Merry, Merry king of the woods was he.
Deep in his heart lived spirits, three.
Dark secrets had this family."
In Where is my Heart? you play the story of a family of forest spirits. Their world gets broken up into fragments which you have to piece back together in your mind. Each of the three characters can transform into a magical creature along the way. The Rainbow Spirit allows you to rotate the world around and jump across space; the Bat King can see hidden platforms which only exist for him; the Antler Ancestor can jump on the stars. Help the three spirits find their home tree again!

Fun strategy game, with cute animations and fun world layouts
Pastel Yet Painful
I don't typically find those two things in the same space yet I find it here. The aesthetic is so sweet it could give you cavities and the concept seems wonderful with the trailer on the store page bringing it all together to paint a picture of what to expect. First off let me just say that the bits that weren't incredibly obvious or easy were VERY trial and error dependent. This essentially boils down to the fact that it'll take patience and lacks actual challenge. Saying this game is challenging would be like saying a race is challenging just because they blindfold you for 1/4th or more of it. If you're diligent you can mostly figure out which screen connects to one another, however there's still plenty that you'll only discover through a leap of faith. Which is something that produces artificial difficulty if not mild frustration. It gives you the controls bit by bit and doesn't explain them leaving you to more trial and error as well.
Pros:
+Cute aesthetic
+Promising concept
+It's sweet how the orange character cries when one of the others dies
Cons:
-Trial and error heavy
-lacks explanation and story which the trailer honestly is a little misleading in that
-Requires patience and lacks real challenge which I believe every puzzle game should provide
-can be done thoughtlessly
-failed to hold my attention
I forgot how to play this game, please tell me how to play it
Indie platformer with gorgeous pixel graphics and mind-boggling puzzles,
Simple little indie platformer with great art and atmosphere.
I haven't played the Steam version but I bought it on here because I loved it so much on PSP. Gives me a little happy shiver to play.
I absolutely LOOOOOVE this game. It reminds me of Fez!! I love the pixelation, the characters, the colours, the graphics. It all appeals to me. It's a nice little puzzle game! Total recommend. 10/10
A really fantastic, quick, little game. I have never played anything like it and I loved how much it made me think to solve the puzzles. These kind of puzzles that play with what you can and can't see can feel just impossible sometimes, but there's a really great balance here. Whenever I found myself stumped it never lasted more than a minute or two, and then the layout of the puzzle becomes clear and you get that great feeling where you can see every step to the end after trying to figure it out for a while. It does become significantly more difficult about halfway through but I got used to it. And, I was surprised by how quickly I got used to rearranging the broken map in my head. If spatial reasoning isn't your strong point though, this will probably be quite difficult.
The art is adorable. The sound design and music are great and create a very relaxed atmosphere that doesn't distract you from the puzzle but rather draws you in.
My main complaint would be that the parts where you use the rainbow spirit to flip the screen around can feel a little tedious and try-fail try-fail sometimes. But, that feeling never lasted long and I pretty much always ended those levels feeling very satisfied.
Overall, cute, cheap game that is well worth your time. Highly recommended.
It's a proper keyboard-only port of a PlayStation mini (PSP, PS3, Vita game). Although it's been made available in various bundles, I've never seen its price drop on Steam proper for those that are holding out for a sale.
The only actual goal in a given level is figuring out how to get from start to finish, and anything else is entirely optional. There are no enemies, there is no time limit, and you have infinite lives. You can collect hearts if you want to, which you will lose each time you fail. The level-select screen lists the highest number you've collected in a single run, which is a goal you can work toward if you want to. Although there is one achievement tied to collecting these hearts, there is a single level where this can be earned easily.
The game features 26 levels in the main game plus 4 "bonus" levels. Each level can be solved in a matter of minutes, giving at least an hour of playtime. Some levels may of course take longer to figure out, and collecting the hearts without dying can multiply your playtime substantially, I thought the fragmented screen mechanic was used well enough to hold my interest, although there were at least some bits pertaining to collision that were frustrating.
