About the Game
You wake in an landing pod, check your equipment, and venture out onto the red Martian soil in search of a nearby habitat. With 25 square miles of the Red Planet to explore and survive, you must gather resources from randomized points-of-interest, supply caches, and other habitats in order to continue your mission. But survival is more than just tracking status bars. Maintaining your life-support equipment is just as important as maintaining your health.Explore a massive terrain generated from actual Mars satellite imagery. With features generated from scans collected by the HiRISE project and details painstakingly designed to reflect the photography captured by planetary rovers, this is as close as you can get to visiting the true Red Planet.
Survive the harsh Martian environment with mechanics based on real health metrics like blood glucose levels, heart rate, caloric intake, and more. You will feel like a true interplanetary pioneer as you conquer the elements and survive randomized threats like dust storms.
Capture the beauty of Mars with an in-game photography mechanic that allows you to document your discoveries. Photos are saved to your computer at full 1920x1080 resolution and can be referenced in-game where you can set objective points to navigate back to where the photos were taken.
Interact with the various astronaut technologies through your dependable datapad. You will need to manage inventories, salvage and craft supplies, and repair vital life support systems in order to survive the desolate landscapes of Mars. Find and drive rovers to help manage multiple habitats.

DEAD PROJECT - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
This game might have been something, but it's been on hold for a couple of years. It will never see continued development, and as is, it is unfinished.
2 years now since last communications from the developer. Oxygen supplies have long since depleted, and only his desiccated remains now poke through the drifting red sands of a lifeless Martian landscape.
The game looked promising, then was openly put on hold, I check from time to time, appears that it's been almost a year on hold, I'm only giving it a thumbs down because it appears at this point in time, there's no future for this game. I will certainly change my review if the game receives future updates.
No more infos from the devs. No story or at least a storyline for the gameplay. You just run around and try to find stuff so u can run around even longer. I was very enthusiasctic about this game earlyer on. But now I am quite disappointed and sad that I baought this game in the early access state where you just got scammed by the devs.
Abandoned game, they promised an update for years and now they officially announced they leave it. The game as it is doesn't offer any more than a few hours of gameplay, after that not much to do since you can't avoid to die of starvation. DON'T BUY THIS. It should be removed from the store. Don't give money to scammers.
Was fun but needs work and features..But I'm convinced the game is abandoned at this point.
I love this game! Played 8 and a half hours of it so far. I’ve been wanting to play a Mars survival game that feels much more like a simulator then a fast paced unrealistic video game. This game is awesome! I love the fact that its like a Mars simulator.
The game is still in Early Access, and so it still needs a lot of work. I encountered a bug, where I hopped out of my rover, and then it wouldn’t let me walk around. So I had to close and re-open the game, and then it was fixed. It only happened once though. I lost some game progress though, because the game only saves once you sleep.
I find that kind of annoying, because if I have to stop playing for some reason, it only saves your progress when you slept last in the game. I wish it would save your progress every time you quit the game, or maybe had an auto save every minute or so.
The sound design and music are amazing as well! I love how it randomly starts playing ambient space music when your walking around or exploring. Really adds a lot to the game.
Its also really cool that you can walk around and use your data pad at the same time.
Mouse sensitivity was way to high on default, but it was easy to turn down in the settings.
The visuals are pretty good. When looking out at larger surface areas, I can spot a lot of texture tiling. Like, I can see the same texture pattern repeated over and over again. So fixing that would be a nice improvement.
Again, I know this is in early access, but I had some cool ideas on how to improve the game. So if the game creators read this, maybe they could use some of these ideas:
1. The Rovers could have a solar mount, so that you could add a spare solar panel on top of it. That way the rover batterys can charge when its daylight.
2. I also think adding Multiplayer to this game would be really cool.
3. When I was filling up the spare battery's and oxygen tanks, I thought it would be nice to see how much of the Hab’s resources I was using. Once I charged a portable battery, but accidentally used up all of the Hab power, and had to quickly transfer some from my suit to the Hab.
4. The Mars bases need way more solar panels. Realistically, a Mars base would have a large solar farm, but the bases only have a few small solar panels here and there. So I think it would be more realistic If each base had at least a small solar farm.
5. I’m sure there are plans to add this, but it would be great if there was a way to make food. Currently, if you run out of food, your dead. There’s no way to make more food.
6. I find maintaining your base is kind of annoying. Every couple of days, I had to go around and repair the slots of all the components. It seems unrealistic that you would need to to that every few days. Things should break down over time, but not in just a few days. You have to constantly be checking up on the systems, if you don’t want a part to break.
7. I think it would be better if the game would save every time you quit, instead of only saving when you slept.
8. I think it would be cool if you could run the system diagnostics from the Hab, so that you don’t need to do an EVA to check them.
9. I would like it if you could have multiple game slots, because currently it only allows for one game slot.
And overall just adding more to the game would help a lot. The story mode also sounds really cool! I hope there able to create that sometime as well.
Overall, if your looking for a Mars survival simulator game, then I highly recommend this game. Although keep in mind that the game is still in early access, so there are still so many things that could be added to this game. But so far I think its off to a great start!
The original developer sold it to other people who was very enthusiastic at the beginning but soon lost their momentum. Now it is completely abandoned: no news, no updates, no game, actually.
