About The Peninsular Campaign
The Peninsular Campaign is an independent campaign based on the conflict in the Spanish Peninsula between 1811 and 1814. It was during this era that the Spanish resistance gave their style of fighting its name: Guerrilla, or the “little war”.
Play the campaign from three different perspectives, each with a unique feel:
• The French fight to keep resistance at bay while converting regions to their political alignment.
• The British are very limited for regions at the start but receive enough income from Northern Europe and North America that they can afford to liberate regions back to the Spanish in return for Guerrilla aid.
• The Spanish also have a limited starting position but have permanent access to Guerrillas for effective battlefield use against the French.
Choose one of the three nations involved - France, Great Britain or Spain - and experience one of the most intense conflicts of the Napoleonic era.
Key Features:
• A new and independent Iberian Peninsula campaign map featuring 32 controllable regions.
• 5 new Guerrilla unit types, recruitable by all nations, adept at battlefield stealth and with the added ability to deploy outside of their faction's deployment zones: Tiradores (Skirmisher Infantry), Cazadores, Lanceros (Lancer Cavalry), Husares (Light Cavalry), Leader (General).

About Coalition Battle Pack
The Coalition Battle Pack features 6 brand new units and contains the Battle of Friedland fought between France and Russia.
The Battle of Friedland (14 June, 1807) with Napoleon's empire at its height, he took a chance and defeated Russia in detail, knocking them out of the war and bringing the Fourth Coalition to an end.
Unit Descriptions:
• Lifeguard Hussars: This fast light cavalry unit is best used for dealing with skirmishers and artillery who can attack from long range.
• Coldstream Guards: Disciplined, well-trained and respected, these elite foot guards inspire nearby troops in battle.
• Archduke Charles' Legion: This highly-disciplined line infantry regiment excels at weapons drill and accuracy.
• Luetzow's Freikorps: Swift light cavalry, the riders of Luetzow’s Freikorps are excellent in melee and on the charge.

More Polished than Empire, better unit balancing, simplistic campaign map features. AI is really bad but there is a multiplayer option if you can get someone to play with you. But other than that generally well balanced game.

Really detailed game. I'd say it's ahead of it's time because of the graphics, details, etc. This also has very great mods in my opinion, for example, I use the "Napoleon total war Remastered 3.0" mod, and I love it. Recommended if you're feeling antique!

Doesn't crash (unlike Empire Total War). One caveat; England seems to be poorly managed by the AI, it doesn't make use of the numerous trading positions available to it. I've seen endgames in which London has close to the lowest levels of government and military buildings. England's goal should be to fill the trade positions with merchant ships, and then invade Spain (as happened historically) to get at France.
The Best Nepoleonic Real time Strategy game that everyone must try. Real Time Military and Governance System makes this game soo real. Strategy Gamers will like this game for sure.
the artillery doesnt feel as powerful as in fall of the samurai but this game has a more simple construction system and focuses more on battles
The base game is okay. I really enjoyed it, but my favourite bit was the NTW3 Mod which completely transforms the game to be way more strategic and realistic. Would recommend the base though as well. :)
This is by far the most underrated Total War game ever made, the graphics are good, the ai is smart, and it all feels so realistic, my only complaint is theres no ai vs ai only.
--Campaign
Campaign mechanics are not overly complex and easy to understand, which I like, because you can focus on strategy and having fun, while not being bored or limited in your options. European map could be bigger. AI sucks and doesn't have any strategy at all (like in literally all CA games). Auto-generated maps in land and siege battles suck, since they are very simple and look almost the same.
--Combat
-Land battles
Major factions have some advantages and disadvantages, so you need to choose your army wisely, which I like. Some units are completely worthless though. The combat consists of both strategy and micromanagement, which feels nice to play - you need to master both, if you want to win. The balance of time to kill, shooting range, maneuverability is amazing. Probably the most complex and strategically interesting CA game along with Shogun 2 in terms of battles (but I don't like Shogun's increased infantry range and art's first person view(wtf?!)).
-Naval battles
There is a reason why no one plays them. They suck. It feels nice initially, but there is little diversity in them. If there were different maps which contain islands and coast that would have been much more interesting to play.
--Scenario battles
Here AI is scripted and sometimes it actually looks like it has some strategy. Overall, provides a decent challenge, especially for those, who never played CA games before. However, the amount of scenario battles disappoints considering how many battles were there during Napoleonic wars.
--Multiplayer
The chat was removed lol. Maps are decent, but half of the scenario battles are imbalanced in terms of army composition and terrain advantage. Also, people who played scenario battle before have a massive advantage, since it has no pre-game timer to evaluate the battlefield. And because there are no new maps, some people just play the same maps, like bots, and play every time exactly the same best strategy that they figured out. It's great that there is actually no skill-based matchmaking and your rating (or stars) don't mean anything, otherwise it would be impossible to play for some people, because they lost all their rating due to playing against human bots.
--Graphics & Sound

