How playing this game felt half the time: Have y'all ever met someone that just lied for No Reason? Just walking around with LIABETES!
i pre orderd this game long long ago and my pc broke many many years ago fast forward to now finally beat the game 73hrs total 8/10 would recommend one of the better investigation police games out there oldie hidden gem
Truth: You can certainly have fun stepping into the role of an ex-WWII-GI-turned LAPD detective, seeing what 40s LA looked like, & getting the feel of what a film noire game is like.
Doubt: How Rockstar adding a Ubisoftesque online DRM check can be good for the player base, that remastered content will ever be available for game on Steam, or that you can expect a happy heroic ending
Lie: This game is built for open world adventure
Evidence: The only thing to do outside of cases is about 1-2 hours of collectibles & whatever street crime events you haven't already played. Or blowing yourself up & trashing cars mindlessly; but that's not quite the point of a police game I would think. Outside the scripting of cases, roaming LA can feel like walking through an empty theater.
Good game but not a very good port for modern built PC. Overall, it's still playable. My current build component consist of RTX 4070 Ti Super, (GPU) Ryzen 9 9900X (CPU) and 48GB RAM @6000MT (2 x 24 GB) using with my 4K 160Hz monitor. It is a port directly from the Xbox 360/PS3 era. The FPS is capped at 30. It will need some third party mod patch to unlock the FPS to at least 60. Though, there will be some broken physics. Also, whenever I load this game, the screen always appear slightly off center and in windowed mode by default. When I changed settings to full screen mode or in game resolution, the sound completely cuts off which I have to restart the game playing back to off centered windowed mode default for the sound to work again. Bad optimization. Rockstar re-released this title for PS4/Xbox One with updated features and being capped to 60 FPS. It's one of the few PC ports that leaves a lot to be desired. It would been great if Rockstar officially patch this title for better optimization.
I'm terrible at reading women but ive never known that i'd just as bad reading people and their lies in general, explains why i'm so bad in among us.
Amazing game that I never wanted to end which is always like that with Rockstar's games but the last Chapter/case felt rushed and have some issues with Phelp's story telling towards the end of the 2nd last case of the game, even tho the game is trying to interpret that he's not a prefect man that the game made the player think he seemed to be.
Either way i love to consume anything that's noir or detective related as those are some of my favorite settings and this game is a mix of both which is a match made in heaven for me, and the jazz in this game especially the main theme is a chef's kiss
Shame they cancelled the sequel it's a very underrated game
I love that this game has similar game play to GTA. I enjoy being able to play as a detective and also still get to go on mini missions. I would not change a thing about this game. I even enjoy the story that goes behind it.
Still brilliant... (not only) if you like the MAFIA games ... and please install V-PATCH.
I just played (and finished) the game for the first time, despite it being 14 years old now. Let me just say, it is still brilliant and a must-play if you haven't done so yet. Especially fans of the MAFIA series, or these types of games in general, will very much like this game. It's just great overall.
On thing to note: the game is locked to 30 FPS. But luckily, there's a thing called V-PATCH nowadays which which takes care of that problem and (for me) worked 100% perfect: https://github.com/VaanaCZ/LANVP
Launcher ruins it. "offline mode cant be verified" I bought the game, assholes
I used to play this game for the Xbox when I was younger, I missed this game so much and I am so happy to play it again as an adult. 10/10 recommend for the people who like crime games like Sherlock Holmes investigation games.
Its good but the last part is pretty boring and repetitive. Get it if you like the overall gameplay otherwise don't. 7.5/10
Certainly one of the best works I've ever played. A deep, mature story about war, life, death, making choices, and facing their consequences.
This is a great game, but I have a problem and along with some others. Every time I try to save my game, it doesn't work. I restarted the story many times, tried different methods including my settings, yet it never saved. Just be aware this may happen.
Great cars. Great atmosphere. Good story. Feeling strong bond with Cole Phelps. Sad feelings after beating the game. Want to teleport to the game world. To that golden era. Such a great game and great people who created it.
Thank you.
A great game, and an underrated part of Rockstar's catalogue. This game is the Prima Donna of the Noir and Detective game genre. A masterpiece of a game, with an intriguing plot, intresting, flawed, and memorable characters, clues, cases to piece together, gunfights, car chases, and more, are just a few of the things that make this game great. This game will make you use your brain, and think about things logically. A must play for anyone who's into the detective or noir genre.
Very few games are made this well. The characters, even the NPCs, are so well fleshed out. The story and the cases actually mean something.
So glad to have played this.
I Played this originally on the 360 when it first came out. Playing this years later has been awesome so far. it is still one of the best games i have ever played. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes detective games.
do not buy this game, it forces you into downloading the Rockstar launcher and sign into an account that you may not have access to anymore, so it will not let you play this game without the BS launcher they retroactively put on a 14 year old game because they want to sell your data
Great game, well-developed story and characters. The facial technology is dated as shit and looks pretty bad at higher resolutions and natively caps the FPS to 30, but this can be fixed with a workaround. Still, would recommend just because they absolutely nailed the 1940s LA city vibe. Just a fantastic world to play in.
it a grate game but they removed my dlc i bought so not to happy about that so if you don't minde missing out on part of the game i guss it an alright one i do wwish they wouldn't of messed with the dlc tho it was not cheap to get.
