An interesting game. Unique in its gameplay—I’ve never seen a game with such unusually detailed faces. The story is slightly above average, but otherwise, the game is very repetitive, even though it can be completed in about 20 hours (even less without DLCs). However, the environment is excellent, and the characters are entertaining—except for the most important one, the main character. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a worse-written character. Perhaps if they’d focused on the story earlier instead of in the last 80% of the game, it would’ve been better. When the game is on sale, I can’t help but recommend it. A hidden gem from Rockstar. 7/10
Such a good game. Everything from the cases to the characters and acting. I wish the Arson cases were delved into a little more, same with you-know-who at the end. All in all, worth the buy imho.
Great game, Been playing more than my steam hours ofc. The facial reading for determining truth or lies is still unmatched in todays games.
THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE!
It feels like I am watching a detective/mystery TV show which I am a huge fan of! It had me hooked from start to finish. The slow build-up is absolutely worth it, and while I won't spoil the story, I can say it's very well written! 10/10 for most of the chapters. And not to forget, the facial animations in this game is mindblowingly good and detailed! Also exploring 1940s Los Angeles is a truly a delight.
L.A. Noire is truly one of its kind. It's a real shame there isn't other game out there that scratches this exact itch. If you're a fan of detective and mystery stories, this is a must-play.
This game really makes you feel like a professional detective of the LAPD. To be honest, this game can be repetitive sometimes, but addictive at the same time due to a great storyline behind Cole Phelps. You really have to take your time and assimilate the cases properly and find all the clues to find out the real guilty. What make me really love this game is the 40s atmosphere, on the post-war period, and of course see LA and Hollywood recreated on these period, with the old cars, interesting places, clothing, lifestyle... The face MotionScan is something unbelievable for a game made in 2011, so original and novel, the facial expressions just seems like real people that you can understand only seeing his facial movements. Love that LA Noire mention the atrocious murders of Elizabeth Short and Jeanne French (Celine Henry in-game) by probably the mysterious Werewolf, besides you can do two cases about these murders and investigate them.
Will not load my current gaming device (12th gen i9 intel, GTX 3070Ti, 64GB RAM) due to "unexpected error". Despite numerous re-installations, verifications, admin-based restarts, no luck. A great game, but certainly not receiving the updates/QA required.
This game was pretty fun. I enjoyed uncovering the greater mystery at the end of every desk and the overarching story finishes up in a relatively interesting way. Picking up all the newspapers gives a lot of context for the main story. Each case takes about an hour and there's 26 cases divided across 5 desks (the types of crimes you're solving). There's also 40 short street crimes that take a few minutes which pop up from time to time.
The truth/doubt/lie system is a little clunky, but you get used to it after the first few cases. The faces of the people when you're interviewing them are pure comedy, best part of the game. Driving around feels good, but you can really speed up the game a lot by having your partner drive. It really rewards you for uncovering all the clues in each crime scene. Can't really speak to the graphics quality or the accuracy of the 1947 Los Angeles it portrays since I'm playing it 13 years after it came out. It looks like an old game, and the dialogue definitely matches the times. I found it all pretty easy to look past.
If it's over 50% off, you enjoy the puzzle/mystery genre and/or you like other games by Rockstar, I'd say it's worth a picking up and playing through. The achievements are a bit of a grind though, don't think I'll be coming back to 100% it.
I left the rockstar launcher open when I left for vacation and now steam thinks I've played this game for 115 hours. Still, top quality ambiance, story, and janky gameplay.
I like rockstar games, this isnt like gta if thats what your thinking, i got in the sale, but i think its worth the full price, its different.
You get 2 hours playtime limit for your refund, you will know if its for you or not by then.
The game is nice for its age, but has some bugs. Im gonna add that this game is kinda morbid.
Is the narrative of game good ? Yeah. Is it worth buying ? Depends, if any detective game interest you. But overall it's an excellent & entertaining game made by Rockstar, so it's definitely worth trying at least.
