I never really write reviews for games I have played but INFRA I have decided to make an exception for, since it really has been one of the most enjoyable games I have played as of late where I did not expect it to be as fun as it actually was. For a game which is a walking simulator where you play as a structural engineer some of the situations I found myself in made me genuinely double take what was happening. Especially with Mark's sometimes passive (and in exceptional cases mildly irritated) outlook on some of the crazy things occurring.
Alongside that the atmosphere of the game is exceptional and if you are anyway interested in urban exploration I would recommend getting this game. The environments in the game always give the impression that you are walking in abandoned spaces that had at least some human activity in their past despite the absolute decay that infests the areas that poor old Mark and me are forced to traverse. It is definitely a game I found very relaxing to play as well with the puzzles being difficult but not too hard to figure out. The story itself is also rather interesting learning about how exactly Stalburg got into the state it is today and how the severe neglect of the city is the result of a long history of corporate corruption/conspiracy, mistakes and way too many people going "good enough".
I would say the only real flaws of the game is that sometimes it felt like a drag to continue on. Do not be fooled once you are out of your office, you will not be interacting with other characters for a long time outside the occasional telephone call. So you will be forced to have to listen to Marks repeated declarations of having x number of batteries for the camera/flashlight every time you pick up a pack of batteries alongside Marks concerns over the state of Stalburg's infrastructure when you take a picture. The environments themselves also sometimes felt they were repeated a few too many times, with me dreading the next time I would go into a tunnel section of the game (you will see a LOT of tunnels).
I would say the only time Mark took me out of the experience of the game was on a few occasions when the subject matter in front of him was way more serious than he was taking it with him simply uttering "oh no..." then flipping out his camera to put said serious subject in his latest cringe compilation. But overall I liked Mark, he was a good protagonist and his voice actor gave him a certain charm to where by the end of the game I felt it was me and him being the only forces stopping Stalburg from falling apart by the seams.
Overall if you do like games that take a more relaxed pace, with some puzzles and the occasional action set piece, I would heavily recommend INFRA. It was a joy to play through and if I have enough time I would love to go through this game in detail to find all of it's secrets.
if you love exploring and solving puzzles you will absolutely love this game.
it has multiple paths and multiple endings.. exploring will be rewarded.
it is an absolute gem of a game
It truly was a pleasure to play this game. Just completed the story and it was a great ride! Atmospheric, immersive, puzzles that give you a sense of accomplishment when you solve them and so much attention to the details placed in the environments. Now to play obensuer!
The uncanny feeling of exploring empty Source Engine maps stretched out over an entire game, filled with tons of unique secrets to find and an intriguing plot to unravel.
I wanted to like this, and there are elements that I do like, like the environment and the atmosphere, but the overall experience was really frustrating and I ended up dropping it. Most of the puzzles are vague and confusing. There are no hints and no journal or map to keep track of progress. There is no visible inventory, so if you pick up a key and forget to read the tag, good luck figuring out what it's for. The game lets you progress despite unfinished puzzles, and that made it feel like I was missing bits and pieces of the story. The story itself feels scattered and incohesive, and I could not keep track of it. Progression is slow and tedious. It's a lot of walking back and forth and it breaks the flow of the game. I might have powered through if I didn't get completely stuck at one point. There is a gate that does not open for me. No matter what I do it does not open. I followed a guide step by step and nothing.
Loved the urban exploring and uncovering the secrets of this city and how corrupt it is
*Took a photo of a mass grave of civilians*
Mark goes "Intriguing"
This game will appeal to those who love urban exploration. It is a fun game to play, the developers managed to make a relaxing game where you have to climb around old buildings and sewers. The puzzles can be confusing at times, as this is not the type of game where it leads the player by the hand.
This game is unbelievably good. I need INFRA 2!
Other than some pretty bad crashing during the final two chapters of the game, and maybe being a little overlong due to the act-based release structure, this is a wonderfully immersive walking sim that uses the camera mechanic well to get you to inspect all the lovingly detailed areas of Stalburg.
The life of a structural engineer trying to hold together an entire region's worth of crumbling, underfunded infrastructure is a weirdly compelling premise for a game. Some tricky puzzles and backtracking, but the overall vibe and gameplay are great.
As I did not get 100% achievements I can't reccomend this game.
