Peak
I like it
Best war game ever
highway to the danger zone
Let me start by saying this:
I am Brazilian. Despite being the peak of modern-setting RTS this game is priced insanely.
I feel like Eugen puts absolutely no effort whatsoever into localization of pricing, which is very unfair and dumb of them to do. As it stands, this 2014 game is priced at 12% of a whole month of minimum wage in Brazil, and it is 5% of my own wage. While I talk about it to friends and acquaintances, I simply cannot recommend them to buy it here, it'd be an irresponsible decision, and if I were to be getting it nowadays I simply could not. This should not be the case, it should not happen for an over 10-year-old game. Eugen should seriously stop doing this and break the absolute stereotype of french studios.
Now with that aside:
I am grateful to have been able to buy this game, I have not put enough hours into it as I'd have liked, but with my play time, split between this, Escalation and Airland Battle, I have found it to be an almost perfect combination of complexity and depth, and playability. They clearly matured a bit in Steel Division by bringing some mechanics that made the game more approachable, but there's much to appreciate on the sheer volume of units here, the variability of decks, the amount of systems.
You still need a good grasp of specific unit type mechanics, but in my opinion they are not the greatest part of the learning curve if you have any sort of inclination or interest in military units and/or equipment, or even games that have them. No, the greatest challenge is learning how to effectively use those mechanics. It is literally the strategy.
Many people are not used to RTS having a unit-buy system I'd say, they still imagine buildings, builder classees, etc. For those people I say: Come prepared! This is a game that pulls from the tradition set by Ground Control, Blitzkrieg, World in Conflict, Men of War, it is a very balanced approach to basics of modern warfare with good complexity and realism, with mechanics that make it playable in a game format.
If this game was more reasonably priced, I'd have gotten all of the DLCs.
Unquestionable recommendation (to people Eugen allows to afford it).

good game, terrible accessibility, completely lacks competent tutorials, took 12 hours to start being even kinda fun, had to go to youtube for help
big war go buuuurh
Highly competitive wargaming
good game but imagine if there was a workshop
good game
Wargame: Red Dragon delivers unparalleled tactical depth and historical military fetishism wrapped in an engine that makes destruction beautiful. It's simultaneously the pinnacle of strategy game design and a disturbing example of how we've commodified conflict into entertainment. You'll learn more about Cold War military hardware than most history courses teach while completely disconnecting from the human cost such knowledge represents in reality.
if only the ai didnt have unlimited units
Still playing years after I bought it.
Toxic as hell, but fun game overall
It is exciting and also cinematic
Very tough and funny war game.
after not playing the game in awhile i reinstalled it and now I can't open the game due to the fact that i cant install a dll code and i re downloaded it multiple time checked the files and restarted my pc and nothing works
For all the military buffs out there, this game is a must-have. The meticulous management of each unit during a battle whilst fighting through 2 (sometimes even 3!) corridors is extremely engaging.
First - if you want to play a game, you need a manual or a tutorial to play it. If it´s not givin and you can´t play the game, you should give it a thumbs down.
Same here
Could be a good game? or not? You don´t know, cause there is no information how to play. And this comes from a gamer who played for decades. It´s not okay to get to know how to play by searching the internet. No recomodation here!
My biggest gripe is that zero effort went into the AI. Nothing but helicopter spam which is really sad because I want to like this game so much. Frankly it hasn't changed even with their new game WARNO. The developers just aren't learning from past mistakes and it shows. The only decent game from this developer is Steel Division 2, but instead of helicopter spam it is tank spam lmao. I'm just playing these games until operation arrowhead or whatever that new RTS is called that's coming out soon. The AI in that game was actually really fun to play and I cannot wait for it to come out so I can dump this company permanently.
Can you please put the option to turn off airplanes while playing vs Ai? Helicopters are fine but with airplanes it's too much for me.
Thank you folks.
fun game but the dude i used to play with had a drunken episode that resulted in him deleting everyone off steam.
because of this i can't play vs A.I. because its dogshit pointless.
the developers are the kind that will see you say a naughty word and take the role of your mother and ban you from playing the game at all.
i suggest avoiding this developer if they do that in their other titles as well.
game itself is fun with someone same skill level as you.
A Masterpiece of Large-Scale Modern Warfare
After nearly 200 hours in Wargame: Red Dragon I can confidently say that this is the pinnacle of large-scale, real-time modern warfare strategy. There aren't games that capture the sheer depth, scale and tactical freedom that Red Dragon has, making it an endlessly engaging experience for those who love detailed, strategic battles.
The open, well thought out battlefield design is one of the game’s strongest aspects. Every match feels like a living, breathing warzone, where terrain, positioning, and logistics matter just as much as firepower. The ability to command forces across land, sea, and air creates a truly dynamic battlefield that requires careful planning and adaptation. Whether you’re executing a well-coordinated armored push, setting up an ambush in dense forests, or calling in precise airstrikes, every decision carries weight.