Amazing game! 10/10 stars but climax scene sucks so bad that I am pissed. I just finished the game. Love you Cole Phelps 1247
To say this game is underrated is an understatement. L.A. Noire is very reminiscent of Bully and GTA 4, taking aspects of Bully's story telling while providing the world of the engine they used to make GTA 4, and colliding the aspects of both the create the murderous, "City of the Angels."
I am currently halfway through the main story, and I've loved every second of it. I find this game somewhere near the top of my GOAT list every time I try to rank it.
If you enjoy R* games, this is worth the play-through.
Nothing like this experience can be had anywhere else before or since. Skip the driving and side quest nonsense that feels tacked on to make it "open world" and enjoy solving the named cases. That's where the fun really is.
Has a compelling story with excellent performance by the cast. Considering the age of the game it's amazing how convincing & highly detailed 1940's Los Angeles is, including the people from that time period. The game isn't without it's flaws. Gameplay can be clunky at times and the main story length might be too long for most people. The world lacks interactivity even though it's detailed. There's collectibles, street crimes outside the main story/cases but that's about it. It's still fun to play and take in the sights, enjoy the wonderful selection of music.
Would definitely recommend this at a discount. It's also complete with all the DLCs.
This is incredibly fun to watch, but gets boring to play it yourself.
Nothing towards people who enjoy playing it, I just felt like I couldn't even get myself to play through the first few missions.
This game is indeed exactly what it appears to be. A magnificent detective story with tales and intrigues from the pre-World War II era. The gameplay mechanics for its time are captivating, but they don’t seem to have aged well. However, the story and the desire to know what happens next are still there.
I played this game in 2015 quickly to clear it from my backlog, but 10 years later, I returned and it was simply wonderful.
The music is incredible and i actually like the story so there
can't believe I slept on this for so long. Chill in combat but otherwise, action packed in every other sense. This game looks and plays better than some 2025 releases.
This game made me realize that I am bad at reading people's faces and guessing whether a suspect is lying or not.
A game in my backlog for over a decade, should be a crime worth investigating because dang this game still good in 2025.
The game is not what I expected it to be. I was hoping for a good detective game where I could tackle the case with my own way. What I got instead is:
- A game where I'm forced to follow a linear story line and every Person Of Interest is apparently a liar. I just don't get it, why would the writers made every single person a liar? That's unrealistic no matter how you look at it.
- Also, why would the developers add Open-World if there's nothing to do in said world except driving tirelessly to a crime location with no actual content to it? It would be nice if they made it, so we could visit shop or actually interact with this world instead of being limited to the crime scene only. That would make the Open-World aspect of it actually justified and immersive just like every other good open-world game.
- Does it make sense that I can't question a person of interest again about the same question with different approach and different response from the person(I mean like if I failed to properly get an answer out of them the first time, if I try again, the person would've been more prideful/rude, but I can play it down by using a different approach)? Why must I only ask the question that the game wanted me to ask instead of what I actually wanted to ask? I wish I could've just harass people with questions just like what police do in real life.
- I wish the partner system is more interactive and engaging like I could actually chat with them, they offer their own perspective, they actually have more use to them instead of being a simple guide that you bring with you everywhere, and they actually have their own strong suit and could ease a case depending on their skills. Like you know, an actual partner instead of your average bodyguard.
- Like others have pointed out, the game would've been more enjoyable if there's a quicksave mechanic.
- Finally, the interrogation system have potential, but could've really been improved. As The Mentalist fan, Patrick Jane showed us there are more than one way to detect lies.
I tried to force myself to like this game, but I just can't with how forceful the story and crime-solving aspect of it is. This game have unique concept and actual potential to it unlike other detective games, but the execution still fall flat compared to what it could've been. That's why it's called "potential".
If only there's a detective game out there with good gameplay and actual freedom for once without being a buggy mess or "potential game". I bet if such a detective game exist, the genre would've been 100x times more popular.
P.S. If you're looking for a unique way to solve a crime, check out The Mentalist. It might not be for everyone, but if it speaks to you, welcome to the community.
Played it in Black and White which I highly recommend. I think it makes the game feel more like the 50s setting. Play this if you like detective games.
way too many bugs to enjoy the game.
love the game, its best to play on windows rather than Linux as its a bit of a hassle but it does the job
After spending nearly 50 hours playing this game, I can proudly say that i suck at reading people's facial expression both in virtual and real world. If i was a cop, I myself would have been behind the bars before even solving my first case. I have sank my Police station in so much debt, because of the car and city damages. I would recommend this game to all the other gamers out there who also suck at reading facial expressions. And a huge shoutout to Rockstar games, for making such complex characters, who smirk and pout in between the interview.
This game has aged better than I expected. It is flawed, but simultaneously ambitious and I can respect that. Although a bit odd at times the plot is the main standout to me with some decent game play. At 30 hours of playtime without doing any side quest it is a bit too long in my opinion, but not unbearable.