Review
It's definitely a unique game and I would play a sequel but it definitely began to wear out it's welcome as you end up in one contrived situation after another. It's all very "main character" design philosophy that was and still is very popular among the unwashed masses. That being said it's the only infrastructure inspector game I'm aware of so you should definitely play it. Also, there's an ARG that still hasn't been solved if you're into those kinds of things, it's very esoteric cryptography and obscure low resolution text hunting. I had quite a few crashes as well.
This is in perfect honesty my favorite game ever made. Maybe it is not for you, but it is for me and if you are like me I think you will feel the same. I cannot explain what INFRA is or why I like it, but I really, really, really do.
From Obenseur to INFRA. They are so beautifuly disgustingly sprinkled and covered in lore that may seem closer to many real life situations than anyone care to push. we are all sponges from the day we are born to the day we pass. money shouldnt be the defining notion in our life we are all trying to survive, while giving money power when it only holds its own agenda realy can end a city and send you back just as much as destroying knowledge. but we are sponges from the day we are born to the day we pass we don't all adsorb the same, or expunge the same. how we came to be absorbing in this world and squeezing it out we dont know one anothers life so we should respect it because like we are everyone else is here on this earth. okay im off my soap box play the games if your into building management start with obenseur and if you need breaks infra they both have a lore i would dive head first into and both deserve to be up for awards. having me wandering and worrying like it the last of us, and thinking about my choices like life is strange. and a lore that's got me burning for more like fallout.
A great game about urban exploration and engineering. It gets the sense of being in a endless megastructure while still keeping it plausible and not sci-fi. The story and lore is very well made and there are TONS of secrets to find. The voice acting is by english speakers with heavy european accents, which breaks immersion a bit, but I found it genuine with the effort they put in and it grew on me.
You could do everything or go through the areas at your own pace. I really enjoyed how I could do things if I wanted, or just try to get through areas. The physics and platforming based puzzles made sense. Pretty standard Source Engine stuff. Some of the engineering puzzles that were mostly optional were difficult, but wow they were so well made and I felt like an engineer fixing things in these empty facilities. Sometimes I got stuck and needed a guide, but that was more so convenience than necessity.
The ending was cool and actually brought some tense action. Overall would reccomend if this you like industrial puzzles, urban exploration, and political corruption themes.
I saw a review for Infra and it was the first game I bought and downloaded when I converted over to Steam from console. It had great atmosphere and challenging puzzles. I also enjoyed the variety of locations. I was not able to figure out all the puzzles myself, and definitely needed help. The game went on - so many levels, so many sections - and I ended up putting about 52 hours into the game. I definitely got my money's worth. I would certainly recommend the game.
An amazing game to just get lost in. Each area has so much to discover and you will get rewarded when you go off the beaten path to search for more things to see. The story and its multiple layers are very interesting and make you want to find out more what has happened. A perfect game for if you want to explore fun areas, solve puzzles, piece together lore and get rewarded for being inquisitive.
There's a certain quiet cozy quirkiness about INFRA that keeps bringing me back for multiple playthroughs. INFRA allows you to roleplay as the world's most badass (and honestly reckless) engineer in history. Long abandoned power plant? Turn it on. What's the worst that could happen? Oh-- that's not good. Follow along for a complicated and sometimes silly story or just branch off and play Hallway Simulator 2016. Whatever your style, INFRA is for anyone. I LOVE this game way more than I should and have sunk nearly 90 hours into it. It is a lovingly crafted game with massive attention to detail. If you like cozy exploration games and or urbex, GET INFRA NOW!
One of the coolest source engine games I've ever played. (up there with Black Mesa)
If you like walking through many different areas, and I mean different, and taking pictures of the failing infrastructure of Stalburg and solving puzzles along the way, then this is the game for you.
I have no idea what i am doing but it looks pretty :3
This game is pretty magnificent.
The map design for one is some of the best I've seen in a game since the first Half-Life (especially the interior locations...and that's no exaggeration). It also gets kudos for its world building and lore; You can tell the game is a very personal project to the devs and that they put a lot of heart into it.
Puzzle solving is constant in this game, but it never feels like a hindrance, nor are the puzzles too easy - I found them to be just right. Again, kudos to the devs.
If I have to gripe about this game, it's that A: It can be crash prone in certain areas, and B: The voice acting isn't great. I understand they probably hired some Finnish locals to do English dubs but like...why not just voice it in native Finnish then?
All in all, I highly recommend this.
It took me 8 hours to finish the first act with a guide, I'm never gonna finish this game by figuring everything by myself.
I bought it because of Garry's Mod and my slight Obsessive-compulsive disorder, it might be a world-building marvel but still the game play is not for me.
