The All New Story
To reboot the narrative, Toxic Games brought in industry veteran Rob Yescombe, writer on franchises including CRYSIS, ALIEN: ISOLATION, STAR WARS and PS4’s upcoming RIME; winner of Best Thriller Screenplay at the Creative World Awards, and the screenwriting Award of Excellence at the Canada International Film Festival.
“The Director’s Cut is a single-location thriller” says Yescombe, “It’s about figuring out what the Qube is, and why you’re inside it. You’re told you are an astronaut inside some kind of alien structure hurtling towards Earth, but it’s also about something deeper than that.”
Under the surface, there is a subtext about games themselves – “We are conditioned to expect death and doom. We’re resigned to it. At its heart, this story is about that state of mind and how it effects the way we view our experiences, in games and in life. The Director’s Cut will feel either heroic or unnerving, depending on your own personal trust issues.”

Playing this game years after it came out was a solid 6/10 experience. It's really not that fun or challenging, and I could race through all the puzzles in about 2.5 hours. My attitude was just to speed run it, since there really isn't much else going for it. The story keeps you curious as it progresses, but it's kinda superfluous, because you're 99% playing this for puzzle solving and 1% for the story.
I can only recommend this if you're a fan of 3D geometry puzzle solving games... Very niche market that one, but this game is here if that fits what you're looking for. Get it 90% off and it's worth it.
I think this might be one of my all-time favorite puzzle games! The minimalist design might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I personally found it charming :). The puzzles are all unique, with some of em offering challenges that’ll have you confused and frustrated for quite a bit. Combine that with some lovely sound design & an immersive soundtrack and it’s easy to lose yourself in the game for a good few hours.
That said, the game’s biggest flaw imo is the recently added storyline. The whole narrative about saving humanity feels tacked on and just unnecessary. There’s no twists, no humor, no unique interactions, nothing to really hook you into the story, just leaving it as a lackluster addition that doesn't bring anything cool but drags the experience down a bit. Still, the voice actors have done a fantastic job, especially the one who voiced Commander Nowak !!
Anyway, if you enjoy some nice puzzles and a slightly eerie atmosphere, this game is definitely worth your time :)
Solid short puzzle game with a decent story and some challenging levels later in the run. If I can beat it, they can't be THAT hard.
This game does feel very dated with no fov slider, no fps options other than vsync etc.
You might be better off paying a few bucks extra for the 10 year edition or whatever, but for what it is, this Director's Cut is totally playable and fun
Inspired by Portal but is its own thing. Short, makes little sense, but a pleasant experience and I wanted it to last a bit longer which is always a good sign. Don't pay too much for it, it is short.
Good game with decent puzzles!!
This game is bad.
It's not really a puzzle game, but a platformer in disguise, with a few puzzles added onto the end. The actual puzzles are not fun.
This game doesn't just take inspiration from Portal, it mimics Portal.
i see colors, I play
The puzzles have a decent difficulty, yet ,you need to figure out the actual outcome, is not always the most obvious answer.
Short but entertaining, worth on sale, works good on the deck
This game was fun for the first three sectors. then I ran into a puzzle that was all about timing. I can't stand puzzles that you have to keep trying over and over again until you get your timing just right. Figuring out how is fun. Spending a lot of time trying to execute that solution is not. I will leave it here regardless of how interesting the story was.
its a fun game but not very difficult and can be beaten in just a couple hours. if you can get it cheap enough, it might be worth it to you to play.
I'm not going to finish this game.
