Just one of those games that utilised many devices that became a trend for other games. One of those visceral & audiophile masterpieces that make you carry the experience with you after enjoying it. Has to be experienced & comprehended to be believed. Thank you kindly for your contributions to life.
The game crashes after the Made In Norway intro screen on many modern Intel CPUs. It's an especially embarrassing place to crash for the country of Norway because it suggests that things made in Norway are unreliable. The devs promised to fix the issue but haven't done anything about it. There is a workaround that involves changing environment variables. The game is actually really good but I don't want to reward lazy developers with a positive review if they are knowingly selling a broken product.
The game has an amazing story but it depends a lot on having played the previous 2 games. It's mostly an interactive movie but there are some simple puzzles to solve in places but nothing challenging. Your choices make a big impact on the events later in the game which I feel makes the game replayable. There are some annoying parts and the ending drags on for ages but It's a good ending and worth the time. It's very good game overall despite the technical issues.
The first game was one of my favorite childhood games. The second one was pretty nice as well. But this has so much left wing political messaging and cringe worthy characters that it honestly just put me off. It's like the game took a complete 180. Later on I realized that the first two games were made by Funcom while this one was made by the studio responsible for Dustborn so now it all makes sense.
It's fun and quick
I am a huge fan of the first two titles, and they will forever remain among my absolute favorite games. But this was a disappointment.
I followed the development process and the books as they were released but gave up after the fourth one due to that disappointment. Now, years later, I have decided to give it another ago and finally find out how it all ends.
And what do you know, now it's even more of a disappointment.
Spoilers ahead.
I definitely enjoyed some parts of the game. I loved seeing April. I loved the visuals. I loved walking around Marcuria and Europolis.
But the writing… is subpar, to put it mildly. And somehow, it gets worse and worse with each book. By the end of the game, it was pretty clear that the devs did not know how to finish the storylines and tie the plot together, so they just created Saga to shove her in the right place and resolve everything. And on top of that, made Kian adopt her (which was beyond stupid and cringe-inducing) because they had no idea what to do with Lady Alvane and they definitely didn't want it to be April as fans speculated for years because Kian's now apparently gay.
I hated the modern-day politics shoved into 22th century and a fantasy world. I hated that lazy "hey do you know fascism is bad" writing, including the ginger Hitler-like, a replica of concentration camps, and racial hate speeches - what on earth was all that. Who do they think the audience of TLJ has been? Teenagers?
I also hated the multiverse angle, and I really hated the retconning of previous games. I hated how they changed Kian's character, because I loved him in Dremfall:TLJ and I loved his interactions with April. He had great potential as a character. But alas, in this game, I felt either nothing or annoyance.
If there ever will be TLJ:Home, I'm not expecting much from it. However, I will continue to enjoy the first two games with my own headcanons.
One of the oldest sagas i've played. It's a dream worth living.
Great story, great characters and resolution help make up for somewhat lackluster gameplay. I only wish they could have fleshed out more of the world, allowed us to travel to even more exotic locations...
one of my favorite series! lovely world to explore and nice story
<3 Zoe
Poor writting
A good follow up that wraps up most of the questions raised in earlier episodes. It also has a lot of the mystery of Dreamfall. Unfortunately, in order to answer your questions, they have to remove some of the mystery. It is at its best when it is not explaining things, but rather furthering the mystery and the characters.
Really, though, it makes me yearn for a remake of "The Longest Journey".
Great end to the series.
Absolutely recommend this game. It's a gem of a game, and a shame it's not as universally known as many others. I loved Detroit: Become & Beyond: Two Souls, and was looking for something similar story wise to play, and this game definitely delivered. It's most similar to Beyond: Two Souls I'd say.
I was quite impressed. This is on my list of games that actually deserves a replay.
Played entirely on Steam Deck with an XBone controller hooked up to a dock. Didn't have any issues playing it. I'm not even sure I remember where I needed to use the on-screen keyboard, but it's not something necessary for a majority of the game. So, take of that what you will.
Only issues I had were a scripted character getting frozen in a spot once out of all the time I played, a well known issue with something not triggering in an Interlude scene with Saga where I needed to restart just once, and the choices connectivity where it tells you the percentages of what players chose in the past just not showing up when there weren't internet issues.
The game itself is an emotional and wild ride of a masterpiece. I know the development had shortcomings with funding and time crunches, but this turned out to be a really well thought out game.
I love the stories of Kian, Zoe, and Saga all intertwining and playing out. Some of my favorite moments were in the world of Arcadia, but the plot within Stark really got me thinking especially in the political climate we are living in right now.
Though said many times over, the choices you make do have impact on the events happening throughout the minor plot of the game, but the major plot isn't changed by decisions you make. Something I don't mind by any means, but it feels inconsequential to pick one choice over another outside of fancying certain characters or trying to get the achievements.
The humor and the lore really carry this diamond in the rough. I don't think this game is by any means a challenging puzzle game, but it's an incredible "choose your story" movie.
Despite this games shortcomings, I would list it among my top 10 most enjoyed story games. If they ever do another part to the Dreamfall/Longest Journey IP, then I'd be gobbling it up in a heartbeat.
Check this one out, and don't miss out on it!
VERY enjoyable game. I played it years ago, but it's good enough that I would happily play it again after my current backlog is cleared. I found it very easy to get into the story.
First, I must mention that I did it with a little help of a guide found here on steam. That's why it took only 15 hours to complete, I guess it would have been much longer without.
Now that is settled, I have to say that I really enjoyed the game. I've played the Longest Journey when it came out back then, I must confess I do not remember it well but still have the feeling of a good game. So I've decided to give the sequel a try.
After Dreamfall, that was a bit clumsy, I found Dreamfall Chapters really well done in every aspect.
Technically, I played this at the end of 2024 and the game is still very enjoyable, graphics are really good. Gameplay is fluid and the point and click feels natural. Voices are well sync and well played. Thumbs up to the voice actors.
Story wise, it's really great. All characters have a strong background, the story is captivating, very well tied (no flaws as far as I can tell) and they use a lot of cut scenes to explain everything. The choices are impacting too (mention to the choice that may ends the game almost at the beginning of it ^^). In short, it's clever, it's emotional, it's brilliant, with good writing and lot of humor.
After this, I feel the whole story is complete, even though I would love another game. Can only recommend it.
Love it ♥
One of my favourite games after being recommended it. Old but still hits the same ;)
Its great to replay making different choices to see how it changes the outcomes. Also, I liked the story line.
One of the best games I've ever played. Its been an epic journey completing the third entry in this series. Warning before hand even though it gives you a recap you will still need to play the last two games just to understand some things. Red Thread Games has a knack for writing some of the most likable, unique and multi dimensional characters out of any medium I've experienced. There's nothing quite like the world building in this universe. If your a fan of great stories and don't mind gameplay taking a back seat play this.
This game is ideal for when you want to shut off from the outside world and invest in a fictional one.