--Bugs
There are a lot of them. Some bugs even affect your gameplay and require you to take them into account while playing, otherwise you will lose.
--Conclusion
One of the best CA games theoretically. It has the most interesting setting out of all so far. No cringe top bar abilities, no constant boring melee fights with spears and shields. Decent campaign. It's worth to play it if you like RTS genre.
There could be so much more: bigger campaign map; smarter AI that doesn't use cheats in campaign and that has a strategy in battles; fixed all the bugs; a lot more scenario battles; new multiplayer maps every couple of months. Yet, it seems like CA's business model is creating a new game or a DLC as an update, rather than actually making your existing projects better. Maybe someday someone competent will figure out the true potential and will make a game like that, or someone will buy CA when they eventually go bankrupt and will update the game, but it's unlikely.
Was a good ride, now let's continue enshitiffication with other games.
This game is really for a particular Total War fan. I got bored a bit to quickly (mainly because of the age period the game is based on). I am more into the old age type of Total War games. But I am my preferences and so would any one else. Still worth getting it and having it in your Total War Collection of games.
Napoleon Total War is really fun in my opinion. When I discovered that Creative Assembly put out two titles (Napoleon and Empire Total War) that feature gunpowder combat, I was very eager to get them. I found the gunpowder combat a really refreshing change over medieval style combat. Another feature that I found interesting was the fact that there are naval battles. I found it to be a really good addition to the total war franchise, Having to maintain a navy and an army adds a lot of depth and playability
Managed to conquer the world as Sweden in Napoleonic era.
It was pretty funny having England and Russia team up with Napoleon against me.
Guess I can't have all the tobacco in the world. They were wrong....

Local War: Napoleon is a thrilling dive into one of history’s most intense and revolutionary periods. But unlike its predecessors, Napoleon doesn’t throw you into a vast, sprawling map of the world. Instead, it brings things down to a more personal level with a much tighter focus—just Europe. And I have to say, this works in its favor, creating a more immersive, “local” feel to the wars being waged.
¶ When it comes to historical accuracy, the game does a better job than previous entries. The campaign is driven by the events of the Napoleonic Wars, with everything unfolding in a pretty darn accurate way, from the battles to the politics. You won’t find yourself in some alternate history scenario where Napoleon conquers the Americas—what you get here is a deep dive into the actual events of the time. That doesn’t mean there’s no room for your own strategic brilliance, but the game is firmly rooted in the historical timeline, so it feels more like you’re playing through history, rather than rewriting it.
¶ A real standout in the game is the Peninsular Campaign DLC. It’s a standout piece that offers a fresh and highly enjoyable challenge. Fighting through Spain and Portugal with Napoleon's forces, trying to suppress guerrilla warfare and dealing with a mixture of powerful enemies—it’s not only fun but also a fantastic historical puzzle.
¶ Now, let's talk battles—because, honestly, Napoleon might just have the most satisfying combat mechanics in the series. The artillery has been massively improved, and now it can decimate enemy armies in seconds. When you line up cannons and let loose, it’s like watching a well-oiled machine of destruction in action. Nothing quite beats watching a massive cannonball tear through the enemy ranks, sending soldiers flying. The power of artillery makes battles feel more decisive and deadly than ever before, and this is especially true in the larger engagements.
¶ The AI has definitely leveled up since Empire: Total War. Gone are the days of the enemy charging at you head-on, no matter the cost. The AI is far more tactical, and it’s smarter about its maneuvers. You’ll find the enemy using clever flanking strategies and making real efforts to outsmart you on the battlefield. It’s a nice change that forces you to think more critically about your own strategies rather than just overwhelming them with numbers.
¶ Visually, Napoleon is a treat. The graphics have been significantly improved over Empire: Total War, and the battlefield looks stunning. The addition of smoke effects, exploding artillery shells, and the refined visual details make everything feel more visceral. It’s not just about soldiers firing rifles—it’s the sound of musket volleys, the smoke billowing through the air, and the crunch of infantry marching in perfect formation. The naval battles have received a major upgrade here, with the ocean looking gorgeous and the combat between ships feeling much more fluid and engaging than in Empire.
If you’re a fan of tactical warfare and Napoleonic history, this is a must-play.
What Empire Total war should have been. A damn good game and a best one at properly simulating the scale and dynamic of a early 19th century combat.
It is Garbage. it is not well made the battles are all grayed out from fog or rain. This was a money grab move by the Total war series, remember when a company does a money grab once they will do it again. Be very careful with what you buy from them . I will never pay for a Total war game again. They owe me for this this crap they released. Please do not buy it. Go on you tube and see how low end of a game this is.
Very cool game, I got to conquer Europe as Napoleon, I like it very much, its basically Empire: Total War but on a bigger scale on Europe and even more combat mechanics, this is like the war edition of Empire: Total War and also more modern because its set in the 1800ths