I love this game! If you are into crime solving with clues and forensics you will love this game too! I have played it on PS3/PS4/PS5 and PC. It controls similar to GTA in many aspects and the graphics look similar in that aspect too! If you think you are a good sleuth I would recommend in giving it a try!
this game is fire ive started walking around in a suit and tie stroking my beard thoughtfully and going "hm... something isn't adding up here." in public and it's really boosted my confidence
Gosh, what I can say? Fantastic game all around, even all these years later for a first play through.
Phenomenal story, impressive facial expressions (for the time), and really interesting setting for post-war 1940s LA. The writing is incredibly smart and ties in through so many repeating themes and nods to what comes next. Acting is very good and feels authentic to the time period.
If any game deserved a sequel, L.A. Noire would be that game. It's a shame we won't see another game like from the Rockstar team again, but it is still a fantastic thriller to play through.
Interesting game with some unique mechanics. It's just too that the PC port is absolutely horrendous. It is in my opinion not playable. But if there ever is a decent patch or remaster I will consider finishing it.
L.A. Noire is a game that highlights revolutionary developments in graphics. Showcasing its MotionScan technology, the game began paving the way for titles like The Last of Us and Until Dawn. Its open world, set in bustling 1947 Los Angeles, is full of historical monuments, an original score mixed with real world tunes, and many cases based on real crimes from the 20th century. This works aptly to create an immersive piece of historical fiction. Granting any player an action filled adventure, full to the brim with detective drama and seedy corruption. All within the iconic atmosphere RockStar games has been producing for 26 years.
Overall, the gameplay of L.A Noire is mediocre in today’s standards, even with the game’s remaster hitting shelves in 2017. Gun play is fairly smooth and finds a way to keep you on your toes most of the time; while both car and foot chase scenes can leave a lot to be desired. Driving without a police siren shows how poorly NPC AI is, as cars and pedestrians make continuous mistakes. Leading to collisions with the player and other NPCs. It may not be bothersome to most players, but having to constantly drive with the siren to get between locations breaks immersion and creates continuous white noise while attempting to enjoy conversations with your partner or L.A’s historic scenery.
The puzzles and cases in the game range from being idiotically obvious or oddly stupefying; making each case interesting in its own way. Interrogating witnesses and suspects still feels unique when compared to videogames before and after L.A Noire’s release, and the “Doubt” meme still circles around some internet circles in 2024. Signifying it’s still remembered in some of the cultural psyche. This feature allowed Team Bondi to spotlight the MotionScan technology they spent years attempting to perfect, as cluing in on facial features and paying attention to evidence is vital to solving these portions of every case.
Unfortunately though, the cost of using MotionScan and the time involved with incorporating it into the game caused the team to cut some corners, while still undergoing RockStar game’s infamous “crunch”. Something that was far too common in the ambitious titles of the 2010s, and is still prevalent into today's titles. At times, L.A. Noire’s story feels rushed and unexplained. Gathering various collectables around the map is encouraged, as they help fill those gaps. Still, I often found myself wondering about a character's motivations because of a lack of build up, and sometimes I found myself disappointed with the outcome of various cases and storylines because of this. Despite it all, L.A Noire pays great homage to classic Noir media. Upholding the genre’s various stereotypes in a tasteful manner helps paint a picturesque, morally grey area. Purposefully leaving the player with proper disappointment and/or philosophical interludes as a means to uphold the grisly themes of the genre. Sometimes the line between rushed content and purposeful writing choices is blurry. Making it hard to digest what’s going on and leaving it up to the consumer to decide if something’s missing or if it was a masterful design choice.
L.A. Noire is not just a historical benchmark for the videogame industry but also a historical piece of media as a whole. Despite its flaws, the game holds up. Offering us an interactable look into the Noir genre while exploring its dark themes and storylines. The game asks you to question not only the evidence and witnesses but also the motives of Cole Phelps, his partners, Jack Kelso, and every other prevalent NPC that weaves their way into the story. Anyone looking for a change of pace should consider visiting, or revisiting, the deadly streets of 1947 Los Angeles.
