Sequel to a certified XBLIG classic, and unfortunately possibly the last game from Magical Time Bean.
Fun and simple puzzle platformer, lots of levels, sick custom level creator, ball-bustingly difficult endgame levels, secrets, great art direction and a cool little story. Just like Escape Goat 1 and Soulcaster, this game has an absolute BANGER of a soundtrack

This is one of my favorite puzzle platform games and it's well worth the price. They really nailed the art and sound design.

I miss the old graphics but other than that, this has all the old mechanics and more.
A great single screen 2D puzzle platformer that I haven't yet beaten in the late stages. The mouse abilities help make this game stand out, and the music is also a nice touch.
This was a real surprise! Really did not expect to enjoy this so much. What a great platform puzzler! Fun and sometimes quite difficult rooms to explore, nice graphics, good controls. Definitely recommended!

I loved Escape Goat 1, but this one really upped-the-level!
These puzzles are tricky, so you are in for a real mind-bender. Also, you can't just sit and wait to figure out the puzzles, because many of them have to happen at specific times, making this a true puzzle-platformer as you have to execute some precision platforming at speed while racing toward puzzle objectives.
I highly recommend this game to everyone that likes BOTH puzzle games AND platform games. If you don't like one of those genres, then you won't like this game.
If you do, then you are in for a treat of a game with unique puzzles and mechanics. I absolutely love it!
Escape Goat 2 is yet another masterpiece from Magicaltimebean. I first found this developer through Xbox Live Indie Marketplace where I got to play the first Escape Goat (and also the pre-Double Fine release of Escape Goat 2) which was a retro inspired puzzle platformer where you played as a purple goat with a magic hat wearing mouse that helped you escape from a dungeon. You'd use team work with your rodent friend to help trip switches or magically teleport around the stage to get keys to open locked doors.
Escape Goat 2 continues the goat action with totally new graphics and much much more insane puzzle solving to be had, and it includes more of the stellar music from Ian Stocker much like the previous game. This game pretty much doubles the amount of levels as the first game and ever increasing challenge is enough for even the most seasoned of platformer enthusiasts. It includes many of the same mechanics from the first game with switches, exploding crates, crumbling blocks, tesla coils, saw blades, and fireball tossing Reapers but includes a new power up that turns the mouse into a stone block in addition to the Magic Hat which teleports you to the mouses position. It also includes many secrets to be found which extends the overall package which already has many levels to beat. Graphically it has new dynamic lighting which wasn't present in the first game which is a nice touch. Like the first game it includes a level editor so you can make your own levels and you can share your levels via the Steam Workshop though it appears to still be in Beta after all this time.
There isn't much I can say detracts from this game, if you don't like challenging games you might not like this game as some levels can be very difficult but its not so difficult that its unbeatable. If you like platformers and puzzlers or you've played other Magicaltimebean games like the Soulcaster series you will definitely enjoy this game.
A very successful sequel to the previous game. Much nicer graphics and improved responsiveness. The core levels are pretty simple, additional ones present a decent challenge and the secret rooms are really hard, designed for dedicated players. A bit of something for everybody. Strongly recommended for achievement hunters, around 20 hours should be enough to master it and achieve 100%. As a bonus feature, it has a very easy to use editor. My 6-year-old son loves to use it to create numerous custom levels. With enough creativeness it's almost endless fun.
Takes the deceptively simple airtight design of the original game and expands on it with more levels, more devilish puzzles and a more striking art style. A great puzzle platformer for killing a few hours.