The scale of battles is incredible. Seeing hundreds of units in action, from tanks and helicopters to mechanized infantry and naval warships, never gets old. The level of detail in unit design, sound, and visual effects makes engagements feel visceral and satisfying. Explosions are cinematic, tracer rounds light up the battlefield, and the chaos of modern combat is portrayed beautifully. The only thing I feel would add to the game would be dynamic weather and time change, battlefields having night time operation variants.
One of the most rewarding aspects is mastering complex battle tactics. The learning curve is steep, but the payoff is immense. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of different units, managing supply lines, and executing combined arms tactics makes victories feel truly earned. The deck building system allows for deep customization, letting players fine-tune their forces to match their strategic style.
Despite being released years ago, Red Dragon remains one of the best RTS games out there, with a dedicated player base and an impressive level of replayability. The sheer variety of nations, units, and strategies means no two battles are ever the same.
If you’re a fan of large-scale, realistic strategy games that reward tactical thinking and careful planning, Wargame: Red Dragon is a must-play. It’s a game that continues to impress even after hundreds of hours, and for anyone who appreciates detailed, authentic warfare, it’s one of the best experiences out there.
Забанили за правду
Fun for the most part if you play alone.
My main problem is why after i beat a campaign mission it just stays the exact same? no line through it no hint that I beat it and i can move on. it just stays like i never even played or beat the missions. Not sure whats up with that but the campaign stuff is just trash but if you like to just play skirmish then you will like this game. That's all i play the game for is skirmish otherwise this game just sits around uninstalled.
Good game
WOULD SMASH
the name reminds me of the of bad dragon the adult toy company

do not fight ai, ai mastermind... Player sometime smart but most time stubid... Im stubid...
My friend wont let me stop playing this forsaken game
Great game with good premise, inclusion of early to post-cold war assets and intuitiveness of game mechanics is great and immersive. But the controls of and micromanaging many units at once is hard for new players. It also feels like the AI always has more deployment points than humans...
Campaign is great, and realistic, but with the number of European DLCs and the Israeli one it would've been interesting to see one or two extra set in Europe or the Middle East.
Would only recommend if you are diehard about a tactical RTS like this, a bit outdated otherwise.
beutiful game
GREAT GAME ALL AROUND
cool game
very fun game
Though of playing this game because used to play turn based strategy games when I was a kid.
Started with the easy campaign.
Deployed the troops but don't not how to move them.
Enemy rushed me and took out the command unit.
Forgot about the units on the other side of the map.
Could not fight back and got massacred.
Can't imagine the very hard campaign.
Playing on the Steam Deck.. It runs amazing! The controls take a little getting used too but so far no problems! The graphics are good too! I'd say it should be Steam Deck verified but to login you need to utilize the keyboard!
Life Before Death.
Strength Before Weakness.
Game Play Before Graphics.
Childhood fantasies of making my toys go boom have been realized
the reality of the game and the game tactics
Why haven't I recommended this game already?
It's just the best RTS there is.
Don't bother with this game if you want single player modes. They're a buggy, janky, poorly made afterthought with lazy, cheating AI.
The campaign map mechanics are especially a mess, full of random quirks that make no sense. For instance, if an enemy attacks into your big army, none of your ground units can move until you fight the battle, and then the battle magically depletes ALL initiative (move points) for ALL your units! So they can keep you from ever moving your army again by just suiciding something tiny at you every turn.
And then the way zone control for battles changes is super buggy, the core logic itself is quite convoluted, there are a lot of reasons zone control can change from battle to battle. But even besides all those rules, sometimes it will just randomly change, you'll have just won a total victory and routed the enemy army, and then they attack again next turn and nonsensically you're knocked down to Alamo configuration (one zone versus all others) for no reason whatsoever.
I could go on...moving your aircraft to a new airfield uses up all movement, when it should be as simple as "hey, just land here when you're done this turn 'k?" The "routing retreating armies" mechanic seems like it wasn't playtested, it can be really easily exploited if you have a helicopter squad, doing silly nonsensical things like sending that heli squad out over an enemy sector so it doesn't get its entire initiative zapped by a fight, then when the enemy army routs, send those helis at the retreating army, and voila, you just eradicated an entire enemy army with 4 helis.
The git gud edgelords will say any criticism is because you suck, but no, I'm beating the campaigns. It just feels cheesy, buggy, and undeserved when you're losing, until you figure out how to exploit the AI and janky game mechanics, and then it feels cheesy, buggy, and undeserved when you're winning.
Very fun, even more fun with friends
The Bussyan Pocket
why's there good gameplay in my racism game?
good RTS to rival the memes of original command & conquer: red alert, just NEVER look at war chat :)
One of the best RTS games. Not super easy to learn right away but after a few hours this game turns into a top 10 FPS. Lots of unit variety.
