Amazing game. A bit short, if you don't want to do all the achievements at least.
But the story, gameplay, voice acting, characters, art style, music, they are all worth it.
The game is just good. I recommend it.
This game is honestly a lot of fun! It is so inspired by Sonic that the small idiosyncrasies threw me off a little bit, but I got used to it quick. The level design is great along with all of the mechanics, only big complaint is that I feel like enemies should sporadically drop health. There's one later on that does, and it's just confusing to me why that wasn't the case for more enemies.
But the music is incredible, the levels are all fun, and the bosses are cool as hell. Big recommend. 10/10
this is easily on of the best 2D fast paced platformer ever made !
my on criticism is that the time attack\level select mode kinda bad it does not work like real TAM and when u restart the level it sends you back from ur last checkpoint not from the beginning of the level
For a game that only costs $15, this really is a neat project. From the pixel art to the soundtrack, this game really is an A-tier in my book. For the levels, what I really like about them is how they're not some multiple passage maze-like nonsense that sonic mania has. They're all pretty simple and it really is recommended considering most people don't like replaying the same single player platformer game. Unless they just got nothing better to do.
Another thing that I like is how you have health in this game. Like you can get hit multiple times and still be alive. Now, you could say, "Oh, but you can do that in sonic mania. Just collect a coin after you get hit." And yeah, that is true, but if you get unlucky, you might not GET a coin back. Especially if they fall into the void. Like I prefer the fixed amount of hits I can take rather than having to hope that I can grab one of my coins in order to take another hit. And yeah, you may have less invulnerability frames than sonic mania does but that makes sense considering you have tons of health. But nonetheless, it's better than having to chase after 1 single coin.
Another thing that this game does better than sonic mania is how you don't get hit just for simply touching an enemy. I really don't know why this still exists today. I mean, I understand in the arcade days, you gotta make people die a lot more to make them pay for the arcade machines. But in today's day and age, this mechanic is so unnecessary. Like seriously, you should not get hit just for simply touching an enemy or by passing right by them. Like oh my goodness. But yeah, props to GalaxyTrail for not implementing that and ACTUALLY giving the enemies an attack animation rather than just, "oh, you touched this guy? Get hit." 'cause that mechanic is so cancerous like oh my goodness.
Now, with everything that I have pointed out on what this game does better than sonic mania, I know some guy is probably gonna come in here and say, "Oh but you need to collect 200 crystals in order to get an extra life, rather than 100 coins in sonic mania." And while that is true, lives don't really matter in this game 'cause once you get put into that "continue?" screen, you can just simply press, "yes" and continue from your last checkpoint with 5 extra lives. Also, another thing, I like this game's continue screen. It looks really cool and the music really fits the atmosphere of it. Very impressive.
But yeah, I could go on & on and praise this game day & night, but I think you get the idea. This game is so much better than sonic mania. Especially with the amazing pixel art, the music, great gameplay, no woke nonsense, heck, they actually added male & female bathrooms in this, cool bosses, great worldbuilding and story for that matter, 3 characters you can play with that have different move-sets and cutscenes, great achievements, all for just $15 (and sometimes put it on SALE for 50% off???)? This game deserves higher praise man. Like seriously, bless these devs for publishing an amazing game with bugs that can only occur if you intentionally find a complex way to make them happen. Like the speedrunners do. But all in all, 10/10. Definitely deserves Overwhelmingly Positive reviews. Most definitely deserves it.
P.S. I like Torque's, "Thank you." near the end there. Sounds veryyy... charming.
Good game, very good game.
Shame some characters were never finished.
I love this series. I'm suprised how under the radar it was for this long and how barely anyone has given it a spotlight it deserves (Well that I can find.).
The Gameplay is very snappy and fits perfectly, and also how every character plays differently while reusing maps for every character, they can still play just as good for all three of them.
