An old gem. Community Patch is a MUST though!
awesome easy to play
this game is total crap dose not work and the hopes you have to jump through to get it to run is not worth
Much potential here, as a Diablo-meets-Neverwinter Nights 2-type game.
Good:
-Huge open world (mostly seamless)
-Modding opportunities
-Tons of loot/gear
-It helps sate that "ARPG" need while combining with an actual open world full of NPCs going about their daily routines
Bad:
-Full of technical issues (when you go to start the game, it will be a blank screen, when selecting to load character/game everything will freeze and you'll think it has crashed, when you close the game, it will dump you to desktop instead of closing and keep running in the background-->in my case "7 hours" approx.)
-Jankiness up the wazoo, extremely clunky
-Graphics are inconsistent and look dated even for a 2012 game it looks old and ugly
-Incredibly cheesy (terrible bard-like song singing about the game, enemies die talking about your "car", obtaining laser guns to blast enemies, bad jokes overall).
-"community patch" is iffy as heck
It's usually on sale for incredibly cheap. Most of the "Bad" listed, is possible to move past, but not the freezing/crashing, so it's a no for me.
an extremely annoying bug that keeps making my HUD randomly disappear. i can't see my map, inventory, health, skills, or lvl up, WTF?? This may look little better on PC but your much better off playing it on Xbox. yes it still available an i think it's even been upgraded.
One of my favorite games from my childhood, even better when you understand what the tooltips say
Nostalgic and still fun to play
spinning camera bs
Really big world, a bit repetitive but still great fun!
Playtime 4 hours
I've played Sacred 2 on xbox in the past. Sadly this version on steam is pretty buggy and I also had one game crash today. All of that never happened with the xbox version. Of course I'll keep playing it but sometimes its pretty annoying.
This is my favorite game since i was 10 years old <3 I recommend trying it out

Sacred 2 Gold is a hack-and-slash ARPG often described as a Diablo clone. I highly recommend installing the community patch. It addresses numerous crashes, bugged quests, and other issues while adding some quality-of-life improvements. For example, without the patch, active buffs deactivate every time you get on your mount, forcing you to recast them manually. With the patch, buffs stay active until you decide to turn them off. Unfortunately, not all problems are fixed—quest markers still sometimes appear in unreachable spots, and the UI occasionally disappears, requiring you to open and close the map repeatedly to fix it. At least the crashes are gone.
While the game can be a lot of fun, it also has its fair share of bugs and frustrations, and emphasizes quantity over quality in many aspects. Combat and character-building are solid, although the customization is limited, and classes are gender-locked. Instead of relying on typical archetypes like warrior and rogue, the game has unique classes such as the Seraphim, Dryad, and Temple Guardian. The loot system is extensive, with plenty of weapons and armor to discover, and the skill tree offers a lot of depth for building your character.
Graphics are decent for the game’s age, with detailed 3D visuals from a top-down perspective. The semi-open world is vast and divided into biomes like grasslands, swamps, deserts, icy regions and more. The draw distance feels limited, sometimes affecting visibility. Fast travel is available through city portals, and resurrection pylons return you to specific points upon death. Navigation is smoother than in the original Sacred, with environmental obstacles replacing obvious invisible walls, though there are still places where it looks like you should be able to pass but can’t. Later game areas feel less fleshed out, with more linearity and fewer side quests available. Exploration in general is rarely peaceful, as enemies constantly spawn around you. The aggro system is inconsistent—some enemies right in front of you ignore you entirely, while others charge at you from far away.
The sound effects and ambient sounds are good, but the voice acting is mediocre at best. Only the main character and a handful of NPCs are voiced though, while the rest remain silent. I really liked the theme song by Blind Guardian.
The campaign offers a choice between light and shadow, essentially allowing for a good or evil playthrough, but the story is fairly basic. Difficulty levels include bronze (easy) and silver (normal), with higher difficulties unlocked after completing the game once. Some quest givers tell you they can’t help you right now and to return later. This might indicate these quests are tied to higher difficulty levels, but since I only played through the game once, I am not really sure, and they could very well be unfinished quests instead.
