp can help in many situations but then again stomping all the time for best results? hmm .. meh

at the end of each level I lacked around 1 bottle or enemy why trying to kill all of them already felt "meh"

I never really used this term before but since I don't wanna be all too cricital because it's not a !§%T§ oh my I spent more than no money on this and some time too .. no, it's not that awful but it's

meh

since the average rating is mixed, and probably wouldn't be affected if I hit no..

I'll say .. go.. for a few euroes .. but on the whole: meh - if you don't have all day for games I guess you might as well play many other platformers first :P and then go "meh" ([for] yourself?) on this one maybe...

A really fun, short game. It's colourful, wacky, and cute. There's a fair bit of variation between levels and the levels aren't overly long, so it's hard to get bored. The music isn't bad, it's quite fun - but if you're replaying a level it does become a bit grating because the music itself is highly repetitive. I like that the SeY bottles you collect are clearly placed, so you don't have to spend a lot of time searching them out, something I found annoying in other platformer games like this.

I feel like the makers of the game probably really enjoyed making it and put in a lot of effort.

Worth getting for the standard price, definitely get it on sale.

I'm far enough into the game that I feel I can write a solid review of it, might edit later.

What is there to like about this game? At all?
It occasionally toys with a few decent platforming ideas, I guess. The graphics are passable.

...

That's... about it. There's not much else to redeem it.
For starters, the music is godawful and the sound FX even worse - I had to mute the FX because they gave me a headache, they're that bad. If the problems ended there maybe I'd be okay with it.
Good thing the game's just shoddily put together as a whole.
First, bugs. Enemies sometimes don't seem to take damage; have had to land 5 hits on enemies that normally take 2, and I have no clue why. As well, the springs sometimes decide to send you flying in not quite the right direction. Usually you need to be holding an arrow to even have a chance of going to the right spot, but even then it's not 100% you'll get where you need to go. And I've gotten stuck/forced to restart levels in combat scenarios by killing the last enemy too quickly such that it doesn't trigger the battle's end. Which is great.
The interface, also, is worth mentioning. You can't restart a level from inside the level, you have to exit to the main menu, choose the chapter you were at (always starts at the prologue so you get to scroll every time) and only then can you restart. What should take less than a second takes something like 15, The time attack menu isn't any better either. From one time attack level, you cannot access the previous or next, you have to exit to the menu and manually select it. And there's an incredibly long ~5 second countdown before each time attack attempt, where the levels range from 6-15 seconds. That's waaaay too long of a countdown. Go look at Dustforce for how to do that countdown right, ugh. And you don't even start on "Go", you have to wait a second or so after that.
The game also sets its standards way too high for the shoddiness of the controls. Speedrun times are only barely possible after extensive practice and usually require some luck to not get the game to screw up in one way or another. The time attack challenges are also picky by milliseconds, way tighter than they have any right to be. There's no in-level indicator of collectibles or monsters killed, too, so you can never be sure if you missed something until the end. And the levels can go on pretty long your first time through.
Also there's a lives system which is completely out of place for how long the levels are, definitely.
Level 3 is an underwater level in an absolutely awful submarine thing, that has a huge hitbox and tiny bullets, and can only move up by hammering the space key. There's an instance in the level that is literally impossible to get past without taking damage near the end if you arrive at it from a fresh run (i.e. not after dying and reloading at a checkpoint) which is just beautiful. Honestly this level does nothing for the game anyways, I don't see why it exists.
The game runs out of ideas fairly quickly, as well. I've played through level 5, and while the first four levels all add at least something (well, not really level 3), all level 5 adds is... an incredibly irritating palette to create a darkness effect it does nothing with. There's no other new obstacles, it's very tedious and dull. I hope the last four levels at least have something else I'm really going to get bored.
Honestly, the fact that the game is apparently pretty short might work in its favor. I'd hate it even more if I knew I had 20+ more levels to slog through as opposed to only 4.5 more (still have to speedrun level 5, whatever.) The time attack levels are, aside from their strictness, somewhat enjoyable though, 30 of them and they're all pretty short but usually toy with a decent idea, I've played half of them to gold medal status and all.
I'll probably finish this game but I don't have to be a psychic to predict that my early judgment isn't going to change by the time I do complete it, there's no way to redeem this one.

This game is insane. It's playful and funny and beautiful on one hand, but on the other one it's a hardore platformer that will cause you to lose all your hair and smash your keyboard. So why get it? It has great music and visuals. It's entertaining and funny. It is a challenge to finish it. There's a simple story with which most of us can relate ("They stole our booze!"). If you're a man (or a woman) ready for a frustrating, but rewarding gaming challenge, get it.

What a superb game!! Nice feel to the controls colourful characters. Nearly as fun as Gunman Clive!!! Buy it or I casserole your gran!! Maybe stick a deck chair up your nose...hold a chicken in the air... sing along I know you want to!

NEVER HAVE I hated a game so much, this game seriously gets you killed every 3 seconds, I cannot even survive even by standing still, the enemy have a huge advantage and there is a trap everywhere, Never once have i wanted a game to go away but i seriously hope this game gets deleted, I feel like crying from the amount of times I have died constantly, this game shows no mercy. If you like dying 24/7 play this game but otherwise save yourself and dont BUY THIS GAME.

Pretty neat platformer, gameplay is pretty solid. Various moves/attacks available, with time attack, leaderboards. You get a couple extra lives per level to restart from last checkpoint, after those extra lives are up you have to restart the level. You can find extra lives as pickup items in a few places per level usually in harder/trickier to reach places.

Levels take a few minutes to clear, there are hidden/hard to reach extra lives and collectibles throughout each level. On level completion you get to see % of enemies killed, 'sey' collected and a few other stats.

My one complaint so far is that there is this 'boost jump' move that, on an xbox controller is "A" followed by "down on movement stick" combined with "X" button. This move is required to jump higher to reach/attack a lot of things so it seems like an oversight not to allow it to be seperately customizable as a key or button.

That said, overall recommended if you like platformers with enemies and 'gotta catch em all' collectibles as an optional goal for each level.

Wooden Sen'sey is action-platforming game where you play as a Japanese village chief who's sake is stolen by evil, space bandits, and its up to you to get all that wonderful rice-liquor back. The moral of the story is pretty straight-forward, never steal a Japanese-man's sake, but especially if that same man is going to hunt your ass down Kratos-style with his twin, chain-linked axes to boot!

Graphics

For a simple platforming game, I gotta say, I'm impressed. The visual over the top style of the animations mixed with the seren background imagery gives Wooden Sen'sey a real reason to stand out . With a varitey of resolution options and graphic presets the game give you just enough in options to really optimize you game experience, and Even on low settings this game looks pretty good. My littlefavorite touch was simply the reflections on the water. Its subtle touch but nice one that adds a little life to the background.

Audio

All in all the music was pleasant to listen to and didn't feel out of place which I applaud upper byte for, considering that the game is a mix of Japanese tradionism and steampunk. Though the dialogue wasn't much of anything, I found the over the top japanese acent to be rather humorous, much in the same way a funny character in a kaboki theater play would exaggerate his voice. Reminding you that the game is meant to be funny and fun, even though you will probably die. a lot.