Ngl Carol kinda got me into this game so long ago and I finally got to play the game myself so take a WILD guess who I picked to play first? :)
Yeah I still picked Lilac... Can't wait to try out the second too!
muito bom cara adorei o game mas puta q me pariu o boss final me fez tomar uns 3 continues acho q sou horrivel nesse jogo

CAT RIDING A FUCKIN MOTORCYCLE
Best Sonic Game Ever Made Before Sonic Mania
Jood Jem! I enjoyed it
If the Sonic games were allowed to grow up with their earliest fans, they would be like Freedom Planet.
Zones are thematically tied to the story and the player's progress. It embraces challenge. Enemies take more than one hit to defeat and must be defeated by means other than jumping on them. It has a coherent story, and superb voice acting and music to carry it.
Freedom Planet is exactly how I want Sonic games to be as an adult player.
The best inspiration 2d Sonic game, having a vibe and aesthetic

Game is Peak
friendship ended with classic sonic, now freedom planet is my new best friend
dragon deez nuts across your mouth
the game's good ig
For whatever reason, this game manages to do a 2d Sonic-like better than Sonic, outside of Sonic Mania and Generation, in my humble opinion.
The campy, weekend-morning cartoon voice acted story doesn't waste your time and manages to hold my no-attention-having-self's attention. The game controls very tightly and seldom accosts you with crappy, off-screen obstacles like other Sonic games/Sonic-like games.
Off-screen issues are still occasionally a problem and the arcade-style life system, while exceedingly generous, does still feel dated in a burgeoning landscape of platformers without hard resets for losing all of your lives.
All-in-all, this game rocks and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a visually appealing 2d platformer and can tolerate minor amounts of some potentially Newgrounds style cringe. To me, it came off much more endearing than cringy, but I can absolutely see some people not reactiing to it as well; watch a couple videos if you aren't sure before you buy.
The platforming, movement, and combat all feel really well-polished. It really took me back to the era of the old 2-D Sonic games. The story and characters might not be for everyone (I found it all pretty cute), but you owe it to yourself to at least try it for the gameplay.
I have a big mix of emotions when it comes to Freedom Planet.
- The style is very much reminiscent of the original sonic the hedgehog games but taking the general gameplay loop towards a combat instead of a pure platformer. Giving each character not only additional jump abilities (not necessarily like double jumps), a simple attack but also giving them signature special abilities and additional attacks unique attacks (Lilac's Rising Slash and Carol's Wild Claw).
- Enemies instead of being damaged by jumping on them must be damaged by your character's attacks and most enemies can only damage you by using their attacks on you as well, not to say enemies still can't damage you just by touching you though, instead of just losing your crystals when you take damage instead you have health that can only be replenished through collecting red leaves.
- Each environment is unique and full of life calling to familiar themes, all with their own obstacles and quirks along with a beautiful design to each level to boot.
- Certain character/enemy designs are wonderfully animated, they don't just use simple pixel art animation but rather animate with each part in mind and not enough games ever trying animating this way, like for example Robo-panther that Serpantine uses at the end of Fortune Night is really well done. Music & Sound design is really good and very fitting, my favourite track is when you're fighting a mini-boss.
- Voice Acting is strange for a game like Freedom Planet but a welcome addition, though each character's voice lines aren't consistent, Torque has WAY too much bass compared to say Lilac or Carol but that's a small nitpick.
Some complaints I have about Freedom Planet:
- I wish there was a better run down of the character's abilities
- Wish I could see more which I'm move fast or jumping
- Stuff including some enemy attacks (excluding bosses) don't happen off-screen
--- SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT ---
- I wish it was explained who Spade is and what happened to Prince Dail after Brevon was defeated.
- Brevon Armed Soldiers (The guys that get back up after they've been knocked down again.) are really annoying and unfair to fight when more than one gets involved.
- Some Bosses take the fun out of the game for me, especially Brevon Phase 2 because he doesn't have a pattern and can use abilities that make it impossible to hit his head.