L.A. Noire is one of the few games out there that forces the player not to strategize, but to analyze. You’re studying the human face, gathering evidence and coming to conclusions based on that evidence. I just love the whole 1940s vibe so much the cars, style, music. Say what you will about the quality of the game, but to this day it is still one of the most distinct ones out there. Rockstar should give L.A. Noire another shot it would do really well.
Game won't run Error 0xc000007b
Tried all the fixes, reinstalled .net 3.5, reinstalled direct X, Reinstalled Visual C++ to no avail.
Tried installing this on 3 different computers, all got the same error.

A dark and violet crime drama, set in the backdrop of 1940s Los Angeles
L.A. Noire is an action-adventure game developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games. It's an exceptional crime thriller set in the golden age of Hollywood. The powerful combination of acting, writing and direction make for an unforgettable narrative where a detective has to uncover the truth in a city where everyone has something to hide.
Narrative and Gameplay
The City of Angels has some devilish roots
After an honorable discharge from the US Military, First Lieutenant Cole Phelps joins the LAPD. Just an year on the beat and his brilliant results already land him the role of a Detective. Working each desk of the department and rising through the ranks slowly reveals a bigger, much more disturbing picture, of how the City of Angels really looks. As per the game's name, there is a lot of inspiration taken from classic Noir films of that period. Every case feels like an episode of a Noir show, and while they feel unrelated at first, all cases eventually present a bigger story, one which is anything but angelic. The main protagonist also develops gradually through the game, his backstory is revealed in parts, through flashbacks triggered in different cases. The city changes everybody and everybody really has something to hide. It's a mature and well-written story, which should be experienced slowly.
True detective work is needed in order to crack this case
L.A. Noire is one of the only, if not the only, game that covers this niche genre. This is certainly not "GTA as a cop". There are not as many shootouts throughout, there are some, but they don't happen as frequently as in other Rockstar titles. Detective work is at the center of gameplay, you must carefully examine clues and link evidence in order to solve cases. Interrogation questions also play a big role here, they are well written and challenging enough to get right, especially on a blind playthrough. Shooting and driving mechanics are simple but they get the job done in a game like this.
Technical Aspect
Under the artistic hood, L.A. Noire is also a technical marvel, especially for its time. Proprietary MotionScan technology is used to capture an actor's face and movements in order to make a cinematic experience. This is interesting technology that is not really used anywhere else and, in my opinion, it still holds up even to this day. There are some weaker technical aspects, of course, such as driving and shooting. They are not the main focus of the game and thus aren't as polished as those in GTA, for example.
PC version of L.A. Noire is fine, for the most part
Since L.A. Noire is a Rockstar-published title, it is bound to have some jank on PC. Thankfully it is nothing like GTA Trilogy or Bully. The main issue most people would have is the 30fps lock. PCs these days are far more powerful and can run this game without issues. The reason it's locked to 30 is due to the facial technology. All facial scans and animations were made for 30 FPS, unlocking the framerate is possible with external tools but it's not really recommended. The game's narrative and structure work like a movie, there are many cutscenes that transport you in the world of 1940s Los Angeles and if you pay attention to those, you'll get used to the framerate quickly. I've only played this game on Xbox 360 prior and had no idea PC ran at 30 FPS as well, with that said, after like 10-15 minutes I already stopped paying attention to the frames and had no issue with the lock at all.
Definitely check out this masterpiece
L.A. Noire is unique and bloody brilliant, if you are even remotely interested in this genre, definitely give it a shot. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Unless you don't care about stories and only appreciate high-octane gameplay... if that's the case then this likely won't be your cup of tea.
There's so much potential here that is lost to its extremely repetitive gameplay, the length overstaying its welcome by a good 10-15 hours, and the characters and dialogue being literal dog poop. After a certain point--let's say the homicide desk--the only thing keeping this game together is the noir vibe and atmosphere, but atmosphere can only take something so far. It would have been top tier had it ended there despite the horrible dialogue between Cole and his antagonistic partners and the bad cop technique writing. I love classic film noir and neo-noir, and this game gets it, but that's about it. I even took a break of two months to finish the vice desk, and I just sat down to play the last mission and I'm still just as fed up. A real shame.