This kind of game is not meant for every type of gamer. If you are the type of gamer that likes to explore, solve puzzles, and examine details, you are likely to enjoy this game.
Being a structural analyst, your objective is to examine the conditions of the locations you are sent to and record any important or relevant information. If you are the type of person who likes to move slowly, look for details and hidden secrets, and feel a sense of doing your job well, this game will satisfy you.
You will visit areas that are run-down, not maintained, or normally inaccessible to the public. If you are the type of person that likes to have a lot of time to yourself or do your work alone, this game will fit you. It's also good for people who like to explore the places of a city that are closed-off, out of reach, or forgotten by the public.
The puzzles in the game are at a great level of difficulty. In a way, the entire game is a puzzle because you will be backtracking in every level for about an hour, trying to move on the next area. It sounds annoying, but I had a great time walking around empty areas, reading papers, finding hints, and using my head. It made the puzzles very satisfying to solve. If you like puzzles of varying style and difficulty, you'll enjoy this.
All things considered, I believe this is one of my favorite games because it seemed so mundane that it was immersive and exciting to have a different slice of life. It included a lot of the activities I enjoy in gaming and in life so I was always engaged. It great to have a game where I can forget about my life and enjoy someone else's for a while.
Thank you Loiste Interactive!
Armed with only a flashlight and a camera, you venture into the underbelly of Stalburg to assess and repair failing infrastructure.
What he found was corruption, conspiracies, and general chaos.
The game has large set pieces and puzzles with multiple ways to approach them. The puzzles make sense in the context of the game.
No shooting, no monsters, but sometimes rubber ducks and stuffed bears and beer.
I have been playing computer games for over 40 years and this is still my favorite to go back to.
Highly recommend especially if you are looking something different.
Three thumbs up
Great game. Their are parts that make you be on the edge of your seat but for the most part it has a good story and want to do another play through to find things that i missed.
this is the best game i have played BY FAR! im not one for puzzle games but the way the puzzles and activities are presented makes it special. i dont know how Loiste does it, but they have created a masterpiece, keep it up!
Certified Real.
Good
yes
This game is one of my favourites, so many hidden secrets and collectables and a really cool story line overall.
It's a good puzzle game but the length (15-20hrs) tends to drag on just a little. It's made in the Source engine so the movement isn't too bad for some of the platforming sections, but even on a high-end rig there seems to be a memory leak issue around some of the more intense parts of the game that causes it to crash on saves. Just turn the memory usage to low to avoid this, you can turn it back up after that
If you like puzzle games and don't mind a longer game, it's definitely worth getting on sale
good game
"Infra" is one of the most unique and immersive games I've played in a long time. If you're someone who loves exploration, environmental storytelling, and solving intricate puzzles, this game is an absolute must-play.
The game puts you in the shoes of a structural analyst, tasked with inspecting and documenting the decay of crumbling infrastructure. What starts as a routine job quickly turns into a fascinating journey through abandoned factories, underground tunnels, and forgotten facilities. The level of detail in the environments is astounding—every rusted pipe, cracked wall, and flickering light tells a story.
One of the standout features of "Infra" is its focus on realism. The puzzles are logical and often require you to think like an engineer, whether you're restoring power to a facility, rerouting water flows, or navigating through hazardous areas. The game doesn't hold your hand, which makes solving each puzzle incredibly satisfying.
The atmosphere is another highlight. The eerie, abandoned settings are brought to life with excellent sound design and lighting. You'll often find yourself completely immersed in the world, feeling the weight of isolation and the urgency of your mission.
While the game is primarily a slow-paced, methodical experience, it’s perfect for players who enjoy taking their time to explore and uncover the secrets of the world around them. The narrative unfolds subtly through documents, environmental clues, and the occasional radio communication, leaving you to piece together the story yourself.
"Infra" isn’t just a game—it’s an experience. It’s a love letter to decay, infrastructure, and the stories hidden in the places we often overlook. If you’re looking for something different from the usual action-packed titles, give "Infra" a try. It’s a journey you won’t forget.
INFRA basically feels like urban exploration as a game, Which I love. Cool environments, many funny easter eggs and awesome engineering puzzles. Your story and ending change a bit, depending on your actions. (Wether or not you fix the infrastructure).
Feel like a civil engineer and uncover some lore while you´re at it.
One of a kind, worth your time.