Over 500 side quests sound impressive but mostly boil down to repetitive tasks like killing a number of specific monsters, collecting items, or escorting NPCs. The escort missions are one of the worst I have ever seen in a game. NPCs can’t be instructed to wait somewhere and always wander into danger, drawing more enemies and making these quests a headache. Side quests fail if the person dies, so you constantly have to drink potions to keep them healthy.
The game auto-saves frequently and only provides a single save file per character, so if you mess up a quest, you’d need to Alt+F4 to restart from your last save point. There’s no manual load option, and returning to the main menu requires using save+exit.
Your base movement speed is slow, so having a mount to travel faster is great. However, mounts aren’t invulnerable and don’t have visible health bars, leaving you guessing when they’re about to die. You can only make basic attacks while mounted and constantly have to dismount to use your combat skills. Since you are fighting constantly, this back-and-forth becomes a hassle. Staying on the mount and relying on basic attacks feels dumb, because what’s the point of having skills if you can’t use them? The unique mounts you unlock later in the game solve these problems, but they aren’t available early on. Another annoyance is accidentally entering caves because you stand too close to an entrance. You also need to dismount to trigger the loading screen for a dungeon, then call your mount again once inside. This process feels unnecessarily tedious.
I think Sacred 1 is still the better game, and let’s not even talk about Sacred 3.
GOTY 2024
Never played it until now and I am loving it and still at the beginning. I know I have a very long road ahead to finish the game which is what I am looking for at moment.
Only bad thing about the game is without the community patch and enhanced edition mod, there are many bugs and one in particular which is the god divine evil summoning power releasing a huge demon. For me without EE mod, it would not de-spawn and would attack you if you hit it and only option is to die to get rid of it. Sucks if your using it playing hardcore without mod fix, right?
Old but gold classic RPG: comfy, if you get it to work. This game or the first Sacred 1 ought to get a remaster.
very good game
In combination with the community patch one of the best RPG out there - still!
I don't know if its quite as good as the original. And it has a propensity to crash sometimes. And the HUD sometimes disappearing is a little annoying (FYI, the fix is just to open and close the map a couple times - it'll come back.) But its still an excellent way to spend a little time, and I recommend it if you're into this type of game (Diablo II essentially)
Old, but gold! I Still love the Game !
very important for the functionality of the game:
got to the darkmatters forum and follow the instructions of the installation for the community patch and the Enhanced Edition. Otherwise there will be a lot of game chrashes under systems with Win10 or 11
I play with Gold Edition + CM 1.60 + EE 3.2
Community Patch:

Enhanced Edition:
https://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/357-sacred-2-enhanced-edition/
Have now about 100 hours of Gameplay with win 11. Game chrashed just two times. If the HUD dissappears, just use a Cave entrance or teleport to fix it.
This game's camera controls make it utterly unplayable. There might be good game play under there somewhere, but no one will ever find it.
legendary game
Use the Community Patch or something similar. Otherwise the game will have significant bugs and issues.
The game requires some thinking, there are certain ways to completly fuck up your builds and their is no in-build respecc. The English vo is not as good as the german one, many jokes get lost in translation.
I could tell you the good sides now, but if you got this game recommended, you likely already know the deal and/or will like it for sure.
Lots of variety with characters, play styles, environments and monsters. It can be humorous and it can be cool. Its a lot of fun to play.
A classic early 2000's RPG, It does not hold your hand. It can feel a bit steep to learn, but this is a classic "Read the manual" type of deal. The skill system allows you to make mistakes. I do recommend reading how the Combat Arts work before overleveling by accident and realizing you are incurring penalties that you can not yet mitigate. If you have a build idea you will have an absolute blast here. If you want to make your own, there is soooo much you can tinker with. But just so you know, think before you pick. There is no repick as far as I can see.