I'm really enjoying this game. I like the whole walking around on limited oxygen looking for supplies and other locations. This really forces you to actually plan trips out and not take your resources for granted. The systems and the maintenance required to keep things running is very well thought out. And yes, not for everyone. If your looking for action and things to kill you won't find that here. If you want a survival experience based on realistic science then yes your trying to survive on Mars and remember there's no oxygen on Mars, the atmosphere is primarily CO2.
I'm just about six hours in and I have to say I like it! My main base is up and running at high efficiency. I have found one of the other bases, looted it for spare parts and took all of the stored food back to the main base; almost ran out of oxygen trying to get back! Contracted some radiation sickness on a long expedition but found some anti-radiation pills to get me back to health.
All-in-all, if you want to be Mark Watney for a while, this is your game!
My first impression after playing almost an hour - I would recommend having the option for a tutorial. The player is a trained astronaut, albeit stranded on Mars, but the person would surely know some of the basics/mechanics of moving around and locating things (not just WASD), how to fix items, when and how much to eat/drink, etc. I played he first time and had a semi-difficult time since I di not originally see that Q would activate the scanner. A tutorial would have given me the help needed. I di, however, figure these items out. The console (E) has a lot of information and needs some guidance on how to really use it. I di muddle thru. Overall, it gives the feel of being stranded on Mars with pretty good graphics. I will continue to play and update this review. I like the game.
I like exploring Mars with Lacuna Passage. If you play this game your astronaut will die of something.
That in mind please look for water where ever you can find it. Also keep in mind that for the most part you can only eat when you do not have you space suit on. Which pretty much means you have to be in Habitat (Alpha, Beta, or Gamma).
Salvadge everything you can as you do not know in advance what you may need on an EVA (Exta Vehicular Activity)
I have had very positive experiance with this game... I am deeply encouraged by it's active growth and fantastic content that this will be a tremendous game. yes it is in early access, it does need time to grow but I have been playing for a week now and I am never bored with it. the Lacuna Passage is first and foremost a mars survival simulator.
I don't know what's special about this game but I enjoy Playing for hours and hours I guess it's the thought of Playing on actual Mars train It's hard for me to play any game for a long period of time and even more to come back to it but This game Makes me want to come back to play it more And I recommend it ( :
Controls on the PDA are very annoying, its a tad hard to figure out what you're supposed to do, you are going do 100% die by 80-100 Sols even if you ration and find every scrap of food you have, and it takes forever to walk just a kilometer, the vehicle feels terrible and is indeed terrible, and half of the mechanics are kind of just thrown in right at the end.
I do not recommend this game, at all, or any games created by the developer "Random Seed Games" or "Tyler Owen". DO NOT buy this failed, incomplete mess, and don't buy Tyler Owen's upcoming game LIMYN... I promise you he hasn't learned at all, he just ran and "handed off" Lacuna Passage. On his website the only good thing he can say about this game is that it had a successful Kickstarter... what a joke.
the game is beautiful but its got stiff learning curve. The game doesn't lead you by the hand it gives instructions that you'll need to read not just skip over or you're boned. That being said i love this game the atmosphere and textures are top notch and the controls are a bit tough but once you get the hang of them it feels natural. only things I'd like to see are hab construction and a tutorial.
Though I can't really recommend this game to anyone as it needs ALOT of work, I'm not going to refund it either.
- Development is still way too early, has potential though.
- LMB seems to be the dominate control, kept feeling like 'E' on the keyboard should open doors/interact too.
- Datapad only uses arrow keys on keyboard, another area where mouse would work better.
- Vitals go to shit way too quickly, seems like you drink water and eat things more often then not.
- Day/Night cycle goes by way too fast.
- Waysats, habitats, etc. seem placed too far away.
- Dust storm never went away, ended up dying from hypothermia even after trying to juggle habitat systems to conserve.
- Suit oxygen and power draining too quickly.
- Never found components for RTG, if components exist there far far away.
- Machines don't like fuses or are very picky, lost several just installing them even after slot repair.
- Component slot repair seems to be a constant factor, slots wearing out too quickly.
- Severe screen lag while viewing habitat beta status monitor, power info spammed across screen no other info shown.
- No button to 'Take All' from storage container, if more then one item exists in a stack have to enter in QTY then confirm.
- Inventory manipulation uses arrow keys on keyboard, would work better with mouse.
- Character barely jumps if at all.
- Have to hold crouch button, doesn't appear to be a toggle.
- Different camera views would be a nice touch, seems to be stuck in first person view only.
- Habitats never get a decent power charge due to the day/night cycles occuring too often.
Lacuna Passage can be a really amazing game.
I love the sense of loneliness and the feeling you get when you see something shiny on the horizon!
But it can get some work.
I think the game would be a lot better if you could craft food, craft drivable rovers and maybe even a bit of multiplayer exploration.
So far so good. Very different survival where you have to think. No weapons, no enemies, no animals etc. Just you, alone, trying to survive a little longer. Artwork is awesome and I have been able to figure out a lot of it on my own. Look forward to every update.
Due to the fact this game has received no updates now for over two years and in it's current state, it's just not anything particularly interesting. It had promise, but it's likely a dead game now.