One of the most unique and surreal games I've ever played. It's not for everyone though. There's a lot of filler and you can miss the plot completely if you're not paying attention.
I really feel like this game is not recommended enough to people who enjoy mysteries and puzzles, especially things involving political intrigue or conspiracies and civil engineering. It juggles several different stories at once, zooming in and out on their scope from the personal to things impacting the whole world. It does this with a gleam in its eye and a goofy little bounce in its step at times, and other times shockingly somber and morbid.
There is so, so much stuff you can miss, overlook, or bypass. I did not go into it realizing it would take around 35 hours if you are being meticulous. The puzzles make perfect sense, but that also means if you mess up, sometimes that's your only chance to fix something, and you ruined it. There are many kinds of puzzles as well- logic, engineering, physics, a bit of platforming. There ARE many ways you can miss a secret that locks you out of secrets down the line. You will almost certainly miss something. The most helpful advice I can give regarding this is: keep pulling out your camera and holstering it again- this saves battery but you can watch for the camera reticle to change, indicating a target. But don't worry too much about batteries. Also, ROTATE YOUR SAVES!
The maps are pretty sprawling, but it feels authentic because of that- a steel mill is absolutely massive. So is the metro. I personally do not view it as "filler", but I can understand if it does to some people. Later on in the game there is a level that seems to greatly inform the dev's next game- Obenseuer. It's really clear that this level was packed full of love and it's a joy to poke around in. If you've played Obenseuer and want to know more about the universe of Stalburg, I do recommend giving this a fair shake despite the gameplay differences.
One BIG WARNING I have, that affects a lot of players, is level transitions can cause a crash to desktop after the first several levels. If this affects you- save before the level transition, turn your resolution down in the options, walk through the transition and save again before turning the resolution back up. This seems to happen the most with transitions from inside to outside levels. I still recommend the game even with this caveat.
If you're willing to mosey, scamper, spelunk, and run like a bat out of hell through places way bigger than you and piece together mysteries from the odds and ends left behind, give it a try-- especially if it's on sale!!
There should be a "Maybe" rating because this is what I would give this game, you should get it on a discount if you like puzzles, mysteries and urban exploration. I got it because I really like devs newer game called Obensauer, which is kinda a sequel to this, it takes place in the same universe.
It's quite old school when it comes to level design, slow paced and surprisingly long. Sadly the feeling that it overstays its welcome is quite present as I started feeling quite worn out mid chapter 7 (there's 10 in the game). Also the game heavily features one of the worst environments in games, sewers. Feels like you spend 65% of the game in sewers and it starts getting annoying quite quickly, especially since game likes to tease you with snippets of outside and then toss you back underground.
Story is good and it gets quite wild at certain points. It revolves around a thing we sadly see all too often in real life, corruption, cutting corners, half measures and the consequences. I won't talk more about the story, if you're interested experience it yourself.
The game has quite unique approach to puzzles, quite realistic in some cases. Not every item that you find has to be used. Puzzles have multiple way to be done and in a few cases you can just walk away. There is a certain instance where there is a big puzzle I felt I had to do and I just did the most realistic thing ever and left the scene, not my job to fix that. The puzzles themselves aren't too hard, though I've played quite a bit of puzzle games so I've seen a lot of tricks that puzzle games use.
Ultimately I'll give this game a recommendation. In the end I had fun with it, even though it is flawed.
I really wish Steam had a kind of neutral rating, so I could say "this game is neat, but has enough flaws that I can't outright recommend it"... which is petty much what my opinion of this game is.
Overall, it's a fun and quirky little puzzler, and I did enjoy a lot of it.
It definitely did outstay its welcome, though. The game has 10 chapters, and I found myself really starting to wish I was close to done with it somewhere in chapter 7. The game starts to feel repetitive by that point, and the maps start to get spread out enough that you spend a *lot* of time just running around rather than actually doing much useful.
My biggest gripe, though, is just that there's some places where the game just isn't polished as much as it needs to be -- particularly the "climb onto" mechanic, which is sometimes really difficult to trigger. There was at least twice where I was stuck and had to look up where I should be doing because that mechanic wasn't triggering where it should have been (I wasn't at the right angle or something) and I'd dismissed the correct path as not-a-path accordingly. I found myself constantly wondering if there were parts of puzzles I was overlooking because of bugs like this, and that was not a pleasant feeling.
The climb-off-ladder mechanic was likewise maddening and I spent way too much time trying to get off ladders without falling all the way back down.
