Very fun, very classic feeling FPS. I had a really good time with it

It's like playing Doom as Deadpool in a wild Japanese fever dream.
Great story, definitely worth it.

Shadow Warrior is an average FPS but it's very outdated and over rated in my opinion. It maybe was good at the time of release but in 2025 it's nothing I would recommend.

Negative aspects: the graphics is outdated, the soundtrack is average. The story is really convoluted and not explained well. It starts like this - you are a professional assassin working for an industry magnate, and you are sent to purchase an ancient katana from a well known collector. That collector doesn't want to sell and he has a private army so the first chapter is about killing his henchman etc...etc...
But then suddenly what could be a decent thriller becomes something else when demons spawn out of nowhere and the story takes a paranormal turn like in the movie From Dusk Till Dawn. I don't mind the supernatural theme at all but the thing is, it wasn't explained properly. It's about some ancient demon lords fighting each other but I didn't understand how the demon hordes spawned into planet Earth and also I didn't catch much of anything else. I couldn't relate to those supernatural characters.
I really didn't like the lack of a mini map. There are small, medium and large maps. And in some of them there is a lot of backtracking and with the lack of a mini map it was tedious to find the right way. It's funny how you are encouraged to explore because you can find money and other stuff if you go off the beaten path, but at the same time they don't give you a map so often I would spend time running back and forth trying to find the right way.
The game is repetitive and there isn't much of a monster variety. There is an upgrade system of weapons, skills and powers/spells. The powers/spells are completely useless. The weapons and skills upgrade system is ok but money is often very hidden. In the statistics after each chapter it would say I found only 50% or so of the total money and secrets, and I would wonder where the heck it was hidden, because I usually like to explore all.
Some boss fights are boring and tedious.
Good aspects: the voice acting of the main character. Combat against basic enemies is ok, it reminds of Doom. You have a nice selection of weapons. It has 13 chapters. On normal you can complete the game without many problems.

Still a very good game.
The melee and gunplay is so fun but switching weapons is kinda sluggish.
Also that fight on 16th Chapter where the dev throws all demons at you is outright unfair. It was even harder than any of the bosses in the game.

Shadow Warrior is pretty awesome, I think I finished that game last year or something, it was PC exclusive, so it's a first-person shooter that was developed without the limitations of a dual-stick gamepad, which makes for some very hectic but extremely rewarding moments. You need a modern rig though.

This is very good game that aged well and worth the price. but I don't like how everybody is in a demon costume and keeps scaring me that's why I am cutting them in half with my katana. It's not my fault I'm a little jumpy and cut the heads of 5 guys off. But its no big deal we all know heads grow back.

Chinese DOOM

Shadow Warrior is highly 90’s in a very good way. Pace is fast, health kits are in, guns are powerful, action is great, puns are bad and there is lot of flying blood and boy parts. A myriad of beautiful environments, crazy but balanced and innovative combat, and a smoother difficulty curve prove that the Polish studio has graphical, level and gameplay design talent to spare.

This game can be a lot of fun, however, in my subjective opinion it gets only a 7/10 rating. Not because it's bad in some of its aspects, but because it's rarely better than just "good". Obviously, this is what I think. Your personal opinion may differ significantly depending on how much you like/dislike certain mechanics/elements/designs in the game.

It's one of the best reboots of a quite obscure title, to many. I wish Flying with Hog could make the same reboots for other series like Blood, Powerslave, Sin, or Duke Nukem (but that's only wishful thinking). Up to the second part. Thank you for the game.

Lo Wang's got the touch, he's got the power!

Honestly, this is the Best of the reboot right next to the OG Classic.
I always think the series has no Idea what its trying to be, but this Shadow Warrior 2013 nailed what the Classic did and somehow failed to deliver the same thing with its sequels.

Just because itsa Dumb Fun doesn't mean it has to be Dumber, and this game knows it. Unfunny Jokes aside, there's something natural about majority of them. The Story might be stupid but the later part really make me actually Care. This is the game that knows its Dumb but also knows well when it should be serious. And the Ending is just the Cream in the crop. The Linear map design is simply works for this game and far more Replayable than the Randomly Generated Shadow Warrior 2, giving the players a good will to revisit and explore to get some neat secrets it hides.
The only bad things about this is the Ledge. Jumping or sprinting on the small ledge Damage you and instantly kills you(lmao) I don't know what the heck were they thinking.
Overall : Solid Boomer Shooter Game, FAR BETTER THAN Shadow Warrior 2 and 3.
Its a Shame the Devs never wish to give a proper continuation from this game with the same style or story telling, instead they make Lo Wang Dumber, turning the game into Looter Shooter or even Doom Eternal cheap copy.

SHADOW WARRIOR 2013 is one of a Kind, its Legendary right next to the OG Classic.