L.A. Noire is hands down one of the best story-driven games I have ever played. From start to finish it completely immerses you in its gripping narrative stunning visuals and unforgettable characters. Set in 1947 Los Angeles the game places you in the shoes of Cole Phelps a war veteran turned LAPD detective who rises through the ranks while uncovering a web of corruption and deceit.
The storytelling in L.A. Noire is nothing short of masterful. Unlike many open-world games that focus on chaos and destruction this game thrives on meticulous investigation and compelling character development. Every case feels like a chapter in a crime novel pulling you deeper into a city filled with secrets. The way the game weaves real historical events with fictional elements makes it feel incredibly authentic. The dialogue is sharp the characters feel real and the overarching narrative is filled with twists and turns that keep you hooked until the very end.
One of the standout features is the interrogation and facial animation system. The developers used groundbreaking motion capture technology to bring characters to life in a way that had never been done before. Every suspect and witness has subtle facial cues that you have to analyze to determine if they are telling the truth or hiding something. This makes the game feel unique and forces you to pay attention to every detail. The feeling of satisfaction when you correctly call out a suspect on a lie is unmatched.
The open world of Los Angeles is beautifully crafted. It perfectly captures the post-war era with its vintage cars classic fashion and jazz-filled streets. While the city isn’t packed with side activities like other Rockstar games it serves as an atmospheric backdrop that enhances the experience. Driving through the city at night with old jazz playing on the radio creates an unforgettable mood that stays with you long after you put the controller down.
The game’s pacing is near perfect. Each new case presents fresh challenges and moral dilemmas. Some cases will have you questioning the nature of justice while others will leave you in awe of the attention to detail in crime scene investigation. The slow unraveling of Phelps’ past and his struggle with his own demons adds another layer of depth to the story. By the time the final case unfolds you are left emotionally invested in every character and their fate.
L.A. Noire is not just a game it is an experience. It is one of those rare titles that fully immerses you in its world making you feel like you are living in another era. The combination of a deep narrative top-notch voice acting and innovative gameplay mechanics makes it a masterpiece in storytelling. Even years after its release no other game has quite captured the same blend of detective work and cinematic storytelling. If you love games that prioritize story and character over mindless action then L.A. Noire is a must-play. It is easily one of the greatest narrative-driven games ever made and a testament to the power of storytelling in gaming.
GG's
Super interesting game; play as an ex Marine officer turned LAPD officer. Work your way up through the detective ranks as you gather evidence, conduct interviews and solve crimes. I would highly recommend this game to anyone. Rich story, cool mechanics, the only downside is it is getting older in graphics but the story and experience are too good to pass up.
The game defaults to the wrong monitor and this cannot be changed other than manually forcing it to switch. The game is also broken in that I cannot complete the Fallen Idol case because I can no longer interact with evidence and it continually crashes at the same cutscene. The game is bugged and has been reported as bugged for years with no patches or support. Highly disappointed
The wonky Rockstar launcher that will make playing the game you paid for a struggle is the reason why I'll never purchase another Rockstar game and find other means to acquire them.
Great game though - unique concept, strong film noir direction and the facial animation is still unparalleled today. Just a shame that Rockstar forces their annoying launcher on us that sometimes doesn't let you log in or launch the game, or crashes you out mid gameplay.
underrated gem
great storyline, unique gameplay, adherent portrayal to 1940s Los Angeles
a must play
L.A. Noire remains a fascinating technical achievement trapped in mediocre gameplay, much like how its protagonist remains a compelling character trapped in a rigid morality system. Worth experiencing at half-price if you can stomach the irony of investigating corruption while feeding the corporate machine that epitomizes it.
Really good ending, only negative thing is the amount of driving you'd be doing if you don't skip it by using your partner.
In any case, LA noire was a really good game with a fantastic idea, a realistic composition, and the kind of computer game we only dream of. Apart from that, a great story, along with beautiful music from the decades of that time, made for a beautiful cinematic game that still reminds us of the cinema of the 50s and 60s. The game still looks beautiful, but this title deserved a complete remake.
An amazing story that will pull you in. One of my all time favorite games. Has a few little bugs here and there, but what game doesn't.
a good detective game I wonder why rockstar didn't make more or at least a game that would be similar to this although I guess it probably was expensive to use facial expressions tech but it still would be nice if they did it again but I guess they're too busy taking down community made mods and gta 6
still though despite what rockstar became now it's still a good game
One of the greatest games in history, but also with the shittiest, most bullshit ending ever. 10/10
This game has one of the best soundtracks story and just settings its really something well never see again
The first part is more like a excellent detective getting promotion due to case-solving.
The last part shows more of the story about poverty and post-war marines.
Like Galloway the partner.
One of my favourite games!
I definitely recommend this game to a wide range of people, all the way from history enthusiasts to hobby detectives and puzzle lovers. This is certainly a one of a kind game with interesting characters, a deep story, and beautiful cars set in an Art Deco Amerian city with quite a large map on which many secrets are hidden. Only downside for me is the driving mechanics, but I was quick getting used to those.
Amazing game, great story. Well worth a buy.
