The roads are treacherous with obstacles around every corner. Instead of doing laps on a loop, survive to the end in the quickest time. Your car has abilities that not only allow you to drive on the track, but upside down and on buildings and walls! You can also fly to discover new shortcuts and paths. Take on the roads alone, or in multiplayer with your friends!
The game is a spiritual successor to the multi-award winning Nitronic Rush, created by ourselves and 5 others at DigiPen Institute of Technology. It was widely praised for its innovative mechanics, visual style, audio design, and atmosphere.

Fun and well-crafted driving game with fun flying and stunt mechanics which push you to survive in complex levels with stunts and traps.
Played it since release and now on deck it's even better than i remember! Hidden gem of racing games. And my personal classic
Yeah I played it for a little bit, it's good!
Distance is a "Time Attack" racing game. While you can join multiplayer lobbies and race against others, the primary focus is achieving faster times on the Global leaderboards (or your friends list, if you have friends).
The game is centered around a Neo-Dystopian futuristic cyber city aesthetic, with many of the Campaign levels taking on a dark/horror aesthetic. The soundtrack is a variety of EDM tracks, from heavy and gritty, to bouncy and whimsical.
There are no microtransactions and no season pass. You unlock new cars (which you can color to your liking), by completing in-game achievements. When you buy the game, you get the whole game.
What makes Distance unique is the sheer freedom of movement. You're not bound to the road, or the ground for that matter. You have jet thrusters, wings, jumping, and wall magnetism. You can explore (almost) every inch of (almost) every map. A large appeal to the gameplay is going off-course, and finding shortcuts, skip routes, and hidden teleporters to achieve better times on the leaderboards. By virtue of this, there are many secrets to find in many levels.
The real meat and potatoes of Distance exists through the custom level editor. It's one of the most robust editors I've ever seen for any video game. There are thousands of player-made custom maps to play, and still many more being created. The editor is so powerful and diverse, people have made custom cutscenes for their tracks, rpg adventures, jet-ski levels, puzzle maps, whack-a-mole, fishing, roleplay playgrounds, a 30 day (real time) jail cell, and every variety of racing track you can imagine.
The community, as it stands now, is a small, but dedicated group of (mostly) lovely individuals that reside on the games official Discord server. No matter how new or inexperienced you are with Distance, they are happy to invite you in and be a part of the fun. They have so much to offer in terms of friendliness and technical knowledge. Distance quickly became one of my favorite games, but the warm and inviting community cemented it as the game I come back to every single day.
There are two annual community events, centered around Halloween and Christmas. But if you are interested, and dedicated enough, you can host an event for any season. I would love to see more community investment.
The game, unfortunately, only has one active developer. Their presence is sparse (I've never seen a developer active since I've started playing). But according to others, they are present during the Christmas event. And they did release the 1.5 update just one week before I found the game. So they are active, but not present.
Overall, Distance is a fantastic hidden gem. You won't regret buying this game. I bought a second copy just to support the developers. It runs well on lower end machines. It's better experienced with a controller (in my opinion). And the official Discord server is the place to be, so go join it!
This is one of the outstanding games that I have ever played! Surely it becomes harder on the later parts of the Campaigns, but you can surely beat them if you try hard enough!
Anyway, I really have no words about this game, so you should definitely play it for yourself.
Best Hot Wheels Simulator Ever!
Doesnt support splitscreen on steamdeck with 2 or more controllers. Fun set of storymode missions bur i bought this game upon the expectation of the former having working and matching input settings for all players.
Back when I was 12, I used to get up at 4 just to play this game quietly on my crusty ass macbook air, now I'm in uni, time flies, I miss it.
great game for hotwheels/acceleracers fans
best played with the song "the distance" by cake on repeat
Could not get this to work with my HP Reverb G2. It kept going left, no matter what I did to the controllers. Support did not.
Looks amazing in menu, but runs horribly in campaign.
I'm unsure as to why my system is having such an issue playing this game, but it's not designed for Xbox controllers and from the looks of it you'd have to manually configure each and every single control from scratch to not have to deal with the gas pedal being tied to the camera controls if you want to try "Gamepad Default".
I'm certain I'm missing something here, but even with this game set to high priority it is closer to that of a slide show than anything else.
I've tried lowering the resolution, lowering the graphics, closing all background tasks, running it as an administrator, literally everything I could think of. Even running a full system scan for corrupted system files through CMD. Nothing helped.
My specs exceed the minimum and recommended requirements. I just can't figure out why it runs as if "Slide Show" is the only option.
The system specs in question:
- i5-12600k
- 32gbs RAM
- RTX 3060 12GB
It's unfortunate that I don't currently own any racing sim stuff to give it another shot, but after fiddling around with settings repeatedly, I'm just going to refund this game. It looks and sounds amazing, but if I can't run it, I guess I'll have to refund it.
Car parkour
Carkour.
This game is absolutely crazy and I love it. And it's especially mesmerizing if played on (ultra)widescreen. Go get it now
Strap in you babies this is a video game where they not only allow but expect you to hold down the boost button continuously, where your car can jump and has wings but once you become a big boy you learn you don't even need the wings because your car is so bristling with rocket thrusters that you can glide by holding down boost and flipping upside-down.
There is a plot. Three plots. There is no plot. There is only the music and the speed and the rocket spaceship laser beams and the music and the music and a whole lot of really cool sick flips you can do. There is no skill ceiling. You can go off-road onto the side of any visible skyscraper, and explore anywhere you want.
I loved the original Nitronic Rush, and I love this. Good video game. Makes me feel like a gamer.
one of the best games
Simply don't like the game. I found myself more annoyed than anything. The music is cool and the game has a style to it, I can see why others like it. If you're not looking for a racing game but more something like a jump'n'run (or rather jump'n'drive) and you like the look, get it. But I can't recommend it as a racing game.
vc sente a velocidade da luz de vez em quando
I liked the music and atmosphere in Distance, but I got bored while playing. There wasn’t enough action, and the moves felt repetitive.
-FAST CAR
-NEON LIGHTS
-BANGIN MUSIC
10/10
I really liked the concept for this game driving very cool visual graphics. I feel like the music track could have been better and there should have been less jumping. Maybe if the vehicles were actually partially inclined to fly it would play like a supped up F-zero, mad fun right? But flipping and flopping cars through the air trying to make them fly onto the next track was less fun and dizzying
Car: *gets cut in half by laser*
also car: "Tis but a scratch!"
Forza with Rocket League flight controls inside Acceleracers maps.
not gonna lie this game is a BLAST
its not a wide variety of game modes and maps, you can make your own or use an auto generator as well
community content is crazy and you can race against ghosts
the campaign is great, not too much story you have to do a lot of guess work its nothing complex but man this game slaps.
works great on deck and good to play in short bursts if you have a busy schedule like myself
worth its full price imo
Had the urge to come back to my favorite arcade racer of all time, and found it had *another update!* It has a pumping synth soundtrack, a remarkable amount of story and incredible atmospheric storytelling. Dynamic vehicle damage lets your car be sliced and diced and keep functioning, if you can limp it to a checkpoint. The car has several quality of life features I wish every arcade/track racer had, such as the gravity indicator that makes DOWN obvious. The jump, fly, and directional boosters give an incredible variety of cool tricks you can do. It's a crime it's as unknown a game as it is.