Escape Goat 1 was very concrete and linear, and the harder levels were absolute rage time.
This one is quite an improvement environment and art wise, the music is still jammin', but the difficulty is a lot easier.
The difficulty also more varying, some rooms take 10 seconds, others 40+, which is nice. Gives more variety to switch between easy and hard, but even the hard is more mild, more puzzling I'd say.
The more difficult rooms are also hidden, you need to find invisible keys that unlock invisible doors that lead you to a secret room. It's quite interesting, trying to find those rooms.
The achievements give some eye widening realizations for how silly/broken some things are, gives a nice additional challenge.
Overall, I missed the ultra hard stuff from EG1, but also kinda glad this one is more puzzly as opposed to rage inducing? They focus on different things, and I can respect that. Gives a more concrete reason to buy one or the other based on preference, but both is fine too.
Is it wrong to have loved Escape Goat 1, but to just grow frustrated with Escape Goat 2? While many reviews say the EG1 and EG2 are very similar, I suspect something is essentially different, but I'd have to go back to the first one to identify the difference. At least in my case, liking EG1 is not a sufficient condition for liking EG2. That's not to say EG2 is a bad game - I can tell by the reviews lots of players like it. But I suspect fanhood of the original might not translate well to the second.
It's been a few years since I played the first one, but I remember loving it and having great fun with neat puzzles. Maybe it was my high expectations, but I had difficulty finding the fun. EG2 often left me feeling like like I was doing an action like pushing a button because that's what I had access too - not because it was part of a plan to solve a level. And the platforming seems more difficult or emphasized in this one.
I requested a refund after being very frustrated for 30-40 minutes on a level that I kept failing that required lots of rapid platforming. I realized I wasn't having much fun at all up to that point, and was hoping for improvement. I remember hard levels in EG1, but I don't recall the first Escape Goat ever having that feeling of frustration, while simultaneously hoping it gets better.
Hope this helps. I would recommend EG1 though.
Just play the first one. The game's one advantage is the Steam Workshop support, which is pointless since the level editor is miles behind the one in the first game.
Probably about time I left a review for this masterpiece. Starting with the controls, there's great responsiveness and natural feel to all of the movement in the game. Can't say enough about how good the game feels to play.
The music is fantastic all the way around. Not a bad track in the game, and has some real bangers.
The puzzles and rooms this game is built around are all well thought out, and feel so satisfying to solve. Then there's even some rooms that aren't really puzzles, but tests of execution that work great with the superior controls in the game.
Really, I can't recommend this game enough as it's been one of the best games I've touched in several years. Go buy it now.
An excellent puzzle platformer. The speedrun community is fun to watch, and the developer is in the process of adding TAS tools to the game itself.
It is definitely an improvement over EG1, with quite a few hours of fun... but don't count on finishing it. That's right: near the end, the levels become nearly impossible. And i say "nearly" only because one can almost see how they would be possible to finish - but think of "finding a needle in a hay stack, while in mid-air" nearly possible.
Another one in the long tradition of good games ruined by their final levels, where in the name of a difficulty spike you stop having to rely on figuring out how to beat the stage to just mindlessly repeating the same thing over and over until you can get the right timing. It's a shame, really.
When it comes to puzzle platformers, my first thought comes to mind that "platformer" is merely a tool to present those deliberately designed puzzles ---- I think, therefore I jump.
Oh boy, I was wrong.
Escape Goat is an excellent puzzle platformer that offers great balance between platforming and solving puzzles.
There's a regular way to beat each level, but you can find lots of alternative routes with your platforming skilz ---- this happens in most platformers, however hard to find in a puzzler.
The original game Escape Goat is brilliant.
However the main campaign is too short, those extended levels (Room of Insanity) are hard platforming levels that loses the main purpose of the game. If I seek rage, Super Meat Boy is a much better way to go.
Here's how sequels should be made:
In every aspect better than the original, while preserving the main idea.
- The art is much more polished, I feel much more comfortable without the pixel art.
- Instead of linear progression, the sequel offers you a 11*11 map for 121 rooms. You can try a different one when you are stuck at a specific room.
- More levels, less difficulty increment (Secret rooms are quite challenging, no worry for the game to be too easy)
[*]Level design have more focus on interaction with the mouse, thus more brain teasers
In short, Escape Goat 2 is a masterpiece.
Good game, but the editor is a bit cumbersome - it would be much better if you could use mouse in it. There also seems to be no way to remove some elements.
As someone who likes puzzle games this game should be perfect for me. I played and finished the first game and I somewhat liked it.
So I bought the sequel when it went on sale but it seems I've had enough of the Escape Goat formula. For me there is too much arcade and not enough puzzle in Escape Goat 2. It's very frustrating knowing how to complete a level and yet failing time and time again as a result of failing at some arcade element.
EG2 has all the fun, the puzzles that make you feel clever, and the excellent difficulty level of the first game, with better graphics and music. It's a great controller game, too. Buy this thing!
Easy to pick up and play in short bursts. I found it slightly easier than the original but still very challenging. Very enjoyable, I highly recommend!

I played the first Escape Goat tons of times and this pretty much blows the first one out of the water. It adds a lot of new features while keeping some old ones, despite the new features being there for a few short levels. However there is a lot more to do in order to go through a lot of levels so there's more things to do rather than going through ten worlds and four extra worlds. There's a strange diffculty curve in some levels where you might spend ten minutes on one level figuring out what to do, then the next might take you two minutes. Either way the puzzles are interesting enough that you might even take some of them on in different ways, rather than going through what the game intends you to. The graphics are way better than the first, moving from pixel graphics to fancy drawn graphics and neat little idle animations. Soundtrack is also really amazing. If you liked the frist Escape Goat, you'll really love this sequel. If you haven't played the first, then I'd really recommend just moving onto this one, since there's nothing much to miss on the story.
