The fact that this game is still up surprises me. I feel like it should have died a long time ago due to the hacker "infestation." Only thing I can see is that the devs are actually the ones selling the hacks so they maintained a flow of income from that to keep the servers going. Wouldn't recommend this game to my worst enemy, anyone who still plays it is either cheating or flat out R*tar*ed.

Thought this game died years ago... This garbage will riddled with hackers back then. Clearly abanadoned by devs whom I could only assume were using this as a scam.

bought the game,played for roughly 4 hours, got banned. Didnt use any cheats whats so ever. Game is absolute dog shit, Dayz (old dayz epoch, origins) was way better then this. Not even fun, riddled with cheaters out the ass.

💻 Hacking Issues
A huge drawback of Infestation was its hacker problem, with players often exploiting cheats to gain unfair advantages. This led to a highly frustrating experience, especially in competitive PvP zones. Though the developers made some attempts to address this, hackers remained a common issue for quite some time, tainting the overall gameplay​

Conclusion
Infestation: The New Beginning started with great promise but fell flat due to unresolved issues with cheating, poor mechanics, and frustrating player behavior. While there are a few redeeming aspects like the weapon system and large map, these are ultimately overshadowed by the toxic PvP culture and lack of meaningful survival mechanics.

Why is this allowed on Steam?

When Infestation: The New Beginning was still known as WarZ and in its early stages as Infestation, it was a strong contender to DayZ, offering a more casual and accessible alternative to the hardcore survival genre. It introduced some innovative features like the group system, which allowed players to team up in ways that felt fresh and engaging. The game was full of promise, with its open-world survival mechanics, scavenging, and combat elements all coming together for an enjoyable experience that kept players hooked for hours. At its peak, it truly felt like a more approachable version of DayZ, capturing the essence of the genre while offering a less punishing experience.

However, after taking a break for a few years and returning to Infestation: The New Beginning, it’s clear that the game has fallen from grace. What was once an exciting and innovative survival game is now an absolute mess. The developers seem to have given up on maintaining or improving the game, leaving it riddled with bugs, poor balancing, and, perhaps most frustrating of all, an overwhelming number of hackers. The introduction of dumb game modes that feel out of place only adds to the sense that the game has lost its direction. What once was a fun and immersive experience now feels like a hollow shell of its former self.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend Infestation: The New Beginning in its current state. While the game had a lot of potential and could have been a standout title in the survival genre, it now struggles to live up to that promise. If you’re looking for a fun, engaging survival game, there are much better alternatives out there, and this one’s hard to justify, given the current state of the game and the lack of support from the developers. It’s a sad fall from grace for a game that once had so much going for it.

I think I speak for many when I say that, after two days of playing (THE NEW BEGINNING aka. Survival mode), it still doesn’t feel like the original WarZ. However I did miss spawning in and immediately hearing gunfire—it gave the game that raw, unpredictable edge. The rush of spotting another player and hunting them down with just a Kruger and a dream brought back some great memories, but that excitement quickly faded.

Here are a few suggestions to bring back that classic WarZ experience:

- Bring back Colorado V1 and remove Colorado V2.
- Fix the zombies—their awkward running and glitchy movements take away from the experience.
- Remove clan territories.
- Remove airdrops and helicopter crashes.
- Rework the loot system—rare weapons should feel, well, rare. Guns like the Night Stalker, SCAR-H, Red Stalker, and FAMAS are showing up way too often.
- Revert to the original WarZ home and character screens.
- Remove the skill tree, or at least bring back the original one.
- Keep the old loot and remove newer items like the FAMAS, bananas, and pineapples.


These changes would help restore the gritty, immersive feel that made WarZ so special in the first place.

I don't usually review games but before it became free I bought it back when it was known as "Infestation: Survivor Stories". There was a lot of hype for the game and I could have foreseen it becoming successful games like project zomboid or Dayz as it is today. Its been 12 years since I bought this game, so whats my review now?

Well let me start you with my first experience of back in 2012 for infestation compared to project zomboid as I bought them both relatively same time between each other. I had a basic laptop, nothing to fancy but it did run games effectively at times. I spent over 2 hours in infestation dying to hunger or zombies that performed so poorly in animation I couldn't even react. Project Zomboid I spent similar 2 hours similarly dying to hunger and zombies, albeit not as bad as animation but again, they were brand new games at a time where early access were notorious for bad starts.

Now lets compare 2024 12 years later.
I played 2 hours of this game to die again of infestation the new beginning, badly animated zombies.
I played 2 hours of project zomboid, built a house, killed over 100+ zombies, got weapons, food and have driven a working car.


So whats my outcome of this game?
This game was told "survivor stories" then branded to "The new beginning" and I think its had possibly another few names survivor stories. I think the irony is yes, I am a survivor and this is my story. This game is free, but you're buying it with your soul the game is shit. You're paying with brain cells to memorise even a few hours of this game and rest assured at an age where people find Tiktok to be the past time of our own morbid existence, I'd rather watch some guy reacting to a guy watch another guy react to someone watching paint dry and that says it all.

And someone might say didn't you waste your time writing this review? No, If I can save one person from the oblivion that is all I can hope for.


Make your "new beginning" not revolve around this terrible game. May god protect you.

I just noticed this was in my library from 10 years ago when I got it for $5 as meme software. The developer changes the name of the game almost yearly hence there is no release date on the steam page (never seen that before). Absolutely hilarious finding this again and remembering it being the laughing stock of the game industry