The game also gets pretty crashy in the last couple of chapters. I'd say "save often", but saving is what seems to trigger the crashes half the time!
Despite all that, if you're patient and can get the game at a big discount, it's probably worth playing. I don't *regret* having played it, but it definitely doesn't leave me feeling particularly enthusiastic about it.
after about 9 hours in there was a point where i was slowly crawling inside a pipe for a straight 5 minutes with absolutely nothing else happening, no music, none. it was at this moment i told myself this: 'what the fuck is the point of this?' i feel like this game deliberately misleads you by advertising itself as an urban exploration, and it eliminates this premise after giving you a really engaging and fun first couple hours. then after that, it's just walk A to B and try to take photos if you can. i just really don't understand the amount of filler this game contains, some places literally have nothing to them, and 90% of your destinations are just absolutely uninteresting dead ends. the game literally tricks you into thinking it has a fun urban exploration then eventually forgets what it is, and just becomes a template walking simulator. like i feel like this game is practically the result of what happens when a developer has too many ideas for their game, there's no way they actually stretched the game this LONG as if it was part of their original premise for the game - like some places are just ridiculously long and nowhere related to some of the lore in the game. and it ends up feeling like they really did not want to finish the game. it's a beautiful, carefully detailed game, that ends up being too much of insisting upon itself, it's such a weird combination of borderline unbearable gameplay and acceptable gameplay, it's a reminder of what games should NOT be. this is by far the most unique walking simulator game i've ever played, there's nothing like it. I will warn you, if you play this, prepare to have your patience pushed to the limits. for me, i had to give in
Very good game if you like urban exploration, like I do. I enjoy it very much. Though it may be a bit frustrating at times
A boring walking simulator without challenging puzzles
Crashes super often in certain areas. And then you try to save and it crashes when you try to save, super annoying.
Other than that, not a bad game. I wish the pacing was better. A little more human interaction a little more "why should i care?" (at least early on). The mystery is kinda cool, but not engaging at the beginning.
Obenseuer was fun, this is boring as can be. Sorry but I don't find taking pictures of broken things fun
INFRA is a very interesting puzzle game, it kinda gives me MYST vibes and I think if you like that, you'll like this
Not a fan of "walking simulator" type game, but got this because I heard it's set in the same universe of the dev's other game I love, Obenseuer.
I'm surprised to find just how deep and mysterious the city both the game is set in, It felt like i have jumped down into a rabbit hole. Some of puzzles are too confusing and requires you to backtrack, which i had to look up online to progress (or maybe im just too spoiled by modern game), but it felt worth it in the end.
It gives a lot contexts about Obenseuer. If you have played that and love the game's setting and curious about its lore, or just simply likes this type of game, I highly recommend Infra.
If you ever wondered why the piping and wiring of video games levels does not makes sense, this game will prove you wrong.
One of a kind game which combines masterclass of Source 1 map mapping and pedantic attention to details with surprisingly long campaign.
I'd really want to dive into the game but motion sickness beats me more.
Be aware of it if you have this issue with common Source engine games.
This is an exploration/puzzle/mystery game where you play a structural engineer, with nothing but a torch and a camera, inspecting some major infrastructure installations for defects. I think this is a quite clever setup for a mystery game, because a structural inspector is essentially a detective whose "crime scenes" are corroded rebar and exposed electrical wiring. The dilapidated places you explore gradually reveal evidence of a major conspiracy involving their owners, turning your photos of structural decay into genuine criminal evidence. It's like playing out an ATSB (or NTSB etc) incident report in real-time, it's awesome.
The puzzles can be quite hard, I have to set the game aside and come back to it the next day sometimes. I like that all of the environments (so far at least) have been directly connected to each other, so it really feels like an adventure. It's also amazingly long for what seems like a niche game, I've just hit act 2 after like... 18 hours on this save or something.
If you're the sort of person who occasionally spots an obscure maintenance access doorway from the train window and becomes intensely curious about what it's like in there, and where you might pop out if you went exploring, I recommend this game. It's safer than trespassing!
It's an entire game of the worst parts of the level design from Half Life 1.
was really excited to play this game, but unfortunately it made me really, REALLY motion sick. i tried everything-- changing the FOV, turning off motion blur, etc. nothing worked. it looks gorgeous and i'm interested, but it made me just too nauseous to focus on playing it.
Honestly you're spending more time watching a walkthrough on where to go than actually knowing where to go for the first time playing this. Though the graphics make up for all whats negative
