Joining the USA’s most populated city, New York, to Connecticut’s second largest city, New Haven, the original line was completed in 1849; classic American steam trains were the first to use the line before it was electrified in the early 20th century. It also forms part of the longer Northeast Corridor, which runs from Boston to Washington D.C.
The 75 mile (120km) route for Train Simulator features two of New York’s most famous train terminals, Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station, both within four blocks of each other but serving two different routes through The Big Apple.
The stunning and imperious Grand Central Station in New York – once home to the great passenger trains of the New York Central - is Metro-North’s southernmost point of its Harlem Line. An underground station, trains depart Grand Central via the Park Avenue Tunnel and Park Avenue Viaduct to Harlem along third-rail lines towards Mount Vernon and New Rochelle.
New York Penn Station – otherwise known as Pennsylvania Station – is Amtrak’s mainline New York station for Northeast Corridor services. Running through the East River Tunnels underneath the City, the line passes the imposing Sunnyside Yard – a 192 acre Amtrak coach yard – towards New Rochelle, crossing the stunning Hell Gate Bridge, through Astoria Queens and Upper Manhattan.
At New Rochelle, both Metro-North and Amtrak lines merge and continue north on overhead catenary, keeping in sight of Long Island Sound, offering impressive views across Connecticut State, and through Stamford, Bridgeport and Milford, before arriving at New Haven Union Station.
Many branch lines duck and dive off the main line through New York, including the Yankee Branch, which serves the New York Yankees Stadium on baseball match days, and the New Canaan Branch north of Stamford, serving one of the wealthiest communities in the US.
Long-distance Amtrak passenger services along the New York-New Haven line are increasingly operated by ultra-modern ACS-64 electric locomotives, which first entered service in February 2014. Built by Siemens for Amtrak, the ACS-64 is designed to replace the existing fleet of AEM-7 and HHP-8 locomotives on the route. With a maximum power output of 8,600hp, the locomotive is capable of accelerating 18 Amfleet cars to a maximum speed of 125mph in little over eight minutes and is fitted with advanced, state-of-the-art safety systems.
Freight operations on the line are a common sight too, often being pulled by CSX Transportation locomotives. The EMD SD40-2, included with this route, was introduced between 1972 and 1986 and was an upgrade to the SD40 series. Modular electronic control systems give the locomotive more reliability and economy than its competitors, even though it is not as powerful, making it one of the best-selling locomotives of all time.

The cab signals and wayside signals/speed limits through interlockings do not match NORAC rules, resulting in improper penalty brake applications. 0/10 NORAC BOOK IS FREE ONLINE...
The alerter comes on but won't let me deactivate then the train goes into full brake, I have to restart engine to get going again only for same problem to occur again. What's going on???? I've had to deal with this on other routes too.
THIS MAP CAUSES LAG MAN
I really want to like this route add on. The graphics are good (for Train Sim) smooth train operation. But it has a bug that will through your train into emergency, even if you are pushing the Alerter button. It makes it unplayable and a waste of money.
this route good
It's a nice route. In the first mission you will start in a metro station, and as you leave the tunnels you can see a beautiful new york as you cross a bridge. All missions are working perfectly.
Okay. Let me start by saying this is one of the best routes to use Metro North M2s, M4s, M7s, and M8s on. Now obviously, we all know this comes with 2 locomotives. Only two locomotives. What DTG should have did, was include the Amtrak AEM-7 on this route instead, and have the NEC Philadelphia route as an extension dlc like they did with Soldier Summit and Salt Lake City. What I find extremely helpful with this route is that, not only is it great for most NEC rollingstock, it's also great for Metro North stuff too. So I highly recommend all NEC fans get this dlc now and complete your collection if you haven't already. It's really worth the price if you have the Metro North M8 and M2/M4 and want to play the career scenarios featured on this route.
classic american line. slow and boring. mainline that has multiple sections of 50mph areas, screw that. The only scenarios worth plating are the m8 EMU (cheap add on and the big diesel amtrak train to stamford).
Waste of $30, worth about $5-$10. I feel scammed.
This is a good route if you want to complete your Northeast Corridor collection but it is fairly old. It looks nice and it's a comfy ride throughout the suburbs but can lack detail.
Not too good. Whats modeled is done for the most part nicely, but scenarios are extremely limited and the route only takes about 60min end to end(W/ stops)
Very Accurate!! LOL
This is honestly the best route for TS by far! I love the sounds, scenery, It gives you the feeling that you're in NY! If you have a good PC, You should buy this.
The part that is available to play is good, the loco, signalling and scenery are well done.
However, all is not good. The description talks about GCT and how good it is are irrelevant as they play no part at all in this route, nada, niente, zilch, the square root of jack squat. This is a pity as I was looking forwards to driving it. If you look at the map whilst driving you'll see that GCT is on it and the branch leading from it, but there are no scenarios for it nor is there any chance to explore it via quick drive.
Great route. Bring back the memories from the macy's day parade.
This route brings a lot of content! Technically I’ve never had the patience to sit down for around an hour going from New York to new haven but that won’t stop you!
This is my favorite route in Train Simulator thus far:
Pros:
+ Good amount of length
+ Cab Signaling is amazing
+ ACS64 is my favorite locomotive I own (unfortunately, in the older NEC it does not run properly due to the ACSES system not being backwards compatible to the older signals).
+ Assets are the go-to for route construction.
+ The CSX SD40-2 is a good upgrade of the original Kuju SD40-2, but most of the sounds are still the same.
+ Unlike another review has stated, this route does have the Harlem Line, but only up to Wakefield and Mount Vernon West.
Cons:
- ACS64 is not backwards compatible, (but the NYNH signals are).
- Only 2 locomotives, commuter service is deserted unless you have some DLC on hand.
- LIRR exists in the route, but there is very little evidence of it.
These are the only cons I can think of so far.
In conclusion I rate this route 7.5/10
It's a great route for running Amtrak services like the Vermonter, Acela Express, and the Northeast Regional. My only critisism is that there isn't a scenario that runs from one end of the route to another, but that doesn't mean you can make one yourself.
Very nice route and lengh. Definitely recommend it.
I do not understand why this route has so few reviews.
It is a great route - detailed, VERY well modelled. Good for both passenger and freight operations with a string of beautifully modelled suburban stations and extensive freight yards and industrial sidings throughout. The drive into New York is so good.
I highly recommend it. I own a lot of routes, and this may be my favourite.
Vendor states this has the New Haven and the Harlem Line.. There is nothing but New Haven stops.. Harlem line is not even in the game. No GCT, no 128th, Hawthorne, White Plains, Goldens Bridge, etc.. This is an out right scam and I am shocked that Steam would even allow it to be in their store.