The developers (which took 3 years to port to PC/Mac) promised a Linux version back in 2014 which I think is as likely as this game going on sale, so if you're on a non-Linux box it may be worth checking out if you're looking for a quiet, low-stress platformer with an interesting twist.
There are serious issues with controls, such as character sliding and falling for no apparent reason on some very tiny platforms.
The required pixel and nanosecond accurate action is only randomly achieved for some further down the line puzzles, which makes the game unenjoyable in these instances.
Level design in some areas is too repetitive,
The paritiotioned platformer experience is not unique or meaningful enough for some levels.
Sometimes it becomes just an headache when this feature is overused.
If these would were fixed it would have been much more enjoyable experience.
"I turned my heart into a monster."
Even though your family consist of monsters. They have thoughts, fears and weaknesses just like you.
Very beautiful game, clever in the design and mechanics.
There are a few sections which are beyond the difficulty of normal players (to get all hearts). Not much of a spoiler, getting all the hearts for each level does not unlock a special ending, only perhaps a level or two.
There is one or two situations where due to a mechanic your characters can get stuck in the wall and die, because they're moving randomly beforehand, which prevents you from getting all the hearts unless you redo the level.
Overall I'd look forward if the developers made other platformers with odd mechanics.
If you like to complete your games at 100%, this game is not for you.
In each level you have to collect a certain amount of hearts, using 3 characters, but, due to how the game is designed, sometimes you'll end up dying because of something you did not see. If that happens, you lose a heart and respawn, and that, if you are compulsive as I am, means you must restart the level (because you'll only get 9 hearts out of 10, for example). But the game does not have a level restart button, so you have to go out to the menu and choose again the same level. And to make things worse, when you start a level you have to wait for the 3 characters to come in, and they sure take their time to do so.
In conclusion, if you find yourself wanting to restart a level over and over, the game will annoy you really quickly.
I'll be honest, I'm sometimes a sucker for cute things. On sale Where is my Heart? seemed like a fantastic purchase. It has a very pleasant and charming atmosphere with an adorable cast of characters. Unfortunately, after nearly an hour the game exhausts all of its charm and is left witha very simple gameplay mechanic that, when used in increasingly difficult puzzles with no new mechanics, makes the game increasingly bland and frustrating.
However, it's adorable atmosphere and charm made the game worthwhile to me. I didn't enjoy it after some time but if you like cute things and simple puzzle games then your mileage may very
One of the cutest games I ever played, cool ideas and lovely art.
please set first menu
i won't new game, but first menu is
Cute, beautiful game. I'm surprised by the lack of controller support.
I'm still making my way through this. I guess the big question on whether it's a good buy or not would be how long it is - just getting into it, there are certainly times that it feels like it ought to be one of those free flash games. But the deeper I get into this, the more I love it. I don't know quite what it is about the mechanics that appeal to me so much more; there's a spark of genius in the it, certainly, but i think it's the execution more than the mechanics or gameplay that's making me enjoy it so much.
The sounds are also just perfect. I think I could just sit and listen to someone playing this. (I also wish I had an hour long version of the promo video, listening to the sounds and the woman talking there is the most relaxing thing ever)
Perhaps I'll have more to say as I get through this, but it's lovely and cute, but most of all fun. It's the first puzzle game in a while that I've tackled where grinding on the same puzzle to get a perfect score is a thing I want to do, not a chore. Granted, I've only just scratched the surface so far; so this has only happened once or twice.
The fact that I'm enamored enough of this game to want to write something positive an hour in says something good, I think.
While I'm sure this was intended as an amiable and relaxing puzzle-platformer, the gameplay mechanics have induced nothing in me but frustration. Reviewers for platform games decades ago would lament 'leaps of faith', where the player jumps to uncertain death in the hope that there is a game progressing platform.
Inconceivably, Where Is My Heart? is seemingly built around this old and frustrating concept. The juxtaposition of a gentle art direction and the aggrevating problem solving equals a game I would recommend to no-one.
It's a nice brain puzzler I can only do 3-5 levels at a time before i need to rest my eyes/brain