Good game, easy to learn the mechanics (if you like campaign mode its harder) but no gimmicks, the better tactics win the battle.
Amazing game. I am playing through a majority of the Total War games, and coming from Shogun 2, adjusting to the use of guns and cannons was a challenge but that only adds to the enjoyment. Napoleon's campaigns are a great introduction to Total War as a genre and I believe it is one of the best games in the genre. If you like history at all, the franchise is for you, and I STRONGLY recommend you play Napoleon. Easy 9/10
Very noice game, in my opinion one of the best in the series but mods make it feel much more complete, especially the mods which fix regiment sizes, other than that this game is worth the money even if it's a bit old.

The AI in the campaign really sucks but overall it is a fun and enjoyable game.
There are no two ways about it, this game is absolutely epic. The Iberian Peninsula campaign is also one of my favourites!
I just jumped into Total War for the first time. I had known about this game since I was a kid and never bought it before because my parents would not buy it for me. I had forgotten about it in my adulthood but suddenly I remembered how I would watch Youtube gameplay when I was younger and how it always looked so cool and fun. Well, I finally tried it out and my only regret is that I did not play it sooner. I have been hooked since I bought it and been playing it for hours every day. The battles are awesome and the strategy element really makes you feel engaged in the battle. The animations and graphics, even though considered old by today's standards, hold up really well and work perfectly for the type of game that this is. The strategy while in the campaign map (while outside of battles) can seem a little overwhelming at first for a first time Total War player but you quickly catch on and it can also be quite fun, adding to the total enjoyment of the game; forming alliances strategically, setting up trade routes, giving gifts or demanding other nations to embargo, attack, etc, other nations all to help you accomplish your goal of dominating the region can all be quite immersive. My high expectations for this game were met and my only issue with this game so far is that I wish the campaign map gameplay and strategies were deeper and that the overall campaign was a little longer. All in all, I do highly recommend this game even if you are new to strategy games; I come from consoles and never really dabbled into PC gaming.

Honestly, this kind of felt like just an expansion for Empire Total War, but I feel like this one is better. It has less bug issues, better graphics, better animation, and just overall, more of an improved version of Empire.

Pick France, assemble the grand battery of 50 howitzers and 12lber cannons as Napoleon intended. Spam the barrage button until it says A GLORIOUS VICTORY IS SOON TO BE YOURS. The nanosecond they realize their ingenious strategy of sitting on their ass for an hour has been made completely redundant, they will have dropped from the game.
Great game but riddled with bugs that totally brake the immersion. Won a once in a lifetime siege, only for all of my men to die on some stairs/ramp when descending a fortress. I quit mid game and remembered myself again why i stopped playing in the first place.

