Sniping enemy anti-air with SEAD aircraft is one of the greatest feelings in the world
A great simulator type game with realistic combat for example: infantry cant beat armor in the open field but in a building they can hold their own against most things. i have played for around a week and already like it a lot

has good potential but it´s trush: AI exagerating on bonuses, CTD Crush mid campaign, no update anymore. Just garbage, not supporting these devs, they are just too childish
Almost 180 hours in, so thought it might be worth a short review to show my appreciation of this classic RTS. Second game in the Wargame series and one I go back too time and time again, only last week I managed a few more hours to my tally. The title of the game is taken from a strategy doctrine that was devised in the 70's and 80's to counter a Soviet backed combined arms attack in Europe (according to the US Defense Department).
A word of warning, if you've not played any of the franchise, I'd honestly recommend cutting your teeth on the first game (European Escalation) as the training levels are good and help you to familiarise yourself with the controls, units and tactics.
I absolutely love the European Cold War theatre setting and Airland Battle allows you to play a wide selection of countries not usually covered; Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Czechoslovakia as examples. This opens up a really awesome range of over 700 units. You'll also get access to certain prototype units (such as F-117), giving a nice "what-if" vibe to the scenarios.
I play exclusively offline, so the lack of players on servers isn't an issue and I'm totally happy with my decision 😊 - there's enough entertainment in the Campaign and Skirmish modes to keep me fighting for hours. If you're wanting the thrill of online multiplayer, then Wargame Red Dragon might be a better choice, as there are still a relatively high number of players to be found.
Due to the game being 11 years old at time of writing, there's an absolute ton of online references and Youtube videos that should answer any question you can think of. Despite its age the gameplay is good and the attention to detail and overall depth means it stands up well against more modern titles.
The game runs perfectly fine on both my older PC and bog-standard i5 laptop using Intel HD onboard, and with tweaks to the settings you could make this run on any modest hardware. I'd personally hang on until it is on sale, as it then becomes an absolute must-have addition to any keen wargamers library.
I'm very happy with this game. My ultimate fantasy is that this and Red Dragon are merged into one Ultimate Edition which would offer just about limitless playability, but due to programming differences between them this aint ever going happen sadly. Regardless of this Airland Battle hits the spot perfectly for those wanting some Cold War RTS action.
The best game of this kind, unfortunately the developers rushed to develop red dragon and left this masterpiece unattended. Would be great to see DLC's linke Nations packs in RD. Still more playable than RD!!
