Kind of feels like Grand Theft Auto but with a zombie mod. A simple. fun, open world, zombie game.

-Novel and fun take on zombie setting.
-Minimal to no technical issues, runs smooth despite using the CRYENGINE.
-Decent balance of combat/exploration/survival mechanics.
-Party system is fun and decently fleshed out.

I would recommend this game on sale at 60% or greater.

The game offers a fairly expansive sandbox world but unfortunately there is very little of value to do in that world.

The basic story is bland and ends very quickly.

You will try to go explore and do things that interest you, only to be drowned in endless repetitive [and frankly stupid] side quests. The most common is that some survivor in your camp is upset and needs to be taken out to beat zombies to death, and have a "talking to" and this boosts morale temporarily.

As soon as you go off to solve one side quest, a half-dozen more, repetitive side quests always pop up. You may go to retrieve a watch from the starting location for one of the characters, only to have the main base attacked by yet another group of roving hordes of zombies.

Nothing you ever do in the game is of any consequence of significance in advancing any meaningful or worthwhile story.

It isn't a bad game, but it is a mediocre game that simply falls way flat in terms of the potential it had and what it could have realized. Is it a C- game.

Clunky Classic

It's just too old, too janky. It crashes, the day/night system where you can't pass time or rest, your companions just randomly leave and go back to base where you then can't get them to go with you again, etc. Too many problems, but then also to release an update as a paid new version is infuriating. I liked the game enough that I'd have considered SoD2 or SoD3, but probably not with this kind of shady dev BS.

Solid zombie experience but falls flat on the technical side. I do give it some leniency since it's an Indie title however the shooting mechanics are way too stiff and it does get repetitive fairly quickly. Still an interesting title for the time.

Awesome game, reminds me of the first few seasons of walking dead.

I had a lot of fun with this one, I bought it twice (from Microsoft then on steam).

Just play the Year One edition.

State of Decay is one of, if not the best zombie game out.