One of the greatest ARPGs ever created and absolute fun game ...had this on console years ago.... i highly recommend this
I also recommend if u have a newer system to get the orginal Elite Texture pack which u can find online which is 7 gigs worth of higher quality textures to really make the game shine a bit and get the Community Patch as well...
i tried them last night on my Ryzen rtx system and game ran like absolute butter so recommend those as well if your pc is up to snuff to check out the orginal Elite Texture pack...once u have the Elite Texture pack install it then run game go into graphic options and under texture quality youl see new Elite option to enable them
Even though it is an old game, it is still better than most of modern ARPGs.
Old but Gold (pun intended)! So sad we never got a Sacred 3... And probably never will...
pretty good coop game
This review assumes you obtained the necessary patches to get it working. Without, do not bother as the game will frequently crash and sometimes not even open at all. There are all some fantastic conversion mods for updating the visuals as well, but are not required to get it working, just the patches.
The Great:
- stupidly huge map and quest count
- characters and skill trees that break the mould of your typical ARPG's
- tons of items with some customizing of said items also available
- lots of humour; this game parodies many of the tropes used in these games
The Jank
- You'll need to shuffle your cameras position now and again, especially in caves or some building doors
- You'll stop caring about the main quest in approx 5 minutes or less
- You'll care about mini quests even less
- tiny glitches in ai behaviour sometimes
Overall
- huge game and massive time investment; this is for those who use ARPG's to unwind with some brain-dead action after a long day at work, not for those looking for some deep story layered over the ARPG experience. It is dated in many ways, but in many others Sacred was ahead of its time by including QoL elements we now take for granted.
a fun hack and slash game that i keep going back to after first playing it on the ps3
i love it bro
+1
Sacred 2 Gold on Steam have one big advantage compared to the CD-ROM version... you'll get the latest version directly and don't have to download and install a bunch of patches. You still have to install the Community Patch separately though, but that's not hard to do.
Sacred 1 was a superb game, and the sequel was even better with the 3D and extended camera options. The characters are as diverse as in Sacred 1 and it's really fun to try out different builds. The land ov Ancaria was huge in 1 and is even bigger in 2 with even more areas introduced in Ice & Blood DLC (included in Gold version).
The only gripe I have about Steam version is that they have nerfed the magic staff in some ways. Before it could be used for instant ranged hits, much like the dryads blowgun, in certain situations (namely using Pelting Strikes with the Seraphim or the Darting Assault with the dryad) but that doesn´t work anymore. The staff shoots fireballs, but they travel very slow and misses their target A LOT, so in most situations you'd be better off with bows or other ranged weapons.
If you are thinking of buying the franchise collection, think twice. Sacred 3 is NOT at all like 1 and 2, it is a crappy version of a Diablo type of game, but a hundred times worse. Sacred Citadel seems like an even older type of platform game and has no similarity to Sacred 1, 2 or 3 even ( I have not played it, I just watched the video).
Super fan rpg. Better then Diablo 4 for sure.
I'm pretty captivated by this game at the moment. There is a lot of complexity here, and a massive world to explore. The RPG mechanics are very fun to play with, and don't punish you for not knowing what's going on during your first play through. Play as you like. That doesn't mean there isn't min maxing here to be had. Skill points galore, and many small ways to become an overpowered monster. Honestly a staggering amount of things to do here, quests aplenty, skills, leveling, loot. And not to mention the single most satisfying looting mechanic in all of video game, hit Q, and you gather everything in an AOE. It also lets you set a simple loot filter to prevent your inventory from overflowing. It NEVER gets old. If you don't feel like installing some community patches, then you won't be able to play for longer than a few minutes sadly. BUT I implore you to go through the process. One and done, and then you are set. I've been looking for something like this for a long time, and it turns out it's been around waiting for me to find it for the better part of 20 years. Looking forward to biting into this game more in the coming weeks. Def a gem, old but Gold :)