I approached Napoleon: Total War with skepticism. To me, it seemed like an expansion pack to Empire: Total War rather than a standalone game. But how wrong I was. Unlike the sprawling Rome series, which receives dozens of expansions and mods, Napoleon stands alone—no additional content, no DLC glut from the studio known for milking players. Creative Assembly’s infamous greed, unfortunately, tarnishes the experience, making you pay for the same game multiple times.
Yet, once I looked past this disappointment, I found a surprisingly intricate game, rich with historical detail. From firearms to the real names of generals and the geopolitical tensions of the era, the attention to historical context is palpable. Gameplay is finely tuned, and the battle mechanics have a realism that makes for some fascinating moments. For example, if you recruit mercenaries from nearby lands, they won't form neat, disciplined ranks—they'll stand awkwardly and out of formation. And the AI, while impressive in some respects, is a mixed bag on higher difficulties. It tends to spread into a single, wide line rather than form the proper battle columns of the period. Cavalry charges, too, often play out strangely, with horses running straight into infantry squares instead of breaking off when faced with a wall of bayonets.
However, what shines is the depth of the game’s economy and diplomacy. Managing resources and alliances is not only a necessary strategy but a genuinely engaging aspect of gameplay. These features draw you in, making you think not just as a battlefield commander but as a statesman balancing power and politics.
Napoleon: Total War is a rare installment that excels by staying within its limits. While it doesn't offer endless expansion, it delivers a tightly crafted experience that captures the spirit of the era in its own, standalone way. It’s a game that deserves a second look—just be prepared to pay for it, and pay again.

Total War: Napoleon remains one of my favorite real-time strategy games. Despite its age, it offers a comprehensive and detailed experience that stands as a hallmark of its genre. Its depth and timeless appeal make it a must-play for strategy enthusiasts. I highly recommend it! It's always a blast to challenge your friends in battle!
IF you take the time to play intelligently and with a bit of analysis, this will really exercise your thinking. Alternative approach is of course to go hack and slash and hope for the best.
Though this game is 14 years old, it's extremely fun! You get to command units throughout the battle and strategize your way to victory. The only complaint I could give is that sometimes it glitches out with the sound and replays it over and over again. I highly recommend this game for both you and your friends!
Seemed good, turns out it's lying about multiplayer, you will get "Failed to connect" endlessly when you attempt to play with anyone, the circlejerking TW fanbase will naturally, obfuscate this fact from you, but this game could be a good singleplayer game but absolutely don't bother if you want to play with friends, definitely not in "you have friends" category of good games.
After going on a youtube history binge of Napolean, I had to rewrite history. As the British, I took over Paris in 1805 and immediatley built a fort, knowing there would soon be many attempts to take it back. Fun!
Long ago Creative Assembly made polished, simple games with high replay value. They hired excellent programmers and skilled artists to make fantastic games.
This gem of a game came out between some of the greatest Total War games to date, four years after Medieval 2 and one year before Shogun 2.
Can you imagine CA putting out two stellar historical games in two years?
The battles are some of the best in the series. I get a little nervous before bouts because it feels and sounds like I'm on a 19th century battlefield. The cavalry charges, artillery barrages and hand-to-hand combat look fantastic.
Fortresses, town layouts and fields make for interesting decision making. I don't find the AI to be completely terrible either, as when, in older titles, the enemy simply clump together to be flanked on all sides.
Along with Medieval 2 and Shogun 2, this might be my next favorite title. I'm not very far into this game, but its pretty good even on vanilla. I'm interested to see what kind of mods are available for this as well.
Finally, I've read a lot about this game running poorly, but I find it on par with the performance of Shogun 2.

This game has everything you want if you're a fan of the Napoleonic Wars. The developers have done an amazing job depicting the different battles, events and campaigns that occurred during the Napoleonic Wars and especially well with the Egyptian Campaign. The quality of the textures is fantastic and the way they display each soldier moving individually is just mind-blowing. The craziest part is that this was made in 2010!
I am astonished by the work Creative Assembly and its developers have done. I would also like to note that this is definitely not 16+ . I would go as far as to say it's 10+, since multiplayer is optional, and I have not found any ways of communication with other players. The most I would be worried about is having a heart attack because of the stunning beauty of the game.
If you're still unsure of getting this game I would suggest watching the gameplay trailer because that gives a lot more information than the normal one. In short, yes, I would highly recommend getting this game and with mods you will be able to enjoy this product for years after your well-made decision to purchase Total War: Napoleon.
Dunking on Napoleon has never been more satisfying.

Tho honestly, both Barbarian Invasion and Fall of The Samurai feel like their own games compared to this.
An all time classic. Napoleon Total War III mod makes the game into something that must be played by anyone interested in Napoleonic era combat or its history. 10/10