During a time of military-brown First-Person-Shooters, this game reminded me that FPS's can be incredible. Not long after this and Shadow Warrior 2, Doom 2016 dropped to further prove that point.

Honestly did not think I would like this game, thought it was just some fps joke but boy was I wrong. Now the 2nd one is the best, but this one is not far off and I think has a better story and darker theme. I did not like the controls as much which they fixed in the second one, but still its great.

I was looking for a game in japanese culture.
+ Beautiful Japanese Environment.
+ Sword and Guns -> I thought you can only use sword to kill demons but we have guns too.
+ Upgrade -> You can upgrade your body , mind and your weapon along the journey.
+ Humor Main Character to lit up the atmosphere in game.
+ Good Storyline.
+ Enemies design.
+ You could hide your HUD to go "Photo mode".
+ You could cut enemies limbs.

- Highlight Interact -> Sometime you missed the interact object cause its too small.
- Force Close when using Shuriken while fighting Boss Fight.

Recommended.

This game is a slow burn. Combat is balanced around having unlocked a lot of skills and weapon upgrades. This means that until you do, the combat is rather boring other than the cool sword damage. Once you unlock a fair amount of weapons and skills, the combat becomes way more engaging, having to juggle weapon swaps with your magic powers constantly.

In terms of fan service, there is little relation to the old Build Engine game. Some Easter eggs but very little to join the two.

Difficulty wise, I felt the game to be difficult in parts but fair.

Graphically it looks good although the environments offer little in terms of interaction.

I enjoyed my time with it. The last few levels felt a bit long in the tooth, primarily because they felt like they were there to close off the plot and not to be compelling and fun levels to play.

Overall, a fun game for FPS fans.

This is not the best game in the world, but if you wait for sale then you'll get the most Wang for your buck. A silly game to play when you want to switch your brain off. Just good fun.

Got to the third act and I lost 20 minutes of progress in a frustrating area to a fake ass fall damage death because both the checkpoints and the movement are jank. Was having a lot of fun, too. The shooting's alright, the upgrades are cool, and the story and lore are mildly intriguing. Unfortunately, I'm out.

Shadow Warrior

A strong re-imaging of a classic FPS / Boomer Shooter.

3D realms really knows how to make great games and characters, I love Duke Nukem though all of this has slipped in modern times.

The 2013 Shadow Warrior is Fast, well balanced, arena clearing style FPS with satisfying visuals and weapon feed back.

I will say though I felt weapon options are lacking, the pistol is pretty useless till it's upgraded, Shotgun comes far to late in the game, the SMG is the only really effective weapon in my opinion. The ammo for all weapons can be pretty scare but you can always just buy more.. that makes difficulty kinda easy honestly.

Overall, Sound, Visuals and story are all strong here. I would recommend picking this up on sale!

Doom with Katana... Good stuff, but definitely not for everyone.

Things to keep in mind:
* Dated humour
* Dashing on a decline may kill you
* Maybe play one difficulty lower than you are used to starting off

Cons:

* No in-game map to track your routes, etc. making back-tracking painful at times where you're not sure where to go, etc.
* Kind of a weird story that I struggled to get much into and is tough at times to track.
* Sadly realized after passing the 2-hour point that Devolver Digital (publisher) is part of Embracer Group - a woke, DEI / ESG company. Also noticed that Flying Wild Hog (developer) is associated with Plaion Group - a known woke, DEI / ESG company, and I just can't bring myself to support such companies so won't be purchasing their games moving forward.

Pros:

* Decent graphics for an older game.
* Smooth framerates / good performance.
* Lo Wang (main character) has some pretty amusing commentary at times.
* Game itself was not woke.
* No additional DRM.
* No Epic Online Services.
* No censorship that I am aware of.

Gameplay Style:

Doom-esque - frantic FPS where you are switching between guns, magic, and swordplay. It's relatively enjoyable. Like more primitive Doom without the maps being designed to fly around via teleporters and gravity skids, etc.

Game Length: ~10 Hours - I picked little collectibles up as I went along, but didn't make a goal of running around to every corner of each map, so I would imagine if you did that, you'd probably be looking at more like ~15-20 hours or thereabouts.

Final Rating: 6/10 - Not really a recommend or not recommend - just kind of 'meh'. I don't plan on playing Shadow Warrior 2 or 3 as this one just didn't pull me in enough. If you decide to buy it, the game goes on sale for 90% off pretty frequently som ake sure to wait for that. It's not worth more than a few bucks.

Played this a lot on release on ps4 , after getting it again & starting a new run I dropped it & this is not a game that you can do that but this game stI’ll holds & runs well too this day.

The humor is really hit or miss the. The sword/gunplay is fun even though the encounters are repetitive.
Despite all that i enjoyed my time with it and will probably go back for the achievements.