L.A. Noire takes us back to the 50's in the famous Hollywood city. Play as an L.A.P.D. detective named Cole Phelps and solve increasingly mysterious cases. It's an amazing crime thriller game with some very good graphics and a nice ambiant. It really worth it and I highly recommend it!!! 🖤🖤🖤

For quite frankly being the most incompetent bunch of wets any consumer has had to deal with.
You supply the things they ask for, then you're passed to the next person who ignores previous messages, then you supply the info again, then your're passed to the next person, and the cycle continues.
F Rockstar Games.
Rockstar waited 13 years just to add their shit launcher and online-only DRM rather than focusing on the fact that the game is still locked to 30fps and runs like shit on modern systems without tweaks.
But hey, at least I can still LARP as a 1940s LAPD detective
This game is a MASTERPIECE, way ahead of it's time. Definitely on the same level as the Max Payne franchise and my top 10 of all time. Story follows about a man with ambition and self interests trying to be as picture perfect as possible but the world and the experiences he gets started knocking on who he really is. The classic noir anti hero trying to build himself and those around him as hard as he could but reality makes him question everything. It's a must play if you like stories with noir genre or philosophy.
game made me use my brain that I don't got but the story imo was really good but the ending was absolutely crazy and sorry for spoilers but why he gets demoted was just insane
A very well calculated game...
L.A. Noire is a narrative-driven detective game developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games. Set in post-World War II Los Angeles, the game combines traditional open-world exploration with investigation-focused gameplay, offering a unique blend of noir storytelling and interactive drama.
Pros:
Atmospheric Worldbuilding: The recreation of 1940s Los Angeles is stunning, with period-accurate vehicles, clothing, and architecture.
Compelling Story: A mature, complex narrative explores themes of corruption, crime, and morality.
Innovative Facial Animation: The use of MotionScan technology provides realistic facial expressions, crucial for interrogations.
Engaging Investigations: Piecing together clues and solving cases feels rewarding and immersive.
Cons:
Repetitive Gameplay: Investigations and interrogations can feel formulaic after a while.
Linear Case Progression: Despite the open-world setting, the story offers limited freedom in how cases are solved.
Stiff Action Mechanics: Combat and driving sequences lack the polish found in other Rockstar titles.
Verdict:
L.A. Noire is a must-play for fans of crime dramas and detective stories, offering an engaging narrative and a meticulously crafted setting. However, its gameplay limitations and repetitive structure may not appeal to everyone.
Pretty boring game.
The story is awesome, however the playability sucks.
Is good Idea for a movie or series.
The facial expression are kind of weird but it helps to get clues easier.
The playability is basically a loop:
-Get clues
-Interview
-Get more clues
-Interview
-Clues
-Catch the culprit
-Reapeat
Loved the story but I got bored. I just finished because I like to finish my games.
It is not bad, overall. Nonetheless, drastically changing gameplay during the production, making choices more penalising and less open-ended, is bad. Utterly villainous?...
Amazing game... for 2011
Unfortunately, it is unplayable in 2024. Graphics are really horrendous and it is locked at 30 fps. I wouldn't spend money on this, despite the fact that it is a good game. Maybe try the console editions instead which are remastered a bit better.
Love the story.
Download V-Patch for a much better gameplay.
Such an interesting and awesome game! The gameplay might seem simple because of its age, but it still offers really cool puzzles and hints, plus the investigation part is pretty detailed. I’m seriously hyped for the second game in the series to drop!
Best investigation game I've played yet. Lot's to do, very interactive. Highly recommend.
What a game. If you like plot, detective work and a 1940s style setting. This is your jam. Main story is quite long and engaging! Fun game. Absolutely sets the standard for a solid single player gaming experience. Highly recommend!