Masterpiece
I really loved this game! Though I have a ton of experience with classic Sonic games, and the comparisons to them are quite abundant if you look around on the internet (I am not helping), Freedom Planet is actually quite sufficiently different. It almost feels like a mix of Sonic and Mega Man gameplay, which is probably why I am quite a bit worse at FP, because I suck at Mega Man lol. However, the challenge is welcome, and I look forward to many more hours spent trying to improve my skills at FP :3
Putting the gameplay aside, I also loved the story a lot. This is a weird reference for me to make, but as a fan of the Wings of Fire books, I kind of live and die for this game's brand of earnest, heart-on-your-sleeve, even slightly cheesy at times, storytelling. The characters have really fun personalities and I genuinely enjoyed the emotional beats the plot took.
I don't have much to say about the music because I haven't really spent the time to relisten to the soundtrack alone, but I'm fairly confident in saying that what I have heard is really really good! I also really love the art direction of this game, though I can't really point to specifics because I'm not very used to critiquing that sort of thing. All I'll say is that the sprites are super cute!
So yeah this game fun pls buy
This game is like rediscovering a childhood I never had!
Freedom Planet is a great game that uses the best elements of classic platformers and turns them into an exciting adventure with unique characters and a vibrant world. The gameplay is dynamic, the levels are worked out with attention to detail, and the stylish pixel graphics and energetic soundtrack give the game a special atmosphere.
However, it is worth noting that the bosses in the game can be a real challenge. Their attacks sometimes seem too complicated and require quick reactions and precise actions. Overall, Freedom Planet is a great game for fans of the genre, but be prepared for the fact that it can seriously challenge your skills!
So much charm & fun. The game is just awesome!
Fairly fun game. A bit jank, and outdated fer today's standards, but it's worth a try.
Love it.
Clearly inspired by classic Sonic.
Fun game that I got during sale (under £4) that takes up less than half a gigabyte on my HDD.
Some have complained about the voice lines. They can be hit and miss, but overall I like the the vocal performance.
I think the graphical demand from the game is so low you could play it on a potato.
If you like classic games and see it for more than 50% off, I say get it.
Sonic But Dragon girl
I'm not a huge fan of sonic games. I wasn't into the story nor the series. The sonic franchise also played in ways I didn't really enjoy.
However this plays precisely how I like it. I decided to give it a try since it has cats in it, and I'm a little mad at myself that I didn't play this sooner.
The controls take a little getting used to but they're predictable and smooth. Unlike some sonic games I've played, I feel like I have full control over my character.
I can't speak for sonic fans, but if you're like me and you liked the idea of the sonic franchise, but couldn't get into it because of how it played, then I highly recommend you try this one out.
If you come looking for a fun experience that includes:
-Voice Acting
-Great Soundtrack
-Good character design and character building
-Beautiful level designs and great art
Then you've stumbled into the correct game store page, as Freedom Planet gives you all of that for quite a small price... Usually 14 bucks or so, game gets discounted quite frequently despite the quality of this game being on par to that of Sonic Mania (despite coming out several years prior to Mania, and funnily enough a better game than most ACTUAL mainline Sonic games we have now.) Maybe even better... Just my opinion though. I will eventually add more to this review as this game genuinely deserves every positive written review it gets. Coming along way aswell, from when it was just a sonic fan-game to its own identity.
I got killed by a boss' death animation
anyways fun game overall 👍
quality gaming. probably one of the top soundtracks of all time
"I swear, if the heroine yells 'Cyclon' one more time, I'm going to refund this game."
Spoiler: She did.
5 years after finishing Freedom Planet... and in the middle of the 10th anniversary of the first Freedom Planet that was released...
I don't regret buying it on sale at all, even with progress transferred here, saves, records and achievements... but there is still a lot to enjoy from this wonderful game!!!
Let's summarize... Freedom Planet 1 is magical, absolutely the successor to Sonic in many ways
the soundtrack is UNFORGETTABLE, the 3 protagonists Sash Lilac, Carol Tea and Milla Basset are incredible and legends, the story is great, all the characters are interesting, the gameplay of FP1 is great
Not to mention the Mahjong mode that is satisfying!
The atmosphere of the game is ABSOLUTE CINEMA!!!
9.5/10
Give Freedom Planet a chance!!!
me like music!