Unique, immersive and anxiety inducing. L.A. Noire is a fantastic detective game, where the protagonist has to solve numerous crimes from seemingly simple hit and run to a complex disappearance story with meany unknowns. Player has to pay close attention to the aneswers and facial expressions, and choose the right response. The games graphics are in between mafia 1 and mafia 2, closer to mafia 1 tho. Driving is..... arcade and unpredicteable. Overall 9/10 I recommend the game.
I remembered playing this game when i was younger, and a few years later i enjoy playing it again! The graphics are a bit outdated but still enough for the gameplay.
It's very fun to play as a detective, really feels like you're doing real investigations. By default clues are highlighted when you get close, which is a bit too easy, i suggest disabling the hints, makes the story feels more real.
A chill and fun game, if you enjoyed the movie LA confidential you'll like this game as well!

Might be an okay game but Rockstar's launcher eats saves on steam deck like candy, so it's a bad buy.
LA Noire is one of the best games ever developed by Rockstar Games. Unfortunately, following the same trend we've come to expect from them, the company couldn't care less about the quality of their product on PC, as they released this horrendous port that runs worse than it did on a PS3 ten years ago.
A must-play for lovers of both history and video games.
On one hand L.A. Noire offers us a glimpse into a time long gone. A glimpse into the post-war period and the fear that came with it.
But the game is also a piece of modern video game history. As far as I'm aware, Studio Bondi and their work on L.A. Noire, though incredibly troubled, was one of if not the first major applications of face tracking technology. We saw this technology improve and be applied in later games published by Rockstar, and I suspect this game was the catalyst.
This game does such a good job at providing an experience that is realistic and puzzling for it's age. Shame it's concept was never revisited.
A little late to the train, but those like me who have held off on playing LA Noire, I highly recommend taking the next opportunity to pick this up. While the remastered version has yet to be released to PC, it is still an exceptional example of Rockstar's strong points. The story of Cole Phelps, LAPD officer, starts off as seemingly the "Chosen One", but much like the evidence in each case, reveals more facets to Phelps than what is first seen. While the act of investigating a scene can be troublesome at times (with a lack of direction on some larger crime scenes), the pay off is significant. The animation of expressions still holds up more than a decade later and the story telling elements keep you guessing and eager for more. In summary, LA Noire is a wonderful game that still holds up after all these years with a story that is sure to keep you on the streets and investigating.

Great game. Starting it a second time, so I can do all the extra calls along the way.
Paying my respects to the dev and other teams who sacrificed for this game. It is worth it for me. May God make it worthwile for you guys as well. You sacrifices day in and day out has not gone in vain. I have learnt and enjoyed it a lot. Thank you again! Godspeed ladies and gents!
The game overall seems quite nice. I love the thriller detective theme so I am a bit biased. However, even though in general the gameplay is alright, the fact that we need to use powers of divination to guess what the devs want with the questions when interviewing suspects is quite annoying. Sometimes the clues match the question "topic" but does not match the conversation, some other times it is actually what we want, and some others even though the clue has everything to be relevant, the correct answer is "Doubt". What in the end makes me give a negative review is the fact that I cannot proceed with the game due to some issue in the House of sticks mission. When I get to the projector, it restarts the game or sometimes just crashes,. Tried verifying files integrity and everything but nothing works.
PS: The fact I have the game on steam and still need to install and create Rockstar accounts crap is also highly annoying.
The "Could've been" game to me, so many interesting ideas and intriguing stories as you climb the ranks of the department of justice, the investigations and the conclusions to these cases are so cool, some are based on real life cases that happened but it always just falls short of greatness, so sad that the studio went bankrupt but this game is so good and if you love Noir this is your type of game, also if you can tell someone is lying from over expressive facial expression than youre gonna love this mf!
Great game, loved the crime detective role, loved the scenery. The only thing is it seemed a bit short, I ran out of things to do in the end. Please Please make another one with a bigger map and more detail just like the GTA series. Brilliantly done and nothing else like it.
i love this game, Detective Phelps story was incredibly moving, and heartbreaking. The game takes you through a wide range of emotions, all while teaching you actual investigative techniques.
